Burnaby-Lougheed MLA Harry Bloy has resigned from cabinet after leaking a reporter’s e-mail to a company that operates private schools. The Vancouver Province newspaper was questioning the B.C. Liberal government about complaints about three private colleges run by Eminata
Group. Bloy admitted March 14 he shared an e-mail from a Province reporter with the company’s CEO, and apologized for doing so. On March 15, Bloy was not in the legislature, and his office issued a brief statement saying he has resigned as Minister of State for Multiculturalism. In the legislature the same day, Opposition MLAs focused on the fact Eminata founder

Peter Chung has donated $14,000 to the BC Liberal Party. NDP house leader John Horgan said the e-mail in question was sent to the office of Minister of Advanced Education Naomi Yamamoto, whose ministerial assistant passed it on to Bloy’s office. Yamamoto, MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale, should also resign from cabinet, Horgan said. Premier Christy Clark said

Parkside’s Paula Scott show will please the senses
Arlene Jongbloets Free Press
Parkside Art Gallery welcomes something a little different to its main showroom at the end of March. Artist Paula Scott from Dunster, a small town near McBride, opens her new show, Stories & Dreams, with a reception on March 23 at 7 p.m. The show pieces will come directly
Paula Scott from Thompson Rivers University Art Gallery, where they have been on display since Feb. 27 in a show called
Narrative, Dream and the Colours in Between: the artwork of Paula Scott. Local artist Guy Hildebrand will use his own vision, as the show’s curator, which is a bit out of the norm as most Parkside shows in the past have been hung by the artists, themselves. “It’s a step in a different direction to have someone other than the artist hang the work,” says Hildebrand. “We’re trying to make things interesting.” Scott’s pieces represent work done during the past seven years, from figurative
interpretations of her own life to rich and colourful abstracts. Hildebrand says its difficult to go from figurative to abstract, and back again. “That’s what makes her a great artist. She has the ability to move back and forth.” At first glance, he notes the images are light and accessible. “Then we are taken in through the looking glass where what you see is not necessarily what you get.” The opening reception will include a talk by Scott at 7:30 p.m. and light refreshments

The Hunger Games” chronicles a dystopic Capitol which requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl, forced to participate in the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death live televised event. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate and Katniss volunteers to take her place. Attending the March 2-4 Boat & Sportsman Show in Abbotsford was great exposure for the Fishing Highway Tourist Association (FHTA), says association president Manuela Betschart. “It was a very busy show, I heard that they had record numbers attending,” says Betschart. “A lot of people already know about our area, they are well aware of the fishing highway,” she says, adding it was very interesting having people come and talk about their experiences up in the South Cariboo. The FHTA has been in existence for 10-15 years, and went through an inactive period, but she notes people got together to restart the association about 18 months ago. “It was exciting to be there [Abbotsford]; we had a lot of positive feedback. Breakfast fuels the brain
NEW AGE ENTERTAINMENT

By Rose Soneff Does the thought of making and eating breakfast make you groan? One-third of Canadian adults do not eat breakfast regularly — even though it’s simple to make and good to eat. Establishing a breakfast routine early is important for both children and adults. Adults who eat breakfast function better throughout the

day. Research shows breakfast kick-starts the brain and body. Studies of adults who do physical labor have found those who skip breakfast often tire quicker than their breakfast-eating coworkers. There is also evidence that eating breakfast may play an important role in getting folks to work safely in the morning. Drivers who eat breakfast were found

During the recent town-hall meetings, both positive and negative comments arose regarding the addition of another bylaw officer, chief administrative officer Janis Bell and chief financial officer Scott Reid noted in a report to the board. Richmond said an exciting revelation for the board is the final numbers coming in are showing the CRD is going to be able to pay off its debt for the Quesnel and 100 Mile House libraries earlier than anticipated. “We’ll be able to pay most of the debt off by 2012, and the remainder in 2013. Originally we’d thought it would be 2015 before we were able to do that” He noted there were some surpluses in the library budget. Monica Lamb-Yorski is a writer for the Williams Lake Tribune

Research shows breakfast gets the brain and the body off to a good start for the day. to be more attentive and responsive during their morning commutes. Eating breakfast can also help people maintain a healthy weight by warding off temptation to eat snacks that are less nutritious and by preventing over eating. Because breakfast-
skippers tend to eat more in the evening, they often exceed the amount of calories needed in a day and end up gaining weight. Breakfast is especially important for the growing brains of children and teens. See HEALTH… page 11

BBQ Beef On A
Sponsored by: South Cariboo The Louisiana Hayride was a live radio show, broadcast over KWKH Radio in Shreveport, Louisiana and ran successfully from 1948-1960. It was instrumental in establishing the careers of such artists as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Roy Orbison and many more artists. Our rendition in story and song, takes you back to those days and that live radio show. Find out why Roy Orbison wore dark sunglasses and where and when the phrase “Elvis has left the building” was first spoken. Great stories, great songs. HOCKEY POOL STANDINGS Balance of Hockey pool standings from the March 21 Free Press (as of March 18, 2012)
WEEK OF MARCH 25 TO 31, 2012
THE LUCKIEST SIGNS THIS WEEK: VIRGO, LIBRA, AND SCORPIO.
ARIES
You will receive great news about a situation involving money. Even though the weather is getting more comfortable, continue to be careful with your health. TAURUS
You are feeling extremely energetic. Your dynamism leads you to take on more than you can manage healthily, though, and some rest will be necessary at the end of the week. GEMINI
You’ve been resting quite a bit lately, and this will have helped you build up your energy stores. You are now more determined then ever to take care of your responsibilities at work and home. CANCER
Whether you are receiving guests or getting involved in activities outside the home, you will be in charge of a lot of details. This is something you will take pleasure in. LEO
The sooner you finish your chores, the sooner you will be able to have fun with friends and family. You need to focus on the present and enjoy the moment. VIRGO
You don’t have much free time these days, which is making you a bit grumpy. Plan a fun activity with a friend this week to help ease the pressure. LIBRA

Your boss may already be contemplating a schedule for this summer. This is the time to ask for the weeks you would like to have off for your vacation. SCORPIO
Some little things will get under your skin and will leave you feeling a bit emotional. You will be able to deal with the situation, though, and you will find a reason to smile. HOW TO PLAY:
SAGITTARIUS
Fill in the grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the numbers 1 through 9 only once. Each 3x3 box is outlined with a darker line. You already have a few numbers to get you started. Remember: You must not repeat the numbers 1 through 9 in the same line, column or 3x3 box.
If you have small children at home, they will be rather turbulent this week. You discover that all it takes to calm things down is give a little bit of love to everyone involved. CAPRICORN
You will be swamped with a lot of responsibilities at work. Do not get annoyed with the details. Take a step back and you will be able to evaluate the situation in the best way possible.
FOR ANSWER: See the March 28th FREE PRESS
AQUARIUS
You will find yourself in the spotlight and you are going to love it! People might gather to congratulate you for something, so get ready to receive their applause graciously. PISCES
You spend a lot of time at home this week. Doing so will allow you to take care of something you have been putting aside but that needs dealing with now.
