Did you know... The phrase, “Drowning The Shamrock” is from the custom of floating the shamrock on the top of whiskey before drinking it. The Irish believe that if you keep the custom, then you will have a prosperous year. On the average day, 5.5 million pints of Guinness are consumed around the world. That number more than doubles on St. Patrick’s Day, with more than 13 million pints going down the hatch. First brewed by Arthur Guinness in Dublin, Ireland, in 1759, Guinness, has become synonymous with Ireland and Irish bars. Bottoms up!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
St. Patrick’s Day is the one day a year where everyone is a little bit Irish. It began as a celebration of Ireland’s Patron Saint who died on March 17th. Here are a few facts you may not have known. St. Patrick was not Irish! He was actually born in Britain, but exactly where is debatable. The color of St. Patrick wasn’t green but blue. Green, in Irish legends, was the favorite color of the Good People (the proper name for faeries) who were likely to steal people, especially children, who wore too much of the color. It was also believed to make you invisible to leprechauns, who would pinch anyone they could see. St. Patrick did not chase all the snakes out of Ireland. In fact there is no record of snakes of living anywhere near the Emerald Isle let alone on it. The snakes are just a representation of the pagans that he converted to Christianity. The shamrock was worn as a badge on the lapel, three is Ireland’s magic number and the three petals that make up the shamrock are supposed to bring good luck. St. Patrick’s used the shamrock as a symbol to explain the Trinity in Christian religion.
