Gateway to get $700 million Tom Fletcher Black Press Premier Christy Clark visited a North Vancouver bulk shipping terminal Monday to announce $700 million in new highway upgrades to develop B.C.’s Pacific Gateway program. The announcement didn’t include details of new highway upgrades, beyond current projects

such as the Port Mann-Highway 1 expansion and the South Fraser Perimeter Road, a truck route to port facilities in South Delta. A news release refers to further Highway 1 improvements between Kamloops and the Alberta border. Specific provincial project announcements are promised in the weeks to come. Instead the premier’s event

focused on private sector investments from the host company Neptune Terminals and others, which are gearing up to meet demand from Asian customers. “Neptune Terminals’ strategic investments have resulted in record terminal exports of potash and steelmaking coal, a 20-percent increase in jobs at our terminals, and significant additional growth to come as we complete

our expansions,” said Neptune president James Belsheim. Teck Resources CEO Don Lindsay also took part in the event, reviewing the mining company’s $1 billion investment over the last two years to expand production of metallurgical coal, copper and zinc. See TOLLS, Page A02

Tolls to cover some costs Continued from A01 Jock Findlayson of the Business Council of B.C. said the province’s exports to China grew by 27 per cent in 2011 alone, and shipments of coal, minerals and forest products to Asia are expected to double by 2020. NDP transportation critic Harry Baines dismissed the an-

nouncement as the latest media event staged by Clark to promote her jobs plan. “There are no specific details where this money is going to go,” Bains said of the provincial contribution. “It’s more about a photo op than getting their hands dirty to have a real job plan for British Columbians.” Marian Gibb

Bains said $700 million over five years is $140 million a year. At $5 million per kilometre, that amounts to 28 km of new or expanded per year, he said. The B.C. government’s February budget says the province’s total contribution to the South Fraser Perimeter Road will be

$1.06 billion when it is complete in the summer of 2014. The Port MannHighway 1 expansion is budgeted for completion by the winter of 2013, with a total cost of more than $3.3 billion. That is to be paid down through tolls of about $3 for cars and $9 for heavy trucks.

AN APPLE A DAY... A story out of the U.S. cites Vermont as the healthiest state in the country. This distinction is partially due to a high rate of high school graduation and a low incidence of infectious disease. The other reason was the considerable gains in the number of people who stopped smoking. Incidentally, Mississippi was the least healthiest in this study. April is National Oral Health Month in Canada. The main theme is to highlight the idea that keeping a healthy mouth is an important part of leading a healthy life. Seeing your dentist twice yearly is important and brushing twice daily and flossing at least once daily to remove plaque and reduce the risk of cavities. With the numbers of autism cases rising in Canada (up 600% in the past 20 years), research is starting to focus on the gastrointestinal (g.i.) symptoms of the disorder. Since 70% of autistic children have severe g.i. symptoms there is a theory that the causes of autism might start in the gut. Autism causes much stress in families and it will be a great day when causes and effective treatments are discovered. It takes 6 months to grow a complete finger nail and 18 months for a toe nail. The appearance of the finger nail can sometimes indicate a health problem. Brittle, concave nails could indicate a lack of iron. Nails that are separating from the nail bed could mean a hyperactive thyroid gland. It’s a good idea to build a relationship with your pharmacist just as you do with your doctor. Potato House itself, our beautiful heritage house it requires special care and funding to make those repairs, retrofits, tests and public safety and security measures to ensure our sustainability to the future,” Forbes says. “With those thoughts in mind, please take the time to write your thoughts, enthusiasm and support into a one page letter of support for our application for a co-ordinator and send to us via email or drop off at Dandelion Living 271 Oliver Street. For the application process Forbes says the society needs four copies of the support letters, three in sealed envelopes and one loose for the society files. Letters must be typed, as hand-written letters are seldom accepted by funding agencies, Forbes says.

Awakening the Dreamer a symposium for change Thompson Rivers University in Williams Lake is hosting a unique opportunity to explore local issues of social justice and environmental sustainability on April 21. The Awakening the Dreamer; Changing the Dream Symposium is a video symposium developed by the Pachamama Alliance as a tool for helping communities explore environmental sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment in the face of pressing global socioeconomic and environmental crises, says Jay Goddard, TRU social service programs co-ordinator. “The symposium confronts the current state of the world, examines how we got here and most importantly looks at possible futures and how we can begin to work to create a sustainable and socially just future,” Goddard says. “To be sure, the film and discussion presents a frank and realistic picture of the current state of the world.” “It fully acknowledges that we have surpassed the limits of our ability to sustain our natural environment under our current economic, social and political structures but it also provides a wonderfully positive vision of hope that we can begin to change many things that will help us attain a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.”

of entertainment and a Dance featuring a performance by the local act Drum & Bell Tower. The symposium starts at 9:30 a.m. (registration and networking begins at 8:30 a.m.) and will be followed by the forum in the afternoon beginning at 1:30 p.m. The day events are free, however, donations are gladly accepted as the event is entirely put on by volunteers and this will help offset some of the costs. TRU’s social service programs co-ordinator Jay Goddard talks about the Awakening the Dreamer; Changing the Dream Symposium during the Williams Lake Film Club night Tuesday. Gaeil Farrar photo He says the event began when faculty at TRU, members of the local Conservation Society, the Food Policy Council and concerned local citizens came together to view the film portion of the symposium and felt there was a need to catalyze the local community around these important issues. The symposium is a powerful and transformative experience for participants as it attempts to awaken in people a sense of what environmentalist and author Paul Hawken terms, “blessed unrest” a state of awareness that leaves people aware of the urgency of the problems but also connected to hopeful possibilities for change. Committee members who have

watched in and participated in the symposium have said it is an excellent tool for sharpening awareness and moving people on to action, Goddard says. Because the ultimate goal of the symposium is to foster greater involvement and engagement with social and environmental issues, this event is paired with an afternoon sustainability forum where local environmental and social organizations and local and regional experts will hold discussions and share information about projects and local issues. Participants will be invited to learn more about how they can become involved in supporting local initiatives, learn to be green consumers, create greater awareness,

influence decision makers and feel empowered to begin to work towards change. One of the invited speakers is Tom Owen, Thompson Rivers University’s Director of Sustainability who will speak about ways that people can begin to take steps to influence change at the local and global level. The day will culminate with an evening

IFBMUI NJOE CPEZ Spring forward with a healthy smile Carol Gulliford Interior Health You don’t have to brush and floss your teeth — just the ones you want to keep — Author unknown April means spring is here, a time to enjoy the budding of flowers and other new beginnings. For many of us spring brings renewed energy and interest in our overall health. The mouth is often described as being the gateway to the rest of the body. Maintaining good oral health is

an important part of being healthy. We are now learning that poor oral health may be linked to chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory illness. Maintaining a healthy mouth and body is all about prevention. Here are a few tips to help you spring forward with a healthy smile. Brush your teeth every day, twice a day. Brushing daily helps to remove plaque that causes tooth decay and gum disease. If you use a power toothbrush, choose one that has a ro-

tation/oscillation action. Fluoride toothpaste will help keep the outer layer of the teeth hard and resistant to the acids that cause tooth decay. Floss your teeth every day, once a day. Flossing daily helps remove plaque from between the teeth. If flossing is difficult, floss holders can make it easier. If you have braces or bridges, interdental brushes are an alternative. Eat and drink well. Foods that are nutritionally healthy are also good for your oral health. Limiting sweet, sticky snack

foods and sugary drinks will reduce the number of acid attacks on your teeth. Drink less sugar and more water. Sugary drinks increase the risk of tooth decay. Plain water is the best thirst quencher, especially between meals, and it is also good for your teeth. Visit your dental professional. Regular check-ups and professional cleanings are the best ways to ensure your mouth is healthy and free of tooth decay and gum disease. Information:

Diligent dental care important for seniors Dental health care is a growing need among B.C.’s aging population to prevent pain, infection, tooth loss and negative effects on general health and quality of life. Older adults are increasingly reliant on others to maintain a healthy mouth. Declining dexterity, eyesight and cognitive abilities along with an increase in medications or foods and drinks that contain sugars result in seniors being more susceptible to dental health issues which can progress rapidly without proper care. “Preventive dental health care is particularly important among the senior population due to the growing range and complexity of health issues that seniors face,” says Dr. Hank Klein, president of the British Columbia Dental Asso-

ciation (BCDA). “Unfortunately, many frail elders are not able to care for their mouths properly. Family members and care providers have an important role to play in daily mouth care. Dentists and their staff have an important role to play in disease prevention, through regular examinations to diagnose problems early and professional cleanings. All of these elements result in better health outcomes for seniors.” The BCDA offers the following tips for seniors’ caregivers: • Brush teeth daily: Brush natural teeth at least twice a day, preferably after breakfast and especially before bed or long naps. Electric or adapted toothbrushes can help seniors with reduced dexterity while a reminder to brush can help those with

cognitive issues. Always encourage a senior to brush his or her own teeth and provide assistance as needed. • Clean between teeth: Floss daily (before bed) to remove food and debris between teeth. A floss holder or an interproximal brush can help. • Denture care: Remove dentures from the mouth and clean daily using a soft toothbrush or denture brush and a liquid soap. Brush over a towel to prevent damage if dropped. Gently brush the gums and tongue with a soft toothbrush moistened with water. • Care for crowns and bridge work: Dental restorations, such as bridges or crowns, may require special care. Speak to your dentist for advice. • Look in the mouth: Many seniors will not verbally express pain. Specifically ask the senior if

• Visit the dentist for an exam, even if the senior wears a denture: By visiting the dentist regularly, not only can cavities and gum disease be caught early, there is also the potential to detect other diseases, such as oral cancer. The dental team can provide advice to care for a senior’s oral health, addressing any specific challenges, including how to brush and floss teeth. • Visit BCDA tips online www.bcdental.org/ caregiverresources

Country Gospel band performs Good Friday The Norm Johnson Country Gospel Band will give a free Easter concert on Good Friday, April 6 at the Cariboo Central SDA Church. “We are very pleased to be able to have Norm Johnson and his band present an inspiring evening of music on this Good Friday,” says Cameron Johnston pastor of the Cariboo Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. “Everyone in our community is invited to come and enjoy an hour or so of great country gospel music with an excellent local musical group.” Band leader Pastor Norman Johnson has been singing and writing country and gospel music for many years. “I started my first band at age 19 and for years we played on weekends across Northern Alberta,” Pastor Johnson says. Today Pastor Johnson is a recording artist, pastor and song writer. With him in his current band are his sister Kathie Johnson also a singer/songwriter, Dr. Glenn Gill, a relatively new guitar player and physician here in Williams Lake, and Judy Hillman from Quesnel who has a background in Bluegrass and is a bass player. “With gospel concerts, I like to make sure that I have lots of songs that focus on the gospel especially God’s acceptance and unconditional love.” says local Pastor Cameron Johnston. For this inspiring Easter concert, he says there will also be a guest singer/songwriter, Bernadette Ducharme from Horsefly.

He says comments from participants after Ducharme’s concerts are: “Very encouraging message,” “I liked the spiritual and encour-

aging message in the songs,” and “I really enjoyed your music.” The Norm Johnson Country Gospel Band plays today, Good Fri-

Gentle John Cummins? Not really I

n an interview with one of our Vancouver Island papers before Christmas, B.C. Conservative leader John Cummins made a bold prediction that he would have party status before the general election in May 2013. That’s four seats, and it wasn’t based on an unlikely sweep of the ChilliwackHope and Port Moody-Coquitlam by-elections, now set for April 19. He hinted he was getting calls from MLAs looking to join up, after a November Angus Reid poll showed a sudden surge to 18 per cent for his resurgent brand. We now know that one of those callers was Abbotsford South MLA John van Dongen. I asked Cummins on Friday if he is still confident about three more. “Hopeful, let’s put it that way,” he replied. Van Dongen’s explosive departure was arranged, with Cummins’ help, for maximum damage to Premier Christy Clark. Van Dongen notified the B.C. Liberal caucus that he was quitting. Then, in a questionable use of legislature privileges, he launched a broadside on Clark’s integrity. He cited the $6-million legal payout in the B.C. Rail sale, a decision made before Clark’s time, and the recent collapse of a deal to sell naming rights to B.C. Place. He described the

B.C. VIEWS TOM FLETCHER

B.C. Liberals as “an organization headed for failure,” then announced he’s joined the B.C. Conservatives. Cummins then joined van Dongen at a hotel news conference across the street, as the former Gordon Campbell cabinet minister disclosed he has hired his own lawyer to dig through the roomful of paper from the B.C. Rail case once again. Auditor General John Doyle is already in court seeking access to details of the $6 million in lawyer bills, which the attorney general’s ministry hasn’t provided because it doesn’t have them. These delicate matters were farmed out to yet more independent lawyers. Independent special prosecutor Bill Berardino also spent seven years and many more millions on the B.C. Rail case, including the role of Clark’s lobbyist brother, Bruce. He didn’t find the smoking gun now sought by van Dongen.

This effort seems designed more for political revenge in an election year than to clarify the sorry legacy of the B.C. Rail sale that has already been examined through two provincial elections. Van Dongen was at the top of everyone’s list of disgruntled B.C. Liberals. During last year’s leadership contest, he muttered darkly about not only B.C. Rail, but also the integrity of fellow Abbotsford MLA Mike de Jong. Now Clark

is van Dongen’s target, with Cummins standing beside him trying to look statesman-like. Of course van Dongen drove himself out of cabinet long before Clark returned. Chronic speeding by a public safety minister is a tough sell. I asked Cummins about the reluctance of key cabinet ministers Kevin Falcon and George Abbott to confirm they are running again. His aw-shucks friendlygrandpa modesty precludes

speculation, but he did allow it’s “maybe a comment on the state of affairs in the Liberal caucus.” Reporters started surveying government MLAs after Falcon and Abbott kept their options open for 2013. For the record, fellow ministers Terry Lake, Shirley Bond, Pat Bell, Mary Polak, Rich Coleman and Stephanie Cadieux all said they are firmly on Clark’s election team. Independentminded backbenchers Bill Bennett and Kevin Krueger

also saluted the B.C. Liberal banner. Randy Hawes allowed that he’s 65, so if he leaves it will be for the golf course. As I was talking with Cummins, B.C. Conservative advisor Randy White was assuring the Abbotsford News that more defections are coming. Cummins has people for the dirty work. kill Jesus, and succeeded! Jesus was crucified on the cross, put to death and buried in the grave. I can just imagine the rejoicing in the ranks of Satan’s companions, the other angels who had joined him in the rebellion in heaven. His plan worked, he had successfully killed the One who was to be the Saviour of mankind! That Good Friday was a great day for Satan. I wonder just when he realized that the joke was on him! When did he suddenly understand that God had used his efforts to kill Jesus as a part of the plan of salvation and restoration of people to God? Was it immediately after Jesus died on the cross? Or was it shortly before Jesus rose from the grave? Or when Jesus snatched the keys to death and hell from Satan? A trick played on Satan, but a trick that has lasting benefits for you and I – we can have salvation and we can live a life of joy because of Good Friday and Easter Sunday! Rejoice and be glad because God has redeemed and restored his people! So Happy Easter everyone! Enjoy the New Life!

News April Fool-ish

April has lots of health conferences and educational sessions with the start of the new fiscal year. One year I attended a large national conference for CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) instructor trainers and emergency services personnel — an austere crowd of about 350 and an important topic. On the third morning, I was particularly tired and found myself struggling to pay attention to the speaker and stay still in my chair. I carefully planned a quiet, unnoticed retreat at an appropriate moment so as not to interrupt the speaker. Hunched over to avoid throwing a shadow on the screen, I began to slouch my

way across in front of the podium. I was so sorry I had picked a front row seat but tried to sneak out without too much fuss. I hadn’t gone three steps when I tripped over the power cord and the entire podium, with the overhead projector slashing the room wildly like a psychotic spot light, crashed to the floor followed by me, falling like an elephant on

both knees! I think the whole room shook and everyone got to their feet to see if a bomb had gone off or something. It was one of those moments when the pain is immense but the embarrassment is ever so much worse so I literally bounced to my feet with a miraculous agility, reassured everyone that I was OK and beat a hasty retreat. Once out of the conference room, I limped slowly and in pain to my own room. Of course, everyone had seen the episode and knew who had tried to make the great escape and there wasn’t a session I went to that several people didn’t ask first about my knees and then about how embarrass-

ing it must have been. Perhaps, if it had taken place on the first, I might have been able to weave the incident into some sort of April Fools’ joke but, unfortunately, it was the 14th of the month. My colleagues wouldn’t let me forget my shame for many years and there are still people out there who would remind me, I’m sure … if they could find me! TIPS FROM THE CRD

Lightning Safety

Thunder and lightning storms happen all the Ɵme. But did you know that lightning strikes and lightning res occur most oŌen in the summer? Know what to do to keep you and your family safe when it does strike! •

• • •

OUTDOOR SAFETY

If you can hear thunder, you are within striking distance of lightning. Look for shelter inside a home, large building, or a hard-topped vehicle right away. Do not go under tall trees for shelter. There is no place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Wait at least 30 minutes aŌer the last thunder before leaving your shelter. Stay away from windows and doors. If you are in or on open water, go to land and seek shelter immediately. If you feel your hair stand on end, that means lightning is about to strike, squat low to the ground on the balls of your feet. Place your hands over your ears and your head between your knees. Make yourself the smallest target possible and minimize your contact with the ground. Do not lie at on the ground. This is a last resort when a building or hard-topped vehicle is not available. If a person is struck by lightning, call 9-1-1 and get medical care immediately. Lightning strike vicƟms carry no electrical charge; aƩend to them immediately. Check their breathing, heartbeat, and pulse. CPR may be needed.

Dance to fight cancer April 28 Gaeil Farrar Tribune Staff Writer Several lakecity women are coming together to host a Families Fighting Cancer dinner, dance and silent auction at the Elks Hall on Saturday, April 28. Corry Williams and her daughter Samantha Genereux say all proceeds from the dance will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. The two women decided to host the dance in support of Corry’s sister-in-law who is battling cancer for the fourth time. Corry says she has been accompanying her sister-in-law each week to her chemotherapy treatments. “Every time we go to the hospital someone new is fighting cancer,” Corry says. “My eyes were totally opened to how rampant cancer is just in our community alone.” Samantha adds: “When I was younger I knew the odd person with cancer but now it seems everyone knows someone who is touched by cancer.” Corry says she planned to have her own head shaved in • • • • • •

Corry Williams is organizing a dance and auction to raise funds for the Cancer Society. support of her sisterin-law which is how the idea of a fundraiser was hatched. “I was going to shave my head to support her, but my husband suggested that if I was going to do it we should make some money for the cancer society,” Corry says. Samantha says she would have shaved her head too but she has enough on her plate

with the due date of her baby coming right about dance time. Stylist Gloria Matschke will do the head shaving, Corry says, adding, “We are hoping others will join in having their heads shaved too.” So far she says Cody Woods and her son Mason Hutchins have also volunteered to have their heads shaved. If people have uncolored hair with more than seven inches in length available they can also have the hair saved to be made into a wig for a cancer patient. Tickets are $40 for adults and by donation for children under age 10. She says they have also arranged for safe rides home for people within city limits. She says CJ’s Grill will be catering the event and the menu will buffet of baron of beef, herb chicken, and a vegetarian lasagna for the main course with vegetables salads and dessert. Brooke Paquette will be the DJ.

She says lots of interesting silent auction items are coming in from local individuals and businesses and so far one large donation. Anyone who would like to volunteer for the event donate something for the auction or join the head shaving pledge gathering can contact Corry at 250-267-6188 during the day or by email at creativelogging@telus.net Corry says there will also be information on the Canadian Cancer Society website about the Families Fighting Cancer event and they will also be creating a Face-book page about the event. She says her father James Sutherland who now lives in Arizona has already sold six tickets in support of the event. She says her whole family including husband Darren and their five children Samantha, 26, Gaige, 22, Taylor, 20, Mason, 16, and Makayla, 10 will supporting the fundraiser.

Good Friday interdenominational service planned Pastor Cameron Johnston Special to The Tribune An interdenominational Good Friday service will take place at Cariboo Bethel Church, at 10 a.m. Good Friday, April 6 sponsored by the Williams Lake Christian Ministerial Association. Everyone is invited to attend this time of remembrance, worship and praise. “On behalf of all the local pastors, we are inviting our entire community Christian and non-Christian to come to Cariboo Bethel Church and enjoy a time of worship and remembering the last critical events in the life of our saviour,” says, Jeremy Vogt, Pastor of Cariboo Bethel Church and Williams Lake Christian Min-

isterial Association president. Great music will be lead by the Noble family and the Norm Johnson Christian Gospel Band. Pastors from seven different denominational traditions will share reflections on the seven sayings of Jesus on the cross. “These pastor reflections on the seven sayings of Jesus on the cross were a highlight of last year’s Good Friday service in Quesnel which I attended,” says Norman Johnson, Pastor of the Williams Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church and primary organizer of this event. “I know these pastoral thoughts interspersed between appropriate music will be a blessing to all who attend,” Johnson says.

The death of Jesus at the Jewish Passover in the spring of AD 31 is a pivotal moment in the Christian church of all denominations. Christians believe that it was the death of Jesus that brings salvation and redemption from sin to everyone who believes and accepts the free gift of God in Jesus Christ. As the Nicene Creed puts it, which most churches understand and believe. “We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. “Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. “For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.” Everyone is welcome from across the Williams Lake community and beyond.

This special event is free with an offering to be taken for a worthy cause yet to be determined. For more info call Linda at Cariboo Bethel 250-398-6731 or email: jeremy@cariboobethel.com.

Christian Leaders Network rooted in collaboration

St. Andrews United Church

1000 Huckvale Place (just off Midnight)

Sun-Rise Service (at Scout Island)

April 8th at 7:30am Pastor Cameron Johnston It has been said by more than one person that Williams Lake is a small town with big city challenges. The deeper insight behind that statement is that human communities, no matter what their size, tend to break down in some very common ways. Towns and cities of every size all suffer from the reality of abuse, disintegrated families, violence, gangs, property crimes, suicide, murder, drugs, alcohol abuse and racism. It may seem like a total downer to point out these realities, but there is some really good news! If the problems are similar in big cities and small towns, then so are many of the solutions! One of the underlying principles that must guide sustainable, successful solutions to community challenges is collaboration. This probably sounds a bit cliché, but

some clichés achieve their status because they have developed a track record of truth over time. All over the world, communities are addressing real issues of brokenness and disintegration by coming together around a common table, developing action plans that are uniquely tailored to their context. Friends, if collaboration works around the world it will also work in beautiful Williams Lake. In fact, there are people in this town that have operated by this principle of collaboration for a long time. One of the best is Mayor Cook, a person this author is privileged to call a friend. For every issue our city faces, it seems our Mayor is inviting new combinations of folks to work together. Our mayor is a shining example of what our city needs most. The fruit of her efforts to draw us all together is already ripening. Look around the

city and the region— you’ll see! This kind of community networking is actually one of the inspirations for the formation of a new collaborative group in Williams Lake. It is called the Christian Leaders Network (CLN). The Williams Lake CLN was formed during conversations between Mayor Kerry Cook, Pastor Paul Lomavatu (Cariboo Community Church) and Pastor Jeremy Vogt (Cariboo Bethel Church). The CLN is modeled off of other Christian leaders networks that have sprung up all over North America (Abbotsford, for example, has a CLN). The mandate of the CLN is to draw together a broad spectrum of Christian leaders, pastors, service providers, government employees, business people and citizens. The CLN’s intention is to develop distinctively Christian responses to some of the major challenges that

this wonderful city has struggled with for far too long. Most of you will know that Williams Lake has a longstanding Ministerial, which fulfills an important role in uniting churches and pastors in this region. The CLN hopes to fulfill a similar unifying role alongside the Ministerial. In addition, the CLN will seek to make unique contributions to the health of our city by drawing on the wisdom and experience of a diverse table to tackle important issues together. In Jeremiah 29 God says this: “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” The CLN believes seeking the peace and wholeness of our city and region is a mandate for every Christian. Community wholeness is a project that calls us together folks! Thank you for your time. If you have ques-

ATTRACTIVE TWO-STOREY FAMILY HOME The entrance to this attractive two-storey family home, which includes an unďŹ nished basement, is through a covered porch anked by stone-based pilasters connected by a painted railing. From the foyer, a coat closet is straight ahead, adjacent to a powder room. To the immediate left is a study that could do extra duty as a guest room. Along the corridor and past the stairway to the basement is the great room, with a dramatic doubleheight ceiling. Access to a covered deck will bring the outdoors inside during the warmer months, while in the cooler months, the gas ďŹ replace will cast its heat as far as the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen features a spacious prep island, and is separated from the dining room by a three-seat eating bar that forms part of the L-shaped counter conďŹ guration. The dining room features large windows that overlook the back garden. Adjacent to the kitchen are a handy walk-in pantry and the laundry room. The latter will double as a mud room, thanks to access to the double garage, which includes space for a work bench. Upstairs, the roomy master bedroom overlooks the back garden. The spacious walk-in closet will be roomy enough for the most extensive wardrobes, while the ensuite bathroom includes double basins, a shower stall and a clawfoot soaker tub, set at an angle to save space. The second and third bedrooms both look out to the front garden and share a three-piece bathroom.

A linen closet is located nearby. Railings surround the open area that gives the great room its double-height ceiling. Exterior ďŹ nishes include narrow horizontal siding, with shingles and decorative woodwork in the gables. This home measures 38 feet wide and 59 feet deep, for a total of 2,349 square feet. Plans for design 7-3-992 are available for $746 (set of 5), $835 (set of 8) and $890 for a super set of 10. Also add $30.00 for Priority charges within B.C. or $55.00 outside of B.C.
