New electoral map proposed for province Submitted
The Federal Electoral
Boundaries Commission for British Columbia has proposed a new electoral map for consideration at public hearings taking place this fall. British Co-
lumbia is gaining six electoral districts as a result of the increase in its population. The proposal takes into account British Columbia’s increase
in population from 3,907,738 in 2001 to 4,400,057, as captured in the 2011 census. “High population growth was noted between the North Shore

and Chilliwack, on Vancouver Island, in the Okanagan as well as in the Kamloops area. These changes have prompted us to make substantial adjustments to the boundary lines in these regions, said the Honourable John E. Hall, chair of the three-member commission. Mr. Stewart Ladyman and Dr. J. Peter Meekison are the other members of the commission responsible for readjusting the province’s federal electoral boundaries. In addition to looking at population numbers, the commission focused on historical patterns and community of interest or identity to achieve the goal of effective representation in Parliament. “We also bore in mind the proper representation of First Nations communities and residents of the northern electoral districts, said judge Hall. Under the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act, the commission’s main aim in redrawing boundaries is to divide the province
into electoral districts as close to the average population as reasonably possible. The population of a district should remain within 25% of the average once consideration is given to communities of interest or identity, and historical and geographic factors. A commission can depart from the 25% guideline to deal with extraordinary circumstances. Residents of British Columbia are invited to share their views on the proposed federal electoral map at public hearings. In Cranbrook, the hearing will be held at the Heritage Inn Hotel & Convention Centre, 803 Cranbrook Street North on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Those wishing to make a presentation at a hearing are requested to send the commission notice no later than August 30.

TILT and Atopic Allergy Ah, the sun is finally here. With the warm temperatures and the arrival of summer everything green and growing is kicking into high gear. For those with seasonal allergies this can mean misery. This year is particularly bad for pollens due to all the moisture we have had. Rainfall aside, since the 1950’s we have seen an exponential increase in the number of people with acquired allergy. Acquired allergy describes the process of a person becoming allergic so some antigen (protein from pollen, food, grass etc.). The medical terminology is “toxicant induced loss of tolerance” or TILT. When the body is confronted with an overexposure to toxic agents it becomes overwhelmed and loses it’s ability to tolerate exposure to normal compounds like pollens, grasses and trees. TILT is the result of our environment being extremely complex. Never before in our history have we been exposed to so many dangerous substances. Newborn babies are come into the world with 200
man-made chemical agents in their blood including flame-retardants. Sadly, the number of chemicals we are exposed to is only increasing. Inherited allergies different from TILT and are passed from parent to child and are called “atopic allergies.” My mom’s side of the family is atopic which means that I have suffered with allergies and my two-year-old daughter just stared sneezing too. The most common allergy treatment is to suppress the allergic reaction with drugs or natural medicines that help to reduce the immune reaction to the substance using antihistamines. This approach does not address the underlying TILT or atopic condition, rather it suppresses the body reaction and when the supplement or drug is stopped, the symptoms return (if they ever went away). A more effective approach is to address the underlying toxin exposure in TILT and to normalize the body response to external stressors – a subject I will talk more about in the coming weeks.

We would like to hold a new Summer Street Fair event starting July 11 at 5 p.m. Our event will take place every Wednesday from July 11 until the end of August or early September from roughly 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on a prominent block in the downtown core. We are awaiting approval from the city to con¿rm the exact location. As you may be aware, the Cranbrook Farmers’ Market is oper-

We have been in contact with the Cranbrook Farmers’ Market Society (CFMS) and have been encouraged by them to hold our event the same evenings with the hoped result of increased traf¿c to both events. We value the CFMS and their event and are very happy to have their support in our endeavour. Our event will be open to all types of businesses, clubs, organizations and charities from not only the DBA but all of Cranbrook and surrounding areas. Vendor applicants will be screened before
acceptance by a board of at least 3 DBA members. The DBA feels this is one more step towards not only a healthy downtown but a healthy and prosperous city. Arson to Pickup
On Feb 12, 2012, 1725 hrs, a report of a burnt abandoned pickup was received by the police. The truck was found by Hidden Valley Rd near the gravel pit. The police attended the scene and determined that a 2007, D3500, Dodge, dually pickup had been totally destroyed by the arson. The owner of the truck was out of the country on a cruise at the time. Upon his return from vacation the owner stated he had left the vehicle at South City Auto for repairs on February 8th, with the keys in drop box. He left for vacation on February 9th. Employees at the repair shop reported they had never seen the vehicle at all. This indicates there are two crime locations, the Âżrst where the vehicle was stolen from and the second where it was burnt. Before you throw yourself into the decoration of the interior of your home, take the time to plan the work. It’s better to plan everything beforehand rather than making mistakes which will be difficult or costly to repair. Start by deciding on the extent of the work. Examine the state of each room and check if your needs have
changed. For example, if your children have grown up, it’s perhaps time to rethink their bedrooms. The appliances and the bathroom or kitchen cabinets perhaps need renewing. Or is it the appearance of your bedroom, the living room or the dining room which needs to be changed? If several rooms need to be modified, decide

circulation of positive energy in the house. This approach also guides you in the use of colours and advises against some combinations, such as yellow and green, which can induce a feeling of discomfort unless the green is less dominant than the yellow. According to this approach, the position of the colours is also very important. It’s recommended to put colder shades below and warmer shades above. For example, greens below and blues above.
Choose your faucets carefully If there’s one area of interior design that continues to take us by surprise year after year, it certainly has to be that of faucets. Whether in the kitchen or the bathroom, new styles are constantly popping up, ever increasing our range of decorating possibilities. And that’s a great thing, because these fixtures can really set the mood of a room. For those who value uniformity, many of today’s models come in a complete family of products, which means you can have the same style for your kitchen sink, bar sink, bathroom sink, bathtub and shower stall. No longer content to limit themselves to commercial use, electronic faucets are starting to make their way into private residences. You no longer have to turn on the tap to get the water flowing; simply place your hands under the faucet. What’s more, these models allow you to easily adjust the water temperature. To make washing even easier, today’s models include high, arched faucets, or movable hand showers equipped with a flexible hose.

The 2012 Charger–revamped The Sonic combines style and and charging out of the gate power in a perfect driving package
PHOTO SUBMITTED
PHOTO SUBMITTED
Starting with the famous Charger styling, the 2012 model features larger brakes and a ¿rmer suspension to go along with its standard 292-horsepower V6 3.6-litre engine.
Styling that rivals the looks of any up-quality vehicle combined with a 138-horsepower 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine gives you looks and power in an economy vehicle.
Overall: With a solid 2011 makeover under its Hemipowered belt, Dodge’s big four-door sedan ¿nally looks as aggressive as it sounds, especially with the SRT8’s 470-horsepower V8 roaring. Drivetrain: Chrysler’s lively Pentastar V6 delivers good punch and fuel ef¿ciency, now gets eight-speed automatic transmission and available all-wheel-drive; the 5.7-litre V8 unchanged; Charger SRT8 debuts with 6.4-litre V8 power and a huge grille opening. After some serious sheetmetal and chassis changes for 2011, the Charger (and its Chrysler 300 cousin) ¿nally get to express their inner hooligans with the reintroduction of the muscle sedan, the SRT8. Aside from the added aggression to the unique grilles, fascias, lights and wheels, the
Overall: The Sonic is the tonic to cure those underachieving small-car blues. Drivetrain: The larger Chevy Cruze lends its fourcylinder engines as well as its standard and automatic transmissions to put a little spring in the Sonic’s step. At long last, Chevrolet appears to be taking the smallcar segment seriously. The company’s newest entry replaces the Korea-built Aveo that has been around since the 2004 model year. Like the Aveo, the Sonic is offered in both sedan and mini-wagon formats. However, these cars are constructed at GM’s Orion, Mich., Plant and not in Korea. Therefore, there’s plenty of North American style built into the Sonic, such as a stubbier-looking nose, more prominent grille and fancier headlight pods. In back, the sedan appears similar to the outgoing Aveo
performance machine gets the same 6.4-litre Hemi (392 cubic inches) V8 found in the Challenger. Pushing out 470 horsepower (beating out the previous 6.1 by 45 horsepower), it turns the Charger into a brash cruiser. Thankfully, the brakes are larger and the ride height is lowered and suspension ¿rmed up to make sure the SRT8 turns and stops well as it accelerates. Keeping regular Charger charging is the new 3.6-litre V6 worth 292 horsepower. The sixspeed automatic transmission has been replaced in most cases by a new eightspeed automatic. The returning ¿ve-speed automatic is hooked to the base reardrive V6, and all iterations of the venerable 370-horsepower 5.7-litre V8 installed as standard equipment in the Charger R/T. Both engines can now be equipped
with all-wheel-drive with its fuel-saving active transfer case with front-axle disconnect. To save fuel, the system unlocks the front wheels from the transfer case when they’re not needed and will automatically and seamlessly reconnect the front wheels when reartire slip is detected. The 5.7 also tries to temper the engine’s thirst for fuel by cutting off half the cylinders at idle and during low-load cruising. Among the host of new Charger safety gear is the Rain Brake Support that pushes the brake pads lightly against the rotors to keep them dry in wet weather.
sedan, while the hatchback hides the rear door latches adjacent to the roof pillar. As well, the liftgate’s shape is one of the more stunning examples of this genre, with curved glass plus a set of really fancy taillamps that were apparently inspired by motorcycle headlights. Inside, the dashboard and control panel exude an up-level quality rarely seen in the econo-car class. Both Sonic body styles are larger than their outgoing Aveo counterparts by about nine centimetres in overall length. In the sub-compact class, this increase is signi¿cant and helps provide a decent amount of passenger room. More is de¿nitely better as far as performance is concerned. The Sonic roars to life with a 138-horsepower 1.8-litre four-cylinder, or optional 138-horsepower 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit. Although
horsepower ratings are the same, the turbocharged engine makes 148 pound-feet of torque compared with 125 pound-feet for the base 1.8. A ¿ve-speed manual transmission, or optional six-speed automatic comes on the 1.8, while the turbo is exclusively matched to a six-speed manual. Chevy says the extra-rigid body structure, wide stance and suspension components were tuned by the Corvette engineering team, which should ensure that the Sonic delivers a sporty driving experience. Base models arrive as relatively stripped-down price leaders but include six standard airbags with four more that can be added. Among a variety of options are leather-covered seats (heated in front), power sunroof, myChevrolet hands-free phone, text and audio connectivity and larger wheels (up to 17 inches from 15).

My Precious Love
Sometimes I tell myself, that you’re not really gone. I feel your tender touch and no longer feel alone. I see us walking hand in hand like we used to do. It’s hard for me to accept... that your life on earth is through. There were so many dreams we had not yet fulÂżlled, all the hopes of a future that we were going to build. All our friends and family have been so very kind, they try hard to ease my broken heart and my troubled mind. But how can my heart be mended, when it has broken in two? Part of my heart is still on earth, the other part left with you. It is hard to see tomorrow, when I can’t accept today, because the “Love of My Lifeâ€? has been taken away I will always miss you, Sweetheart, time will not erase the pain, all the raw emotions of losing you, words will never explain. I will cling to the warm feelings you brought into my life, Maybe somehow it will ease my confusion and emotional strife. Someday we will be rejoined in Heaven up above, but while I’m still on earth I will cherish every memory of our precious love. Somehow those precious memories will have to carry me through, until the time comes for us to walk hand in hand for an eternity....together... me and you.
Loved and Missed Forever...Bob
