Motorbike crashes near Watch Lake A motorcycle accident on Watch Lake Road on Aug. 17 sent two people to 100 Mile House District General Hospital. Watch Lake/North Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department Chief Andy Palaniak says the call came in around 5:45 p.m. Friday, and a first responder was in the area and on scene quickly. He explains the motorcycle operator had a passenger and was pulling a trailer when he lost control in some loose gravel on the roadway near the Watch Lake refuse site.

In order to avoid a collision with another vehicle, Palaniak notes the operator steered the motorcycle into the ditch and crashed. Several other fire department members also attended and controlled traffic while first responders stabilized the victims and awaited arrival of BC Ambulance Service personnel. The extent of their injuries is not known, but the fire chief notes both riders were conscious at the time when they were transported to hospital.

Long-weekend enforcement successful in the Cariboo Natural resource officers from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) visited a series of recreational spots in the Cariboo from Aug. 3 to 5 to help ensure residents and visitors enjoyed a safe B.C. Day long weekend. The officers conducted vehicle and foot patrols of more than 20 campsites, wilderness recreation sites and trail systems, covering over 1,800 kilometres near 100 Mile House, Quesnel, Williams Lake and in the Chilcotin. The MFLNRO officers noted more than 300 people were using the sites they visited. Most of them were co-operative and were complying with campfire and safety regulations. However, officers did issue warnings

to some all-terrain vehicle (ATV) users who were driving on forest service roads without the required insurance coverage. Several other ATV users were not wearing helmets. In addition, there were a few infractions related to the consumption of alcohol on a public beach. The officers also discovered campfires that were left unattended or had been abandoned before they were properly extinguished and the ashes were cold to the touch. Ignoring British

HOPE SPRINGS Steve Carell, Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones Kay (Meryl Streep) and Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones) are a devoted couple, but decades of marriage have left Kay wanting to spice things up and reconnect with her husband. When she hears of a renowned couple’s specialist (Steve Carell) in the small town of Great Hope Springs, she attempts to persuade her skeptical husband, a steadfast man of routine, to get on a plane for a week of marriage therapy. Just convincing the stubborn Arnold to go on the retreat is hard enough - the real challenge for both of them comes as they shed their bedroom hang-ups and try to re-ignite the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place. • Comedy • Rating: PG • Parents: Sexual Content • Length: 1:40

BUY A GARAGE SALE PACKAGE AT THE 100 MILE FREE PRESS AND WE’LL HELP YOU HAVE A GREAT SALE! 10 TIPS TO A GREAT SALE! 1. Place your advertisement for 2 weeks in our classified section. 2. Call friends and neighbours to see if they’d like to do a sale together. The bigger the selection, the more customers you’ll have. 3. Give yourself a couple of days to get organized. 4. Gather boxes, newspapers, and bags to use during the sale to package purchases. 5. Set your dates and times. The first and middle of the month are paydays for many people. 6. Take the time to clean up your items… products will sell better when they look “taken care of.” 7. Make the most of your display by setting up in a visible area such as the front yard, the driveway or near the curb. Don’t tuck yourself and your merchandise in a dark garage. 8. Label everything for sale with tape. Price it so you might consider buying it for yourself. 9. Before the sale, go to the bank. Get plenty of small bills and change to have on-hand. Keep a calculator handy for quick adding. 10. Be an entrepreneur. Make extra money by selling canned sodas, lemonade, etc., to shoppers. If you have kids, have them do this! B.C. puts LNG power commitment into regulation Minister of Energy and Mines Rich Coleman has announced British Columbia’s Clean Energy Act has been updated to enable the use of natural gas to power liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants. Effective immediately, LNG export facilities, and the electricity generation used to power them, are excluded from the Clean Energy Act’s 93 per cent clean and renewable energy requirement. Premier Christy Clark announced government’s intention to clarify its clean energy policy to include natural gas last month during a meeting with

the Business Council of B.C. This change will ensure the LNG industry can access a reliable, timely and cost-competitive mix of gas-fired and renewable power generation to meet its large electrical demand. The 93 per cent clean energy target will continue to apply to non-LNG load and will ensure the majority of B.C.’s power requirements will be met with renewable resources. The province will have world-class air emissions standards for gas-fired power generation to support LNG plants. This will apply to both high-efficiency combined cycle

Venerable Robina Courtin Returns to Gendun Drubpa to offer 5 days of Buddhist teachings including a

gas generation and simple single-cycle peaker plants, where they may be required, by developing policy to guide both BC Hydro procurement and environmental reviews. All infrastructure built will be subject to B.C.’s environmental assessment process. B.C. has a goal of three LNG facilities in operation by 2020. The construction of three large LNG and connecting pipelines could result in up to 1,400 ongoing jobs and $600 billion in gross domestic product over a 30-year time frame. To learn more about B.C.’s natural gas sector, including full details about government’s LNG goals, go to www.gov. bc.ca/ener/natural_ gas_strategy.html.
