Copper Mtn. Production Results 2012
Copper Mountain Mining Corporation (TSX: CUM) (the “Company” or “Copper Mountain”) announces production results for the year ended December 2012 from the Copper Mountain mine located in southern British Columbia. In 2012 the mine shipped approximately 59 million pounds of copper, 20 thousand ounces of gold, and 402 thousand ounces of silver generating an estimated $247 million in gross revenue. Since the first shipment of concentrate in September 2011 the mine has continued to make one shipment per month to the smelters in Japan. The mine produced 57 million pounds of copper, 19 thousand ounces of gold, and 354 thousand ounces of silver during operations in 2012. The mill averaged 82% operating time for the year and milled a total of 9.4 million tonnes at an average grade of 0.343 % Copper. Mining activities continued from the Pit 2 and Pit 3 areas and averaged approximately 170,000 tonnes per day. During the 2012 year a total of 55 million tonnes of material was mined, including 12.5 million tonnes of ore and 42.5 million tonnes of waste. The projected life of mine strip ratio is 2 to 1 but higher in the early years. Production guidance for 2013 was issued on December 21, 2012 as approximately 80 million pounds of copper, 35 thousand ounces of gold, and 315 thousand ounces of silver. Site cash cost were estimated to be (incl. mining, milling, maintenance, admin, and engineering) of $1.25 - $1.30 per pound of copper produced net of precious metal credits. (Calculated based on $ 3.40 /lb Cu, $1,500/oz Au and $28.50/oz Ag). Total cash costs (incl. site costs, smelting & refining, transportation, interest and taxes) were estimated to be between $1.80 - $2.00 per pound of copper produced net of precious metal credits. From an operational point of view, mining will continue in both Pit 2 and Pit 3 in 2013. Approximately 16 million tonnes of lower grade material will be stockpiled for processing towards the end of the mine life.

In November of 2012, Council announced that a new doctor had signed on to practice locally. A positive piece of news for residents given the growing concern regarding local medical care since the Emergency Room closures four nights per week began May 1, 2012. Once the program she is involved in is complete, Dr. Sandhu will begin practicing in Princeton in August of this year. More positive news for Princeton comes in the form of additions to both the hospital and to the health care services offered there. In March, a Mr. Sean Walsh will join the health care team

Walsh is experienced in outpatient, inpatient and home care in the areas of rehabilitation, long term care and acute care services. He feels that Princeton will be a good fit as he, “enjoys working in a smaller environment where you can get to know and work closely with everyone on the health care team.” Walsh looks forward to the move to Princeton and to the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor activities the area has to offer. MEDICAL - continued from page 1 “I think that Sean Walsh will be a good fit for us.” Princeton has been without a Physical Therapist for over three years. Having a Physical Therapist in Princeton will expand the types of patients that PGH can care for—like those recovering from accidents, or those requiring convalescent care. “Patients will have a much faster return to home community,” said Brown. Cascade Medical Centre has been undergoing upgrades and renovations in order to provide a more conducive space for physician practice. Services at PGH will also be enhanced with the addition of three new pieces of equipment valued at approximately $80,000—not including installation costs. A new tub for the acute care side of the hospital will aid in the care of patients with mobility and specialized care issues. The lab will benefit from new testing units; Hematology and I Stat Analyzers. “We are committed to maintaining and upgrading PGH,” said Brown. “Princeton people are great people,” she added. News from the Hospital Auxiliary Doreen Poulsen Hospital Auxiliary
2012 was a good year for the Hospital Auxiliary and Thrift Shop. The funds we collected from our sales at the thrift shop, gift shop, raffles, fashion show and bake sale enabled us to contribute to our hospital, Ridgewood Lodge, Princeton Extrication Society and many other worthy causes. We are already committed to some substantial contributions to the hospital and Ridgewood Lodge for 2013. One thing we are
not too happy about is that we will have to start charging and remitting sales taxes on some of our merchandise in the very new future. Did you know that the Hospital Auxiliary is a totally volunteer run organization. We have about 40 members at the present time. Our largest endeavour is the Thrift Shop located on Vermilion Avenue between CoCo’s and the Country Kitchen. If you’ve never paid us a visit, why not pop in.

SpotlightOPINION Auditor General’s process bungled Black Press Guest Editorial
Flip-flops aren’t unusual in politics but the back-and-forth over B.C.’s auditor general takes the cake. On Wednesday, the five members of a legislative committee voted to renew John Doyle’s contract for two years. That wouldn’t generally be significant except the same MLAs had only decided a week-and-a-half earlier that they didn’t want him at all and weren’t willing to grant him a second, six-year term in office. It would be interesting to know what occurred over the last few days to change the committee’s collective mind. Are any initial reservations over Doyle’s activities now irrelevant? Or was the reversal a direct result of the furor that erupted over Doyle being handed his walking papers? Of course the actual reason for canning Doyle and then welcoming him back will never be known because the committee hides behind confidentiality rules. And that is unfortunate as the Liberals and the NDP — both represented on the committee — have always presented themselves as the defenders of openness and transparency. The residents of B.C. have a right to know what has been going on behind the scenes as the auditor general represents their interests when it comes to the spending of taxpayers’ dollars. They must have confidence that the process that appoints an auditor general is thorough and not at the mercy of political games. But with no firm details being released, there is only one explanation for the public to consider — Doyle’s contract originally didn’t get renewed because he has been critical of the Liberal government and now he’s been endorsed because Premier Christy Clark told the committee to bring the controversy to a close. The entire mess just shows it’s business as usual in Victoria.
Mystery Person; Who are these people? Check next week’s Spotlight for the answer. 1) Using first names, name 5 of the 7 people in this photo taken at Branch #30. 2) Name all 7 and you are a very observant person with a good memory. Princeton May 8, 2013 …......……………………… Merritt June 12, 2013 ..…....………………….. Princeton Meetings are held in the School Board Office and start at 6:00 p.m.
Help save history~Granite Creek needs you We feel it is time our local government steps in to protect historic sites in this area. As many know, our passion is the local history. For years we have been asking to have the Granite Creek town site (which is on Crown land) protected. We have asked it to be put on the RDOS Heritage Registry. Currently there are no Area H locations on that registry. Recently, when a placer claim inside the town site came available, we decided to stake it. By doing so, no one else can dig on the site. We offered the claim back to the Mineral Titles branch so that they could put a “no staking reserve” on the site. It cost us $104 to stake it, and when we contacted Mineral Titles they had absolutely no interest in protecting the site. It would cost us over $800 to renew our claim and we won’t be doing that. Only a few months remain to protect the town site from future mining activity should someone else decide to stake it. We have been told that it would be too expensive to add Granite Creek to the RDOS Heritage Registry. We explained that we have maps, photos and documentation of the site and will volunteer our time to assist them. It shouldn’t cost anything. They were adamant that it would be expensive. RDOS recently suggested turning the Granite Creek town site into a park in order to protect it. We thought that was a fantastic idea. Unfortunately, the idea seems to have died as quickly as it was suggested. We are told how important tourism is to the area. Our valley is dripping in history, however, that history is not being protected even if it means tourism dollars.
In the late 1800s, thousands of pioneers worked dawn to dusk to open up this area that we all call home. They travelled great distances to petition the government for money to build roads and bridges. Once they got that money, they did the back-breaking work themselves. As prospector Judge Thomas Murphy said in his Memoirs in 1930, the Granite Creek prospectors “had generous dispositions which never failed to respond to appeals for assistance or to relieve the distressed and unfortunate. The lives of all these men are closely associated with the early history of this country, on which they have left an impression so deep that future years cannot obliterate it. They are always noted for self-reliance, rugged endurance, and sterling worth.” Let’s not turn a blind eye to what they did for our valley. Don’t you think it is time our government did something to protect the legacy of these prospectors? Isn’t that the least we can do to honour their memory and thank them for opening up our valley? Perhaps RDOS will listen if more people petition them to protect the Granite Creek town site. We are only two voices, but surely there are others who agree the site should be recognized and protected. If you agree, please send an email or letter to RDOS asking them to add the Granite Creek town site to their Heritage Registry and to turn it into a park to protect it from vandalism and digging. Council hears report from Exhibition Society Lisa Carleton lisa@similkameenspotlight.com
President of the Princeton Exhibition Society (PXA) Paul Bedard, presented the past years accomplishments, this years budget plans and an overview of the PXA’s five year plan to Mayor and Council last Monday. In 2012 the grounds played host to six major events, several minor events and is home to horses with various barn rentals. President Bedard was pleased to report on the following upgrades; Concession - largely successful due to the volunteer work by the Bernard familycost of upgrades and repairs much less thanks to them. Fencing, hazard tree removal, roof repairs
(All Purpose Roofing), wheelchair access to the washrooms and tractor repairs all took place in 2012. PXA is currently working towards an electrical upgrade and the Grandstands are set to have an extension of the bleachers to ground level put on in April. President Bedard commented on the excellent cooperation between members of PXA and all user groups. He also offered “Kudos” to Councillor Jason Earle whom has “been instrumental in helping the PXA organize and set forward their planning.” On behalf of Council, Mayor Armitage extended his thanks to the PXA committee and members, “We appreciate your time. Hats off to all of you and for your efforts.”
Christy Clark’s so-called“jobs plan” will kill BC jobs! “Recent BC Liberal forests policy changes will increase raw log exports to China, while local companies lay-off workers and shut down mills due to shortage of wood. It makes no sense.”

Royal Canadian Legion News - George Pearkes Branch #56 - Princeton, B.C. FRoM ThE PRESIDENT
Hello to all Legion members in Princeton. I would like to introduce myself to you if you do not already know who I am. My name is Jim Turner and I am the new President of the George Pearkes Branch 56 of the Royal Canadian Legion for this year 2013. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of our members that do not normally visit our branch and also the regulars that are always down visiting our branch and enjoying the camaraderie of the members and friends that they have been meeting there for the past several years. I am looking forward to a good year and by that I mean that we have several things planned this year in the Legion that might interest a lot of people including the youth of our town. Over the past year we have been quite successful in our endeavours to keep the Legion financially stable as everyone knows that the economy is in a sluggish mode so we try to maintain that we as a community organization remain in the forefront by trying to help out where we can.

Special Olympics Princeton
Valley First Credit Union employees in Princeton participate in many community activities and fundraising initiatives throughout the year. Special Olympics Princeton would like to extend their thanks to the employees for the funds they raised for Special Olympics by participating in the Casual/Jeans Days on Fridays at Valley First.
The cheque is presented by staff member Shandel and staff member Holly (Bocce coach for Special Olympics) to athletes Lynda, Diane, Dana and Megan. The funds the Valley First employees raised will be used to assist the latest Special Olympics sport this year, which is snowshoeing. It will also assist in travel expenses for Dana and Megan who have qualified for Provincials in Bocce. The Provincial will take place in Langley in July of this year.
Grief and loss support group begins in February
God has called me to be a watchman. It’s time for people to wake up and recognize the urgency of this hour. There is no better way to invest money than in The King James Red Letter Edition Bible. The End Time Prophecies are being fulfilled before our eyes. There are only two classes of citizens in the entire world, Believers and Unbelievers. When we die there are only two places to spend our eternity —in Heaven or in Hell. The choice must be made according to the lifestyle that we choose to live and to serve. Sadly, many people choose the wrong Master and too often it is ‘SELF’. WARNING: The Tribulation period is for seven years; 2013 to 2020, but God will cut short the time for the elect’s sake. We are in a Spiritual Battle. The End Day Events are being played out on the world scene just as Jesus foretold in Matthew Chap. 24. There is a War brewing that will involve every living human being. That is a ‘Currency War’. The occult One World Government is the culprit who has plotted the destruction that will be accomplished. Chairman Bernanke of the U.S. Federal Reserve has warned that there will be a global bank collapse because the banking system can’t be supported any longer. From many sources the predictions claim the disaster will occur in February 2013. The financial loss will be severe for the wealthy and investors. The poor class will suffer equally because it will result in the cashless society being implemented. The Bible warns us in Revelation 13. The counterfeit of the Creator’s Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit will appear on the scene to deceive many, even the elect if possible. The evil empire of the One World Government Money Masters are being controlled by Satan, The Anti Christ and the False Prophet. What will happen in 2013 will be so catastrophic, many times worse than the Great Depression that occurred from 1926 to 1935. The only way anyone can buy or sell is to take the mark of the Beast on the right hand or forehead and bow down to worship his image. DO NOT TAKE THE MARK OF THE BEAST OR YOU WILL BURN IN HELL. Repent and ask God’s forgiveness of sin. Come into the Kingdom of God. The Righteous and Holy bear His Mark. Everyone reacts in their own way when it comes to grieving the loss of a loved one however, it is a process that you do not have to go through feeling like you are alone. Jamie Holloway, a Medical Social Worker for Princeton is offering residents the opportunity to participate in a Grief and Loss support group. “A group setting offers the opportunity for discussion in a safe, confidential and supportive environment,” said Holloway. Sharing within a group setting helps to connect with others who are grieving, raises awareness and an understanding of the grieving process and provides the support needed to carry on in life without your loved one. The local Grief and Loss support group will begin a 10 week program on Feb. 6 and will run every Wednesday until April 10 from 1 p.m., to 3 p.m. There is no cost to participate. “Grieving is not about getting over it—rather it is about accepting that we have been forever changed by our losses.” For more information or to register for the Grief and Loss Group, please contact Jamie at 250-295-4464 or via email, jamie.holloway@interiorhealth.ca

Princeton Arts Council update Marjorie Holland Princeton Arts Council
This year promises excitement for Princeton as the Arts Council builds on foundations laid in 2012. Last year we were able to register as a charitable organization. This process helped to determine our longterm objectives and align us with other arts councils. Our application for charitable status coincided with a thorough review of the Guidelines by the Canada Revenue Agency, clarifying the purposes and restrictions for all arts groups seeking to maintain charitable status. Here in Princeton, we are already heading in the right direction. We are currently applying for the funding necessary to ensure that we can contribute to provide a broad spectrum of arts events. The concert series is scheduled to continue in the spring, featuring Irish dancing, African drumming and classical string quartet. Music will continue with a series of free performances in the Gazebo through the summer. We are already planning for the third annual Spirit Festival, celebrating aboriginal culture in the Similkameen Valley. The
Crimson Tyne Players are busy auditioning for their next play, an adult comedy scheduled for April. The visual artists will continue to support the Sunflower Gallery and have already scheduled regular meeting dates for informal drawing and painting practice at Riverside and around town. We also hope to install another piece of art in a town park for the enjoyment of all, extending our Art in Public Places program. These activities reflect a narrow band of possible artistic endeavours, being those which our members have been eager to promote. There are many other forms which are not represented and we feel sure that there are people in the community who would be interested in sharing their particular passion for the arts. As we plan into the future, we encourage other artists to contact us in order that we can include their interests in our budgets, and seek out specific funding for those new forms. Our goal is to extend enjoyment of all aspects of arts and culture within our community. For more information, check our webpage at princetonarts.ca or email us a princetonartscouncilbc@gmail. com
AUXILIARY - from page 2 We are open to the public Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are looking for anything, please give us a try—maybe we have exactly what you are looking for. If you don’t see it, just ask, we may have it in the back. Keep checking in with us because, just like Winners, we have new stuff coming in daily! I would like to say thank you to all our regular loyal customers who come by each week. Also, another big thank you to those Princetonites who contribute to our
shop. Unfortunately, there are a few who deposit electronics (large TVs) and furniture outside our door. We do not accept these items due to our limited space. The majority of our volunteers are senior ladies who then must drag in these items and then the items have to be taken away to the landfill. Next time you have an item like this perhaps one of the other thrift stores may accept it or you could take it directly to the landfill. Give us a call at 250-295-7214 if you have any questions.

CAPRICORN: Capricorn, honesty is the best policy but you do not always have to be so forthcoming with your opinions. Employ tact if you are asked for your opinions on certain issues. AQUARIUS: Even a minor disagreement could have you licking your wounds, Aquarius. Don’t use this week for sulking. Get back on the horse and dust yourself off. PISCES: Pisces, avoid potentially sticky situations this week. It is better to defer to an expert even if it means making a financial investment. ARIES: Aries, you have been living life in the fast lane, but this week you may need to apply the brakes. If you’re not careful, you could miss out on some exciting stuff. TAURUS: Taurus, someone you know may feel like he or she deserves something that you have. Do not validate any jealousy and take the higher road by not engaging the situation. GEMINI: Gemini, provide a steady and strong hand to keep someone you love on the right track. It may not be easy to be so supportive, but do what’s necessary to help a loved one. CANCER: Cancer, although you are very persuasive this week, you should focus all of your attention on selling yourself to others in the workplace. This can make promotion imminent. LEO: Leo, you might sense that something isn’t quite right this week with a couple of people you know. Don’t be shy about asking questions to get to the bottom of the situation. VIRGO: Virgo, it can be difficult to believe the truth sometimes, especially when the news is not what you want to hear. Don’t let disagreements cloud common sense. LIBRA: Libra, mixing business and pleasure is not the right approach this week. Avoid starting new romantic relationships with someone in the office and focus on work. SCORPIO: Scorpio, remember that risk may ultimately bring reward when considering an investment opportunity. With this in mind, you may want go out on a limb this week. SAGITTARIUS: Sagittarius, you are on a roll and you probably have no plans to slow down for anyone. Try to slow down and help others if you find yourself with some free time. FOR ENTERTAINMENT ONLY
bowl and add remaining salmon. Pulse a few times until chunks become bite-size pieces. Gently form salmon into 4 patties, not overworking, to make a tender burger. Lightly coat the cut sides of buns with spray. Oil the grill and place burgers on grate; cook for 4 minutes on the first side and 2 minutes on the flip side. Place cut side of buns on the grill to toast, right after flipping the burgers. Remove patties and buns from grill.

Recipe notes: * If fresh dill isn’t available (dill season peaks in summer and early fall), substitute flat-leaf parsley. * You can make your own cocktail sauce with 1 tablespoon of natural ketchup, 1 teaspoon of horseradish, and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice. * If you don’t feel like grilling, saute the patties in 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
