Information session planned for potential council candidates By Treena Mielke An information session for potential candidates who are considering letting their name stand in the fall municipal election is being planned for next month. The town of Rimbey will host the meeting Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. to give new and incumbent councilors a heads up regarding council’s role in municipal politics and to answer questions potential candidates may have. Donna Tona, senior corporate consultant and vice president operations of Transitional Solutions Inc. will be the speaker at the session
titled, ‘I Care About My Community,’ at the Rimbey Community Centre. Tona is looking forward to leading the session as well as visiting her hometown. “It will be great to come back to Rimbey,” she said. “The town has so much potential. It has a huge trading area, it is becoming more well known and it is in a good location. Although Tona views Rimbey as a municipality with the potential for growth, she notes there has been some stagnation over the years. “I see Rimbey at the tipping point of expansion.”
Tona sees growth as a positive for the community and encourages the public to be open to it as more growth fosters positive change and progress. “No one should be afraid of growth,’ she said. During the info session Tona will discuss the role of the municipal government. “They (councillors) need to remember they can’t go in there with the attitude, ‘I’m going to change the world,’ but need to remember they are a team and they have to go by the rules set out in the municipal government act.”
She said councillors have to abide by rules and procedures and she believes the word ‘transparent’ is overused. “It’s an empty word. It means nothing.” Councilors need to explain to the constituents they will be as honest as possible and divulge as much information as legally possible, but land, legal and personnel issues need to be discussed in-camera (behind closed doors). Constitutents may not always understand council’s actions and councilors need to be willing to explain their position as best they can. Continued on page 3

Steel for ag centre to arrive next month By Treena Mielke There may be only a pile of dirt there now but residents shouldn’t be surprised to see some action happening fairly soon around the site of a proposed new agricultural building. Shirley Ingram, secretary of the Rimbey Agricultural Society’s board said plans are progressing, although work has been delayed slightly. She said cement pilings are to go in later this month and the steel for the building is to arrive Sept. 16. “We are a bit behind, the pilings were supposed to go in in July but things are progressing now.” Ingram is pleased there will soon be some evidence the building will, indeed, soon become a reality. “Once people see the actual construction it will be easier to get volunteers. Right now they think it’s a
dream,” she said. Although there is little evidence that the Agrim Centre is progressing, work behind the scenes continues. The design and development phase is completed and the mechanical and electrical designs have been finalized. Ponoka County has been a major contributor to the project donating $500,000. Future Ag. from Red Deer has contributed $5,000. The board is hopeful more private and corporate sponsors will come forward to lend financial support to the $4.5 million dollar building. Donors are also encouraged to purchase square footage at $25 a square. The approximately 60,000 square-foot building is to include a riding arena and a 900-seat grand-
stand as well as meeting space and a boardroom. The ag centre is to be built with an outside balcony. Builders will use green technology in the construction of a solar wall and rainwater will be used for the building’s non-potable water needs. Ingram thanks all who took part in a raffle put on by the ag society to raise funds. The winners of the sides of beef were Kevin Graham from Kitscotty and Wayne Grey from Rimbey. Dwayne Kelm from Calgary won the barbecue
Candidate information meeting Continued from page 1 “They must not be afraid of confrontation,” she said. Expanding council’s term to four years is a good thing, she added. “The first year they come in is a learning curve, the second year they begin to understand the rhythm of the municipality and the third year (election year) is referred to as a silly year. I’m very supportive of a four-year term.” Tona has an impressive track record of municipal involvement. She has more than 10 years of municipal management experience with the Calgary Police Service and has spent 21 years consulting for municipalities and the government. Her experience includes emergency trauma management, municipal consulting, bylaw and peace officer enforcement, auditing, interim management, professional speaking, training, and motivational programs. To date, only Mayor Sheldon Ibbotson has publicly thrown his hat into the political ring for a second term.

Thoughts on summer – then and now What have you done this summer? And what do you want to do? These questions, asked by the facilitator seated at the front of the room, were carelessly tossed out into the air sort of like balloons at a child’s birthday parTreena Mielke ty, bobbing about like On The Other Side little floating question marks. Being a reporter, and only here to cover the event, I retreated quickly into my safe impenetrable wall of silence, comfortable in the knowledge reporters like children are supposed to be seen and not heard. And so when my turn came I muttered something about being just here for the free food and to scribble notes which could be only inscribed by me, because no one else could ever read my pathetic attempts at shorthand and/or speed writing. “No,” the guy at the front said, gently but firmly, kind of like he was the boss and I was not, “you need to be part of this, too.” I had already listened to the others, noting their answers, bouncing like so many ping-pong balls around the table, were as diverse as the people themselves. Canning peaches for the first time ever. Going to Hawaii. Camping with the grandchildren. Decluttering. Riding a dirt bike. Teaching their child to ride a bike. Writing a book. Going on a cruise. Waiting for a new baby. Recording their mother’s history. Doing hot yoga. I enjoyed listening to the answers. I mulled their comments over in my mind, letting the thoughts get all mixed up, sort of like clothes tumbling about in a clothes dryer, in no particular order.
I used to do lots of canning when my children were little and when the lady talked about canning the peaches, I could see all those canning jars, the fruit clearly visible inside, all neat, all carefully placed in a row on the kitchen counter. And I recalled the feeling of accomplishment that is stored invisibly beside the last jar. In my mind, I recalled tightening the last lid and finally leaving my kitchen all neat and only slightly sticky and smelling of summer. In my mind’s eye, I could see the curtains fluttering over the kitchen sink. Yellow, they were, and almost transparent. And I could imagine the young parents teaching their child how to ride a bike. I could see the bike and the child, the wheels turning wobbly, but surely. The training wheels gone forever. It’s fun! It’s exciting! The parents so need to enjoy that fleeting little moment, because I’m here to tell you that years later when the child is in the driver’s seat for the first time it is no longer fun and exciting. It is just scary. I remember my daughter, aged 16 saying, “Mom, some day you are going to have
to let me drive when it snows.” Anyway, back to my turn. I went camping with some of my grandchildren, I say, and I have this big backyard birthday/ concert planned. And that’s it. I’m done! Questions answered. But, I want to tell them how I was surprised by joy when I went camping. I wanted to tell them how I am and will forever be amazed at how a few days away from adult type stuff gave me a chance to smell the roses – except of course there were no roses, only the sun filtering through the trees in a way that filled me with unexplained happiness. And I wanted to tell them how camping gave me a chance to walk and talk with a little girl with sunlight in her hair and eyes bluer than the bluest of blue summer skies as we looked for rocks shaped like diamonds and non existent bird nests. But, of course, I didn’t because they didn’t have all night, and I had to get back to work. But, for me the questions stirred lots of summer time thoughts about what was! And what is left to come. And it was good!

Detroit is broke but it can rise again As it happens, I was in Detroit last month. It’s broken, and it’s broke, and now it’s officially bankrupt too. But bankruptcy is actually a device for escaping from unpayable debt — and although two-thirds of Detroit’s population have fled in the past 50 years, there are reasons to believe it could flourish again. It was the race riots of 1967 that triggered the city’s decline. Large numbers of African-Americans from the southern states migrated to Detroit to meet the demand for factory workers during and after the Second World War. They started in the unskilled jobs — and even after they had acquired the skills, they stayed in low-paying jobs because of racial prejudice. Spurned by the unions and victimized by a racist police force, they eventually rioted in the summer of 1967. Brutal policing made matters worse and hundreds were killed, but the worst consequence was the fear that the violence engendered. The great majority of the whites just left town. The big automobile companies also took flight and the new car plants were built elsewhere. As the jobs disappeared and the population dropped, the tax base fell even faster. The city could no lon-
Gwynne Dyer Guest Columnist
ger afford to provide good police or medical services, so even more people left. This vicious circle has lasted half a century but the bankruptcy might give the city’s government enough leeway to begin rebuilding public services. If they are restored, much else could follow. Let me explain what brought me to Detroit early this month. We were doing what we dubbed the “Rust Belt Art and Architecture Tour”: driving from Buffalo to Cleveland and then on to Detroit. All these cities took a terrible beating as the industries they were built on died or moved overseas. But three generations ago, when they were the industrial heartland of the United States, they were very rich — at just the right time. The first decades of the 20th century were the heyday of art deco, the most beautiful architectural style of the modern era. That was also the period when newly rich captains of industry could scoop up bucketloads of new European and Amer-
ican art: impressionist, expressionist, abstract, the lot — and they lived mostly in what are now the Rust Belt cities. So they put up dozens of art deco towers. They also filled their homes with best of modern art — and, in the end, donated most of it to the local art galleries. Even in Detroit, where so much has been lost, more than half of those buildings are still there. So is all of the art. In a post-industrial economy where people have more choice about where they live, these are assets that can actually attract population — especially since, in Detroit’s case, the people who left didn’t go far. Most of them are still out there in the suburbs that surround Detroit. The city of Detroit’s population has fallen from two million to 700,000 over the past 50 years but the metropolitan area’s population has stayed stable at around 4.5 million for all of that time. The job, really, is to bridge the devastated middle ring of low-income Detroit housing and reconnect the outer suburbs with the city centre. Detroit can rise again. It just takes the right strategy. Seniors get help with paperwork By Treena Mielke Seniors who are wondering how they will make ends meet when unexpected expenses come up need to check out the possibility of receiving financial assistance from the provincial government.
Carolynne Jensen, seniors’ information & referral services coordinator says there is financial help available to low income seniors who qualify for benefits as well as old age security. Eligibility for a benefit is determined by the type of
accommodation the senior lives in and, his or her marital status, and income. Eligible seniors have had to live in Canada for 10 years and be eligible for the federal Old Age Security pension. Seniors with an income of less than $25,800 or married seniors with an income of less than $41,900 may receive reimbursement for medications, housekeeping services, home care, appliances and other necessities. To help seniors fill out the forms
necessary to qualify for a program offering financial assistance they can visit the seniors information referral centre. The centre is located downstairs at the Rimbey & District Drop-In Centre and is open on the second Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon or call 403843-2030. Jensen or one of a group of trained volunteers will provide help in filling out the necessary forms to receive the type of assistance needed.

New dentistry practice to open By Treena Mielke A Wainwright dentist has plans to expand his business by opening a practice in Rimbey early next year. Derek Nordstrom plans to house his dental clinic in his new 12,500 square-foot building now under construction in Evergreen Estates. He said about one third of the building is to be used for the practice and the remaining space is available for lease. He said he is looking forward to setting up his practice here. “Rimbey is a wonderful town and my wife and I are excited to be part of the community.” Nordstrom’s wife, Angela, grew up in the Rimbey area and the couple is pleased the business venture will put them and their nine-monthold son Truman closer to family. Nordstrom foresees his practice, Nordstrom Dental, as making available three or four full time jobs upon opening with a potential for 10 or more at a later date. “Rimbey is a great place to expand the business,” he said.

Black powder shoot attracts young and old By Amelia Naismith The Blindman Valley Rod and Gun Club brought a whisper of the 1800s back to life with a black powder shoot they opened to the intrigued public. On July 27, the club hosted a black powder shoot for members and the public. In attendance were enthusiasts ranging from well-seasoned seniors to children as young as four. The atmosphere, while smoky, was one of safety and ease. A range safety officer manned each gun station and everyone present was equipped with protective eye and ear wear. Those who attended the shoot had the opportunity to fire revolvers, six-shooters and rifles. “All of those are actual replicas of the rifles that would have been used in the 1800s,” said organizer Neil Handford. Handford has been shooting since he was nine years old but only came into the idea of hosting black powder shoots four years ago. “It was a dream.” “Two guys got me started on this about four years ago. We just decided to put it together,” he added. While there are clubs using black pow-

der guns, Handford says it’s a rare occasion when the public is given the opportunity to attend the range as guests for a fully supervised, hands on experience. When it comes to shooting Civil War era guns safety and fun go hand in hand. Although the day was organized for fun and play — to introduce newcomers to the sport — and allow those already interested a chance to pass on their knowledge, the responsibility of the guns haven’t been brandished lightly. Almost every shooter, including the youths, saw and was walked through how the guns are loaded. Powder was measured — less than what would normally be used to minimize kick and power — patches were cut and lubricated, then inserted along with the bullet. The bullet was pushed partially down the barrel and a ramrod finished the process. The youths were treated to the pre- and post-processes to firing the guns to not only pique their interest but also make them responsible shooters. “All those kids, that’s the future of our shooting sport,” said Handford. He believes once seniors reach
a certain age they won’t care about their guns and it’ll be up to younger generations to keep the sport alive and positive. “That’s something we’re trying to portray to the public. Yes, firearms can be very dangerous but if it’s handled correctly, it’s a good sport,” said Handford, who wanted the shoot to act as a public awareness message. Britney Reithmayer attended the shoot with the Koening family and shot a gun for her third time. “It’s a good experience. It’s something different,” said Reithmayer, who liked how the supervisors were always around to answer any questions and helped her learn to load and clean the guns. Her favorite part was hearing that sweet little ‘ding’ when a bullet hits its intended mark. “I didn’t think I’d actually be able to hit a target.” A variety of targets, ranging from playing cards turned sideways to larger animal-shaped models, were used to test shooters’ skills. “None of them are at the marksmen level, we just play” said Handford. Black powder shoot Continued from page 9 Range safety officer Ryan Nichol agrees hearing the “ding at the other end” is the best part of the sport. “I think marksmanship goes back a long way, so I think it’s an important skill,” he added. Using guns responsibly is a “way of life” and like many families who pass down hunting traditions, Nichol’s granddad, father and uncles, who were shooters and trappers, all encouraged his interests. Nichol’s been shooting for the past 27 years, since he was three years old, and he also served in the reserves in 2005. “I guess that’s the other side. Marksmanship goes into a lot of areas.” Within the last five to 10 years shooting sports have exploded in Alberta as people become more and more interested. “Maybe some of it’s Hollywood. You see guns on TV and it looks cool. I think there’s a natural attraction to smoke and fire,” said Nichol. Parents and grandparents reliving of a past lifestyle are also bringing the sport to younger generations. Nichol says more people could “feel there’s value in the current geopolitical environment, to marksmanship.” “I wonder if people don’t think in the back of their mind whether or not they should be able to shoot a gun,” he added. With increased popularity and more people using firearms, safety needs to be prevalent. “I think a big one to underline is how to safely handle a firearm,” said Nichol. As more people are introduced to the sport, consumer demand will also expand the market within Alberta. Bass Pro Shop is working on its third Canadian location, the second for Ontario, with the other near Balzac and Airdrie. Also, Alberta has two Cabela’s locations; one open in the south Edmonton and another set for the north end. “Those are big, outdoor sport stores,” said Nichol. “We had trouble getting things (products) up here.” “It’s just about getting the public involved in shooting and developing a positive image in the public eye,” he added.

Rimbey teen wins first at talent show By Treena Mielke A Rimbey teen’s musical talent has launched him to the top of the charts at the Strathmore Stampede Talent Show. Seventeen-year-old Jaret Matthews won the talent contest Aug. 5 with the song Somebody’s Heartbreak by Hunter Hayes. He was among the top five chosen by audience ballot to advance to the finals.
As the first place winner, Matthews received a cash prize of $800. The young singer is thrilled with his win. “I was very surprised. I was very nervous. There was a huge crowd of strangers that I had to play in front of. But I’m just so happy to win something like that for doing something I absolutely love,” he said. Matthews, who placed fourth
at the Ponoka Stampede Talent Contest has been playing guitar and singing since he was around 11-years-old and received a guitar for Christmas. He is a self-taught musician and enjoys playing all types of music. “I learned to play by ear and have had some help from the Internet. I enjoy all genres of music. I don’t really have a favorite.” Continued on page 15

Swimmers needed for Somalia fundraiser By Treena Mielke A Swim for Somalia fundraiser may be sinking if some participants don’t come forward. Emily Falk, president of BRITE, the Red Deer Chapter of Global Enrichment Foundation has a fundraising swim planned for Aug. 17 at the Rimbey Aquatic Centre. It has the potential to be a great way to raise funds for a worthy cause, she said. The fundraiser swim is to include two sessions (9 to 10:55 a.m. and 11 to 12:55 p.m.) Participants will be assigned to a lane and will swim for one hour and 55 minutes. Those who have registered as a team of two will be required to have one member in the water at all times. The registration fee of $10 is to include swim admission, snacks and door prizes. Pledges may be based on flat amounts or individuals can make donations based on the number of laps they completed. Donations of $25 or more will receive a tax receipt. Falk is excited about the swim and is working hard to make it a fun and enjoyable time as well as a positive way to direct dollars towards helping women
in Somalia. “We look forward to meeting you on the 17th as we join in solidarity to support both the local and global community,” said Falk. “It will be an excellent morning, there will be a chance to meet new people, mingle, listen to live music performed by local artists, delve into tasty snacks, and enjoy the beautiful outdoor facility that the Town of Rimbey has generously donated for this event.” In a letter to council she noted holding such an event would be a positive for the town and for The Aquatic Centre. “Businesses will greatly benefit from the influx of swim participants, thus boosting the town’s economy. Additionally, the Rimbey Aquatic Centre will benefit from the influx of individuals into your new facility – building a wide network of support as individuals spread the word about the facility.” In a press release, Falk stated The Global Enrichment Foundation, founded in 2010 by Humanitarian Amanda Lindhout is a non-profit organization dedicated to igniting leadership through educational and community-based empowerment programs, while undertaking humanitarian and life-saving emer-
gency interventions in times of crisis. The Somali Women’s Scholarship Program provides Somali women with an opportunity to transform themselves and their country by enabling them to become leaders in their community through the provision of four-year undergraduate scholarships, paving the way for a new generation of female leaders as they take their rightful role in the development of their country. The Global Enrichment Foundation collaborates with 14 private universities in Somalia to provide 36 young women with an opportunity to pursue an education, contribute to their community and build a stronger, more peaceful and more inclusive society. The press release states SWSP students are given a full scholarship as well as a monthly living allowance, and the chance to participate in local leadership and empowerment initiatives. “Through participating in the 2013 Swim for Somalia, you can show your support for these girls and young women; empower them to dream, achieve their educational goals, and reach their fullest potentials,” said Falk. To enter swim contact Emily at emily@globalenrichmentfoundation.com or call 403-843-2437.
Rimbey teen wins talent show Continued from page 13 Playing in front of an audience is not easy, but Matthews said once he begins his performance, he is able to settle down and focus. “It is nerve wracking before I start singing for sure, but once I start singing everything closes off. I can see them (the audience), but then they all melt away and I’m fine.” Matthews is a graduate of Rimbey High School and is now working at NAPA. His future plans aren’t set in stone but he is considering a career in music and is hopeful he will get more exposure.

RCMP Forensic Identifcation Section assisting Rimbey Mounties This week, the Rimbey RCMP responded to 52 calls for service. Highlights include impaired drivers, break and enters, thefts and other criminal matters. Midnight shoppers hit various businesses in town breaking into several buildings during the early morning hours. Officers are currently investigating the matters with the assistance of the RCMP Forensic Identification Section. Police are taking this matter seriously and are utilizing all available resources to catch these criminals. Mounties target well-known offenders Police arrested three different wanted persons in the Rimbey area over the weekend. Your local Mounties are committed to
keeping our community safe and are targeting all well-known habitual offenders ensuring that they are abiding by all their court ordered conditions. This has resulted in numerous charges being laid for breaching court orders. A fisherman’s tale RCMP conducted boat patrols on Gull Lake over the August Long Weekend. Boaters on the lake were checked for valid licenses, safety gear and for impairment. In one case, an angler reported that he had caught a 10-pound walleye which he had allegedly released back into the lake. However, the lucky fisherman did not have a camera with him to capture this great feat on film. One officer considered charging the man, because it has to be criminal to catch a
whopper like that and have no picture to prove it! Thieves mistake diesel for gas Stealing while officers were conducting a foot patrol in one part of town after the midnight hour, bandits hit parked cars in another part of town trying to siphon gas. Reportedly, several vehicles were targeted for gas but one was diesel. Once the thieves realized they were stealing diesel they gave up. The victim in this case, chuckled when reporting this to police because the midnight shoppers had overlooked a full jerry can of gas in the back of the truck they were trying to siphon from. Speeders caught near Gull Lake Police were out this week on Highway
771 near Gull Lake conducting patrols seeking speeders after members of the Gull Lake North Citizens on Patrol advised the detachment of record breaking speeds being observed before the breakfast hour. Unbelievably, tickets were written for over 60 kilometers over the posted speed limit. Several vehicles were seized and towed. One arrest was made. In total, there were over 40 speeders charged by Rimbey Mounties. If you have any information regarding this or any other crimes, please call the local Rimbey RCMP Detachment at (403) 843-2224 or Crime Stoppers: PHONE: 1-800-222-8477, #8477 on Telus Mobility. *8477 on Rogers AT&T Crime Stoppers is a community program that does work! ODENBACH January 21, 1920 ~ August 3, 2013
WRIGHT August 2, 1984 ~ August 1, 2013
Surrounded by his loved ones, Albert B. Odenbach of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre ~ Area Three on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the age of 93 years. Albert was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on January 21, 1920, and moved with his family to Rimbey, Alberta in 1925. He attended school, finishing Grade 8, and in 1939, Albert purchased a quarter section of land at the north end of Gull Lake. During World War II, Albert proudly served in the Canadian Army for nearly five years as an assistant surveyor. He was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1950, Albert was united in marriage to Mary Reis and together they raised a family of four children on the family farm. During this time, he also worked as a bookkeeper for Harwil Construction for 33 years. Albert actively farmed until moving full time into Rimbey in 2002.
It is with heavy hearts that we bid goodbye to our son and brother, Robert “Rob” John Victor Wright of Rimbey, Alberta who passed away suddenly near Valleyview, Alberta on Thursday, August 1, 2013, one day away from his 29th birthday. Rob was born in Red Deer, Alberta and grew up in the Bentley and Rimbey areas. He was a friendly and outgoing person who made friends wherever he went. Rob was a member of the #65 Ponoka Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron for five years, and truly enjoyed his time with them. For the past six years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator with Richardson Brothers Construction and loved his job.
“He will be forever remembered for his gentle nature, witty sense of humour, and his infectious smile. Albert was liked by all who knew him and will be missed by many.”
Rob will be forever remembered and leaves behind his loving parents, Lawrence and Shawna Wright of Rimbey; his two sisters, Janine (Mathew) Torgerson of Rimbey; and Jennifer (Dallas) Druar of Manola, Alberta; and his two brothers, Michael Wright of Rimbey; and Aaron Tabin of Edmonton. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandparents, John and Kate Simpson of Rimbey; and Walter and Gisele Hull of Valleyview; as well as his long-time love, Jessy Burnett of Rimbey; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Rob was predeceased by his mother, Laura Simpson. A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Rob’s Life was held at the Rimbey Church of the Nazarene, Rimbey on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Reg Darnell officiating. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Rob’s Memory may be made directly to the #65 Ponoka Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron, Box 4234, Ponoka, Alberta T4J 1R6. Condolences to the Family may also be expressed by e-mail to: special_reflections@telusplanet.net
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary; and his four children: Andy (Debbie) of Blackfalds; Arny (Fiona) of Sherwood Park; Tony (Cathy) of Red Deer; and Linda (Ken) Boese of Innisfail. Also missing their grandfather are his nine cherished grandchildren: Jennifer, Theresa, Steven, James, Andrea, Jeff, Connor, Colin and Kristy; as well as five special great grandchildren: Ashley, Raelynne, Jacob, Danika and Levi. Albert is also survived by his brother, Rueben of Rocky Mountain House; his sister, Helen Frank of Ponoka; his brother-in-law, Joe Reis; and his sisters-in-law: Ann Krossa, Edna Schmidt and Thordis Reis; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Albert was predeceased by his parents, Christian and Wilhelmina; two brothers and three sisters; as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law. The Rimbey Care Centre ~ Area Three, was Albert’s home for nearly three years with Mary at his side each and every day. The Odenbach Family would like to thank the staff of Area Three for all their care, compassion, understanding and support during this time. A Public Funeral Service in Celebration of Albert’s Life was held at the Rimbey Community Centre, 5109 - 54 Street, Rimbey on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Al Lewis and Pastor Mark Schultz officiating. Interment followed in the Legion Field of Honour, West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Albert’s Memory may be made directly to the David Thompson Health Trust, c/o Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre ~ Area Three, Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0; or to the Royal Canadian Legion, Rimbey Branch No. 36, Box 508, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0. Condolences to the Family may also be expressed by email to: special_reflections@telusplanet.net
