108 Water restrictions tightened The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) has imposed new water sprinkling restrictions for users of the 108 Mile Ranch water system, starting on Aug. 13. Even-numbered addresses may now water only on evennumbered days of the month, while oddnumbered addresses may only water on odd numbered days. Furthermore, the use of yard sprinklers is only allowed from 6 to 8 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. during these days. CRD Area G Director Al Richmond says the reason for the tightened watering restrictions is overuse of the water system, which has drawn down the ground water in the 108 Mile and Sepa lakes aquifer. “I don’t know what has gone on this year, but there has been a substantial amount of watering after hours and on some large acreages. “If they don’t cease their after-hours illegal watering, we’ll have to curtail it further. Some offenders have been found, but the CRD has been unable to

find them all, he adds, leaving it without the ability to maintain community water pressure in the evenings. “I’d ask people to really seriously watch the watering hours, so

we don’t have to further curtail [restrictions].” The July interim report is available online at www.cariboord.bc.ca. For further information or questions about the report, contact the

Wranglers will hold volunteer fair Aug. 18-20

With equipment and other items arriving on a daily basis, 100 Mile House Wranglers Junior B Hockey Club president Tom Bachynski says excitement is really building for the start of the season. “As we see this stuff happening, we [club executive] are pinching ourselves and realizing we’ve got to giddy-up because this is really going to happen in a couple of week. “I think everybody has butterflies; we’re anxious and excited. There’s a big bucket of emotions that is going on ... and it’s all good. The next big event for the Wranglers is the Main Camp, which starts at 3 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 18) and ends with the Blue & White game at 7 p.m. on Aug. 20. (See details on page 4.) Folks are encouraged to come down to the arena to check out the action. There is no admission fee except for the Blue & White - $2 and a non-perishable item for the local Food Bank. During the Main Camp, the club executive will be hosting a Volunteer Fair.

Folks will be able to sign up to help in one of 10 volunteers areas – off-ice officials, special events, Booster Club, event staff, billeting, equipment manager, guest services, marketing and sales, media personnel and beverage garden. Club executive assistant Kersti Foote says each of these areas needs someone to chair it, except for marketing and sales, but volun-

teers will also be needed to help in all of these areas. Executive members will be manning the booth at the Main Camp and will have handouts detailing what chores need to be done in each area. They will also be able to answer questions potential volunteers might have. They want to sign up all of the volunteers they need to help the club run as smooth as

silk. Bachynski says they hope to get enough people, so no one feels they need to be at the rink for all 26 home games. Scheduling is also something that can be discussed during the Volunteer Fair. “Anybody who wants to find out what they can do and how they can [help out], this would be a great opportunity to come in and watch a little bit of hockey and

It is official – Junior B hockey is underway in the 100 Mile House, and area residents are invited to come down to the South Cariboo Rec. Centre to catch some of the action. The 100 Mile House Wranglers Junior B Hockey Club’s Main Camp runs Aug. 18-20 and spectators are welcome to drop in to see which young men will make the Wranglers lineup. There is no admission charge for the Main Camp except for the Blue & White game, which will see the camp’s top prospects working hard to crack the Wranglers squad,. The Rec. Centre’s concession will be operating during the Main Camp. Upwards of 90 players will be competing in the Wranglers Main Camp. Players are not only from British Columbia. They will be coming from as far away as the Yukon, Alberta and the United States. At least a dozen 100 Mile boys will be vying for a spot on this seasons’ roster. Donation jar stolen in grab-and-dash At 4 a.m. on Aug. 12, a male entered the 100 Mile House 7-Eleven and walked around in the store. He waited until staff were occupied and then grabbed a donation jar off the front counter and tried to run out the door. The jar was wired to the counter, so he pulled a number of items onto the floor before the wire broke and he ran out of the store. The amount of the money in the donation jar was approximately $30. The male was described as wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and white shoes with a grey bandanna partially covering the lower part of his face. He is described as being Caucasian and approximately 5-foot-3, with a thin build and dark blond hair. Anyone having knowledge of this incident or knowledge of the identity of this individual is asked to call the 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800222-TIPS (8477).

briefs Following are the highlights from the July 12 Cariboo Regional District (CRD) regular board meeting: Police investigations Independent Investigations Office

(IIO) of BC chief civilian director Richard Rosenthal and senior investigator Ralph Krenz presented information about the IIO to the board. The IIO has jurisdiction in the investigation of on- and off-duty police officers in the province whenever a serious or major police incident occurs.

The board heard how the three key goals of the IIO are to complete thorough, fair and competent investigations; improve the timeliness of investigations; and improve transparency and accountability through public reporting. Workshop goodies The board authorized up to $350 for the cost of coffee and tea service, plus two lunches for the facilitator, at two Northern Interior Communities

Association (NICA) Grant Writing Workshops to be held in 100 Mile House and Williams Lake this month. It is the third year the CRD has partnered with NICA, which assists non-profit organizations in northern British Columbia to write and submit successful grant applications to the B.C. Community Gaming Grant program, to bring their workshop to the Cariboo through the CRD’s Community Grant Writer program. The board noted about 60 people attended the workshop in

2012, which resulted in successful applications and appeals submitted to the gaming grant program. The money will be apportioned equally from each of the Electoral Areas D, F, G, H and L Director Initiative funds.
