Man accused of break-ins Paul Rudan Campbell RiveR miRRoR

A man charged with breaking into two homes remains in jail until he can perfect bail. Gregor Ringham, 43, of Campbell River is charged with break and enter to commit mischief, being unlawfully in a dwelling house, and possession of a break-in instrument. He was arrested by RCMP after they investigated a Nov. 15 break-in at a townhouse complex on Creekside Way. Ringham is also accused of being inside a Holm Road residence. Following his arrest, Ringham agreed to remain in custody and is presently being held at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre in Victoria. On Monday, he appeared by video in Campbell River provincial court for a bail hearing. Judge John Joe granted bail, but, as of Tuesday, Ringham was still in custody.

An electrical fire caused significant damage to a family home on Lynnwood Road Saturday afternoon. No one was injured in the blaze which was traced back to an electrical circuit in the attic. Seventeen firefighters from the No. 1 and No. 2 halls, along with three engines, responded to the fire around 4 p.m. in the 100 block of Lynwood. “Once on scene, heavy smoke and fire was visible,” said Fire Chief Ian Baikie in a news release. “Quick action by crews contained the fire to the attic space where it originated. However, there was extensive fire damage to a large portion of the attic space.” Also, with the colder weather, the chief reminds residents to ensure their home fire and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly.

A line-up greeted Shoppers Drug Mart employees outside their new store in Timberline Village Saturday morning. The eager shoppers wanted to get a look at the brand-new store and be one of the first 200 people to snag a complimentary goody bag. The store opened at 8 a.m. to a variety of activities and specials, including 20 draws for $25 Shoppers Drug Mark gift cards, free makeovers and skin analysis with beauty experts. At the Nov. 13 board meeting, directors from Areas A, B, C, and D were hesitant to grant the municipalities access to what’s called “Part 26,” a service that deals with land issues in the regional district’s four electoral areas. The debate was prompted by a report requested by the board from the regional district’s Chief Administrative Officer Russ Hotsenpiller on the implications of including the municipalities in Part 26. “Since the regional district’s inception in 2008 all five municipalities have chosen to opt out of

participating in Part 26 services,” Hotsenpiller said in his report. He said if the municipalities – Campbell River, Gold River, Sayward, Tahsis and Zeballos – want to opt into the planning service for electoral areas, the municipality would pay a fee and in return would be eligible to vote on all planning issues on a one director one vote basis. That would mean directors from Campbell River could vote on whether or not to grant a property re-zoning for someone on Cortes Island. Hotsenpiller said there is also the option of partial participation, but it’s a more complicated agreement and participation would be up to the discretion of the electoral area directors. Hotsenpiller did cau-

tion that having the municipalities participating in electoral area land use decisions is not a typical practise for the Strathcona Regional District. “This would be a departure from the historical land use planning regime of the SRD,” Hotsenpiller said. “Having municipal votes contributing to the determination of land use applications in rural areas will represent a change to the general public and there will need to be some caution and consideration given to public education.” Prior to 2008, when the Strathcona region and Comox Valley were tied together as one regional district, a similar model in which both rural area directors and municipal directors made land use service decisions

School meetings changed to be more inclusive The board of education has decided to change the format of the district’s Education Committee Meetings in an attempt to make them more valuable for trustees, parents and school communities. Meetings will now be held three times a year – fall, winter and spring – and

centred on a district educational focus instead of on an individual school. The meetings will still be held on a rotational basis within schools, however all parents and community members will be invited to attend as opposed to just those affiliated with that particular school.

Jim Abram, director for Area C (Quadra Island/ Discovery Islands), said the model “didn’t work” because municipal directors constantly defeated the electoral directors. “The electoral directors were always out-voted by City of Campbell River directors on all occasions. Campbell River had numerous directors at the table, it wasn’t fair,” Abram said. “It wasn’t a very good model. Nothing against the Campbell River directors on it. Often times we had agreement, but there were times we didn’t and it got heated.” Brenda Leigh, Area D director (Oyster River, Ocean Grove, Buttle Lake) didn’t think it would be right for the

municipalities to make decisions on areas they’re not familiar with. “I don’t participate in land decisions involving Campbell River, Tahsis or Zeballos and I don’t think, to be fair, they should be making decisions involving mine,” Leigh said. Noba Anderson, director for Area B (Cortes Island) agreed. “I think this fundamentally gets away from local control; voting on areas I know little about it,” Anderson said. In the end, the board shot down a motion to refer the issue to both the municipal services and electoral area services committees for further consideration and no further action was taken.

Beginning to look like Christmas There may not be snow on the ground, but Christmas is definitely in the air. You may have taken advantage of the recent spell of dry weather to put up We say: ‘Tis the decorative lights. The Santas are now season of giving all ensconced at local malls. And the hype for seasonal sales is building. once again It’s hard to escape the commercial trappings of Christmas. Nor should we. Livelihoods depend on it. But amidst the hustle and bustle of the next month, it’s important to take some time out to think about, and

reach out to, those who don’t have the means to indulge, who can’t afford to get their kids the latest toy sensation, who don’t have proper winter coats in their closets, who can’t put a holiday feast on their dinner table, who may not even have a home to keep them warm. There’s no shortage of groups and organizations who work hard all year to help make life a little easier for people who are struggling. Those struggles are magnified in the holiday season, and all the expectations it brings. For those of us hustling from store to store, fulfilling wish lists, it takes but a moment to drop some spare change into the Salvation Army red kettle at the front

door, or to drop a winter coat, mittens or hats at a business holding a coat drive, or to place a few cans of hearty soup in the Food Bank box at the grocery store. Better yet, pitch in by volunteering some time and energy to those worthy groups. They’re busy this time of year, and would likely appreciate the help. Or pledge to make an effort to help out through the year. Need doesn’t go by the dates on the calendar. They’re small gestures but for those on the receiving end, they’re blessings. And isn’t that what Christmas is all about? – Black Press

What community is about A few of us were sitting around Foggdukkers Coffee when Jack, a regular, pulled up on his electric mobility scooter. Jack had a stroke a few years ago, and he taught himself to walk again, but he has to use a four-footed cane in his one good arm to get around. As he was maneuvering himself off of the turned off scooter to come into the covered patio, it lurched forward and almost knocked him over. He didn’t want any help and laughed it off in his good nartured way, but it generated some discussion. That was a close call. The scooter has seen better days. It has no lights and no protection from the sometimes harsh winter weather that the North Island is infamous for. A little research made it obvious that mobility – and electric mobility scooters – are a luxury for the financially-independent or the insured. There is very little funding available for people on income assistance and Canada pension. So, on Saturday Nov. 23, between the hours of 11 and one, we put together a BBQ to give all of Jack’s friends the place to show their support for him. B.C.’s carbon neutral scheme is sinking

Two days after Energy Minister Bill Bennett announced the demise of the Pacific Carbon Trust, the public accounts committee convened at the legislature to pound a few more nails into its carbonsequestering coffin. Assistant Auditor General Morris Sydor was there to defend his report from last March that concluded the B.C. government was not “carbon neutral” in 2010, because the trust paid $6 million for hastily arranged offset projects that were not valid. An Encana Corp. gas flaring reduction project at Fort Nelson and a forest preserve in the Kootenays would have proceeded without assistance from $25 a tonne carbon fee imposed on hospitals, universities, colleges and until last year,

school districts. In fact they did proceed without this subsidy. The government continues to deny this, but not many people outside the international carbon offset sales racket believe them. The Pacific Carbon Trust’s functions will continue, Bennett said. Instead of a board of directors and 18 staff, five people headed by an assistant deputy minister will evaluate projects and bestow millions taken from college, university and health authority budgets each year. B.C.’s school districts are still paying $5 million a year to offset such nefarious activities as heating their schools. But now the money goes into a “Carbon Neutral Capital Program,” and districts have to apply to get their money back for emission-reducing projects.

This is going so well, according to Bennett, that post-secondary institutions and health authorities will be converted to a similar program in the years ahead. How is that school program going? Here are some examples. The Coast Mountains School District around Terrace paid $66,452 for carbon offsets last year. It got back most of its three years of offset payments as a grant to complete a boiler upgrade for its Kitimat high school. Abbotsford and Nanaimo school districts each have to pay about $100,000 a year. They got money back for school boiler upgrades as well, although local school officials say that would not likely have been the top priority for spending, if it hadn’t been for the program that

forces districts to spend grants immediately on emission reduction. Surrey school district paid out $585,000 last year, and also upgraded boilers. Vancouver’s pitch this year was for three electric cars. Leaving aside the distortion of spending priorities caused by this restrictive tax-and-spend scheme, what happens when they run out of boilers to upgrade? And has it occurred to the government’s “carbon neutral” braintrust that those new boilers are still burning natural gas? This program is about to be foisted onto universities and hospitals. Does anyone actually believe that heating hospitals and college classrooms is a key driver of global warming? Presumably our carbon czars know that 40 per

Tom Burton’s hard work is paying off. More than four months ago, the former Campbell River SPCA volunteer mounted a campaign to raise money for the SPCA to build its own shelter with the help of some of the community’s largest businesses. On Monday morning, Burton saw his efforts at Walmart pay off as store manager David Hunt presented the SPCA with a cheque for $2,906. The money was raised over a period of one week at the end of September. Customers had the option of making a donation as they came through the check outs. Walmart then matched those contributions. On Tuesday, after the Mirror went to press, Burton was also preparing to collect a cheque for the SPCA from Save-On Foods, which also got on board Burton’s fundraising campaign, Raise the Roof. At Save-On, customers with Save-On More Rewards cards were able to redeem their points in 1,000 point increments towards the SPCA’s building fund. Every 1,000 points were converted into $1 for the SPCA, with Save-

On matching the points donated by its customers. The funds are going towards an account set up by the BC SPCA at Scotia Bank earmarked to go towards a shelter built and owned by the BC SPCA. Stephanie Arkwright, local SPCA manager, said the building fund is separate from the temporary pet adoption and education centre the SPCA is

working to open. “When people donate it’s going to a long-term shelter, not the one that’s opening up,” Arkwright said. “The centre we’re opening is going to be a leased property but we’re hoping down the road to build our own shelter.” The SPCA ceased its shelter operations in Campbell River over the Easter weekend after the city awarded the animal

impound contract to Coastal Animal Control. Since then, the BC SPCA has been working to reestablish its presence in the city and is currently in the process of working with the city on a re-zoning for a site the SPCA has its eye on. The SPCA is targeting a place it can lease 2-3 years or until it can afford to build its own shelter.

Cougar Annie’s tales brought to life on Quadra, Cortes

heatre Quadra and the Whaletown Community Club will host Cougar Annie Tales – a treat for lovers of story, song, West Coast history – and gardens. On Friday at the Quadra Island Community Centre and on Saturday at the Gorge Hall on Cortes Island, “Pick of the Fringe” Actress/ Singer Katrina Kadoski stars in a multimedia one-woman-show about the legendary Cougar Annie. Nominated for Best New Play by the Victoria Critics Choice awards. “Her musical ode to Cougar Annie is a treat to behold,” John Threlfell said in CVV magazine. In the early 1900’s the legendary west coast settler Cougar Annie was anything but a typical woman. She trapped over 70 cougars, homesteaded a rainforest bog, opened a remote post office, and outlived 4 husbands. California-born Ada Annie Jordan settled in the Clayoquot coastal rainforest in 1915 with her first husband and three young children. A five-acre garden that she carved out of the wilderness provided food and income throughout her long life. The bounty on cougars supplemented her income and she earned her nickname of Cougar Annie by shooting over 70 of the animals. Annie gave birth to eight more children in this remote location, and in fact rarely left the property until old age and blindness forced her removal to Port Alberni, where she died at the age of 97. Singer/songwriter Kat Kadoski lived in Clayoquot Sound for three years caretaking Cougar Annie’s garden

xcitement is building for the arrival of the Banff Mountain Film Festival to the North Island. Every year hundreds of adventure filmmakers from every corner of the globe gather in Banff, Alberta for a week long festival of film, books, photogra-

Alcoholic 25-year-old is ‘doing life on the instalment plan’ Paul Rudan Campbell RiveR miRRoR

At age 25, Cameron Harry’s alcoholism keeps leading him back to jail. “He seems to be doing a life sentence on the instalment plan,” noted Crown prosecutor Tim Morgan. Harry is back behind bars in Victoria. On Monday, he appeared by video in Campbell River provincial court where he pleaded guilty to stealing liquor and breach of probation. “He’s a pleasant fellow who wants help,” suggested defence lawyer Kevin McCullough. But Harry is known to be violent when he’s drunk. In the last six years, he’s racked up six convictions for assault, two for assault causing bodily harm, resisting arrest, pointing a firearm, and more than a dozen counts of breaching court orders. Last winter Harry was living in Campbell River and was under a court order to not be outside his residence when he was impaired. But on the night of March 23, police were called to the Cedar School field to investigate an assault. The bloodied and uncooperative victim was found and Harry was also located nearby. He had blood on his hands and two bottles of liquor. Harry wasn’t charged with assault, but he was given a four-month conditional sentence to be served at home. He also intended to enter residential treatment for his alcoholism, but it’s unknown if that ever occurred. He later moved back home, to the West Coast community of Kyuquot, but was still required to report to probation in Campbell River. On Nov. 3, according to McCullough, Harry saw his probation officer, but didn’t have the money to return home. Instead, he joined up with another man and the two of them each stole a 26-ounce bottle of vodka from the Royal Coachman Cold Beer and Wine Store.

The theft was immediately reported to police, but the culprits were already gone. However, RCMP were able to identify Harry through the surveillance video. Harry wasn’t arrested until Nov. 18, when

Mounties went to investigate a fight in progress. At the scene, they also found Harry who was drunk and arrested him for theft and breach of probation. He’s been in jail since then. According to Morgan,

when Harry drinks, “he basically steals with impunity from local liquor stores and other residences.” He hopes Harry will get help, but Morgan also warned the Crown will proceed by indict-

ment – a more serious charge – the next time he’s arrested for theft. This time Morgan asked the judge to impose a five-month jail sentence. Harry’s lawyer suggested 30 days was enough and said the

court should be seeking ways to find help for Harry, not just sending him back to jail on the “instalment plan.” He told the court that Harry was one of 15 children raised by alcoholic parents. Harry began

n Sunday the Campbell River/Comox U18 Mens rugby team won the British Columbia Rugby Union U18 Provincial Championship played at Oak Bay’s Windsor Park Field. The game pitted the two best junior rugby teams on the Island: Oak Bay’s CastawayWanderers and the Campbell River-Comox Kickers. The game did not start off the way that the visiting team had hoped as they gave up two tries in the first 10 minutes of play and found themselves behind 12-0. The Kickers fought back

The Kickers’ game plan was to use their superior size and wear down the smaller, yet very skilled Castaways team. “Our plan was to eventually wear them down and then capitalize with our bigger players controlling the ball and game,” said head coach Darren Munro, who was assisted by Jim Ebert. “The lads did an excellent job of sticking to the game plan and executing what we as coaches had set out for them.” The plan was working

as the score was tied at 24-apiece with about 10 minutes to go and the Campbell River/Comox players controlling the ball and moving down the field. Even the best laid plans can go awry, however, and the ball squirted out the side of a ruck and the Castaways were away and running. U12 boys host jamboree with win, loss and tie The Campbell River U12 Boys soccer team played host this weekend to seven teams from the Upper Island Soccer Association. The Campbell River boys had their first match of the day against Port Alberni. After a slow start, the boys got a few close opportunities from corner kicks by Sam Budden. The first well-placed ball by Budden created an opportunity for Stefan van de Vlasakker but the ball went wide. On the next corner, Trevor Nast tried heading into the net only to have the ball also go

diving save minutes before the final whistle to preserve the clean slate. The second game had the U12 boys up against a fleet-footed Harbour City Football Club. Although the boys managed to keep possession of the ball more than half the game, they were unable to finish and went down 4-0 to the stronger Nanaimo team. The final game of the day was against the Midisle Highlanders who came out strong, scoring within minutes of the opening whistle. Campbell River was unable to finish in the

first half but with some strong defense by Sam Gale they held Midisle to one goal. The second half saw a much stronger offense by Campbell River but despite numerous attempts, they were unable to convert until Budden kicked a corner that Brad Cooke got a knee on and the game finished in a 1 - 1 tie. As well as hosting a successful jamboree, a bake sale was held to raise money for victims in the Philippines. Hot chocolate was donated by Pathfinder Travel and the team raised $322.

In rugby the convert is attempted straight out from where the ball is placed down in the try zone, or “in-goal area.” The convert was placed 10 meters in from the sideline and about 25 meters out, making this a very difficult kick. Caton stood over the kick and as soon as he struck it he knew it was good. “I had been having some difficulties kicking the past couple of weeks but as soon as it left my foot I knew it was good,” says Caton. This put the Campbell River/Comox boys up 31-29 with three minutes to go. “That last three minutes was the longest of my life,” says Munro. When the final whistle went the local lads were very excited to be provincial champions. Strong games were played by all the boys but some standouts were Callum Passingham, who scored two tries, Foster Dewitt and Jackson Locker with 1 each. Sharp shinned hawk down; leave no bird behind I recently went on a rescue mission to the Point Holmes area of Comox after receiving a call about a hawk in distress. It was unable to fly and was sitting in front of the house. However, as often happens with rescues, the bird had run for cover just before I arrived. Although it could not fly it was able to run along the ground and disappear into a hedge. After a short time we finally managed to flush the bird to an area where I was able to grab it. My first thoughts were that it was a merlin but without further examination I could not be certain. The bird was taken back to Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society (MARS) where it was examined for injuries and identification. At that time, there were no visible injuries but the hawk was obviously in distress so it was kept warm and quiet over night. Unfortunately, as is a common occurrence with birds that are highly strung, the hawk did not survive the night most likely due to internal injuries from hitting a window. Eventually we were able to identify the bird as a sharp shinned hawk; often confused with Cooper’s hawks, they are both classified as Accipiters and are distinguished from the merlin, which is a falcon, by their size and coloration. Adding more confusion to identification is that juveniles and adult birds change their colouration as they reach maturity. For the average bird watcher, myself included, it is very difficult to set the two hawks apart especially when in flight. The Cooper’s and sharp shinned hawks are very similar in coloration however, the Cooper’s hawk is much

Coniferous forests are the habitat of choice for sharp shinned hawks, but they have adapted well to urban areas provided there are trees nearby for them to hide

in. Sharp shinned hawks are daring, acrobatic fliers that use their long tails to navigate their way through dense wooded areas in pursuit of their favorite meal, song birds. What may seem savage to some is actually nature’s way of culling the sick or weak birds that are not alert or show abnormal behaviour. If you have feeders in your back yard but are noticing that they are being attacked by hawks, you may need to temporarily remove the feeder. Once you do this the hawk will relocate to another food source allowing you to replace

Driving into Campbellton off the Inland Island Highway offers views of concrete, industry, and commercial trucks. But thanks to a surprise discovery that’s all soon about to change. Volunteers from the Campbellton Neighbourhood Association and the Adopt-A-Highway program spent all day Sunday clearing out

Morgan Ostler, a volunteer with Adopt-AHighway, said the pond, which sits in a triangular-shaped piece of green space at 14th Avenue and the Inland Island Highway, is a jewel for Campbellton. “At one time you couldn’t see it,” Ostler said. “But we realized this is something to

enhance the community. We hope to beautify it in the summer.” Ostler said she would love to see the pond used as a home for small fish or a gathering place for ducks. The pond, which was covered in a thin layer of ice as volunteers cut and trucked away stacks of branches and long grasses on a chilly Sunday morning, was discovered in July during the annual Broom Bash.

“Removing truckloads of broom and scrubalders revealed a tranquil pool,” said Coun. Ron Kerr, an advocate for improving Campbellton. “And our work crew were astonished that such an attractive spot had been concealed for years by rough bush.” Sunday’s clean-up was approved by the provincial Ministry of Transportation as an AdoptA-Highway project but the efforts were also a

part of the Campbellton Neighbourhood Association’s work to beautify and improve the northern end of the city. The Association is holding a meeting tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the Eagles Hall. Urban Planning students from Vancouver Island University who are studying Campbellton and Ken Blackburn from the Campbell River Arts Council are expected to make presentations.

For the past 15 years the Campbell River Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) has held an event called Starlight Shopping which marks the beginning of the holiday season. This year the event is scheduled for Friday, November 29th when Downtown will come alive! Shoppers Row, Tyee Plaza, 11th Avenue and Pier Street businesses will decorate their windows and stores. Most stores are open until 11:00 pm offering special promotions, hot mulled cider, hot chocolate, cookies or appetizers to name a few – a thank you for choosing to shop Downtown. Entertainment in Spirit Square will feature the Mission Hill Band, Shoo Shoo the Clown and Captain Thunderpants, Town Crier. Keep nice and toasty next to the roaring fire pit. Pacifica Ukes, Carihi Composition, Salvation Army Brass Band, Job’s Daughters, the Girl Guides, Shae Coe and Detailed Face Painting will liven up Tyee Plaza with music, face painting, taffy pulling, hot chocolate and cookie decorating. Children will enjoy pictures with Santa, free glow sticks, reindeer antlers, colouring books and candy canes. The tantalizing aromas of beef shawerma, falafel, pulled pork sandwiches, mini-donuts, Kettle Korn and candy floss will fill the air. Take a stroll over to the Art Gallery and learn how to create home-made Christmas cards. Wander along Shoppers Row and enjoy the Christmas lighting of red and green set off by white snowflakes plus the beautiful Christmas windows. A quick hop across the street from Spirit Square and you can enjoy music and coffee at Nesbitt’s Island Coffee and dancing by Raincoast Creative in the Tidemark Courtyard. Kicking off the evening is the much anticipated, ever popular Big Truck Parade sponsored by 97.3 the Eagle! There is nothing like watching these rolling works of art - the parade is magical. This year, we have over 40 participants taking the time and making the effort to become involved. We have trucks of all description antique fire trucks, dump trucks, semi trailers, crane trucks, tow trucks, a school bus, cement mixers and trucks towing boats. Starting at 4:45 from the bottom of Rockland Road and the Island Highway the trucks will travel along Highway 19A and finish at Tyee Plaza at approximately 6:00pm. Intersections at Rockland Road, 1st, 2nd , 3rd , 5th , 6th, St. Ann’s, 10th , 11th and 13th will be temporarily closed so please select an alternate route.

DOWNTOWN The Carihi Composition The Pacifica Ukes The Pacifica Ukes ukulele ensemble from Campbell River is a unique musical group which has earned a reputation both locally and abroad for their versatility and quality of their musical performances. The ensemble is comprised of students ranging from grades 6 to 12, selected through an audition process based on their musical skills on the ukulele and voice. The group has performed at local schools, public events and venues, and throughout Vancouver Island and the lower Mainland. A performance tour to Hawaii every three years is the goal that keeps the students focused and engaged. A diverse & talented group of passionate, young musicians. “The Carihi Composition” is an umbrella name for a group made up of students from Carihi Secondary’s Music Composition and Technology course. The course itself offers music students the chance to compose, record and produce their own music using state of the art technology. It is a wonderful chance for young people to engage in a semi-professional manner with the music industry. Raincoast Creative Performing Arts At RainCoast Creative Performing Arts, the goal is to train students in the multi-disciplines of Musical Theatre and Performance Art. New to the school this year are classes for speech arts and special needs students. Their unique approach has a strong emphasis on vocal training combined with choreography and acting. The RainCoast Creative team believes you are never too young to start exploring your creativity and has classes for toddlers, preschoolers and young children. If you are not sure that musical theater if for you, they also have “quick start programs” designed to give you a taste. With over 50 years of combined experience, instructors have a variety of artistic specialties from choreography to voice coaching. Mission Hill Family Band

Sweet family harmonies on traditional and original tunes. Fresh from their urban family farmstead located on Mission Hill in the Comox Valley, Mission Hill Family Band's music is as high quality and home grown as the tomatoes and cucumbers out of their garden. Companion planting musical genres like Brazilian choro with Western swing and old time to create unique recipes to satisfy a variety of musical appetites. Mission Hill grew out of an already vibrant musical household. In 2010 a family trip to a local music festival started them down the path to a fertile recording and performing career as a band. Coming from a tradition deeply rooted in family music and good food, the Mission Hill Family Band is sure to take you back to a simpler time, when live music and community were as common as cellphones and wifi hotspots are today. Captain Thunderpants

Captain Thunderpants is multi-faceted, multi-talented and multi-planetary children’s entertainer. He tells interactive stories, sings crazy songs and is the owner of the one and only ‘Wheel of Fun’. The Captain has been captivating and amusing audiences at festivals, school and library appearances and on his television segments for several years now. At a Captain Thunderpants show, there will be dancing, singing, silly games and activities that young kids and their parents will enjoy immensely, part game show, part Raffi, part craziness. Lots of spontaneity and interactivity and improvisation keep his show fresh and wild. After an engaging 45 minute or hour long show, the Captain usually likes to lead his audience in a parade to do the chicken dance here and there. Hailing from Edmonton and now residing on Vancouver Island he has been involved in many theatre productions, multiple bands and has been the family stage coordinator for the legendary North Country Fair for the last five years. The Captain has performed extensively for Vancouver Island Regional Library in multiple locations, various festivals including the Vancouver Island Music festival, the Wild Mountain Music Festival and most recently for Edmonton’s Downtown New Years Eve celebration to a sold out crowd. When the Captain wears a regular human earth suit he finds himself as a performing arts teacher on Vancouver Island and an educator for the Comox Valley Regional District.
