Council approves airport funding Council approved entering into an Airport Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) Contribution Agreement with Transport Canada that will provide a $39,115 capital contribution for a Runway Condition Reporting System at the Quesnel Regional Airport. NAV Canada provides air navigational service including air traffic control, aeronautical, airport advisory and flight information to commercial and general aviation throughout Canada. As a certified airport, Quesnel must provide runway condition reports to NAV Canada. Currently these reports are hand written and

faxed to NAV Canada. The number of reports forwarded to NAV Canada in a day depends upon weather conditions. NAV Canada is digitizing the submission process for runway condition reporting; for Quesnel this means updating our reporting methods to a digital format that will allow the uploading of reports directly into NAV Canada systems.

applications per week. The program is designed to help seniors remain independent at home and at this time, they have a core group of 12 volunteers. Secondary suites Council has approved the recommendation to draft an Official Community Plan Amendment and Zoning Amendment Bylaw to allow secondary suites in zones permitting single detached dwellings.

Two new members were appointed to Quesnel ‘s Museum and Heritage Commission for a twoyear term commencing January 1, 2014. Council welcomed newcomers Judy Anderson and Valerie Peters to the commission as well as two present members who have chosen to renew their memberships, Ellen Affleck and Bruce Steele. The Museum and Heritage Commission is made up of eight members-at-large plus a Council and CRD representative. There remains one 1-year vacancy on the commission due to the recent resignation of a commission member.

Council approved moving forward to assist with the process to have residents in the Gook Road/Dragon Lake area organize and petition the Cariboo Regional District to supply a sanitary sewer system to this community at the residents’ cost. Council proceeded with the first two readings of the three Business Improvement Area Bylaws which expire in 2013 after receiving the BIA’s strategic plans at council on November 18. The funds for a BIA are collected through a local service tax and only the businesses in the area are subject to the tax for BIAs. This means there is no net cost to the city’s budget.

Council appointed Alexandria Kostenko to the Tourism and Civic Price Committee for a two-year term. Council approved applying for and administering the 2014 NDIT Business Facade Improvement Program. Council approved applying for a grant through NDIT to have a local government management intern for one year starting May 2014. The program is designed to assist interns in local government work experience and act as a pathway to operational learning and placement. The NDIT provides $35,000 towards the cost. Net cost to the City is $20,500 over two budget years.

Chamber pushes Prosperity

Representatives of the Williams Lake Chamber, the Quesnel Chamber and Quesnel Community Economic Development Corporation travelled to Vancouver this week to send a clear message to Ottawa: B.C. needs the New Prosperity project. Jason Ryll, president of the Williams Lake Chamber of Commerce; Len Doucette and Allan Roberts, directors of the South Cariboo Chamber; of Commerce; William Lacy, vice-president of the Quesnel Chamber of Commerce and Len Sinclair, director of the Quesnel Community Economic Development Corporation joined forces with leaders of B.C. business, mining and mining supplier organizations at a media event December 10 in Vancouver to showcase B.C.’s support for the project. John Winter, president and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce, led the event. “We’ve come together to send a clear message to Ottawa: our province needs this project,” Winter said. “It’s our collective view that the New Prosperity project must be evaluated with full consideration for both the great social and economic benefits it would create and for B.C.’s proven track record of building and

operating mines in a safe and environmentally sound manner.” The federal minister of environment and the federal cabinet are expected to make a decision on whether to approve the New Prosperity project within the next few months. In the course of the event, Winter commended the Williams Lake, South Cariboo and Quesnel Chambers for their active efforts to promote the project in their communities. “Communities in the Cariboo have been hard-hit by the mountain pine beetle epidemic and are looking for ways to regroup and rebuild,” Winter said. “Our Williams Lake and South Cariboo Chambers have worked tirelessly, with the support of the Quesnel Chamber, to explain how much the region needs the jobs and opportunities that New Prosperity represents.” Over the past few years, Williams Lake chamber has poured huge efforts into delivering clear information about the project and to catalyze support in the community. The Chamber has held public meetings, met with officials and made videos highlighting the need for the project in the community. It has also worked actively to publicize both the direct and

indirect business opportunities that would flow out of the project and to ready the local business community to capitalize on those economic opportunities. The Quesnel Chamber has also been a strong supporter of the project. “We all understand that there is a process in getting this project through the planning stages,” Lacy said. “But the social and economic benefits associated with the Prosperity Project would help the region deal with the current economic conditions and help us transition into a more diverse economic center.” Adding to the support from Quesnel is the Quesnel Community Economic Development Corporation, represented by Len Sinclair. “The Quesnel Community Economic Development Corporation feels it is very important, and the importance comes from the local financial gains and job development, and more it sets a precedent that Canada is a good place to do business,” Sinclair said. “Eighteen years is too long to wait for development. The $100 million spent to push this project forward over the past 18 years could have potentially been spent on several positive initiatives in the community.”

Christmas around the world

hristmas is a religious holiday in Mexico and is traditionally celebrated during the nine days before Christmas and right up until January 6. Christmas starts with Las Posadas. This is a nine-day celebration with candlelight parades and parties. Children put on plays about the trip Mary and Joseph made to Bethlehem. At the parties, there are piñatas filled with fruit, candy, nuts and small gifts. Children try to hit the piñata with a stick so that it will break open. They do this with their eyes covered. Many families eat tamales and rice. Tamales are made from corn and filled with pork or chicken. Children drink Chocolate Caliente, which is like hot chocolate. The poinsettia is a bright red and green plant that blooms during the Christmas season. Poinsettia plants grow in Mexico. In Spanish, they are called “Noche Buena” or Christmas Eve. January 6 is the Day of the Kings and this is when children

receive presents in the shoes they put by the door on the night of the fifth. Of course, North American traditions like Santa Claus are celebrated these days in many larger communities. Feliz Navidad! In India, Christmas (in its Christian form) is celebrated by approximately 2.3% of the population. Midnight Mass is a very important service for Christians in India, especially Catholics. The whole family will walk to the mass and this will be followed by a massive feast of different delicacies, (mostly curries) and the giving and receiving of presents. Churches in India are decorated with poinsettia flowers and candles for the Christmas Eve Midnight Mass service. Christians traditionally decorate mango or banana trees at Christmas time. In some parts of India, small clay oil-burning lamps are used as Christmas decorations; they are placed on the edges of flat roofs and on the tops of walls. Churches

are decorated with poinsettias and lit with candles for the Christmas evening service. Father Christmas, or Santa Claus, delivers presents to children from a horse and cart. He’s known as ‘Christmas Baba’ in Hindi, ‘Baba Christmas’ in Urdu (both of those mean Father Christmas); ‘Christmas Thaathaa’ in Tamil and ‘Christmas Thatha’ in Telugu (both of those mean Christmas old man); and ‘Natal Bua’ (Christmas Elder Man) in Marathi. In Kerla Were state, he’s known as ‘Christmas Papa’. The Philippines has the longest Christmas celebration in the world. Predominately a Catholic country, Christmas is a serious affair. While the actual Christmas Day is the 25th, the celebration typically goes on during the months ending with

“ber”, right up to January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany. As early as September, when the dark nights come, it is not unusual to see a series of spectacular Christmas displays popping up in malls, parks and open spaces across the country. This article is one in a series produced under the Welcoming

But when it comes to your financial health, you might find that it’s a good idea to get started before 2013 ends if you want to be well positioned to take advantage of what 2014 has to offer. The first step is to conduct a thorough review of your financial life. Unless you know where you are today, you won’t be able to map out a strategy for tomorrow. You can start by making sure that your goals and objectives remain viable and realistic. And it’s very important to be clear on these, ensuring they’re well-defined and in line with your current circumstances in life. It’s especially important to revisit your financial goals if you’ve recently experienced major developments in your life, such as a change in employment, the birth of a child, or retirement. In trying to achieve your goals, you’ll want to help ensure that your investments are appropriate for your needs and risk tolerance, and that your portfolio is properly diversified. Indeed, having a sound investment strategy is critical. For example, all major asset classes should be considered for your portfolio. Keep in mind, though, that diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss. Of course, you should try to invest every year to help keep your portfolio growing. That means your spending, savings and borrowing should be under control. Examine your income and spending to see how you can divert more to investments in 2014. Another action you can take before the new year is to make an early Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) contribution. Although you have a few months before the deadline for your 2013 contribution, the sooner you get your money into the plan, the longer it has to potentially grow. Once this year’s contribution is out of the way, work on a plan to get your full 2014 contribution into your RRSP as early in the year as possible. If you can’t make a large lump-sump contribution at the start of 2014, set up a periodic plan that allows you to contribute monthly – though keep in mind that systematic investing does not ensure a profit or protect against loss. If you have unused contribution room from the past, formulate a plan to make up for those missed contributions in 2013. You’ll help boost retirement savings and reduce next year’s tax bill. You might also want to consider a Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA). A discussion you could have with your financial advisor is whether – based on your personal circumstances – you should contribute to your TFSA, RRSP or both. There may be more you can do today to get ready for 2014. Speak with your financial advisor to determine what actions you can take now to financially position yourself as effectively as you can for next year and beyond. Zero tolerance

t’s that time of year again where holidays parties are in full swing. Nothing new there and overindulgence is fairly commonplace. No big deal. People tend to eat too much, spend too much, drink too much. Then January rolls around and many vow to lose the weight, pay off the credit cards, etc etc. What also seems to be fairly commonplace, and is disturbingly so, is the lack of respect for laws and the right to be safe on our roads. It’s CounterAttack season and one would think with it being 2013 and the huge amount of education and publicity drinking and driving gets, it would be a thing of the past – sadly it’s not. Saturday night alone, local police checked more than 400 vehicles at traffic roadblocks throughout the community as part of the RCMP’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Strategy and ICBC’s CounterAttack campaign. As a result of these efforts, three impaired drivers were taken off the road. Police issued two 90 day immediate roadside prohibitions and one three day immediate roadside prohibition. Seriously? Those numbers are completely unacceptable. What’s your excuse? Didn’t have a ride? Cabs took too long? Wah. No one is listening to your pathetic attempts at justifying your incredibly selfish behaviour. We need to adopt a zero tolerance mentality for impaired driving and it starts at home. Then perhaps, our children, or our children’s children can grow up in a world where this type of behaviour doesn’t exist. –Autumn MacDonald, Observer

We will always love her – RIP mom

ur beautiful mother died unexpectedly last

week. I’ve wept over that first sentence for at least half an hour before finally writing this second one. My head and heart are overflowing with so many thoughts and emotions I’m not sure where to begin, except to say that we loved her more than she would ever know. Susan Ann Hetherington was her birth name and at the age of 17 she became pregnant with me. She married her childhood sweetheart, our father, immediately after they graduated from high school. Two and a half years after I was born, she gave birth to my brother and best friend, Jeremie White. From the beginning she made it her life’s mission to be the best wife and mother imaginable, and her efforts were noticeable to everyone who knew us. She was a fantastic cook,

On A Brighter Note a wonderful homemaker and it was obvious that she loved us deeply. To the outside world, we seemed to be a happy and healthy family - and initially, we were. None of us had any inkling that a dark mental illness would creep in and eventually destroy our beloved mother’s life, along with the majority of her most cherished relationships. Mom was loving, sensitive and deeply compassionate, but for whatever reason, she was a tortured soul and suffered from an invisible sickness that we couldn’t see, but we could certainly

and we never gave up hope that her tragic quality of life, and our weakened connections with her, would improve. But we simply ran out of time. At the young age of 65 her lungs gave out and she died peacefully in her sleep. It still doesn’t feel real. Our mother adored Christmas and she loved to give presents. On her behalf, and in her honour, I would like to offer this reminder as a gift for anyone who needs to hear it: mental health is the absolute foundation for physical health and we should never feel shame when seeking help for either. We love you so much, Mom, and we always will. Rest in peace beautiful angel – you touched countless people throughout your life and your story is already helping others to heal. feel. To neighbors, friends and strangers she was calm and kind, but with us, her temperament was wildly unpredictable. When we realized she needed psychological help, we tried to get it for her, but she would fervently reject the idea every time. She was mortified by the thought that anyone might think she had a mental health issue and categorically denied the possibility. Her verbal abuse became increasingly frequent as the years went by and her illness not only went undiagnosed and untreated, but was exacerbated by alcohol, prescription pills and an overall neglect of her physical well-being. It’s been intensely sad not to have the close relationship with her that we craved as much as she did. Her untimely death has been devastating since we never stopped loving her

I have been back to the area twice with rakes and shovels but both searches have turned up no results. We are filled with shock and grief over this situation. Our dogs were our family, loved like children. It is difficult to express with words the hurt and loss that we feel. We cannot understand how someone could possibly do this to innocent animals. We no longer feel safe in our home. Why couldn’t they have just robbed us of our possessions. We want justice. We would like to thank all the support we have received from the local community as well as the support from all across Canada. Raise the Roof Quesnel and District Teachers’ Association’s Social Justice and PR committees collaborated to purchase toques to support Seasons House’s Raise the Roof campaign. Toques were bought for each executive member in order to support our shelter and raise awareness of the issue of homelessness in Quesnel. All proceeds go to helping the homeless - 80 per cent stays locally and 20 per cent goes to national initiatives. This means $280 went directly to Season’s House. This Christmas for us is one of solace and quiet reflection. However, there are many people to thank for their prayers, love and support. Quesnel Junior not your average school

A little over four years ago, Correlieu Secondary and Quesnel Secondary changed the design of their schools. Out of this change, came Quesnel Junior School (QJS), a school that caters to all students who are in grade eight and nine in our city. This new school has a system where students are placed in groups of approximately 125 and these students work with a team of five teachers. The advantage is teachers get to develop strong relationships with the students they work with and also have the opportunity to meet as teacher teams every week to talk about students. This allows teachers to intervene when students are not successful and talk about strategies that they can use to help the student get back

on track. We know students get better grades when they are connected to school. We only have students in our building for two years, so it is critical we make these connections as soon as they walk through our doors. Teachers are able to get to know students quickly and because of the opportunity to collaborate, it doesn’t take long to notice trends with students who are struggling. The sooner problems are identified, the quicker an intervention can be put in place to help deal with the problem. This prevents students from falling too far behind. So, is all of this working? Yes! Here are some statistics: Honour Roll 8 – up eight per cent, Honour Roll 9 – up four per cent,

Principal’s Roll 8 – up 6.5 per cent, Principal’s Roll 9 – up six per cent, Work Ethic 8 – up 15 per cent, and Work Ethic 9 up 19 per cent! Not only are we up in our report card data, our failure rates and drop out rates have declined, as has our number of office incident referrals. However, we know there is always room for improvement. We are improving school culture by holding whole school assemblies every six to eight weeks. Our themes have been on the value of hard work and on kindness. When we remind students of our expectations, they rise to meet them. Therefore, we are working towards being transparent as to what we expect from students. A big part of this

is academic success. We want to compete with the best schools in B.C. We need our students to know there is a whole world they are competing with, not just this small community. And we need our community to become involved with spreading this message to our children – school is important; hard work is even more important; be focused, you might just change the world one day! If we talk about the great things that are happening in our school, even greater things will occur as a result. Let’s focus on where we want to go, and what we want for our children; you won’t believe the difference it will make! – Marissa Knauf, Vice Principal, Quesnel Junior School

Geraldine (Gerry) Stavely April 21, 1925 ~ December 14, 2013 Margret Christine Geraldine Stavely (nee Swain) passed away peacefully Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Dunrovin Lodge. Predeceased by her loving husband Henry Francis, grandchild Myrna-Lee Malcolm and Bradley Stavely. Gerry was loved and is survived by eight children, 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. The family wants to express their gratitude to Dr. Walker, the team of doctors and nurses’s from Baker Lodge and Dunrovin Lodge for the love and care they gave Gerry. No funeral at this time, to be announced at a later date.

Jenny Phillips, who runs Vile Pole Arts, posted on the Vile Pole Arts Facebook page that pole fitness is one of three sports that works every muscle in the body in a single workout. Now I can’t vouch for the other three sports, swimming and horseback riding, but it feels like just climbing up the bar engages 100 per cent of your muscles (that is if you do it in her far more graceful way and don’t just haul yourself up with your arms like an orangutang). The key to the far more graceful way of climbing is to grip the pole with your ankles and your shins. Gripping with your hands is easy, with your legs – not so much. It makes it easier if you shave your legs though, so one more point for the ladies there. But between my far-from-smooth legs and a tendency not to hold back, my shins have seen better days. Badges of pride, Jenny calls them. So there it is: pole fitness isn’t all glamour and swinging around; it’s a work out for your everything and can wreak havoc on a soft, untrained body – so it’s just like every other workout. Keep that in mind when your thinking about the workout you’re planning on doing to fulfill your New Year’s resolution. Want a tough, full body workout that will sculpt your muscles? Quesnel ratepayers reject town fluoridation “Quesnel voters showed themselves solidly opposed to fluoridation of domestic water in the municipality, when they defeated a plebiscite on the question 392 to 289 in voting last Thursday. It was the only issue at stake on annual election day. Both aldermanic and school board posts had earlier been filled by acclamation. While Quesnel voters were defeating the proposal by a two-to-one vote, residents of Williams Lake were giving an identical plebiscite resounding approval. Fluoridation was supported there by 266 for and only 39 opposed. Mayor Fraser attributed defeat of the plebiscite to apathy on the part of a great percentage of voters, though he added that the ballot Thursday was materially larger than had been expected. The proposal had the backing of Provincial Health Authorities and had been solidly supported by local medical and dental professions.” ”This Column is to highlight our 50th Anniversary

Auditor clears politicians on Basi-Virk bills Tom Fletcher Black Press B.C.'s Auditor General has found no political interference in the government's 2010 decision to forgive $6 million in legal defence costs for former ministerial aides Dave Basi and Bobby Virk. The legal costs decision was announced two days after Basi and Virk pleaded guilty to one count each of breach of trust and accepting benefits, after seven years of investigation into their role in leaking confidential information on bids for the sale of BC Rail assets. The guilty pleas, on the eve of testimony by former cabinet ministers, prompted the audit to examine the decision to waive collection of the legal fees. That was contrary to the existing policy that while the government would cover legal defence costs for its employees, that money would be recovered if employees were found guilty. In a report released Wednesday, acting Auditor General Russ Jones concluded that the plea bargain and fee relief were

proposed to the Legal Services Branch of the Attorney General's ministry by Basi and Virk's defence lawyers. The final decision was made by the former deputy attorney general and deputy minister

of finance, with politicians purposely excluded. "The decision was an economic decision," Jones said. "It was to save money." The government had spent $6 million

to date and would be putting up another $2 million for defence bills if the trial had continued. Combined prosecution and defence costs were costing taxpayers $15,000 for each day of a trial expected to

criminal trials who can't afford their own defence. Fees were paid for convicted serial killer Robert William Pickton and for Jamie Bacon, one of the accused in the current Surrey Six murder case.

The second row seats are a SmartSlide flat-folding 60/40 split bench while the third row is a 60/40 split bench that folds flat as well. New Yorkers got a glimpse of the future this week, as the Volkswagen XL1 arrived in the City as part of a month-long American tour that took in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and the Big Apple. The XL1, which looks like it could have driven off the set of a sci-fi movie, is the most fuel-efficient production car in the world, with a European combined fuel consumption rating of 0,9 L/100 kms and CO2 emissions of 21 g/km. Thanks to its plug-in hybrid system, this two-seater can also cover up to 50 kms as a zero-emissions electric vehicle. The car is powered by a two-cylinder 0.8-litre, TDI engine displaces 0.8 liters, generating 48 horsepower.

Drives-U-Crazy Block Can there be anything much more frustrating than not being able to turn because some twit is blocking the intersection? There is a provincial law that forbids drivers from entering an intersection if they can’t exit the other side (not for left turners, that’s ok). But many municipalities have taken that a step further with bylaws that apply that rule to all intersections, not just those controlled by lights. However, it seems to be largely ignored by people who block the entrance to neighbourhood streets while waiting for a light change ahead. Whether it’s a by law or not surely it’s just common sense and courtesy. What drives-u-crazy. keith.morgan@drivewaybc.ca

Christmas has always been special to me. I don't like it for the presents although some people like presents. I like it for the family time. I always love visiting family. The best Xmas morn All three of us race out of the bedroom so fast. Smiles spread ear to ear on all of our faces as we zoomed into the living room waking up mom and dad. It was Christmas. Stockings were filled with awesome gifts. "So many presents," I thought to myself, looking at the glistening tree and presents. I could tell that my brother and sister, Riley and Jake were thinking the exact same thing. The Santa this year was me. The Santa is one who hands out the presents. So when mom and dad got out of bed, I started to hand out the presents. Each present got better and better each time we opened one. It was also my baby sister Charlie's first Christmas and our present from Santa was a sled. I gave Riley a present from me which was a matching necklace, earrings and a ring. When she opened it, she just sat there starting at it with no expression on her face. I was thinking, "Oh no, she hates her present." Just as I was thinking that, she started to scream and she ran up to me and squeezed me so hard it almost cut off my circulation. It put a smile on my face because she loved her present. A Christmas poem

The tree is draped with decorations, presents scattered along the skid. My grandma's baking wafts through the air, making our stomachs grumble. Outside the snow is falling, The snowman is built, the trees are strung with cranberries and popcorn. That table is set, with a few last twee kings. We gather around the polished table, filling our plates to the brim, surfing our mouths, we hungrily dive into our meal. With full bellies, we turn to our presents, tearing wrapping paper, sending it through the air. My Teddy Bear My sister was only eight years old when I was born. It has been three months later when I got her teddy bear. She has put the teddy bear on a soft warm face of a baby. As time passed I grow older and same with the little teddy bear then I found out about spider man. I couldn’t say spider so I called him Man Man but when I was sad my teddy bear was there for me. I got even older and same did my teddy bear and at that time a lot was going through my life. I had to move and the place where I moved was nice. I lived there for a year or two then I moved again. I lost my teddy bear for a month and then I found him and I hugged him for a long, long time and then. My dog died and I cried and cried and my teddy bear was there for me. Season’s meanings Christmas is about friendship, spending time with your family and being nice to others. Christmas is a special time of the year to have fun with your friends in the snow. Trees are for your presents from Santa Claus. Santa knows if you have been bad, or good. He knows when you are sleeping and when you're awake. Last year I got a giant Toblerone bar in my stocking. Sharing counts as being good. Candy is something nice to share with friends even with people who are not your friends. Singing is something to do on Christmas Eve. Hot chocolate is something yummy and warms you up when you're cold. I believe Santa Claus is real. He is one of the people I like the most of all the holidays on earth. On Christmas, I wake up and look in my stocking to see what's in it. This year there is a Christmas concert at Bouchie Lake School. There is a song I know that is about Christmas. It is called Jingle Bells. It is my favourite Christmas song. My favourite thing about Christmas is that you get presents. You don't know what is in the present. That means it is a surprise. A Xmas gift for Gran "Okay mom," Dad said. "We have all opened our gifts. Now it's time for you to open yours." Grandma looked at dad puzzled. Then he blindfolded grandma and brought in the gift. She took off the blindfold and almost screamed. "Oh, my gosh," grandma said. "It's beautiful." I couldn't believe my eyes. It was the most beautiful gift I ever saw. A beautiful western saddle. It warlike gold. I felt so overwhelmed. It was the perfect gift for her. The reason why it's the perfect gift for her is because my grandma and I ride together. I ride English, she rides western. The saddle had hand-made wooden stirrups and a beautiful seat. The cantle had swirls on it and the skirt had swirly circles on it. Her face lit up like lights. She went up and gave dad a hug and said "thank you for buying it for me." I thought it was cute to see them together. I had a nice warm feeling inside. Then we put the saddle away. As I walked over to the tree, I saw my reflection in a ball. "Christmas is almost over," I said "My favourite time of the year." You may think it's because of the presents; well you're wrong. It's because I get to see my family happy and see so many smiley faces. –PARIS SHELMERDINE Grade 5, Riverview

The Christmas Dream I wondered what was in the bathroom. All I heard was whining. This third bath room had been off-limits, so we only were allowed to use two bathrooms. Could it be a puppy in there? That's nonsense. I already have two dogs," I thought. That morning, before I opened my stocking, I got my brothers Kasey and Kayden. We went to see if Santa ate his cookies and milk. "He came," I said. We ran to my mom and dad's room and jumped up and down and asked to open our stockings. Santa gave us lots of presents. When we finished, my mum said, "Come with me to the bathroom." On the way to the bathroom there was whining again,. My mum opened the door slowly and three little four-legged animals ran past us. Mom said, "get them, One is a girl, Baillie, two are boys Kasey and Kayden. Find them fast." We all ran. "Ow. Something bit me," I said. I stopped. "Puppies," I screamed. "They're puppies." I caught one puppy. I said, "She is a fluff ball." I laughter when she started to nibble on my finger. She was super adorable. –BAILLIE JACKSON Grade 4, Riverview

The giant present "What is all of that barking?" I wondered to myself. A big present, beautifully wrapped was underneath the tree. It said, "To: Jade Love: Daddy." I thought it was a TV for my room, but it was something bigger than that. The bodes had lots of holes and when I

put my ear on that bodes, I could hear scratching on the cardboard. As I was slowly opening it, I came to a complete stop. I screamed and ran up to my dad and gave him a big hug. I had seen a small chocolate brown dog. He licked me on the cheek, I giggled.
