KITIMAT - A budgetary and scheduling review is underway for the Rio Tinto Alcan modernization project in Kitimat. But KMP General Manager Gaby Poirier is thinking that the first quarter in 2015 will see the commissioning and start-up of the rebuilt smelter. Poirier spoke to members of the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce at a lunch meeting on February 26, giving an overall update to the KMP project. In general though the KMP project is 65 per cent complete — that includes procurements and material gathering — while construction specifically is 40

per cent complete. KMP workers currently sits at 2,400 people now with a peak in workforce this coming June. Poirier didn’t specify how many are needed in June but RTA is bringing in a retrofitted ferry to house workers. With a capacity of 500 beds, that will add to the 460 capacity remaining in the existing camp. He said 1,300 of 1,760 beds at the KMP camp are currently full. We asked Manager, Corporate Affairs & Community Relations Colleen Nyce to elaborate on the camp situation and she said the occupancy varies during the week as people go on days off, but they are planning a zero per cent vacancy by the end of

the month. With the arrival of the Delta Spirit they anticipate that to be full as well. As for incentives to keep people in the camps, given the town’s nearly full capacity, she said workers are now not being offered a living allowance to live in the town over the camp. “This was done in the earlier stages of the project when the town’s accommodations were not full to capacity and landlords and the business community preferred us to allow workers to live in town. Since other project proponents have come to the region and also occupying local accommodations, our company has a) discontinued the practice of entering new living out allowance agreements and b) procured the

supply of the Accommodation Vessel in order for us to take care of our own workers,” she wrote in an e-mail. As for the permanent workforce, RTA is still eyeing an approximate 1,000 workforce for the smelter once completed, with up to 800 employees working under the smelter’s union. Poirier said the drop from the existing 1,200 workers to the 1,000 will be a gradual process and that there will be surplus people during the transition. However he said they’re going to use natural attrition to reduce the workforce. So far 95 per cent of the workforce know what their role will be in the new smelter and training is underway for those positions. Funded in part by:

Blazes consumes building that once housed a pub By Martina Perry

PRINCE RUPERT - The Prince Rupert Fire Rescue Department responded to a fire at the old Commercial Pub and Grill on 1st Avenue West shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday evening March 2. As smoke billowed from the building, Prince Rupert RCMP blocked off access to the area while firefighters tried to contain the flames inside by hosing water into a second story window at the back of the building. When the smoke cleared, fire chief Dave Mackenzie said the whole building will need to come down. “The structural integrity has been compromised and it has to come down ... the damage was severe. The whole structural wall between the first and second floor suffered

serious damage. That compromised the roof. We couldn’t put people on it and when we went back [on Monday] with a backhoe to get to some of it, a large portion of the roof collapsed in on itself,” he said. “We had the majority of the fire out in under two hours, but had to keep chasing hotspots for the next three to four hours.” The fire department and RCMP are continuing to investigate the case of the blaze, but Mackenzie said it is suspicious in nature. “Police are, however, looking to speak with several young people who had been seen in the area shortly before first responders were called,” said Const. Matt Ericson. The March 2 blaze comes after a number of unexplained fires occurred at the former pub between June 2012 to March 2013, which were all started outside of the building itself.

TERRACE - Terrace RCMP have issued a warning after a couple was defrauded of more than $2,000 in what is known as the “emergency” or “grandparent” telephone scam. Though the scam and its variants has been around for years, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre warns the public to be on alert after noting a marked increase in the number of complaints in the last two months. In the typical scenario, a grandparent receives a phone call from a con-artist claiming to be one of his or her grandchildren. The caller goes on to say that they are in some kind of trouble and need money immediately. Typically they claim being in a car accident, trouble returning from a foreign country or they need bail money. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says a typical call can go something like this: Con-artist: Hi, Grandma/Grandpa Victim: Hi. Con-artist: Do you know who this is? Victim: John? Con-artist: Yeah. Victims don’t verify the story until after the money has been sent. That’s because the caller asks that they do not want other relatives to know what has happened. The caller then says something along these lines: “Can you please help me? I’m in jail (or in the hospital / or in some type of financial need). But don’t tell Dad. He would kill me if he found out.” “Please send the money ASAP. I’m scared.” The grandparent victim, wanting to help their grandchild, then sends money by a money transfer company such as Money Gram or Western Union. Benjamin Mowitch, 40, won $1 million on Lotto Max Max Millions draw Feb. 28 and was in Kamloops to pick up his cheque from BC Lottery March 5. “I still can’t believe it,” said Mowitch, who says he’s been buying lottery tickets since he was 19. He bought his winning ticket at the New Hazelton Chevron and said he will continue to buy lottery tickets. “I’m going to buy them all the way home,” he said. Mamie Kerby, instrumental in the creation of Heritage Park Museum, passed away Feb. 25.

Mamie Kerby’s legacy will go on cycling to their cabin at the lake. When she got older, she began teaching Sunday school at Knox United Church and was a student music teacher. She also taught school at Old Remo and would walk seven miles there with a packsack and her big dog. In 1942, she married Fred Kerby and they raised five children in Terrace. They wanted all of their children to get some post-secondary education and they did: Dr. Robert Kerby is a metallurgical engineer; Dr. Norma Kerby is a wellknown local biologist; Judy, a public health nurse; Eva is map designer for the regional district; and Eric runs his own business. The acreage on which Mamie and her husband Fred and family lived since the 1950s bordered the top of Lanfear Hill. She continued to live there until she went into Terraceview 10 days before her death. Fred predeceased her in 2006. Mamie and her husband were very outdoorsy people, said Norma. She loved to garden and do crafts and did a lot of volunteer work as a guide leader, at the library and at the church. When she turned 60, she decided the city needed a museum. Her interest in keeping history came from having a very good childhood at a time when the community was close-knit, everyone’s door was open, there was a sense of belonging and of doing things for each other, said Norma. She knew people whose families are now considered part of local history. “She almost felt like it was her obligation,” said Norma. She was one of those people who could identify people in photos and wanted to make sure they were identified accurately, said her daughter. It was important to

her that the artifacts she sourced highlighted how ingenious people’s methods of survival were in the early conditions here. “People made do with what they had,” said Norma. In 1999, the society turned the museum over to the city. In September 2001, Kerby Avenue was named for Mamie and Fred for their contribution to Heritage Park Museum. Kerby will be fondly remembered for her contributions to the Terrace community. “With her positive, inspiring personality she was a tremendous role model in everything she did, for her family and for her community,” said Chantal Meijer, a member of the Terrace Regional Historical Society. “Mrs. Kerby has been very involved in the community and devoted herself to make Terrace the community it is today,” said Terrace mayor Dave Pernarowski. “We hope to honour Mamie Kerby and her legacy by continuing to operate Heritage Park Museum for the people of our city, and to continue collecting artifacts, historical photographs and other materials that document the rich history of this region,” said Grant Piffer, president, Terrace and District Museum Society (operators of Heritage Park Museum) and Kelsey Wiebe, curator of Heritage Park Museum. Before she died, Kerby told her family she was disappointed because she had many more things to do. This is required to avoid safety risks associated with such things as unmarked guy lines, construction materials and other potential hazards along the right-of-way, as well as for public and worker safety as construction activities continue. In particular, over the past year many of the transmission structures for the NTL project have been installed. Most of these structures are supported by currently unmarked guy lines which can be very difficult to see against a snow background. Please avoid using the right-of-way for your activities. TERRACE - Lifelong Terrace resident and founder of Heritage Park Museum, Mamie Kerby, 91, died Feb. 25 after a short illness. She’s known best for being one of the founders of the Terrace Regional Historical Society which was established in 1982 to preserve some of the early history of the area. Those efforts resulted in taking apart, moving, and re-assembling historical log buildings from around the area at the Heritage Park Museum location on the bench. She was on the first board of directors of the museum society and also served as its president. In 1983, Heritage Park Museum opened to the public. It was managed and operated by the society for more than 16 years and then was turned over to the city. Kerby was the volunteer director and manager during that entire time. “That’s what she always did: see a need and [fill it],” said her daughter Norma. “She had the ability to see the bigger things to move the community forward.” Take this example: when Kerby saw the need for a place for Terraceview Lodge residents to be outside with relatives or to hold barbecues and be outside during hot weather, she began to raise money. In what seemed like no time at all, a gazebo was constructed. “She was sincere and people could see that,” said Norma. Mamie Kerby was born and raised here. Her parents were Chris and Eva (Osborne) Haugland and she had three brothers and an older sister. Growing up, until they were teenagers, Kerby spent more time with her brothers. They thought nothing of cycling from town to Thornhill Mountain, hiking up the mountain to the old forestry lookout, hiking back down the mountain and then

PRINCE RUPERT - The Port Edward Harbour Authority is working to alleviate concerns around the lack of mooring space for recreational vessels in Prince Rupert, but an answer may not be easy to come by. Dwayne Nielsen and Kerry Wick of the Port Edward Harbour Authority told city council that docks at Rushbrooke, Fairview and the yacht club are full to capacity, but the group is doing everything it can to accommodate boats making their way along the North Coast. “We are short in this town of space for recreational vessels and we always have been. We have tried to help as best we can ... with transient vessels, with the yacht club being out of space, we do what we can with Rushbrooke, Fairview and Cow Bay to draw those people in so they don’t have to go across the harbour and anchor up. A lot of smaller vessels, 50 feet and under, will go to Rushbrooke even if they have to raft up with commercial vessels if the owners are okay with that. The larger vessels go to Fairview,” said Nielsen, with Wick noting talks are underway to change that. “At this point in Prince Rupert we

don’t have any ability to expand outside of our water lot. That is not to say that won’t happen in the future. Right now we are lobbying with Small Craft Harbours to show them that we are the northern hub here ... most of our fishermen come up here and realize we are at capacity and have to raft. We are talking about it and we are hopeful, but there is nothing set in stone,” she said. Space aside, Coun. Joy Thorkelson took issue with the discrepancy between what is available to those docking in Prince Rupert and those docking in Port Edward. “Port Edward has exceedingly nice floats for a much smaller group of fishermen that tie up there, although there are still a number of vessels that tie up there. They have floats you can drive on to and I wonder why there has been no discussion with the city to see what we can do to provide that same service,” she questioned. Wick said the reason for the superior docks in Port Edward has to do with one dock in the community needing replacement, but also the level of use. “Port Edward, as much as it looks like there is not a lot of fishermen out there, that is where the gillnet fleet goes every year,” she said.

PRINCE RUPERT - Lianna Spence, James Russell, Barb Duncan and Christina Wong presented Sheila Wells, principal of Roosevelt, a cheque for $2,400 for the school’s breakfast program last month at the wrap up of the North West Aboriginal Certificate in Entrepreneurship (NW-ACE) program. The funds were collected through the 3C Challenge, which had students split into groups and given $1,000 which they had to use to create a business concept. Spence, Russell, Duncan and Wong created a calendar, approaching aboriginal businesses to buy advertisements. The project raised a total of $2,900, with the group donating the remaining $500 to the Friendship House to help with its Christmas program for underprivileged aboriginal children. Wells said the money was enough to keep the breakfast program running for the rest of the school year, and part of the next year.

PRINCE RUPERT - Homeowners may end up paying more in taxes this year as the City of Prince Rupert is not planning to adjust its mill rate for the coming budget. “People will notice when they get their tax bill that it has changed, not because the city-

adjusted mill rate but because the BC Assessment Authority either increased or decreased the value of their residence,” explained Prince Rupert Mayor Jack Mussallem. The city is projecting it will receive $7,123,105 from residential property taxes this year, which is $590,575 more than it received in 2013. All together, the city will

collect just under $15 million in taxes, an increase of $1.395 million from the year before. The idea of leaving the mill rate the same was met with concern from some in chambers. “Taxes are going up because most people’s assessments went up ... the bottom line is even by keeping our mill rate where it is, taxes are still going to go up,” said

Chief financial officer Corinne Bomben included the increase in tax revenue as part of a budget that sees increases in many areas for the year ahead following a $2 million surplus in the last fiscal year. tractual wage increases and benefit increases result in an additional costs of $605,000 this year while staffing changes and increases account for $318,000. In the 2014 fiscal year, $30 million is expected to be included in the city’s operating budget to administer city services, which increases to $37 million when the utilities funds are included.

RCMP investigate a fraud attempt Shoplifter had NEW HAZELTON - New Hazelton RCMP responded to 50 calls during the period of Feb. 20-26. February 21- Police are investigating a fraud complaint. The complainant stated he had received a call from a male who said he worked for the RCMP. The caller told the complainant that he owed money on his 2001-2012 tax return and he had to return the call within 30 minutes to avoid being charged. TERRACE - Terrace RCMP say that a three-year old girl was in the company of a female shoplifter arrested at Walmart here recently. The woman, 24, was first arrested by a loss prevention officer at Walmart prior to police being called. Police say the woman was intoxicated and that they asked for the assistance of the children and families ministry in finding sober care for the child. The woman has since been banned from the Walmart location.

KITIMAT - A Kitimat goalie made an impact at a league weekend with some notable plays. The Northland Dodge Northern Female Midget AAA Cougars completed a successful league weekend in Burnaby in January. The 10 game league weekend saw all six teams from the BCFMAAA in action at Burnaby 8 rinks and was hosted by the West Coast Avalanche Team. The Northland Cougars won three games and lost one, taking six of a possible eight points. They gained ground in the standings and are now in second place in the league. On January 10 they beat the Vancouver Island Hurricanes 2-0. The game was largely dominated by the Cougars however they couldn’t find the back of the net until six minute left in the game when Taylor Beck made a terrific forecheck turned into a goal while shorthanded. Madison Fjellstrom added an empty netter late in the game. Kelsey Roberts, of Kitimat, turned in a solid goaltending effort in getting the shutout. Taylor was the obvious choice by the players as team game star. On January 11 the Cougars played the Kootenay Wildcats. Once again the Cougars carried most of the play early but couldn’t score, however Kootenay capitalized on Cougar miscues and a power play and built up a 3-0 lead into the third period.

The Cougars dug deep and responded with 13 minutes left in the game with a 4 goal barrage with the winner coming with 2 minutes left. Tessa Hare and Madison Fjellstrom each scored two goals in the team’s monumental comeback, with Tessa getting the team star. Avery Quiring and Kelsey Roberts shared the solid goaltending duties. Saturday evening the Cougars took on the improving Thompson/Okanagan Rockets. This game had all the makings of a nailbiter however the Cougars opened the scoring in the 1st period and kept them coming, ending in a 4-0 victory. Roberts put in a superb goaltending effort for her second shutout of the weekend. Goal scorers were Hunter Mosher, Lauren SmahaMuir, Tessa Hare and Ava Keis with Lauren getting the team game star award. The last game was played against the forminable Fraser Valley Phantom on January 12. The Phantom recently won the Notre Dame Tournament in Saskatchewan and lost the Mac’s tournament in sudden death in the final game. The Phantom jumped out to an early lead in the first period and added another later in the period. The Cougars halfway through the third period with Ava Keis getting a power play goal. However the Phantom responded and came away with a 3-1 win. Avery Quiring put in a solid effort facing the hard shooting, talented Phantom team.

PRINCE RUPERT - The Charles Hays Senior Boys basketball team are the best in the northwest in 2014 and will be competing in provincials next week. The boys travelled to Smithers last weekend to play Caledonia Secondary and the host Gryphons for the tourney. The Rainmakers opened the title on Friday afternoon with a 67-50 win over host

team. Leading the way was Justin McChesney with 21 points, followed by Rosendo Masocol and Garrett Kobza with 14 points apiece. In their second game, Charles Hays trailed Caledonia by 16 at the half, but stifling defence kept the Terrace team to a single basket on 13 attempts in the fourth quarter enroute to a 55-48 final. Terrace then eliminated Smithers from the competition, meaning another win over Caledonia would clinch the title.

In their second meeting of the tournament, the Rainmakers fell 53-43, setting up a winner-take-all championship game. In that game, the Rainmakers took the banner with a 51-41 victory that saw Masocol net 14 points and Perry Terrell scoring 12. “I think we were very good defensively,” said coach Mel Bishop, who has high hopes for provincials. “If we play hard and play our game, we should be competitive.”

TERRACE - Skeena Middle School’s junior girls’ basketball team finished the 2013/2014 season third out of seven – no small accomplishment for the only team comprised solely of Grade 9’s. The six other northwest zone schools saw both Grade 9’s and Grade 10’s suit up, but Skeena stayed competitive with their 10 dedicated younger players. The team won nine out of 11 games throughout the regular season to head into zone playoffs ranked third. They tipped off against

Smithers Secondary School Feb. 14 in game one of zones in Smithers, with coach Toni Nisyok telling the girls this was the game they needed to win if they wanted to place in the top three. The team didn’t disappoint, winning 25-18 – Brittany Peden was the high scorer with eight points, and coming off the bench Anja Hanington netted five points. Marrick Zips and Emma Kenmuir helped out the win dropping four points each. Shivohn Peters and Jamie Gosnell saw two points each for Skeena. The total team effort saw help from both ends of the court – Briana Greer and

Ashley Nisyok caused many turnovers for Smithers. Next up, Skeena went up against the second ranked team, Charles Hays Secondary, knowing it was going to be a tough game. “Charles Hays had 15 players and we knew they would run us,” said coach Toni Nisyok. “The girls played their best but we just couldn’t hit our shots.” The loss meant they would play for third or fourth place against Houston. The team came out running to win the game 29-14 to take third. “This was a game the girls wanted, and they performed awesome,” she said.

Terrace teams ready for provincials TERRACE - The Terrace Midget Rep Kermodes are on their way to Midget Tier 3 provincials after two decisive wins against Prince Rupert in the best-of-three northwest zone final. Their first game on Saturday, Feb. 22 saw them pull out all of the stops offensively to win 9-1.

And the onslaught didn’t let up later that day – with a 10-2 win at home, they are officially zone champs. They’ll now head to 100 Mile House over spring break to compete against some of the best in the province – and coach Dave Jephson says he is expecting big things from the team.

And the Bantam Midget Rep Kermodes are also heading to Tier 3 provincials in Kelowna after beating Smithers Storm in that bestof-three series. Terrace took game one 9-8, but Smithers forced game three winning 5-4 in OT in game two. Terrace took the final 9-1 to qualify for provincials.

Chris Anderson is a Master Mariner and port planning and operations specialist. He has substantial experience in the assessment and development of many terminal facilities on the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific Coasts of Canada.

Northern Gateway has proposed tanker-related safety measures designed to maintain safe vessel transportation. These measures, together with lower tanker transit speeds in the coastal channels, not only reduce the risk of marine incidents, they also minimize potential adverse effects on the marine mammal environment. ACTING ON EXPERT ADVICE Northern Gateway has consulted with many of the top experts in Canada and the world, including Chris Anderson who, as a Master Mariner and seafarer, has over 50 years of experience including the development of port and terminal facilities in British Columbia’s coastal waters and internationally. Acting on the advice of a team of experts, Northern Gateway committed to a vessel transit speed range from 8 to 12 knots. Anderson says, “Reducing vessel transit speeds through a confined channel to within this range allows improved response from our escort tugs, substantially reducing the risk of a navigational incident, while maintaining safe vessel operation.”

Many other oceangoing vessels can travel at even higher speeds. According to Anderson, “In the event of a mechanical issue, the tethered escort tugs can take over steering and braking which greatly reduces the risk of an incident occurring. This commitment will also help protect British Columbia’s north coast.”

Les Miserables coming to Rupert By Martina Perry THE NORTHERN CONNECTOR

PRINCE RUPERT - Audiences will be taken on a rollicking, emotional tale during Les Misérables, Prince Rupert’s 2014 community musical production. “Les Misérables is a sweeping story of redemption, hope, heartbreak and of love, both lost and found,” said director Michael Gurney. “I suspect it will always be a story that resonates with the heart, the mind and the imagination because it’s a story about people aspiring to something better.” “You need to bring your Kleenex for this production because it is so powerful and emotional that it just draws you right in. It’s got all the elements. Comedy, tragedy and everything else. You will shed a tear,” said Crystal Lorette of the Lester Centre of the Arts which is producing the production. “People can expect an amazing performance from a community that boasts in talent.” Approximately 90 people auditioned for Les Misérables in October after the Lester Centre was given the green light to put on the production. Lorette said she originally looked into putting on the musical a decade ago, but the rights weren’t available for community group performances up until last April. When the music begins on March 27 for opening night, it will be the first time Les Misérables has ever been put on in Prince Rupert. Based on Victor Hugo’s novel, Les Misérables follows the story of Jean Valjean, who will be played by Andy Enns. The musical begins with Jean being released from prison after serving 19 years behind bars for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister and her child. Jean is out on parole and has become a hardened individual, but an act of generosity transforms his view of the world. He rips up his yellow ticket and begins to change his ways. “As this transformed man, he begins to live life generously. He adopts a young girl when her mother dies, and becomes a man of importance and leadership in the community,” explained Gurney. A decade after turning his life around, a rebellion threatens to sweep through the streets of Paris lead by students who are tired of the old guard and the rich running the French government.

Sunday’s practice was the first with the orchestra. “Valjean and his daughter are pulled into those events, and he ends up playing an important role in the student’s rebellion. We meet a number of the students as well, who can foresee a glorious and utopian end to the cause of over throwing the somewhat despotic French government at that point,” said Gurney. “In the end, some dreams are realized, others are broken. In the end, each character goes through a transformation and has an opportunity to experience grace.” As the production’s lead, Enns said he hopes to capture the dynamic role of Jean Valjean through the two decades the musical spans by drawing from his own personal experiences. “He changes so much in his life, from being a convict to a father figure, all of this happening on the eve of French revolution. It’s a challenging role ... I hope I can show him as someone who is maturing and growing as a human being through times where he has to adapt and change,” he said. Enns will be joined by 60 cast members performing in 117 roles, spanning from young to mature actors with and without previous experience. Gurney said it’s a privilege to both direct Les Misérables and work alongside the many Rupertites who are experienced with musicals. “I’ve been trying to bring not just my own vision, but a unique Prince Rupert vision to the musical ... I really appreciate the way the cast has been willing to col-

laborate on the staging and the direction of this production,” said Gurney. Enns said there are a few reasons people should attend Les Misérables: The first being to see an interesting account of French history in the early 1800s, to see friends, family or familiar faces perform and finally because of the outstanding music. “I’m really impressed with how Les Misérables is going to sound. I would recommend seeing it to anybody, even if they didn’t think they were a musicalkind of person,” said Enns. Lorette says Les Misérables’ musical numbers are difficult, but the 16 orchestra members lead by musical director Peter Witherly have been doing an outstanding job, along with the production’s choreographer Jewel Jerstad who is ensuring the music is presented attractively with dance. “It’s an interesting thing at the end of the musical, after we’ve had our hearts touched and our laughter elicited, we realize this is what human life is made up of: Tragedy and comedy, grace and forgiveness, and sin, all mixed together. I suspect by the end of the evening, the audience would have had a taste of life in miniature. The rich tapestry of what it means to be a human being compressed into three hours of glorious music,” said Gurney. Performances of Les Misérables will take place at the Lester Centre of the Arts on March 2729. Tickets are available at the Lester Centre and Cook’s Jewellers.

Joan Therese Lawrence

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joan Therese Lawrence (nee Turner) on December 28, 2013, in Miramichi, N.B. Born in Tamworth, NSW, Australia, she trained as a registered nurse in Sydney, and enjoyed working for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, providing maternity care to remote communities in rural Australia. At the age of 25 she left Australia to work in hospitals in Germany, USA and Canada, eventually settling in northern British Columbia to raise her children. She worked as the Director of Nursing at Kitimat General Hospital from 1978-1988, Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace and community nurse for Alcan’s Kemano Completion Project until 2000. Upon retiring, Joan moved to Miramichi, N.B. where she continued to volunteer tirelessly. Causes close to her heart included Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Miramichi Regional Hospital, Hospice Miramichi, Lion’s Club, and adult literacy. Joan’s passions were helping her community and countless friends, dancing, crossword puzzles, volunteering and animal welfare. Joan is survived by her children Aidan (Efe), Regan (Haim), and grandchildren Maeve and Arlo. Fondly remembered by dear friends in BC, NB, Australia and across the globe. Joan is remembered by many for her independent and adventurous spirit, her no-nonsense approach to living, her great generosity in all its forms, her ever-ready humour, and her deep love of life and laughter. Mary was born in Ashern, Manitoba, and came to Kitimat in May of 1956. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She was caring, loving and a friend to all. Mary was known for her perogies, endless phone calls and her great sense of humour. A celebration of Mary’s life was held March 1 at the Rod and Gun Club in Kitimat.
