Warrant out for Beaudry The Creston violent offender failed to check in after his release CRESTON VALLEY ADVANCE

A countrywide warrant has been issued for the arrest of high-risk offender Jason Beaudry after he was supposed to check in with his parole officer on Monday but didn’t. He had previously violated conditions of his parole on Saturday. “Unfortunately, his probation order wasn’t on the system, so we didn’t lay charges until this week,” said Creston RCMP Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan this morning.

It is believed that Beaudry has not yet returned to the Creston Valley, although he intended to, and is currently in the Kelowna area. The Ministry of Justice’s Corrections Branch notified the RCMP on Friday that Beaudry, who is described as aboriginal, five feet, 11 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds, intended to return to his Creston residence.

Canada’s most renowned medical journalist — and a maverick in his own right — is coming to Canada with a revolutionary message. Dr. W. Gifford-Jones, whose newspaper column “The Doctor Game” has appeared in newspapers across the country, including the Daily Townsman, will be speaking about cardiovascular health at his March 25 appearance at the Prestige, and how certain natural substances — in particular Vitamin C and Lysine — go a long way to not only preventing the hardening of our arteries as we

age, but actually reversing that condition — atherosclerosis. What makes this idea revolutionary, Gifford-Jones says, is not only its simplicity, but the unwillingness of the “medical establishment” to accept it as therapy. “I’ve never been in Cranbrook, so I’m looking forward to talking to people there,” Gifford-Jones told the Townsman before setting out on his tour, which is following on the release of his latest book, “What I Learned As A Medical Journalist” (a collection of columns).

Heads: you get a worse recycling program. Tails: you get to pay more for it.

The BC Government is proposing to offload the province’s world-class recycling programs, run by local municipalities, to an association led by big multi-national corporations. The idea is that we’ll get a better, more efficient program that costs taxpayers less. Unfortunately, what we’ll really end up with is anyone’s guess. The association isn’t guaranteeing that we’ll get a better program, or even one as good as the current Blue Box program already in place. Since the association is led by big businesses outside of BC, many of whom are not even headquartered in Canada, one could presume that profits will come before environmental stewardship. They usually do. They also won’t guarantee that there won’t be any job cuts here in BC. And how is this supposed to make things better for BC?

Currently, BC homeowners only pay, on average, $35 a year for curbside recycling. Under the proposed regime, you’ll pay more. Every time you bring home a pizza, buy toilet paper, or pretty much anything else that comes in a package, businesses will be passing their increased costs on to you. How much more? Well, nobody’s saying. Here’s the only thing anyone does know: we already have a Blue Box program that works, is efficient, managed locally and puts the BC environment first. So why is the BC government flipping a coin, bringing in a questionable recycling program that some of our local elected officials are already calling a “scam?” It’s time to contact Premier Clark and ask her.

An Alaska writer of mountain stories will visit Cranbrook on Saturday, March 22. David Stevenson will give a reading of his collection of short stories, “Letters From Chamonix”, at Lotus Books in Cranbrook at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 22. Originally from Michigan but now living in Anchorage, Stevenson is the director of the fine arts program in creative writing at the University of Alaska. Stevenson also has a nod for a Canadian legend. “Like everyone else in the world, I love Alice Munro, who is often published in the New Yorker throughout the years and has finally garnered all the acclaim she deserves,” he said. Stevenson said that teaching young writers at the University of Alaska helps keep him on track. “When you teach young writers, they keep you on your game, otherwise you feel like a fraud. You have to earn that respect. And that is inspiring,” he said. “When I wrote the acknowledgements for this book, I found myself thanking many former students because you want to be that person that you pretended to be in front of the class.” You can meet David Stevenson at Lotus Books in Cranbrook on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Feral pigs can be found in the Kootenays – and now hunters can legally harvest the invasive animals. The B.C. Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations announced the move on Thursday, March 20. The new regulatory amendment designates feral pigs as “Schedule C” wildlife, making it legal for someone with a valid hunting license to harvest them. Escaped swine have been reported in the Kootenays, as well as other parts of B.C. including the Lower Mainland, Kamloops, the Okanagan and the Peace regions. “While there are not many feral pigs in British Columbia, this is a proactive measure since

once established feral pigs are extremely hard to eradicate,” reads the government press release. Feral pigs are described as invasive animals that have escaped farm environments and established themselves in the wild. “Feral pigs can cause significant damage to local ecosystems by competing with local wildlife for forage, damaging crops, uprooting native vegetation and eating the eggs of ground nesting birds,” the statement says. “They can also be the source of infectious diseases and parasites which can be harmful to wildlife, livestock and human health.” But only licensed hunters should take aim, the release continues. “Feral pigs can be ag-

gressive, and may pose a threat to the public or a hunter if they are wounded. Accordingly, the regulation requires anyone harvesting a feral pig to possess a valid hunting licence, to ensure only trained and certified hunters harvest feral pigs.” The Ministry hopes that this move will cut down the population of feral pigs. “Designating feral pigs as Schedule C under the Wildlife Act’s Designation and Exemption Regulation will assist in reducing their numbers.” Also on Thursday, the Ministry announced that European wall lizards and non-native turtles can be trapped and killed in B.C. without obtaining a permit, as these animals are also now considered invasive species.

Gifford-Jones touts power of Vitamin C Continued from page 1 “I’ll be talking about cardiovascular disease, and, basically, that we can not only prevent it, but we can reverse it once it starts. “Which is really a revolutionary, monumental idea.” The basis of this revolutionary idea is simple Vitamin C. Research conducted by Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling (1901-1994) showed that Vitamin C is required to manufacture healthy collagen, the glue that holds coronary cells together, just like mortar is needed for bricks. When Vitamin C is combined with the amino acid Lysine (which like steel rods in concrete, makes collagen stronger), the result is a reversing affect on atherosclerosis. “Atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, is really the rust we develop in our arteries as we age. The more we get, the greater the risk of heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular problems.” Gifford-Jones went on to say how an English optometrist, Sydney Bush, later provided photographic evidence of the so-called “Pauling Therapy.” “Dr. Bush carried out an interesting experiment with his optometry patients who were getting infections under

their contact lenses, and out of the blue decided to see if the infections could be decreased with (daily dosages of) 5,000 milligrams of Vitamin C,” Gifford-Jones said. “He found that it worked. But he also did one important thing, which was to take before and after pictures of the back part of the eye — the retina — which is the only part of the body where you can see arteries and veins. Not only did he find that they weren’t getting any infections, but there was reversal of the atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries. Since the head is connected to the body, what’s going on in the retinal eye arteries is also going on in the coronary arteries, and the arteries throughout the body. “And we have 60,000 of them.” Gifford-Jones described these before-and-after photos of people who have been treated with Vitamin C. “There’s just a dramatic difference,” he said. “The arteries are wider, there’s greater flow to the retina and other parts of the body, they just look a lot healthier. You don’t have to be a doctor to see what’s going on.” But, as both Linus Pauling and Sydney Bush have found, Gif-

ford-Jones has seen this evidence of Vitamin C’s ability to reverse hardening of the arteries met with a wall of silence and indifference — almost suppression — from the medical establishment. For which, he says, there are several reasons. “Most things that are too good to be true are too good to be true,” Gifford-Jones said. “But in this case, it really is true. Unlike many things, where we’re talking about theory, in this case we can see it with our own eyes. “We’ve been criticized by the medical establishment that we haven’t done double blind studies — etc, etc — but nobody’s going to pay for them. You can’t patent Vitamin C and lysine. “The other problem is that we have a situation where ‘Marketing 101’ is awful hard to beat.” Throughout his career as medical journalist, Gifford-Jones has been critical of the hold pharmaceutical companies have on the medical industry. The suppression of the Pauling Therapy is another example of this, he says. “I’ve been saying for years that we’ve developed a society where we all have ‘pill-itis.’ We’re in a state in North Amer-

And if you start criticizing it, it’s like criticizing motherhood and apple pie.” Gifford-Jones saw further evidence of a studied lack of interest in the Pauling Therapy while writing about it for the Globe and Mail newspaper, and got no

feedback at all — not one comment from anyone in the “medical establishment” about his columns on the powerful positive affects of Vitamin C. “In other words, the medical establishment isn’t listening,” he said. “The interesting thing is, the consumers are listening. “They’ve really invented a new disease — cholestero-phobia,” Gifford-Jones continued. “You think the consumer would be the last person to come around to thinking that this might not be a bad idea — you would think the doctors would be the first to take a look at the photos, notice the dramatic difference, and say ‘something’s going on.’ And yet it’s not happening. “It’s interesting for me, because normally when I’ve talked about controversial issues in the past — euthanasia or abortion — I usually get criticized like hell by my colleagues. It isn’t happening this time. There is silence. Believe me, I’ve analyzed this situation for hours and hours, because the last thing I want to do is give out information that isn’t correct. But I can’t find any flaws in my argument, and I don’t think they can either.” Gifford-Jones mused that one reason there may not be the negative feedback to the idea of Vitamin C’s ability to stop and reverse atherosclerosis is because it originated with Linus Pauling, considered (according to Wikipedia) one of the most influential chemists in history and among the most important scientists of the 20th century — a two-time winner of the Nobel Prize. Gifford-Jones said he interviewed Pauling about 25 years ago. “A wonderful man, a real gentleman — and he told me that the one thing that was different between animals and man was that animals all make Vitamin C, with

Dr. W. Gifford-Jones the exception of the guinea pig. We don’t; we lost that ability eons and eons ago. “If you own a dog, your dog more than likely is producing 5,000 milligrams a day, on its own. If your dog became injured, or developed an infection, your dog is going to produce 50,000 or 100,000 milligrams a day. There’s a biological mechanism that sets in, that says, ‘I’m ill, I have to up my intake of Vitamin C.’ That’s the message to humans also. If I feel a cold coming on, I take a thousand milligrams of Vitamin C every couple of hours. I very rarely get a cold.” The simplest thing for humans to do, of course, would be to up one’s Vitamin C intake in one’s diet, but as Gifford-Jones said, “there are only so many oranges you can eat. “You have to use supplements, available at any health food store. You only need 10 milligrams of Vitamin C to prevent scurvy — one sixth of an orange. But you need thousands of milligrams to prevent heart attack.”

Gifford-Jones added that most people don’t realize that Vitamin C, in high intravenous doses, not oral doses, “can literally wipe out some viral diseases — not to mention counteract the effects of snakebite. “Say you’re up in the Okanagan Valley, and you’re bitten by a rattlesnake,” he said, “and you have someone with you who could give you 100,000 milligrams of Vitamin C intravenously, it would counteract the poison.” Dr. W. Gifford-Jones’ visit to Cranbrook bodes to be one of the more interesting public medical discussions we’ve had here in a while. “I’ve had a reputation for writing about controversial issues, so the medical establishment doesn’t really like me,” he said. “So I’ll never be elected into the medical hall of fame.” W. Gifford-Jones will be in Cranbrook on Tuesday, March 25 to give a free public lecture that evening at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort. The lecture is at 7 p.m. and no pre-registration is required.

A recipe for happy family meals

et’s face it. Eating with young children can be stressful, especially at dinner time. Even though I know the spilling, throwing food, picky eating, and crankiness are all normal they are hard to face each evening. Knowing the many benefits that eating together offers my toddler - from learning more vocabulary to accepting new foods– gives me the push to continue making family dinners a priority in my home. None-the-less, I recently asked myself how we can make our family mealtimes a happier time. And what a better time to be asking then during Nutrition Month. This year’s theme is Simply Cook and Enjoy. You may be wondering is the ‘enjoy’ part even possible when eating with young children? The answer is YES. Over the past month I began carefully practicing what I preach. The following tips really are key. Ensure the focus for eating together is simply to enjoy each other’s company. So much stress is lifted when I let go of being concerned about how much or what my son will eat. Plan for early dinners. On work nights if dinner is running late I find it helpful to offer my son a light pre-dinner snack to prevent him from becoming over-hungry. Offer new foods along with familiar, loved foods. By doing this it helps my son feel comfortable at meal times. Don’t let food refusal get under your skin.

versation. We keep the conversation light and involve our toddler. Interestingly, by doing this it has helped decrease the amount of food that is thrown! Keep distractions at a minimum. At mealtimes we turn off the TV, cell phones, ipads, and put away toys (or hide them out of site, if needed). Expect a mess. We keep cloths handy to catch large spills and wait until the meal is over to pick up food that has been dropped on the floor. Creating happy meal times is worth the effort. This is a change that is much appreciated by the people of Cranbrook and is probably due to the efforts of Mr Bostock, who promised when he visited here recently to secure this improvement as soon as he could after his return to Ottawa. First Birth … Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Elmer can now lay claim to being the parents of the first child born in Moyie. A fat and plump nine pound, black haired girl baby arrived at their home in the Lake Shore addition last Monday morning about four o’clock. Mother and child are doing nicely. 1900 Wearing Of The Green … St. Patrick’s day was duly observed in Cranbrook. The “wearing of the green” was a leading feature, and to look at the green ties and ribbons one was naturally impressed with the idea that the Irish had captured the

town. There was no celebrating during the day, but the evening was observed by a most excellent, concert given by the choir of St. Mary’s Church at Forrest hall. Charged … J. J. Judd, well known here as an eccentric brakeman, and who has been living in Kimberley the past winter, was taken to Nelson this week on the charge of larceny. Break In … Choo Kee, one of the Chinese laundrymen, had his chest broken open a week ago Saturday in his place of business and gold dust and jewellery taken to the value of $150. The robber got $100 in gold dust, a gold bracelet, two rings and the lease for his lot. 1901 Small Pox Scare Over ... Last Monday Dennis Shea the smallpox patient, who has been quarantined in Dr. Green’s office, was set at liberty accordingly Moyie is once more open to the public, and but for a few sore arms, would not know that such a disease as smallpox existed. the ear that hears me. “I arise today through the mighty strength of the Lord of creation.” It is a strong prayer. God permeates everything as the life–giving energy of creation. But, rather than being impersonal or indifferent to the affairs of mortals, the Energy of the Universe is personal and protective, as close as our next step or the air we breathe. Whether or not we are aware of it, we are always encircled by God’s love, which is larger than our own lives and planetary journeys. Today, in a time when everything seems to be in flux, we need the wisdom of St. Patrick. All the old certainties are disappearing. We are being tossed about in the seas of uncertainty. The world’s religious traditions are in flux and the spiritual landscape in North America is shifting. Some people predict the end of the world or life as we know it through comets coming close to the earth, shifting tectonic plates, or the reversal of the earth’s axis. Others anticipate a catastrophic second coming of Jesus. We are anxious about the future of our planet as we consider the reality of global climate change and humankind’s feeble responses. We need courage, inspiration, and perseverance. We can surround ourselves in a moving circle that joins adventure and safety; a circle that spirals outward to embrace the ever–changing world. The wisdom and strength of St. Patrick can help us draw such a sacred circle around ourselves, reminding us that God is our companion in all of life. few words o’ the Irish? Begosh and Begorrah, is it not too late, what with St. Paddy’s Day happening these four days past? Not at all at all, for it is many days hence to July 12, and the glorious anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne, a popular celebration among certain locals in the early days of our city, if you were Protestant, that is. It should be kept in mind, for those who keep such things, that St. Patrick was-and still is, for that matter-a Catholic Saint and therefore March 17 is generally considered to be a Papist celebration. Thus the Catholic “St. Patrick’s Day” celebrated with green and “The Glorious Twelfth” celebrated with orange, represent the two colourful sides of the religious coin that is Ireland. The Orange Institution, commonly known as the Loyal Orange Lodge and other such titles, was founded in 1796 in Ireland, reaching Canadian shores in a formal way in 1830, and has continued in varying degrees ever since. Although St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated in Cranbrook from the earliest days, it was not until July 12, 1904, that a group of like-minded individuals met at the Wilga Boarding House on 9th Ave. to enjoy the first ever Cranbrook banquet in honour of the Battle of the Boyne. The Wilga, originally the first residence of lumber mill owner M.B. King, is easily explained as a likely choice for the event: the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Hoadley, were good cooks, which is important when celebrating a 324-year-old conflict. The battle itself took place at the River Boyne, Ireland, about 30 miles from Dublin. It was an attempt by the former Catholic King James II of England and Ireland and VII of Scotland to regain his thrown from his son-in-law and nephew, Protestant King William III of Orange. The actual date of the conflict is given as July 1 in the Julian (Old Style) calendar which translated to either July 11 or July 12, in the Gregorian (New Style) calendar initiated in 1582. The present day Gregorian calendar was a Catholic initiative which the Protestants only grudgingly adopted over the next 100 years or so, with the exception of the Russians who waited until 1918, and nowadays the date of the actual Battle of Boyne is generally accepted as July 11. Some say that King William III rises upon his white stallion on the site of the Wilga Boarding House once a year; the very spot where the Orangemen held their first banquet on the night of July 12, 1904. On the other hand, some say he doesn’t. cidentally fought the following year on July 12, by the same armies minus King James who had skedaddled to France to live out his life with his cousin King Louis XIV. Both battles were rather handily won by King William’s forces, thereby ensuring that the monarchy would remain in Protestant control from then on. JANUS: Even though many Cranbrook dates were simply shifted Then & Now from one calendar to another, the Orangemen reJim fused to celebrate the BatCameron tle of the Boyne on any date other than July 12. Locally the “big day” remained pretty small at first. Cranbrook Loyal Orange Lodge #1871 was officially sanctioned in Jan. 1905, with upwards of 40 members. Although the group would generally gather twice monthly at their meeting hall (borrowed from the Odd Fellows, various CPR Brotherhoods, the Labor Union and the Carmen of America until finally settling into the Royal Black Knights of Ireland Hall over the Cranbrook Cigar Store and Pool Hall on Baker Street in 1914) and perhaps undertook other activities, the only apparent public display over the next few years came on the evening of July 12. On the date in question the “brothers” would gather at their lodge to parade in their regalia along the downtown streets, generally stopping in either the Methodist or Baptist Church for a special sermon and then returning to their starting point from whence they would disburse at some later point in the evening (sometimes a much

Orange Lodge notice. Herald, April 23, 1914. later point in the evening). In 1908, the Cranbrook chapter travelled to Fernie to celebrate with the Lodge there. The Fernie group held a grand parade in the morning led by a chosen member riding a white horse representing King William. The afternoon and evening were given to athletic activities and general socializing. It had its effect on the Cranbrook group and often, in years following, the Cranbrook parade was headed by the local Worshipful Master astride a white steed amidst the skirl of bagpipes (the group was not restricted to those of Irish descent) and, frequently with the addition of members from surrounding towns (there were some 60 chapters in B.C. at the time), the affair took on a rather grand caste and attracted quite an audience. The advent of World War One seems to have laid the local Loyal Order low although it went through a rebirth of sorts in the 1920s, carrying on into the early 1930s when it appears to have simply faded away.

the past three weeks, and is now out of critical condition, as per an update from the WHL on Wednesday. Without alluding specifically to Bozon’s situation, Ice head coach Ryan McGill noted that the team struggled with some adversity towards the end of the season. “Obviously, we’ve gone through some things, we reflect on that every day, but at the same time, we know how important it is to move forward and I think the guys have done that this week,” McGill said. Though it will be a long road to recovery for Bozon, his teammates in the dressing room are rallying around each other to play—and win—for him. “It’s a tough thing to go through,” said Ice captain Sam Reinhart. “At the end of the day, we’re all aware of how hard he’s battling right now every minute of every day to get stronger and recover. “It’s definitely motivating, in it’s own weight, to see him go through that and it’s definitely nice for us to rally around that and use it for motivation.” Bozon has scored 30 goals and tallied 32 assists since arriving in Cranbrook with the Ice in October via a trade with the Kamloops Blazers.

The Kootenay Ice big guns came out on Thursday night in Calgary. Sam Reinhart and Zach Franko both scored twice, while Luke Philp added a goal as the Ice steamrolled the Hitmen 5-2 in Game One of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal. Though the Hitmen scored the first goal,

Despite the lategame shenanigans, McGill is happy with how his team responded to the aggression. “Our discipline was excellent, it’s been excellent all year, and I think our guys did a helluva job in the last 10 minutes of the game,” McGill said. Skapski slammed the door shut for most of the game after that, making 27 saves for his second playoff win. Calgary’s penalty trouble didn’t do any favours, and Sam Reinhart wired a shot into the top corner at the side of the net on the powerplay to even it up just over the halfway mark. Kootenay struck again with the man-advantage in the second period, as Luke Philp snapped home a shot from inside the blueline while quarterbacking the powerplay. After splitting the defence, Jaedon Descheneneau went in all alone on Hitmen goaltender Chris Driedger, but was hooked on the play. The referee awarded a penalty shot, but Driedger was able to kick out a pad to make the stop on a forehand attempt from the Kootenay sniper.

SAINT JOHN, N.B. Canada’s Rachel Homan had ideal preparation for the playoffs at the Ford World Curling Championships with a pair of hard-fought wins over tenacious opponents Thursday. The Canadians defeated Sweden 9-6 and China 6-4 to finish atop the preliminary-round standings at 10-1. Their execution Thursday was the sharpest of the tournament so far. The games were tight with Homan and her Ottawa Curling Club teammates scoring three in the eighth ends of both. “We were really pushed today,” Homan said. “It was great we were able to control the game and stay confident with this team and really nail the lines and make the big shots when we needed them. “We had to fight for our points.” Homan will face Switzerland’s Binia

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms with return specialist Devin Hester. The team announced the deal Thursday. The 31-year-old Hester is a three-time Pro-Bowler who last year tied an NFL record with his 19th scoring return in eight seasons with the Chicago Bears. Coming off a dismal 4-12 season, the Falcons are hoping he can bolster a unit that ranked 28th in the league in kickoff return yards and 21st in punt return yards. Hester has scored on 13 punt returns, five kickoff returns and off a missed field goal. In 2013, he led the NFL in kickoff return yards (1,436) and total return yards (1,692). In addition, Hester has 217 receptions for 2,807 yards and 14 touchdowns in his career.

ANNIE’S MAILBOX by Kathy Mitchell and Marcy Sugar Dear Annie: I’m 52 years old, and since my wife started menopause, we no longer have sex. It has become physically painful for her, and she has no desire whatsoever. I understand what is happening and am trying to be supportive and roll with the punches. But it’s difficult. I could get along without intercourse if we just had some kind of sexual intimacy. I know she loves me, and I love her, but the thought that I may never have sex of any kind again is difficult. I have told her that just getting naked and doing some heavy petting like teens would be more than enough. She never initiates anything, and I’m embarrassed to keep asking, because I don’t want to put pressure on her and make her feel bad when she says no. I would never cheat on her. This morning I sat down and cried. It makes me so sad. My wife is not interested in counseling. She has no desire for sex, so why fix it? I take care of my appearance and treat my wife with love and respect. So how can I get off this one-way street? I feel like I should simply man up and come to terms with it, but I have been unable to do so. Help. -- Saddened Dear Saddened: We wish we could knock some sense into women like your wife. In a healthy, loving marriage, one takes their partner’s feelings and needs into consideration. There are medical treatments for painful intercourse and diminished libido, but your wife has to make the effort. And there are other forms of intimacy, as you have so clearly stated. Yes, there are more important things than sex, but a spouse’s longing for intimate contact should not be dismissed as inconsequential. Dear Annie: I’m a 55-year-old home health nurse, one of six who have been caring for a disabled man in his mid-30s who is a quadriplegic. This man’s mother is overbearing. We planned a little party for the nurses and our patient, and his mother showed up uninvited. When I offered the young man some of my soda, she told him not to “take food without permission.” I responded that he had my permission. A little while later, Mom picked up her son’s spoon and tasted his soup. I teased her about it, and she responded rudely. She told me to stop talking and not to speak to her that way. It was demeaning. I realize she has had a hard life, but that doesn’t mean she can treat me this way. She’s self-centered and controlling. She has fired plenty of nurses in the past for “transgressions” that had nothing to do with the care of her son. We’ve given each other the silent treatment since. But I’m concerned that my patient feels the stress and that it will give his mother an excuse to fire me. Does she owe me an apology, or do I owe her one? -- California Nurse Dear Nurse: You are the employee. If you want to keep your job and create a less stressful environment, please tell the mother that you are sorry you upset her, because that was not your intent. Ask if you can wipe the slate clean. Be sincere. And then remember in the future that this woman needs to be treated with more formality. Don’t try to be friendly. Simply be professional. Dear Annie: This is another answer to “Losing My Religion,” the husband whose wife is always late. My wife was the same way. It took me 30 years to figure out that the problem wasn’t organizational skills, but a power play. Nobody could go anywhere until my wife said so. Rosa DeRita was surrounded by her family as she passed away peacefully on March 18, 2014, at the age of 83. Rosa was born on April 18, 1930 in Petruro, Italy. She moved to Cranbrook B.C. with her family in 1962. She enjoyed all the good things in life. She was always cooking, spending many hours in her garden, playing bocce on Sundayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s at Jim Smith Lake and spending time with her family and many friends. She will be forever missed by all of us. Rosa is predeceased by her husband John DeRita. She is survived by her sons, Sabato (Barb) DeRita, Mario (Gwen) DeRita, Jim (Kathy) Derita, Frank (Erin) DeRita, all of Cranbrook and her daughter Filomena (Nuccio) Spitale of Vancouver BC; brothers Francesco (Luisa) DeLauro , Angelo (Maria) DeLauro, all of Italy, and sister Maria (John) DeAngelis of Cranbrook; grandchildren Jalaine (Dale) Lewko and Tracey DeRita of Calgary AB, Maria (Andy) Leisk, Julia and Joey Spitale of Vancouver BC, Lucas and Aiden DeRita, Breanna DeRita, Darnell (Lauren) Rousson, Mitchell, Russell and Xander Rousson, all of Cranbrook, as well as many well as many nieces and nephews in Cranbrook and Italy.
