Challenges include baking muffins for dogs and talking up the benefits of natural pet food products to strangers. When first contacted by the show’s producers last June, Pinch didn’t know they were asking her to be on a reality show. She thought she was being asked to take part in a documentary about small business. “I didn’t know anything until I got there for the first day.”
She underwent an interview process, but the producers were keeping mum about the name of the actual show. Pinch only realized something was up when a car pulled up that Monday morning in Kelowna. “Oh my god, there’s a camera right there,” she thought. “It was like being on The Bachelor.” Pinch quickly put two and two together. “I’d happened to see the show,” she explains. The first challenge was working as a team with her Kelowna competitor, running a store,

dealing with stock, and then giving a presentation before a test audience – literally heading out to the parking lot and roping in strangers, asking them to be on TV, a challenge that turned out to be easier than it might sound. “It’s really easy to gather people when you have a TV camera.” The contest didn’t merely require Pinch, 40, to outperform her competition - she also had to contend with working in front of
an audience when things didn’t go as planned. It was while demonstrating the inner workings of a dog’s digestive system using an eight-foottall test tube when things went awry. She ended up covered in slime from head to toe. “All I could say is, ‘So much for those new shoes.’” The days were long. Production ranged from four to 10 or 12 hours a day, for a week, but it was worth it. “It was the best life experience
I’ve ever had,” she said. “It was awesome.” No one’s saying who won, but company CEO Lee Drescher was impressed with both women. “Not only did they have to complete difficult challenges but they also had the added element of working with four-legged friends who sometimes don’t cooperate.” Pinch hasn’t seen the final cut of her debut; the first time will be when the episode airs at 8 p.m. next Thursday. A friend is hosting a viewing party.

twice a year at most,” says Stewart. “They’ve never been here before.” He’s tried to arrange for the team to come to the Cloverdale Rodeo for the past four years. president. “I did a song and dance to the owner of Express. I kept on bugging him,” he said. It must have been some performance, because Stewart got the good news in November that the team would be coming to Cloverdale for the first time. “It was a pipe dream. We never thought we’d be able to get them here.” The team’s on the road more than 200 days a year, performing across North America, pulling a replica stagecoach or show delivery wagon and raising money for charities. They were crowned world champions in sixhorse hitch at the 2013 Calgary Stampede, and claimed the 2012 world championship title for horse hitch, and best cart, at the World Clydesdale Show in Milwaukee. Astute royal watchers may remember the Clydesdales as equine escorts to Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge at the 2011 Calgary Stampede. The Clydesdales will perform at all five rodeo performances and there‘ll be ample opportunity to meet them outside of the Stetson Bowl. “The plan is to have a tent, where people can see them on the grounds,
so people will be able to come up and get pictures taken with them.” The Clydesdales will also visit the Cloverdale Chili Cook-off and take part in the Cloverdale Rodeo Parade.
Six to go
With six weeks to go, the countdown to the 2014 Cloverdale Rodeo has begun. It runs May 16 to 19 at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, and includes the invitational rodeo, along with the 126th annual country fair, offering family-friendly entertainment, from the midway to the West Coast Lumberjack Show. The Cloverdale Cowboy Cook-off Rib Fest and BBQ Competition is back, as is the World Freestyle Round-up, featuring the world’s best freestyle skateboarders. The Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Association will present its new annual scholarship program, open to past and present student volunteers who are in their graduation year. Tickets are $12 for grounds admission (children 12 and under are free) and $20 for rodeo performances – also free for children 12 and under.

Home help sought First-time home buyers in Metro Vancouver expect to spend $506,500 on average and many anticipate financial help from parents or relatives, according to a Bank of Montreal survey. It found 40 per cent of Metro Vancouver respondents expect to lean on the “bank of Mom and Dad” to crack the high-priced market here, compared to 30 per cent in the rest of Canada. The average expected firsttime home cost nation-wide was $316,100 and $430,300 in B.C. as a whole. At least 60 per cent of the expected new home buyers surveyed earlier this year said they’d made lifestyle cutbacks to save for their down payment. A majority also said their home-buying timeline has been delayed, with many of them reporting that’s because of rising real estate prices.

Inspector BCLN#64344 But remember, vinyl sidings are installed and designed to shed rain, from the top down, not water of extreme pressure which may be forced from below or the side. Excessive water pressure may cause siding damage, discoloration, nails or staple holding the siding might rust and drip down the siding, and in extreme cases might cause structural decay, promote mold (from behind) or electrical damage over time. Best bet is to use a soft brittle brush to scrub using household bleach and water solution or using store bought cleaning solutions and tools and rinse off with a garden hose. Be safe!
There are MANY benefits to supplementing with a good quality Omega oil. Some of the benefits of omega-3 in dogs include better joint health, kidney function support, skin and coat improvement, epilepsy support, heart health and mood and behavior balance. Salmon oil may not be the answer…there are oils that are made from less toxic sources like anchovy and sardines. These are fast moving fish that actually absorb less toxins from the ocean. If your pet has a fish allergy, there are other options such as Flax or Coconut oil which have their own benefits as well. Rotating through the different oil options is a great way to balance out what your pet is getting and to make sure coat, joint, skin, brain, heart and organ function are all being supported! Q: Why should I bring my dog back for more obedience classes? A: Our canine companions do not continue getting better at obedience and manner because we do a Puppy Kindergarten class and perhaps a Beginner Adult dog training program. Our dogs get better as we continue to educate and practise with them. There is sooo much more after puppy and adult training levels! I witness many of my pet parents come into a puppy or adult beginner course, perhaps never having experienced a structured training environment, see how FUN and easy it is, and then continue on through beginner level 2, intermediate, advanced levels 1 throught 4 and so on. Sometimes they even carry on to competition obedience, rally o, agility, CGN, etc.

A: YES, it’s safe! Your dentist will assess your oral condition and map out a dental plan for the rest of your pregnancy. You can expect some changes in your oral health during pregnancy. The primary changes are due to a surge in hormones Dr. Parveen Atwal (estrogen and progesterone) which can exaggerate the way gum tissues react to plaque. If the plaque isn’t removed, it can cause gingivitis – red, swollen, tender gums that are more likely to bleed. So-called “pregnancy gingivitis” affects most pregnant women to some degree, so it is important to keep your regular check up and cleaning appointments. The best time for any dental treatment is between the fourth and sixth month of pregnancy. Women with dental emergencies can be treated during any trimester. Only x-rays that are needed for emergencies should be taken during pregnancy. Lastly, elective procedures that can be postponed should be delayed until after the baby’s birth.
Full electric hospital beds, whether a short term rental during recovery or a long term solution to improved mobility help to provide independence & comfort. These beds help raise your head and upper body to sitting position so it is easy and painless to get up and out of bed. The height of the bed can also be adjusted so it makes it easier to get out of the bed and transfer to a wheelchair, walker or steady yourself before standing. With the electric hand pendant, you can infinitely adjust the position of your head and knees to improve comfort while you are sleeping or just resting in bed. Other items to help with home recovery are walkers, overbed tables, transfer benches, long handled hand held showers, reachers, stocking aids, wheelchairs or scooters. Q: What should I do if my vehicle fails AirCare? A: If your vehicle fails it must be repaired and then re-inspected. To ensure a passing grade your vehicle should be repaired at an AirCare certified repair center.

After repairs are performed and completed the certified repair technician will give you a copy of the Repair Data Confirmation Form before returning to an Inspection Center for re-inspection. Self Defense - Martial Arts training teaches the practitioner how to effectively use body movement which when combined with the strength and flexibility developed can produce incredible results in a self defense situation. This knowledge also gives confidence which makes it less likely that you will be targeted by a potential attacker. Self Confidence - Confidence does not come naturally for many people but can be developed through training and practice. Martial Arts develops confidence through positive learning methods combined with an emphasis on goal setting. Confidence increases as students overcome challenges to accomplish their training goals. This confidence and discipline will also carry over to other aspects of life resulting in greater success in learning, leadership and physical endeavors.

A: Our sales so far this year are up somewhat from the same time last year. February 2013 concluded with Edith Katronis 34 residential single family sales and February 2014 saw an increase with 45 homes selling. Average price recorded last year at this time was $519,000 this year the average was $592,500. Attached properties, (condos and townhouses) sales are the same as last February (35) but the average price has risen from $277,000 to $321,000. This trend continued for March with strong sales and prices creeping up. Prices are strictly a function of supply and demand. If we have too many listings and few buyers prices drop as the sellers compete for a sale and when we have fewer listings the buyer has less choice and ends up paying more for the product. Most forecasts are predicting a good balanced market where the amount of listings for sale match the demand the buyers have.

GETTING THAT DOWNPAYMENT: It might be easier than you think! For many first-time homebuyers, saving the 5 per cent downpayment is one of the big obstacles to home ownership, especially if you're paying rent, paying down student loans, and trying to live a life. Here are some programs and tips that can give your downpayment a boost – to get you into your Feisal Panjwani, AMP home faster: The federal Home Buyers' Program (HBP) lets first-time homebuyers withdraw up to $25,000 each (or $50,000 for a couple) tax-free from their RRSPs. You'll need to pay those funds back, of course, on a repayment plan. A financial gift from a parent or blood relative can be used as a downpayment. You'll need to document in writing that the funds are a gift and that you are not required to pay the money back at any time. A parent or grandparent could also provide a loan with a modest interest rate and reasonable expectations for loan repayment. Or you could look at borrowing the downpayment through a loan or unsecured line of credit. If your dream home is out of reach, look for a starter home. Use today's low interest rates to start hammering down your mortgage, then watch for the opportunity to get the home of your dreams – using the equity and credit rating you've been building! Talk to us today – to ensure that you get off on the right foot in your home buying journey!
There are so many benefits to adding this item to your arsenal! Dogs need to be walked, that is a fact‌and usually the longer the better. Putting a well-fit backpack on Fido can greatly increase the energy drain, even if you don’t have a lot of time to spend walking. A 20 minute walk with appropriate weight in the pack can bestow the same benefits as an hour long walk without! If you work up to adding weight, this can also have a positive effect on bone density and muscle mass in your pet. A backpack can represent a “jobâ€? for your dog. This is where the mental stimulation comes in. A working dog is more focused and has a sense of purpose. Treat a walk with the pack as a training exercise and everyone wins! Practicality also plays a role‌Fido can carry your keys, his own water and other items that would otherwise be up to you to hold. A proper pack is also great for increasing visibility for both you and your pet. When choosing a pack, make sure it is size-appropriate and fits well. Chances are, you will only need to buy one good-quality backpack so pick one that is well-made, balanced and comfortable. Our favourite brand is Ruffwear. Adding weight to the pack is something that should be done gradually and should never exceed 10-15% of your pet’s weight (in lbs). You can use something like a water bottle or sand, that way the weight can be disposed of if Fido gets too tired. As always, check with your veterinarian before using weights with a dog that has skeletal or joint issues.

side of Port Kells Monday morning. No one was injured in the blaze. It is Surrey RCMP’s understanding that the former mushroom barn was housing a large medicinal marijuana grow operation when it went up in smoke around 9 a.m. at 18646 88 Ave. Police and Surrey fire investigators have spoken to the owner who was renting out the building. The fire burned the building down to ashes and there was little firefighters could do to stop it. Surrey RCMP said Monday afternoon that the fire is still too hot for investigators to look into what sparked the blaze. While there are some “allegations” made by the owner that the fire is suspicious, Cpl. Bert Paquet said police aren’t willing to say that at this time. March 31 marked the end of licenses for home grown legal medicinal marijuana grow operations. As of April 1, medical marijuana will only be allowed to be grown in commercial buildings, not in individual homes. That new federal legislation has been challenged in Supreme Court by growers and users, and an injunction issued by the federal court is allowing growers to continue, pending the appeal of the legislation .

Photos paint vivid picture of Surrey Travel back to the 1950s through two lectures presented by the Surrey Archives this month as part of its spring heritage series. See Surrey through the eyes of a tourist in 1953, the year English tourist Janet Hurst visited the city. Surrey 1953 tells her travel story through her unique collection of journal entries, postcards, photos and other mementoes. It’s presented Saturday, April 12. Neville Curtis’s Surrey (Saturday, April 19) views the city, its residents, and public spaces through the lens of a local photographer whose work offers a window into life in the 1950s. Curtis worked as a freelance reporter for the Vancouver Sun, White Rock Sun, and wrote a column for the Surrey Leader, according to the website, Memorybc.ca. On May 3, the city’s wider history comes to life in vivid images from the archives collection in Surrey in Colour. Par-
ticipants will learn about hand-coloured photographs and the art pieces that have documented Surrey’s many chapters. Acclaimed local historian Derek Hayes speaks about the cartography of the Fraser Valley when he presents his talk, Historical Maps of B.C. on May 10. Through a collection of beautiful and historically-significant maps. Hayes will explore the development of the

Sitting in the passenger seat I watched my daughter ready herself behind the wheel for what was to be her first time driving our van on the road. As she nervously asked me what steps were required to put the vehicle in motion, suddenly the difficulty of doing something the first time was impressed upon me. As with many experiences, the first is always the hardest. How many of us can recall the apprehension we felt as we put ice skates on for the first time? What about that first date? Or, that first airplane trip? Similar levels of angst can appear when contemplating going to church the first time. The questions seem to come in waves. Can I do this? What will people think of me? Will God accept me? Will anyone even talk to me? It is completely understandable that you will be nervous about attending church for the first time. Wednesdays 7-9 (both locations) You may wonder what even goes on during a church Wired Monk at 16811 60th Ave service. succeeded in bringing the outbreak under control March 10, five weeks after it had been declared. Growth in international travel is blamed for the arrival here of CPE, which is common in health facilities in South Asia and parts of the U.S. and Greece. “We knew it was just a matter of time before we began seeing it in our facilities, said Dr. Elizabeth Brodkin, Fraser Health’s executive medical director of infection prevention and control. Fraser now screens and tests patients who have recently had medical treatment outside Canada and continues to encourage good hand hygiene to prevent future CPE outbreaks.
