KITIMAT - Parents of Kitimat City High students gathered at a recent Coast Mountains School District Board of Education meeting in Terrace seeking answers relating to the anticipated closure and move of Kitimat City High to Mount Elizabeth Middle Secondary’s building. The surprise decision left many parents upset and looking for answers. Those parents don’t feel they found any at the last board meeting and now hope to get responses ahead of May’s board meeting. And board Chair Art Eras-

mus said there is a possibility a special meeting may be held earlier to have a conversation with parents and students about the change. Otherwise the next chance to speak to the board is May 21. “There’s going to be some continuing work on what’s happening with the program relocation at Kitimat City High,” said Erasmus. “We’ve had some staff down in Kitimat to talk to students and parents and that happened yesterday [April 16].” He noted that the board is not anticipating any budgetary benefit for moving the program to the Mount Elizabeth building and there has been no discussion on

what to do with the KCH building, including any conversation to make it an employment training facility. Among the parents at the last board meeting were Karen Jonkman and Susie Abreu. Jonkman’s son is a recent graduate of KCH and she’s certain her son would never have succeeded at the mainstream high school. “He was in Mount Elizabeth and it wasn’t a good fit for him. There’s no way he would have been able to do it without a program such as what they have [at KCH]. And that’s his words, not mine.” She said the inability to speak to board members was “frustrat-

ing.” “You expect that they would want to hear from the parents, especially in regards to making a decision like they made. But they made this decision without any consultation.” Abreu, who has an autistic son at KCH, said the news of the change of the school was “devastating” to her family. “I was so upset when I left [the meeting]. It’s hard when you have a child, it really affects them. I don’t want anything to happen to these kids.” The change applies only to location and it’s planned that KCH programming will be run physically separate from MEMSS.

PRINCE RUPERT As Enbridge Northern Gateway continues to struggle to gain social licence in the Northwest, Eagle Spirit Energy president and CEO Calvin Helin has proposed an alternate oil pipeline to carry crude to the coast. The project would see a refinery built to turn bitumen into synthetic crude oil, with Helin saying First Nations have “unequivocally told us they don’t want bitumen being shipped either through the provincial waters”. Helin declined to name locations being considered for a terminus port, only saying feedback was it

shouldn’t be in Kitimat, but a meeting in Lax Kw’alaams last October pointed to Eagle Spirit pursuing a refinery at Grassy Point. While discussions are very preliminary, Helin said the project hinges entirely on First Nations. “This is going to be a First Nations-led initiative,” he said. “We’re going to do whatever it takes, but if First Nations aren’t for this then we won’t do it,” he said. Helin said the company gathered feedback from First Nations communities for more than a year to learn how to earn a social licence for its proposal, announcing April 14 it had signed a “substantial num-

TERRACE - A man charged with the second degree murder of his father has been released on bail. Jeremy Price, 19, was first granted bail with a surety of $50,000 in supreme court here on April 16 but that surety was removed the next day. Under bail provisions, a surety takes the form of a guarantee an accused will be present for subsequent court appearances until the case is concluded. A ban on publication prevents the release of any more details from the bail hearing. On March 29, Terrace RCMP reported that they, along with the North District Crime Unit, were investigating a sudden death in Terrace. Police and other emergency vehicles descended on the 4600 Block of Goulet on the city’s southside. The following day, police identified the victim as Clifford Price, 50, and said that his son Jeremy had been charged with one count of manslaughter. The charge was later changed to second degree (MJHP TZY \JJPQ^ Ć^JWX murder.

Eagle Spirit Energy and the Aquilini Group, partners in the project, claim the idea is backed by many First Nations, even some opposed to Northern Gateway. If First Nations approve the idea, the Aquilini Group has committed to underwrite the estimated $18 billion cost of the pipeline. However, Helin noted not all bands that signed non-disclosure agreements are in favour of the idea, but are mere-

ly willing to discuss it. The claim of significant support has been called into question by Coastal First Nations executive director Art Sterritt. “All Eagle Spirit has been able to demonstrate is that they have the support of two First Nations,” he said, adding the alliance of First Nations on B.C.’s North and Central Coast and Haida Gwaii does not approve the project any more than it does Northern Gateway. “For Eagle Spirit to think somehow light crude is going to be more acceptable to Coastal

First Nations is erroneous ... there is no way the Coastal First Nations would ever think a project that would get synthetic crude to the coast would be anymore acceptable than bitumen.” Sterritt said a spill in this area would destroy a longtime source of food for First Nations because the industry “doesn’t know how to clean up synthetic crude anymore than they do bitumen”. He also said the site of the Alaskan Exxon Valdez spill has an intertidal zone much smaller than Prince Rupert and surrounding area, and

most of the oil from the 1989 incident hasn’t been recovered. “While I respect that Calvin Helin thinks he’s coming up with a solution that people might find more environmentally acceptable, the reality is it’s just as bad,” he said. Lax Kw’alaams Mayor Garry Reece and Metlakatla Chief Harold Leighton did not immediately return requests for comment by the Northern View. Both Tsimshian Nations have previously opposed oil pipelines and tankers within their traditional territories.

This summer, Seabridge Gold expects to hear the decision on its environmental assessment application for the KSM Project, a proposed gold-copper-silver-molybdenum mine located 65 kilometers north of Stewart. The environmental assessment is a mechanism for government to review, identify and evaluate potential effects of a proposed project. Seabridge Gold has been conducting environmental studies on the KSM Project since 2007 and officially submitted the Environmental Assessment Application in February 2013. Since acquiring the KSM Project, Seabridge has made significant efforts to ensure the project has minimal environmental impact. In order to study potential impacts of the project, Seabridge considered baseline conditions in the area including water quality and quantity; fish species and aquatic life; wildlife populations; and plant species, among many other things. At the same time, Seabridge worked with regulatory officials, federal, provincial and municipal governments, local Treaty and First Nations and communities to identify culturally and economically important aspects of the environment, called Valued Components. Seabridge then used technical experts to model and predict the project’s effect on these Valued Components. Finally, based on the predictions, Seabridge made several design changes and proposed mitigation measures to ensure the KSM project leaves a minimal impact. Water was identified as one of 60 Valued Components. Seabridge recognizes water is an important resource, and protecting water is a guiding principle behind the design of the KSM Project. Because higher concentrations of metals occur naturally in the water around KSM, Seabridge has to manage, not only water that comes in contact with mining activities, but other naturally poor quality water in the area. Ministry tax exemption questioned By Shaun Thomas

PRINCE RUPERT - Does the Lighthouse Harbour Ministries downtown location qualify for a $2,800 tax exemption as a place of worship? That is the question facing Prince Rupert city council in light of a request for council to wave the taxes for this year and the years ahead from Chaplain Norman Craddock and Vancouver-based Chaplain Ray Hanna. The ministries, which has been offering “Christian care to seafarers” and services such as Internet and phone to those coming off international cargo ships in Prince Rupert since 2007, was not paying taxes previously as they were renting the space. But in December, Lighthouse Harbour Ministries jumped at the opportunity to purchase the building at 245 3rd Ave. West and are now

seeking exemption. While the organization says similar spaces have been exempted in North Vancouver and Delta, Prince Rupert councillors have asked for clarification from staff in light of budgetary concerns facing the city and the location’s current classification as a Business (other). “We don’t know if this is a church or not ... if they can provide land titles to show it is a church I would just say this is a beaurocratic mixup,” said Coun. Joy Thorkelson, who said the matter becomes trickier if it is not considered a church. “I have a problem with giving a new group a grant ... if we lose the $2,8000 in tax, it’s the same

as giving a grant for $2,800 and I don’t know of any community group we have given that size of a grant to.” As the tax exemption could not be granted until next year, one option that was looked at for this year was to write the province and ask for the taxes to be forgiven. However, that Anna Ashley would still result in the city missing out on the money it would have otherwise collected. “If we could help out and not lose that $2,800 it would not be a problem,” said Coun. Anna Ashley. “I would ask staff to talk to the Lighthouse Ministries to see if it is considered a place of worship.”

Police investigating Kitimat fires By Cameron Orr THE NORTHERN CONNECTOR

KITIMAT - Police are investigating two house fires which each took place in the early hours of Saturday, April 12. The first was on Kechika Street at 5:32 a.m. Crews responded with one engine, one

ladder truck, eight firefighters and an ambulance. All residents were safely evacuated. Later that morning, at approximately 6:05 a.m., a fire on Bayer Street was reported. Some of the crews left the earlier fire and responded with one engine, one ladder truck, and five firefighters.

When fire crews arrived, they found a vehicle on fire in the garage of the two-storey, wood frame home. All residents made it out safely. Both fires are currently under investigation by the RCMP although the police have not confirmed if either events are criminal in nature.

Business Expo is on in Terrace today and continues tomorrow gas industry regulator. Two out-of-area modular home companies and a scaffolding company have also signed on as exhibitors, she said, a further sign of interest in the area’s economic future. The business expo, to be held at the Sportsplex, will take up both arena floors. “We have 87 booths [in the main arena] and have just half a dozen left,” said Fielding April 16. Booth space in the main arena is dressed up so as to present a uniform appearance. That’s not the case in the Hidber arena next door where RV and other automotive dealers will set up shop. “In the Hidber they can spread out and that works for them,” said Fielding of exhibitors there. Unlike past years, the business expo will be a two-day event from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 25 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on

April 26. The suggestion not to have a three-day event with a Sunday opening came from businesses who said it was difficult to provide employees for an event that would actually begin on Thursday with set up, said Fielding. “And especially nowadays, we’re hearing how some businesses are having difficulty finding staff in any event,” she said. TERRACE - Branch #13, Terrace, of The Royal Canadian Legion and the name Kirkaldy go hand in hand. When this Branch was established Jock Kirkaldy was the Charter President and his son Sam was the Charter Secretary. Both gentlemen remained involved throughout their lifetimes. Lawrence (Bud) Kirkaldy, Sam’s son, joined the Legion after time spent in the Navy and held many Executive positions. Three generations of Kirkaldys were not the end of the line.

Brian Kirkaldy – son, grandson and great-grandson have carried on the great tradition of service to Veterans and the community. Brian has been on the Executive for many years in various positions including President and was the Zone Commander for the whole Northwestern area. Presently and for the immediate past years, Brian has been the Treasurer of the Branch and continues the tradition of the Kirkaldy family in service to Veterans and to the community. NORTHWEST TRANSMISSION LINE Snowmobiler and Winter Recreation Users Public Safety Notice Snowmobilers and winter recreationalists (cross country skiers, snow shoers, etc.) should be aware that the Northwest Transmission Line (NTL) is under construction, and the NTL right-of-way remains a construction zone with restricted access. This is required to avoid safety risks associated with such things as unmarked guy lines, construction materials and other potential hazards along the right-of-way, as well as for public and worker safety as construction activities continue. In particular, over the past year many of the transmission structures for the NTL project have been installed. Most of these structures are supported by currently unmarked guy lines which can be very difficult to see against a snow background. Please avoid using the right-of-way for your activities. If you are in the area, take extra care when travelling in the vicinity of the transmission structures. TERRACE - Shell Canada, the main proponent of the planned Canada LNG project at Kitimat, has signed on as a sponsor at this year’s Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. It’s joining returning sponsors TransCanada, which would build the pipeline to carry natural gas to Shell’s plant, Spectra Energy, selected to build a natural gas pipeline to a planned LNG plant near Prince Rupert, AltaGas from Calgary which has its own LNG plans for Kitimat, and regional airline Hawkair. Chamber manager Carol Fielding said the list of sponsors reflects the potential for a liquefied natural gas industry in the region. And the participation at the business expo itself does as well, she added. “We have the B.C. Oil and Gas Commission,” said Fielding, which is the provincial natural

PRINCE RUPERT - In a crisis some people are able to do things they didn’t think were possible. Prince Rupert’s Gianna Evans is living proof of that. Earlier this year, the 12-year-old performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on her father before emergency responders arrived, despite not knowing how. “I watched a movie a couple of days before, and one thing the main character kept saying was ‘nothing’s impossible’. That’s what I was thinking,” Gianna said. In January Gianna was laying in bed one night when she heard Bill, her dad, arrive home from work. “As soon as I closed my eyes I heard a big boom,” she

said. Upon investigation, Gianna saw her father gasping for air and turning blue on the hallway floor; Bill had a heart attack on his way up the stairs. Although she wasn’t entirely sure how to, Gianna began performing CPR in an effort to revive him. Meanwhile, her mother Kori and brother Michael called 911. “If Gianna wasn’t home that night, he wouldn’t be here today. I couldn’t comprehend what was happening,” said Kori, who was so overwhelmed with panic she couldn’t even provide the dispatcher with the family’s address. Bill was transferred to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver and was in a coma for 12 days. But doctors from Prince Rupert and Vancouver agreed that without Gianna’s quick thinking the outcome would have

PRINCE RUPERT - With the City of Prince Rupert feeling the strain on its finances for the coming fiscal year, Mayor Jack Mussallem raised concerns with the amount the city is contributing to the SkeenaQueen Charlotte Regional District (SQCRD) during a budget discussion last week. “Because the city is largely self-contained, we doesn’t require a lot (of services) from the regional district,” Mussallem said at the last regular council meeting. Mussallem was particularly concern with the amount the city is being charged for administrative costs. Administration includes general operation

of the SQCRD office in Prince Rupert, the salaries, wages and benefits of office employees, director remuneration, professional fees and director and staff travel costs. The 2014-2018 financial plan posted on the SQCRD website shows the City of Prince Rupert is being requisitioned $252,425 for administration in 2014, a $16,975 increase from 2013. The regional district system has participating jurisdictions and their residents pay for the services they use. Every service provided by a regional district is accounted for separately using a dedicated service fund. Because of this, revenues and costs specific to one service cannot be shifted to or spread among other services.

However, jurisdictions pay for the percentage its residents make up in each service used. Because of this, Prince Rupert will pay just under a third of administration costs, or 74.24 per cent, with the eight other SQCRD municipalities and electoral areas contributing less than five per cent each. Overall, Prince Rupert will contribute $556,239 tax dollars to the regional district in 2014, which will include contribute the operating the recycling centre and provide grants to the Prince Rupert Regional Archives and North Pacific Cannery. This is more than $360,000 more than the second highest paying jurisdiction. Coun. Anna Ashley, who sit on the SQCRD board, said

Mussallem also said he believes communities on Haida Gwaii should make up its own regional district, citing the distance. Regional district boundaries were based on school district boundaries when they were incorporated in the 1960s, but were later balanced out to consider geography and financial strength, said Alec Tully, spokesperson for the Ministry of Community, Sports and Cultural Development. “The Skeena-Queen Charlotte Regional District is one of the smallest regional districts in terms of area and population,” he said.

In the last column we looked at pairing a Pinot Noir to a variety of meats. We used a red wine sauce to do this with. Making a wine sauce whether white or red will enhance your wine and food experience. You literally cannot go wrong serving wine with your meal. The simple rule is “Do not cook with a wine that you would not drink” There are some general rules that make paring a wine with the food of the season easy. White wines for fish and poultry red wines for red meats. Within the wines of the world you will find a white that suits your pallet to serve with your fish and a red that you will like to serve with your beef. I would like to thank everyone that has read this column. It is my hope that you enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. I am going to Victoria to take my level 2 sommelier course. Farmers seek changes to ALC legislation By Tom Fletcher

VICTORIA - Newly appointed Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick is meeting with B.C. Agriculture Council representatives this week to discuss their growing concerns about a plan to set new rules for protected farmland in the B.C. Interior. When changes to the Agricultural Land Commission were announced in late March, the move was generally endorsed by Rhonda Driediger, then chair of the BCAC.

Dreidiger, a berry grower in the Fraser Valley, said opening up the Interior, Kootenay and North regions to secondary uses based on social and economic needs would help farms innovate and stay in business. Dreidinger has been succeeded as BCAC chair by Stan Vander Waal, who operates flower greenhouses in Chilliwack. After meeting last week with Letnick, Vander Waal wants changes to the legislation. “It is the position of the B.C. Agriculture Council that as currently written, Bill 24 threatens the sustainability of agriculture

in B.C.,” Vander Waal said in a statement. The BCAC is forming a steering committee of member farmers to continue discussions with the government. The changes were spearheaded by Energy Minister Bill Bennett as part of the govenment’s “core review” of operations. They would allow consideration of more non-farm uses outside the Island, South Coast and Okanagan regions where most of B.C.’s farm income is generated. Bill 24 also formalizes the cabinet appointment pro-

cess for the ALC’s six regional panels, so two or three local farmers make the front-line decisions on applications for permitted uses such as a secondary residence. NDP agriculture critic Nicholas Simons has protested the legislation since it was revealed. “The decision to protect land suitable for agriculture 40 years ago was for the benefit of future generations,” Simons said. “Having two zones and the ‘regional panels’ make decisions about agricultural land is too political.”

KITIMAT - Kitimat’s SuperValu grocery store will likely be closing their doors on June 14. Store manager Josh Gallant said that he received notice from his superiors late last Tuesday that an agreement could not be made on the store’s lease. Loblaws leases

the space from a Vancouverbased building owner. Gallant said the decision will affect about 35 staff members and three managers. “A lot of them are full time,” he said, adding that some of the cashiers have been working there almost 30 years. “The owners of the building didn’t accept the contract from Loblaws and to make a long story short, that’s why we’re closing

the doors on June 14. That’s all I know, that’s what I was told last night at seven o’clock.” Building owner Dick Leung told the Sentinel that he hadn’t been informed the latest lease offer had been rejected but believes if store staff are being informed on the closure it is likely the case. “It’s not confirmed yet. It might be,” said Leung. “It’s not finalized yet.”

He said the last lease was a five year term. “If they told the manager they’re closing it down, I think it might be final,” he said. He said there is another grocery store that may be interested in the space but he could not disclose more information than that. Gallant said the company has leased the space since 1961.

Closure of two northeast mines to impact Ridley Terminals By Shaun Thomas THE NORTHERN CONNECTOR

PRINCE RUPERT - It may be more than 1,000 kilometres away, but devastating news delivered to residents of Tumbler Ridge could very well be felt here in Prince Rupert. Walter Energy announced last Tuesday its plans to immediately close the Wolverine mine, resulting in the loss of 415 job in the community, and completely idle the Brazion mine near Chetwynd by July, affecting approximately 280 employees. While job losses total nearly

700, here on the North Coast the impact will be at Ridley Terminals Inc., which ships much of the coal from the mines to customers overseas. In 2013 the two mines moved a total of 3.6 million tonnes of metallurgical coal, while the total amount of metallurgical coal moved through the terminal that year was 7.8 million tonnes. However, Ridley Terminals corporate affairs manager Michelle Bryant said what the closure of those mines means has yet to be determined. “There will be an impact, but

what that impact will be is unknown as one of the mines will continue to be open for some time,” she said. “At this point I cannot say exactly what it will be.” In making the announcement, Walter Energy CEO Walter J. Scheller III said market conditions were to blame. “These coal reserves remain valuable assets. However, given the current metallurgical coal pricing environment, our best course of action at this time is to idle these operations until we can achieve reasonable value from these reserves,” he said.

PRINCE RUPERT - The Ministry of Children and Family Development is defending its support for families of children diagnosed with autism following concerns raised by the family of Angie and Robert Robinson. As reported last week, the Robinson family is calling into question supports available in Prince Rupert families with autistic youth following the April 3 murder-suicide on Ebert Street. In a statement, the ministry said there is support for families across B.C. “For children under age six,

families are eligible for up to $22,000 per year to assist with the cost of autism intervention services, based on best practice, to promote their child’s communication, social-emotional, pre-academic and functional life-skills development. For children age six to 18, families receive funding up to $6,000 per year to assist with the cost of out-of-school intervention services to promote their child’s communication, social-emotional, academic and functional life skills,” the ministry said. “B.C. is the only province in Canada that has a no-waitlist policy for families to access autism funding once their child or youth

has received a confirmed diagnosis ... with autism funding, families are able to choose the type of intervention ... that best meets the needs of their child.” But a former resident commenting on the story through social media agrees with the Robinsons. “As a parent of a child with autism and a former resident of Prince Rupert, I can say that the services in Rupert are non-existent,” wrote Carmen Helin. “I can not imagine doing this journey with my son without the supports he and our family have in Vancouver. The Robinson family declined comment.

KIITMAT - A trip to the BC gymnastics championship in March was described by Head Coach Adik Isakov as “awesome” for Dynamics gymnasts, who returned home from Kamloops with medals and ribbons. Kitimat sent seven gymnasts to compete: Damon Taylor, Nicholas Ferguson, Matthew James, Christopher Wojciechowski, Noah ArltDufresne, Melissa Yeoh, and Ferron Ouwehand-Minchin. It was Ferron, Noah, Matthew and Christopher’s first competition

at the provincials level where the club gymnasts competed against over 600 competitors. The boys were competing in six events and the girls competing in four events. Head coach Adik was very pleased with how the gymnasts prepared. “Our gymnasts work very hard in practice and they understand that by committing themselves to training to be the very best they can be, they can achieve more than anyone previously believed,” he said. Damon placed fourth for Rings and seventh for Floor. Nicholas finished fifth for Vault and sixth for Parallel Bars. Melissa ended

with fifth for Vault. Noah earned a bronze for Floor and Rings, fourth for Pommel, Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bars with fourth Overall. Christopher finished with seventh for Vault. The Dynamics continued from that competition to the Twisters Invitational in Abbottsford and club athletes continued to earn medals. Four athletes competed; Kenna Sweet, Damon Taylor, Nicholas Ferguson and Andria Van Horne. Andria competed against 59 athletes and was fourth all-around and got gold medal on beam. Damon got gold on vault and bronze on rings.

PRINCE GEORGE - The Prince George Barracuda Swim Club usually trumps their rivals from Northwest B.C., Points North, the team comprised of swimmers from Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Smithers and Terrace. But at the 2014 Barracuda Dental Moose Meet, it was Points North that got the last laugh. Beating their rivals by 397 points from April 12-13 was the group from the Northwest and more than a few Rupertites shared in the points. “We sent 23 swimmers,” explained Prince Rupert Amateur Swim Club head coach Chris Street.

“Prince George often beats us so to beat them by that much was pretty significant.” Points North won the meet with 1,604 points while Prince George followed in second with 1,207. Kamloops rounded out the top-three with 1,053 points. Williams Lake, Fort St. John, Grand Prairie, Quesnel, Chetwynd and Salmon Arm also participated to bring the total number of swimmers at the meet to close to 300, with age categories ranging from 10-and-under to 16-and-over, the provincial categories. The Rapids’ Isaac Mastroianni (10) took home quite the haul with a gold medal in 10-and-under 200 freestyle and a silver in the 10-andunder 200 IM. Along with the hard-

ware, Mastroianni took first in 50 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, second in 50 freestyle and third in 50 and 100 backstroke. Not to be outdone, teammate Emma Movold (10) won gold for 10-and-under 200 freestyle and silver for 10-and-under 200 IM. “The kids really like when they get to compete as Points North. We’re very close with our friends in Kitimat, Smithers and Terrace, said Street.” Avery Movold (14) won silver aggregate (total points scored) in the 14-15 girls’ age group for the Rapids while taking first in 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke along with second in 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle and third in 50 backstroke.

Kai Leighton (11) also won silver aggregate in 11-and-under boys, taking first in 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. He took second in 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke and third in 200 backstroke to complete the aggregate. Other fine performances came from Warren Barton (11) who came in first in 50 butterfly, third in 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly and grabbed new swim BC “AA” times in 100 butterfly (1:35.68) and 50 freestyle (36.31). Isaac Dolan (10) also had a new Swim BC “A” time in 50 freestyle (40.06) while Zach Dolan (12) came in third place in 50 and 100 breaststroke and swam a new “AA” time in 200 IM (2:52.8) and 50 free-

style (32.06). Veteran Branden Hagen (16) claimed first in 50 breaststroke and second in the 100 and 200. He also took second in 100 freestyle and third in 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke. Amy Leighton (12) took home first in 50 breaststroke, second in 100 IM, 100 butterfly and third in 200 breaststroke and 400 freestyle. Hannah Toye (11) grabbed first in 50 backstroke and third in 50 butterfly. Swim-mate Robert Warren (14) had new “A” times in 100 backstroke (1:19.06), 100 freestyle (1:08.26), and 50 freestyle (30.99). The Rapids next take to the pool in Kitimat on the first weekend in May for the Kitimat Spring Invitational.

Man sought for camp break in DEASE LAKE - RCMP here are looking for a man who broke into the room of a person at the Red Chris mine camp Feb. 21. “A female entered her room and interrupted the male who was hiding behind the door,” said Constable Andrew Curtis of the Dease Lake RCMP detachment in a release last week. “After yelling at the suspect, the victim ran for help, but upon return the suspect had fled the scene,” he said. The man is described as Caucasian with blond/grey hair who is between 35-40 years old and who is between five feet nine inches and five feet 10 inches tall. He’s said to have a skinny body size and was wearing medium blue Levi Wrangler jeans, a black shirt and wearing a red/ black/white hat at the time he was discovered. Those with information are asked to contact their local RCMP detachment. The Red Christ camp is located south and west of Iskut.
