Witness leaps into water to rescue driver Mike Davies Campbell RiveR miRRoR
Two pickups collided at the entrance to Discovery Pier, sending one of them into the water Wednesday. At approximately 1 p.m., according to Const. Peter Wise of the Campbell River RCMP, police received multiple 911 calls to attend a collision at the entrance to Fisherman’s Wharf/Discovery Pier between a pickup truck exiting the parking lot – being driven by Campbell River Mayor Walter Jakeway – and another traveling northbound on Highway
19A. The driver of the northbound vehicle lost control and plunged over a bank and into the water by Fisherman’s Wharf. John Brett, who helped rescue the woman as her truck submerged in the harbour, was travelling north. He was the first one at the door of the sinking truck. “She clipped the truck that was coming out of the pier parking lot,” he said, “and skidded over the sidewalk off a planter and over she went.” Brett said he immediately parked his vehicle, scrambled down the rocky bank, dove in, swam to the truck – which was still floating
slightly when he arrived – and managed to get the woman’s attention enough to get her to open her window. “I jammed my head and shoulders in and managed to get her seatbelt off as we sunk, came up for air, and then went back and pulled her through the window,” Brett said. Const. Wise confirmed that the occupant was treated by paramedics on scene for precautionary reasons and cold-water immersion, but sustained no serious injuries from the incident. Booms (left) surround the area of the submerged pickup to prevent the escape of any fluids that might leak from the vehicle. Wharf manager Phyllis Titus says there will be no environmental impact from the incident. The vehicle recovery (above) went off without incident in front of a large crowd of onlookers and was completed by approximately 5:30 p.m. The cause of the accident that produced this result is still under investigation.

Mayor Walter Jakeway’s truck, after being “clipped” by the yet-to-be submerged vehicle, was driven into the guard posts protecting the Telus box at the entrance to the parking lot that serves the Government Warf and Campbell River Pier.
Accident: Impressive response Continued from Pg. 1
ing southbound on the east sidewalk of the highway – the one the truck crossed on its way to the water – as the incident happened. He said that, in retrospect, it replays over in his mind, “like a movie in slow motion,” remembering the car careening over the sidewalk in front of him. “At least I had time to react. It was coming straight towards me, and all of a sudden it veered off over the bank,” he said. “If I would have been 15 steps further [up the sidewalk] I’d be on that grill and dead.” Wharf manager Phyllis Titus said that the facility’s response was also urgent, and booms were immediately set out to contain any leaks from the vehicle, so there would be no environmental impact due to leakage from the submerged vehicle. “I’ve been here 13 years and never seen something like this,” she said, adding that she was glad there were no injuries. “There was one person in the water almost before the truck was, and
maybe five people in [the water] right away to help her get out,” she said. Mayor Jakeway agreed that the public’s response was impressive. “I was surprised at how quickly people jumped in to help. I would have if nobody else had,” he said, but added that he was on the phone with
a 911 operator and saw that the woman was being attended to. After it was determined there were no injuries and the commotion was starting to calm down, Titus surveyed the scene and those crowded around watching. “It’s just a truck in the water,” she said, as they awaited
a dive team to begin the recovery of the vehicle. The removal was completed without serious incident as the public crowded the sidewalk to watch the event, which was over by approximately 5:30 p.m. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the RCMP.

Caution tape is strung up across one of the viewing platforms at Dick Murphy Park. Pe ople are b eing warned to stay away from the wooden structure near Corilair as it’s deteriorating to the point that it has been deemed a safety hazard. Coun. Larry Samson said the support timbers underneath the deck are rotting. “There is a concern you could go through the deck,” Samson said. “If there’s too many people,
there’s concern it could collapse.” Samson said he discovered the poor state of the structure when he was down at the park with his grandson. He mentioned it to city staff who discovered the support timbers were in bad shape. Staff originally elected to hold off on repairs until next year’s budget planning but Samson didn’t want to wait. “I thought it was too important,” Samson said. “It’s part of our Dick Murphy Park and it’s really a gem that park and it’s used by, if not
hundreds, thousands of people and I thought it was too important to wait until next year.” So at last week’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Samson put forward a motion to have staff undertake renovations and the rebuilding of the platform which comes off the northwest end of Tyee Spit. “It was supported by all of council,” said Samson, who noted council has allocated up to $50,000 for repairs. “Council felt we have to keep up the infrastructure in our parks.”

The project will go out for a Request for Proposals and Samson is hopeful construction will only take a few weeks. “The pilings into the river are in good condition which is good news,” Samson said. “It allows us to proceed without there being an environmental impact. “Initial indications are that the support timbers - the logs underneath – will have to be replaced as well as the deck planks,” Samson added. “We’ll know more once we start dismantling the top deck.”

City issues water warning Kristen Douglas CAMPBELL RIVER MIRROR
The city is cautioning residents to be diligent with their water use in order to avoid another water ban. Since the current dry spell began last week, the city has been seeing an increase in domestic water consumption. Nathalie Viau, the city’s utilities project supervisor, said the city is teetering on the edge of over use. “We are not as high as two weeks ago but we are heading in this direction if residents don’t curb consumption of water,” Viau said. “The consumption rate has been increasing steadily by approximately 10 per cent a day (and) Environment Canada’s weather forecast for the next week
is dry and hot with no sign of cooling off.” As of Tuesday night, residents were using 772 litres per second of city water, which is slightly over the allocated amount of 765 litres per second for residential and commercial use. The city also reserves 300 litres per second for fire suppression. Two weeks ago, residents were using 880 litres per second which prompted the city to enact a two-day, stage three water restriction for the first time since 2009. Under the ban, residents were prohibited from watering their lawns, washing vehicles or filling pools, ponds and hot tubs. Viau said the city is asking residents to be cognizant of their water consumption to avoid
another water ban. “The city is hoping to not have to implement a stage three once again,” Viau said. “We are asking residents to be mindful of their water consumption, especially when irrigating their lawns and/or gardens.” The city suggests that residents follow these guidelines for water conservation and lawn care: n Mow lawns to a length of three inches or more, reducing moisture loss and sunburn. n Set sprinklers to water for 20 minutes or less per lawn watering session. n Water for a maximum of two sessions per week, encouraging deep root systems. n Provide good aeration and drainage to create a healthy lawn.

Our View
Embrace summer It’s hot.
We say: Do whatever strikes your fancy with this great weather
There’s no doubt summer has arrived in earnest this week, sending temperatures near record levels across the region. Many of us have sought solace as we can. Snapping up fans and mini air conditioners off the shelves. Heading to the beach or the local
outdoor pool. Heck, even dipping our feet in a bucket full of ice water.
Whatever works. Some of us are lucky enough to get out of town for a while, camping or holidaying near the ocean or a lake where we can cool off. The rest of us, those in town out of choice or necessity, may be tied to our usual routines and responsibilities. If possible, this is a good time to break out a little. Forget the routines, let the dishes wait, put the projects around the house on hold. This kind of weather is only here for a brief stretch. We’ll be back to wet and cool before we know it.
By drinking our fill of what we’ve been given today, we might—just possibly—be a little more able to savour those romantic, drizzly West Coast days that come in earnest by November. Head down to the beach with a basket of food and a blanket after work to savour the sunset. Invite some friends over for a barbecue, or meet them in one of our fantastic local parks for a picnic. Do whatever strikes your fancy. Summer’s here. Embrace it. – Black Press

Courthouse disgusting On Wednesday, July 30, I had the duty to attend court in the City of Campbell River as a witness. Arriving early, I noticed a considerable amount of garbage in the entrance way leading up to the front doors and the wheel chair ramp of the court house. Not limited to wine bottles, cooler bottles, beer bottles, bottle caps, clothing, food containers, stacks of old wood, cigarette butts, condom wrappers, and used needles. The place was an eye sore. Perhaps I could go so far as say a health hazard. Is this how we want our image seen? To enter a place of justice but first I must wade through the garbage to get there? Excuse me but I thought the dump was located on the Gold River Highway until today. I myself took the liberty to go out side and remove most of what I could pick up and dispose of in a garbage bag. I was too disgusted to walk around the rest of the building. The courthouse is owned by all citizens of this province. It shows not only a bad image to the government of this province but to the contractor company being used, the citizens of the cities in which not only a court house is located but any government building and the City of Campbell River Continued on Pg. 9

Summertime and the drinking is easy
Tom Fletcher B.C. Views
The B.C. government’s move to ease liquor restrictions is undergoing its hot summer test, and music festivals are only part of it. Premier Christy Clark’s government loves its populist gestures, and as with increasing rural highway speed limits, the negative effects have yet to be quantified. Free-range drinking, or removing fences from festival beer gardens, is one of the moves that will be undergoing a post-mortem as communities clean up after their big summer parties. One of the biggest, the Squamish Valley Music Festival with headline acts Arcade Fire, Bruno Mars and Eminem, is still to come, Aug. 8 to 10. Country fans gathered over the long weekend for
Sunfest in the Cowichan Valley, with the Rockin’ River Musicfest in Mission coming up next. (Another big bash next weekend is Shambhala, the popular electronic music event on a farm near Nelson, but alcohol is officially banned there and their big issue is controlling the effects of “ecstasy” and other rave drugs.) Early reviews of free-range festivals have been positive. Victoria’s Rock the Shores event went smoothly without a fenced-in area for alcohol sales. Festival organizers did create a fenced “dry” area, but I’m told hardly anyone used it. Penticton has had its share of experience with summer bashes gone bad. For B.C. Day it inherited the Boonstock Music and Arts festival, sent packing
from a small community in Alberta after complaints of rowdy crowds and crime, so Penticton officials were understandably cautious. Boonstock organizers were refused a provincial liquor licence after struggling to arrange security and emergency services. The festival licence process is likely getting renewed attention these days. After attending the recent Calgary Folk Festival, where the beer garden was securely fenced and the capacity monitored, I’m wondering what is really achieved by these measures. Litter and empties were contained, but since under-aged festival visitors are allowed into the serving area, it’s not clear to me whether the fence was ever worth the
effort. It’s unlikely that there will be riots at farm markets as a result of allowing sales of locally made beer, wine and spirits, or from relaxing rules for operation of winery tasting rooms. But there are more reforms to come. New regulations are on the way for the Agricultural Land Reserve. As it stands, farms are allowed to have a winery or cidery, but not a brewery or distillery. Expect that to be changed as B.C. and other provinces strive to develop their craft beer and spirits industry, trying to emulate the tourism benefits that have come from an expanding wine industry. One area where the B.C. government has screwed up is its minimum pricing

City enacts campfire fire Following the Coastal Fire Centre open fire ban, the city of Campbell River is banning all open fires, except beach fires in specified areas, as of 12 noon today. “This means no open burning will be permitted in the city of Campbell River, except beach fires below the high tide line, between Maryland Road and 1st Avenue and at Dick Murphy Park until further notice,” says Fire Chief Ian Baikie. “This ban covers all

recreational fires, including campfires on private lands.” The public is reminded that beach fires must be no larger than 60 centimetres (24 inches) in diameter, below the high tide line and away from other driftwood. Fires must be attended by an adult with equipment to extinguish the fire (i.e. bucket). “The Campbell River Fire Department appreciates your assistance to help prevent wildfire in our community,” Baikie said.

for not enforcing the bylaws we have in place. One would think the city is too afraid to go after the province to clean up this mess. The province by right is breaking the law in front of our court house never the less and it seems the city could care less. When I or anyone else entries these we should be proud to call it ours. This is a deplorable condition. In an entrance way to a court house never the less. I was told the sheriff would come and clean it up. I am not paying
a sheriff or wasting his time to do a job that is not theirs to do. I am also told a file has been opened up on this situation. More than a file needs to be opened up on this and I am asking not only the Minister of Justice to look into this but the Ministry of Public Works to have all government buildings to be at a level that all citizens of British Columbia can be proud of. I, myself, will be touring different parts of the province this summer and reassured if I see this condition of a health issue the MLA for that riding will be receiv-
ing an email from me. Shame on the government for letting it get to this condition and to the city as well. The problem is not with the meth. clinic or the homeless but due to plain laziness and uncaringness of the people who have control to change this problem. Be proud of where you work. Your government work place belongs to all British Columbians do not let this happen and disgrace us an further. I am sure there are standards in place for a government buildings. rules, introduced along with the overdue move to allow “happy hour” discounts in pubs. The minimum price of 25 cents an ounce for beer, 60 cents an ounce for wine and $3 an ounce for hard liquor was an effort to balance business-friendly policy with legitimate public health concern about over-consumption. But the minimum beer price prompted protests from a few watering holes that had been selling pints or jugs of beer for slightly less. Some media made a big deal of this, and the government over-reacted to this tempest in a beer stein with an ill-thought-out cut in the minimum price to 20 cents an ounce – for beer in jugs only. The pub industry was not impressed with this bit of knee-jerk populism. Encouraging beer jug sales makes it difficult to see if someone at a table of revelers is being over-served, drinking most of the jug himself. obbie Taylor has returned from serving a twoyear mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Taylor was assigned to the Utah Salt Lake City mission, where he worked in a variety of areas, from downtown to Grantsville, a ranching community on the road to Nevada that Taylor described as laid back and easy going. He also spent time in smaller cities such as Layton and Farmington. While on his mission, Taylor spent his time teaching people and providing service, both in a community sense and to individuals. Missionaries always work in pairs, and Taylor’s companions came from a variety of places – from as far as Korea and Brazil, as well as states from Hawaii to Virginia. He also served with fellow Canadians. He felt that working with partners from different backgrounds and interests taught him how to get along with people. Because Salt Lake City

He worked with a congregation from Samoa, and also participated in some Spanish activities. “They have cool parties,” he said. While dining with a Filipino family, he was invited to try balut, a boiled, fertilized duck
egg considered a delicacy in the Phillipines. He liked it, “it was tasty.” Taylor also spent time with refugees from the Sudan. “It was sad,” he said, “because what they want most is to go home.” Missionaries have one day a week called their preparation day, when they take care of domestic things like laundry and shopping, and on
HAFI Funds Home Modifications for Disabled Man When Lorie and Walter bought their home in Port Alberni 13 years ago they slowly began renovating the unfinished basement to accommodate Walter’s changing needs as his muscular dystrophy advanced. “The basement was a black hole when we moved in,” recalled Walter. “After 12 years of skimping and saving, we made the downstairs completely wheelchair accessible, except for the bathroom. It was way too small. I could only stand for about a minute and a half without collapsing in the shower stall and I could no longer pull myself out of the tub in the upstairs’ bathroom, even with Lorie’s help.”

some of those days, Taylor was able to visit historical sites such as the Latter-day Saint Church History Museum and go on a tour of the Salt Lake City cemetery where he heard stories about the many historical figures buried there. He also participated in the recreation of a pioneer handcart trek. “It was fun, and a lot of hard, hot work,” he said. Taylor feels that he has learned how to “fend for myself, how to deal with problems on my own and how to help others with their problems.” When asked if there is one thing he would take away from this experience, he said “Don’t compromise the things you want in the future for the things you want now.” Overall, of his time away, he said “I’ve enjoyed it, and I’ve enjoyed who I’ve become because of it.” He plans to attend Brigham Young University – Idaho in the fall, and hopes to continue to provide service to others throughout his life.
Through funding from BC Housing’s Home Adaptations for Independence (HAFI) program, Walter and Lorie were able to work with a contractor to transform the space. A wall was removed to make room for a wheelin shower with benches, grab bars were installed, and the vanity and fixtures were relocated.
“ I just slide into the shower now,” said Walter. “I feel safer and no longer dread trying to wash myself. What was previously a dangerous chore for me is now a welcome treat.” Walter and Lorie hope to spend the rest of their lives in their home. The HAFI program provides financial assistance to help eligible low-income seniors and people with disabilities adapt their homes so they can continue to live independently.

Annual passage across the Passage returns
All manner of human-powered watercraft will make the trip across Discovery Passage between Campbell River (left) and a welcome at Cape Mudge (right).
Its time once again for the Discovery Passage Passage. Aug. 16 is a once-ayear opportunity for Campbell Riverites and visitors to challenge the great Discovery Passage. This is the eighth year of this annual event, paddling from Campbell River to Cape Mudge village in all manner of human-powered watercraft. Challenge yourself on our tidal waters and meet our Cape Mudge Village neighbours in a traditional welcome ceremony. Once again, the Coast Guard and Campbell River yacht club will be on hand to maintain safety. This is a free and family-oriented event. The rules are simple; no
fees, no prizes and no motors and you must wear a personal safety device. If you live here, this is an essential local experience. If you are a visitor, this is an opportunity to participate in a fun event with historic roots. Thousands of years after man crossed the Bering Sea Land Bridge, the Pacific Coast was the route of the southward migration to inhabit North America. What we now call Discovery Passage was certainly part of that southward migration route. First Nations traveled this route for thousands of years before Captains Cook and Vancouver sailed here. Long before the first settlement by
Europeans on Vancouver Island, people crossed from Quadra to the big island to fish the abundant waters of what we now call the Campbell River. The Discovery Passage is part of an ancient historical trade and explo-
ration route. It wasn’t untill 1960 that the vessel Quadra Queen began ferry service. To participate, register online at the Discovery Passage Passage website which is incampbellriver.net or call 250830-4056 for more

The annual River City Arts Festival descended on downtown Campbell River last Saturday. Pictured clockwise from below, a unique exhibit of Yard Birdz Garden Art was on display in Spirit Square. The Yee Haw line dancers, sponsored by the Seniors’ Society, strut their stuff along Shoppers Row. Artist Sheran MacLaren is looking pretty among her acrylic paintings. Amero plays music with heart
S
aturday, Aug. 16 is the date for Campbell River’s first annual music festival – Rockin’ The Island. With 10 All-Canadian bands and artists performing, this year’s talent will deliver an incredible show that all ages will enjoy. One of this year’s festival artists will be Don Amero. While a lot has happened for Amero in a short time, it actually was a long road for him to get where he is now. From the notoriously tough North End of Winnipeg, Amero faced his share of adversity growing up. With poverty, gangs, drugs and violence all around, fortunately, his life was tempered by love, support, and faith. Amero’s desire to take a shot at music was ignited with the surprise success of his debut album – fittingly called Change Your Life. Released in the fall of 2006, the single Freight Train reached #1 on the National Aboriginal Countdown. In 2009, Amero’s second album Deepening saw two more singles – I’m Just Me and She – climb to #1 on the National Aboriginal Countdown. Deepening earned him Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards, Male Artist of the Year at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.
MEET THE ARTISTS
Don Amero Amero’s third album The Long Way Home was released in the fall of 2010, receiving rave reviews from media and fans alike. In 2011, The Long Way Home was named Aboriginal Recording of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, where he performed at the awards show. The album won Best Folk Recording at the 2011 Native American Music Awards and Best Country Single at the 2012 Indian Summer Music Awards (ISMA)
in Milwaukee. Amero won Male Entertainer of the Year at the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMA). Heart On My Sleeve is Amero’s fourth album, and a self‐produced labour of love. He proudly calls it his most personal album to date. This album was nominated for Aboriginal Album of the Year at the 2013 JUNO Awards. It won Aboriginal Album of the Year at the 2013 Western Canadian Music Awards in Calgary, Best Country

Campbell River
Fishing Corner The Campbell River is full of pink salmon and anglers are after this little salmon that provides sporting fun on light tackle.
This week I was fishing beside an angler who was from Ladysmith. He stated that he caught 2 pinks at the mouth of the Campbell River and he was checking things out in the other pools. His partner was fishing in waist high water and as we watched he stated that not too many rods are being bent. On the fly he showed me a pattern called a salmon candy that was about a size 8 hook with epoxy body and short pink tail. When the pinks come in from the saltwater it may take a few days for them to take a fly but when the bite is on, almost any fly that is getting to the zone will catch fish. In Campbell River most fly action is between the 2 bridges and other spots are the old alder pool, and most locals will fish at the old logging bridge.

were fishing a pool and someone from one of the houses yelled out that a dog was in the river and was floating close to one of the fishermen. What appeared to be a small dog turned out to be a dead chicken floating down the Campbell River.
At the pink salmon festival more than 400 servings were offered to the public at Robert Ostler Park. The pink salmon were served up smoked and barbequed. I try to use fresh pinks right away as freezing them just doesn’t work. If you catch a pink and want to use it I suggest bleeding the fish, cleaning it and putting it on ice.

crying but families are out fishing the pools and trying to land a pink and many fish are caught and possibly snagged. The shoreline will be lined with anglers standing shoulder to shoulder and at times lines get tangled and fun when things are getting sorted out. Last Tuesday while fishing in late afternoon, a number of anglers

CAMPBELL RIVER MIRROR
The owner of an empty lot on the corner of Niluht Road and Alder Street wants to build a housing complex on property that borders the new École Mer-etmontagne school. Steve Lindsay, at the July 22 council meeting, said he intends to build a strata complex and asked council to rezone
the .71 hectare property to accommodate single family residential homes. “The rezoning application is for 14 strata residential units, primarily geared towards an older population,” Lindsay said. “The average size would be 1,500 square feet, so fairly modest. We want to create a series of houses that take advantage of the views.” Lindsay said he intends to stagger the units so
that every home has a view. The property on which the homes will be built is divided by a cement walkway and bike path that connects Niluht to the field behind École Mer-et-montagne. Lindsay said he has come to an agreement with B.C.’s Conseil scolaire francophone to remove that walkway which joins the two properties. Chris Osborne, the
city’s planner, said city staff are supportive of the building application and feel it meets the criteria of the city’s official community plan (OCP). “The proposed zoning amendment would be consistent with the OCP and would likely not have any significant adverse impact on neighbouring properties,” Osborne wrote in a report to council. Lindsay himself told
council the development is in line with council’s objective of encouraging infill in residential neighbourhoods. Osborne said Lindsay’s building plans strike “a reasonable balance between making effective use of land, and maintaining an appropriate character and density for the South Alder neighbourhood.” The site is not subject to any environmental requirements.

WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE!? COMMUNITY UPDATE AUGUST 1ST, 2014
301 St. Ann’s Road, Campbell River, BC V9W 4C7 Telephone: 250-286-5700 info@campbellriver.ca www.campbellriver.ca
When you stop and reflect on our quality of life here in Campbell River, we all must admit we are extremely fortunate. Our City is a jewel set into the gorgeous coastline of Vancouver Island. Visitors from around the world remark on the beauty of our landscape and the richness of our ocean. However, all of our surroundings require care and stewardship to flourish. With much of our local industry and tourism being based on this natural splendor, it is absolutely vital that we maintain the health of our land and water.
7x11
Every summer, our community experiences heavy water-demand issues. While it does seem the lake chain is brimming with the glacial run-off we so enjoy, the City infrastructure is unable to disinfect a sufficient volume of water to meet the demand initiated by elevated temperatures and summer activities. Earlier this month the City enacted a watering ban as its ability to respond to fires and disasters was being compromised by household water users. The largest culprit for water usage in the summer is irrigation. Sprinkler systems can use hundreds - if not thousands - of litres per day, and they are often overused in an effort to keep lawns green throughout the summer. Contrary to popular belief, only a small amount of water is required to maintain a healthy lawn (as little as 1 inch per week!), and the best way to keep it fresh and luscious is to raise your lawnmower blade to 3 inches. Respect Your Neighbours! Don’t make excessive noise outside permitted hours: Mon – Sat 7:00am – 10:00pm or Sunday and Statutory holidays 8:00am – 10:00pm. Come in to City Hall and talk with the staff about your project or call us at 250-286-5700. More information is available online at www.campbellriver.ca.
For questions on how you can reduce your water impact and help contribute to a more sustainable Campbell River, please visit www.campbellriver.ca or contact our water team at 250-203-2316 or water.wise@campbellriver.ca

HOLLOWAY, David “Glenn
October 4, 1944 – July 18, 2014
In loving memory
Glenn died peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family, after a 9 month battle with cancer. Born and raised in Victoria, Glenn and his family moved to Campbell River in 1974 where he opened the accounting firm of Holloway and Co. His kindness and compassion led Glenn to volunteer for many years with Home Support and later the Hospice Society. Glenn always felt so fortunate to be living in such a beautiful part of the world and spent many hours sailing, biking, cross country skiing and RVing with his family. Friends and family will truly miss Glenn’s wonderful sense of humour. He leaves to miss him so very much, his wife Lyn, his son Paul and daughter Lee (Dale), and wonderful grandson Alex; his cousin in Victoria, Barb Elliot and niece in Kelowna, Lisa Gerber. Also his parents-in-law Mil and Fred Tupper and brother and sister-in-law, Gord and Sue Tupper. Glenn is predeceased by his parents, Ted and Elspeth and sister Gail. The Holloway family would like to thank Home Care nurses, Barb and Marlene, and Hospice for all their help and kindness. And to our many wonderful friends who helped and supported us through Glenn’s illness, our heartfelt thanks. Glenn always said how lucky we were to have such good friends. For those who wish, donations may be made in Glenn’s name to the Campbell River Hospice Society. A celebration of Glenn’s life will be held at Painter’s Lodge in the Granny Painter Room, August 9, 2014 at 1:00 PM.
