Service levels to increase in new Snow and Ice policy STUART FULLARTON SYLVAN LAKE NEWS
Sylvan Lake Town Council has approved a new Snow and Ice Control policy that will see service levels increased significantly starting this winter. A new priority level ‘C’ has been
added for the provision of snow removal from minor collector roads when compacted snow is in excess of 15 centimetres. Those roads include streets connecting cul-de-sacs, closes and other roads to major collector roads. As well, ‘trigger’ points for priorities ‘A’ and ‘B’ — for arterial roads and community-wide connectors, and industrial and major collector roads,

respectively — have been lowered. Priority ‘A’ roads will see removal take place when loose snow exceeds eight centimetres, or when compacted snow exceeds five. Removal will take place on priority ‘B’ roads when loose or compacted snow exceeds eight centimetres. Town communications officer Joanne Gaudet said the changes will benefit town residents when higherthan-average snowfall is received, as was the case last winter when it prompted swift action from the Town. “A lot of people were really understanding about it, being that you can only budget for what is typical and you can only do what is within your range as far as the number of employees and the type of equipment that you have,” she said. “We did react literally the day of the major snowfall ... we were pretty pleased with the results. “Certainly the snow kept coming after that, so this (policy) is a result of that.”
The trigger point for priority ‘D’ roads, which include all local roads remaining, has been decreased to 50 centimetres from around 70. That means residential streets could be cleared roughly 1.5 times a year — an increase from the previous 0.9 average. Those same roads could be cleared even quicker, however, when “a single snow event exceeds 30 centimetres, and after priority ‘A,’ ‘B’ and ‘C’ routes have been maintained to an acceptable standard,” the policy states. “If it happens and it’s 30 centimetres all at once, we’re going out there,” said Gaudet. The new policy, she added, will help minimize any negative impacts on the town that may result from heavy snowfall. “Now that these numbers are here, we’re committing to clear, even if it is overtime,” she said. “There’s nobody panicking about how much snow is falling.”

public’s safety, and to protect public property. In another matter, Town Council also recently approved a schematic design for the soon-to-bebuilt NexSource Centre. The option chosen came with a $1.6 million project budget increase, after Council was forced to re-evaluate the project’s scope due to financial constraints. With several options presented, the one chosen sees a reduction in lobby/circulation space. To accommodate the budget increase, Council will review capital spending in other areas to determine which, if any, may be revised or delayed without any negative impact.
One of several snow and ice-related policies recently approved by Town Council, a new Snow Load Inspection policy has been put in place to mitigate risks posed by excessive snow loading. Snow load evaluations will be carried out prior to the end of the year by a contractor on buildings constructed before 1995. Those buildings will then be assessed every four years. Fifteen municipally-owned buildings fall within the evaluation criteria laid out by the policy. The Community Centre, Municipal Operations Building and Central Control Building are among them. The Town notes that improved standards in buildings constructed since 1994 have made snow load evaluations unnecessary on newer Our office will be closed on buildings. Like most parents, my daughter and her husband do not let their kids miss school for just any old thing. In fact, if their kids moan and groan and complain of the million and one things kids moan and groan and complain about just to get out of going to school, they can be pretty sure it won’t work. Their complaints will fall on deaf ears. But when my husband showed his grandson two tickets to the practice between Calgary Flames and the Arizona Coyotes that was happening in Sylvan Lake, and said, “Wanna go, Jackson?” — there were no questions asked, even though the event fell on a school day. In fact, I think they both forgot to even ask the parents. It was a given. He would go with his grandpa and that was that. I was so pleased to get the tickets. “I’ll give my ticket to you if I get drawn,” I told my son, an avid fan, whose entire basement is pretty much a shrine to the Calgary Flames. “Thanks, but chances of you even getting drawn are like finding a needle in a haystack,” he said, gently, but with that kind of I’m-smarterthan-you voice he sometimes uses on me. I said nothing, but like so many other Sylvan Lake hopefuls, trotted up the stairs in the multi purpose building, signed my name with a flourish and dropped it in the bin. “They won’t need identification,” I said confidently to my husband. “Everybody knows who I am.” Well, apparently they didn’t and I did, so it just goes to show you things change, time moves on. Years ago, I was a regular at the old arena. I was there at least once a week, my trusty Pentax 1000 in tow, standing in my familiar spot in the corner by the goalie, looking all hopeful that I would get the shot, the famous shot that would launch my career down some glorious awesome photography path. It never happened! However, I continued to take pictures, eventually converting to digital technology, which didn’t agree with the lights of the arena very well at all. But still I showed up, taking pictures, watching, even cheering for the home team before remembering I was supposed to be impartial. Over the years, the minor hockey players changed and moved on. Some went on to skate in bigger arenas; arenas where the lights were much brighter, the fans much louder and the stakes
much higher. I was proud of them all, and experienced a most memorable highpoint of my career, when I interviewed a young man by the name of Derek Morris the year he was first round draft pick of the Calgary Flames. Derek definitely made front-row headlines in our local paper and in our hearts that year. When the ticket list came out as to who had been drawn to go the big Kraft Hockeyville game, I checked and re-checked to see if my name or my husband’s name was on there, so I could prove my son wrong. Neither name was there. But then my husband phoned me and said, “Guess what. I got drawn for that game.” I figured I was wrong, his name was there, I just couldn’t see it, sort of like when I can’t see my glasses, but there they are right in front of me.
We spent about an hour in misplaced euphoria, before we realized his name was drawn for the practice, not the game. Upon that discovery, we remained euphoric, but slightly less so. Since that time, I’ve heard all about it. How Jackson got a puck which was tossed over the boards. How he didn’t get a hockey stick, though the kid right next to him did. How incredibly good the players were. How they had the best seats right at the front. I heard all about it and I was happy, not only for one grandpa who got to sit with his grandson and watch the big leagues play, but for the whole community. Kraft Hockeyville was a well-deserved win, but, realistically, it didn’t launch Sylvan Lake into the big leagues. The town was there already!

Stormy week halts harvesting. Rainfall nearly two-and-a-half inches. Between six and eight inches of snow Thursday. One of the worst September storms to hit the district for many years was experienced last week. Rain started to
fall on the night of the 15th and continued through the 20th. On the night of the 20th a heavy fall of wet snow blanketed the district, six to eight inches deep. Trees were brought down and branches broken. Telephone and light wires were broken and power service intermittently interrupted. Harvesting operations are at a standstill and not likely to be resumed until next week, even with fine weather. ♦ ♦ ♦ Sylvan Lake Veterans held a housewarming card party at their new hall Tuesday night in the form of a bridge and court whist party. Take Notice OPERATION: SAFE SIDE-WALKING! Ensuring a Safe and Accessible Community for All to Enjoy As the winter months approach, the Town of Sylvan Lake would like to remind all property owners and occupants of their responsibility to ensure that all sidewalks adjoining their property are completely free of all snow and ice. Pedestrian safety is of the utmost importance. Snow and ice left on sidewalks is extremely hazardous, especially for those who are disabled or who have limited mobility. Severe injuries and legal consequences can result from a mishap on a snow or ice covered sidewalk. Residential or commercial sidewalks left unmaintained also create difficulties for mail services, metre readers, delivery drivers, and emergency personnel. For this reason, the Town of Sylvan Lake Community Standards Bylaw (1592/2012) requires that all property owners and/or occupiers remove all snow and ice (clear down to bare pavement) on all public sidewalks next to their property, within 48 hours of any accumulation. Promptly removing snow prevents ice build-up which, over time, can become extremely hazardous and very difficult to remove. Both owners and occupiers are also required to keep their sidewalks safe and ice-free during freeze-thaw cycles. Again, punctually removing snow and ice (within 48 hours) plays a vital role in community health and safety. Sylvan Lake Municipal Enforcement will again commence with Operation: Safe Side-Walking, a program campaigning for diligent sidewalk maintenance and greater community health and safety. The Program aims toward stronger partnerships between citizens and the Town of Sylvan Lake to identify potentially hazardous snow and ice conditions on residential and commercial sidewalks. Using a teamwork approach, the Program enhances vigilance and encourages property owners to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property. This program offers an easy three-step method for identifying and effectively dealing with winter sidewalk safety concerns. Step 1: Identify and share your winter sidewalk safety concern with us by any one of the following methods: (1) Send us an email at safesidewalking@sylvanlake.ca, (2) Submit an Online Complaint by visiting www.sylvanlake.ca, (3) Call Municipal Enforcement at 403-858-7280, or (4) Send us your concern by regular mail to: Protective Services, c/o Sylvan Lake Municipal Enforcement, 4260 - 50th Street, Sylvan Lake, AB T4S- 0H3.
Town of Sylvan Lake
When sharing your concern, please be very specific. This will help Municipal Enforcement promptly locate and evaluate the issue, and prepare an appropriate enforcement response. Please be sure to include the specific commercial or residential sidewalk address or location, the business’s name (if applicable), a detailed description ofthe sidewalk condition, and the dates and durations of the condition, if known. Step 2: Upon receiving your sidewalk safety concern, Municipal Enforcement immediately creates a file and assigns an investigator. Our team then quickly plans and carries out a proactive, sensible enforcement response. Municipal Enforcement will work closely with property owners to encourage their civic duty to remove snow and ice from sidewalks, pursuant to the Community Standards Bylaw. The goal of Operation: Safe Sidewalks is public safety and bylaw compliance, not legal action. When requests, notices or warnings go ignored, or otherwise disregarded, Municipal Enforcement will initiate stronger remedy measures. Step 3: As soon as our investigation is complete, Municipal Enforcement will notify you of their actions and results. (Please note that Municipal Enforcement may contact you to appear as a witness, should the matter go to court). The Town’s General “Enforcement” Response The enforcement process may include any, all, or combination of the following: distributing bylaw information and/or educational pamphlets, engaging in discussions, issuing verbal notices, issuing various types of written warnings, Remedy Notices and, if necessary, Tags, Tickets, or Orders. This process varies from case to case, depending on the extent and degree of the circumstances, and the remedy response of the property owner or occupant: 1. Automatic Mail Notification (Mandatory): Once confirmed, all public complaints concerning problematic residential or commercial sidewalk are added to a Sidewalk Safety Notification List. Municipal Enforcement notifies all noncompliant property owners or occupants about the complaint by mail, requesting a timely remedy. Letters may include educational materials and awareness information. 2. Initial Verbal Notice: Municipal Enforcement may verbally notify the non-compliant residential or commercial property owner or occupant of the concern. A verbal notice is a firm, documented request for an immediate remedy. This step may also include providing education and awareness information. A Second Verbal Notice may also be issued. Municipal Enforcement may further remind the non-compliant residential or commercial property owner or occupant of the concern. This Notice is yet a stronger, documented reminder seeking an immediate remedy. Verbal Notices may be communicated by phone or in person. 3. Written Warning: Municipal Enforcement may issue the non-compliant residential or commercial property owner or occupant a written warning, is various forms, demanding immediate remedy. A written warning is documented and may be issued by mail or in person.
@Sylvan100
4. Charges: If any, all, or combination of the above steps fail to bring remedy, Municipal Enforcement will issue a Municipal Tag or Provincial Ticket to a non-compliant residential or commercial property owner or occupant, pursuant to the Sylvan Lake Community Standards Bylaw (1592/2012). Failure to comply with this Bylaw may result in the issuance of a $115.00 fine to the owner or occupant of the property, for each and every subsequent offence. (Municipal Enforcement may also issue an Order, allowing the Town to fix the problem and bill the property owner for the cost). Further information about this program is available by contacting Sylvan Lake Municipal Enforcement at 403.858.7280. *Note: Sylvan Lake residential property owners or occupiers can pick up free pails of sand and salt from Public Works for their use on sidewalks (Residents must supply their own pail). This service, however, is NOT available for commercial purposes.

Sylvan Lake celebrates Kraft Hockeyville triumph STUART FULLARTON SYLVAN LAKE NEWS
With Kraft Hockeyville celebrations having come and gone, Graham Parsons, like many Sylvan Lake residents this week, has been suffering from
what he calls “Hockeyville withdrawal.” But given the hugely successful manner in which last week’s events unfolded, it’s a state the Sylvan Lake Hockeyville organizing committee chair is more than willing to accept. “Personally, I was blown away by the magni-

tude of the show,” he said. “We saw it in bits and pieces in how the rink was being prepared, but game day, I thought, was spectacular. “You see all the activity, the professionalism, the cameras, the production, then all of a sudden, the people show up ... and it all hits home. The television coverage, the spectacular shots of the lake — how can you get any better than that?” Last Wednesday’s NHL pre-season game — one half of the town’s grand prize in the Kraft Hockeyville competition — saw the Calgary Flames defeat the Arizona Coyotes 4-3 thanks to a Curtis Glencross overtime winner. And there were plenty of other on-ice highlights that took place both before the game and during its intervals. A $100,000 cheque for arena upgrades — the other half of the Hockeyville grand prize — was presented by Jack Hewitt of Kraft Canada to Parsons, his fellow committee member Steve Dills, and Sylvan Lake mayor Sean McIntyre. Parsons was also presented the official Hockeyville trophy and sweater, which he’ll eventually pass on to next year’s winner. It was all part of a fun-filled day that marked what Parsons feels was

an ideal end to the town’s Hockeyville journey. “People are so appreciative, and it was fun,” he said, adding from an organizational perspective, it was “hard work, but it was a labour of love.” But the event’s success wasn’t just down to the hard working committee members, he assured. Rather, there are plenty of people who have gone unmentioned over the past several months that deserve just as much credit, he said. “We’re proud of the stuff we did, but there’s other people to thank, and that’s everybody,” he said. “There were over 300 volunteers that don’t get the recognition that we get, and there’s a whole community out there that bought in, and we thank them and all the people that voted and showed their support from all over the place, and didn’t get to participate. “We wish everybody could have been in the rink, but people understood, and that was tremendous.” Not everyone needed to be inside to have fun, however. Some who were offered tickets to the game instead chose to remain outside at the viewing party, where they enjoyed musical entertainment by St. James’ Gate and watched the game on a large screen. A morning red carpet arrival by both teams gave local youngsters the chance to meet their hockey heroes — some of whom visited Sylvan Lake schools in the afternoon. CBC personalities Ron MacLean and Don Cherry made an on-ice appearance during the first period intermission, and spoke of their delight at being in Sylvan Lake. “This is Canada,” said Cherry. Rev. John Yoos of Sylvan Lake dropped the ceremonial first puck before dancing his way off the ice — an act that seemed to embody the jubilation felt all around town last week. That, according to Jack Hewitt of Kraft Canada, is what Kraft Hockeyville is all about. Continued on page 9

Kraft Hockeyville triumph Continued from page 8 “(Sylvan Lake) represents the spirit of Hockeyville over and over,” he said. “It’s all about rebuilding the future of hockey, and keeping the spirit of the game that has been in this community for a long time, whether it’s through the hockey schools or whether it’s through the locals that play either at the major junior level or in the NHL. That’s what you want to see.” Hewitt added the Sylvan Lake Hockeyville committee had been “outstanding to work with,” and commended them on their hard work in the days, weeks and months leading up to the event. “It’s a lot of work, and I’m not sure everybody in the community sees all the work that they do,” he said. “It’s getting all the nominations together, it’s getting the stories together, it’s rallying the vote, and then once you win, then the work really begins. “All of the Hockeyvilles do an outstanding job, and every year it gets better and better, and that’s a tribute to Graham (Parsons) and his team.”

An Outdoor Ice Inspection and Maintenance policy ensuring the safety of the town’s outdoor rinks and lake ice surfaces has received Council’s stamp of approval. The aim of the policy, according to a council report, is to mitigate “the risk of injury to outdoor rink users while providing a standard for rink maintenance (and) establishing criteria for lake surface town-sanctioned public events.” The policy states that snow will be cleared from rinks following five centimetres of accumulation, and that public events on the lake rink will be permitted only after an ice surface evaluation has been completed. Additionally, rinks and the Pier toboggan hill will undergo weekly safety inspections, and there will no longer be rinks constructed on storm retention ponds, such as the one in Lakeway Landing. Town communications officer Joanne Gaudet said the policy is believed to be unique to the Town after administration found none to exist in other municipalities around the province. “From what we were able to determine, we are the only community with a policy like this,” she said. “We did look to other com-
munities to see if they could pave the way for us, and no such policy exists that we could find.” Town administration notes that ideas will be gathered from other municipalities as they begin to create their own similar policies. Those ideas will likely be put to a future council. With co-operative weather, the Town typically constructs two lake surface rinks, five land rinks, a lake surface parking lot and a toboggan hill. Snow last year prevented the lake surface from freezing properly, resulting in an environment that was deemed unsafe for activity. The Town said that it has developed a method of testing ice safety on the lake surface, which will be carried out prior to the surface’s use. That method involves everything from measuring ice thickness to inspecting its colour and any cracks that may be present. The policy’s approval means lake surface rinks might not appear before Christmas Day. Administration said that the Town and the Province will work to construct a rink at the Pier before then, if weather allows them to do so.

SMOKE ALARMS OCTOBER 5 – 11, 2014 CLIFF BRAUSEN Fire Chief, Sylvan Lake Fire Department When was the last time you tested the smoke alarms in your home? Was it last week? Last month? A year ago? If you’re like many people, you may not even remember. Smoke alarms have become such a common feature of Canadian households that they’re often taken for granted, and aren’t tested and maintained as they should. However, working smoke alarms are a critical fire safety tool that can mean the difference between life and death in a home fire. According to the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), smoke alarms can cut the chance of dying in a home fire in half. Meanwhile, NFPA data shows that home fires killed more than 2,300 people in 2012; many of these deaths could have been prevented with the proper smoke alarm protection. As a member of the fire service for 20 plus years, I’ve seen the devastating effects of fire first-hand; the burn injuries, the loss of homes and possessions are distressing. What’s even worse is witnessing a family’s anguish after a loved one has been killed in a fire. It’s heartbreaking. As the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week, October 5-11, 2014, NFPA is promoting “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!” to better educate the public about the true value of working smoke alarms. In support of these efforts, Sylvan Lake Fire Department will be hosting local campaign activities throughout the week.
My sincere hope is that all Sylvan Lake residents participate in one or more of our Fire Prevention Week activities, and make sure there are working smoke alarms installed throughout their homes. These simple steps can help make a life-saving difference, and prevent the potentially life-threatening impact of fire. Here are additional smoke alarm tips to follow: • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement. • Interconnect all smoke alarms throughout the home. When one sounds, they all sound.

We all appreciate your 24/7 service to our community!
• Test alarms each month by pushing the test button. • Replace all smoke alarms, including alarms that use 10-year batteries and hard-wired alarms, when they are 10 year old or sooner if they do not respond properly. • Make sure everyone in the home knows the sound and understands what to do when they hear the smoke alarm. To learn more about the “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!” campaign, visit NFPA’s Web site at www. firepreventionweek.org.

A Makerspace is a place where people come together to create, usually using technology. A phenomenon that is sweeping the continent, it is being embraced as a way to promote innovation in society. The Whitehouse hosted a Maker Faire this past summer showcasing this ‘maker’ philosophy. Libraries, being places for community engagement, have begun to develop spaces and activities to teach and empower patrons. These spaces are called Makerspaces. Edmonton Public Library has developed an amazing Makerspace at the Stanley A. Milner Library featuring 3D printers, a green screen, gaming consoles and creative workstations.
Sylvan Lake Library welcomed its first ‘maker’ program on Sept. 20 when participants dove into electricity with Snap Circuit Wizardry. Electricity was explored by using Snap Circuits kits to make flying saucers, motion detectors and water clocks. The second Makerspace program that will be hosted by the library is Robotic Engineering with Lego, which takes place Saturday, Nov. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. Using motors and sensors to interface with NXT bricks, and software programs to control the motors, participants, aged nine and up, will be teamed up and given open-ended challenges. These are free events but do require registration as they have limited enrolment. For more information, call 403-887-2130.

Lakers prove too strong for Broncs JACKIE LAROCQUE SPECIAL TO SYLVAN LAKE NEWS
ence. The ball got juggled, tossed and popped around giving Tristan Koller and Ryan Arnold some experience in a game setting where the defence does want to pummel you. Rydan Thomas made some spectacular tackles diving at Ponoka and refused to let go until they succumbed into the ground. Kyle Eckenswiller made the field look like a smash up derby as he collided into Ponoka. Tyrese Hamilton snagged the pass and sprinted for the line, but got spun out of control by Ponoka. Tyrese wound up with 34 rushing yards this game. Neither team managed to cruise over the line for a touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Ponoka really put on the pressure to get onto the score board. Michael Smyth got a good taste of what it feels like to be the one player the other team wants to drill into the ground. He met the challenge and threw some excellent passes proving that he is an up-and-coming quarterback. In the end though, Ponoka was able to make two touchdowns, ending the game with a final score of 42-12 for the Lakers. Coach Jeremy Braitenback was pleased that the boys were able to get a good lead in the first half. This allowed him to use the players that often don’t get much experience during a real game setting. Parents, if you want to see where your teenage daughters are, be at the football field behind HJ Cody on Friday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m., where the Lakers will challenge Stettler.
Sept. 27 was a balmy autumn day at the football field behind HJ Cody High School where the Lakers took on the Ponoka Broncs football team in the third league game this year. The first quarter was fraught with head butting, shoves and tackles as each team tested the other’s strengths and weaknesses. Skylar Selk, using his quarterback wits, enabled Landon Rosene to bolt over Ponoka’s line twice for two touchdowns. Michael Smyth dug in for 36-yard touchdown, and Chase Elwood trotted eight yards for yet another touchdown. Seth Blagen then sealed the deals, attaining the extra point conversion on each touchdown. The Laker defence tackled and blocked Ponoka, making it impossible for them to score any touchdowns. The second quarter started with the Lakers leading 28-0, and what a quarter. Ponoka couldn’t get anywhere on the Lakers’ defence. Carter Theriault was smashing receivers so the sound of clashing equipment was reverberating off the school. Sulley Larocque was like an annoying mosquito diving and bringing any Bronc with a ball into the ground. Matthew Bossert was perfecting his sandwich move and wrapped up a few Broncs trying to get away. And don’t think the rest of the defence was idly standing by; dog piles galore flattened Ponoka’s ball runners throughout the quarter. Kyle Eckenswiller snagged an interception to bring the NOTICE OF DEVELOPMENT offensive onto the NOTICE is hereby given that the field. Recent Harper cartoon quips uncalled for
Dear Editor, As the former Editor of the Calgary Sun for many years in all modesty — at least what modesty I have! — I think I know a bit about good newspapers. I read the Sylvan Lake News each week from the first page to the last page and it surely does cover the events, issues and personalities in our community
extremely well. It is a credit to our town. But just two good-natured quibbles: Your cartoonist repeatedly mocks in savage and vicious fashion Prime Minister Stephen Harper. One caption this past week described Harper as a “clueless” individual running our country.
Harper is an Albertan and one never mocks the local boy who made good. Alberta has produced just three prime ministers: R.B. Bennett, who served just one term in the 1930s before being defeated; Joe Clark, who lasted just a handful or so of months before being defeated, and Harper who has won three straight elections — a rare occurrence in Canada. I am surprised that no one in authority at the Sylvan Lake News has called a halt to this cartoonist’s diatribes and found placement who can, at least, mock our politicians in an amusing manner. My second quibble regards the column “It’s time to include dental care in the healthcare system,” (Sept. 26). The reason no federal or provin-
cial government has taken this step is because already healthcare budgets are the biggest single expenditure decade after decade. They are, of course, necessary expenditures. To add dental care would would add another enormous expense that taxpayers would have to foot. Then I looked at the author of this to find he is the Dean in the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill University in Montreal. Obviously he has a blatant conflict of interest here, basically shilling for the nation’s dentists. To add to that, he is from Quebec, a province with an horrendous provincial debt. Surely, it would have been possible to at least get the views of the Dean of Dentistry at a university in Alberta to make this case. These quibbles made, I surely look forward to the Sylvan Lake News again each week. Paul Conrad Jackson, Sylvan Lake

Hockeyville spirit
Above: Staff of Alta-Wide Tim-Br Mart in Sylvan Lake showed their Kraft Hockeyville spirit by sporting Hockeyville T-shirts last week. Below: HJ Cody School student Makayla Beck presents a $685 cheque to Deb Garrity and Amy Komarniski of the Multiplex Redevelopment (NexSource Centre) Fundraising Committee on Monday. Beck raised the money with some of her fellow students who painted the windows of local businesses in Kraft Hockeyville colours in time for last week’s Hockeyville festivities. They collected donations and tips along the way. SUBMITTED PHOTOS
