ferment, making cider.” Roussin sees pressing unwanted fruit in the same way, but also as a way to take unusable fruit and get something good out of it. “In Rossland, as in Trail, there are all of these heritage fruit trees that don’t necessarily produce edible fruit, or not as aesthetically pleasing fruit, so it fulfills a huge goal in the community as to what to do with all that fruit,” she said, adding that pressing the fruit reduces waste. “Do you put the fruit in your compost? That’s not Bear Aware. Do you bring it to the local landfill? That is what the regional district suggests, but it isn’t exactly realistic to transport it all there and for some people, it isn’t an option. (Pressing) provides a re-

Pressing business: West Kootenay Advertiser

On a crisp October Saturday afternoon in Rossland, community members gathered with their apples to make some all-natural, freshlysqueezed juice Rossland Real Food and WildSafeBC have collaborated to host a community fruit pressing day with a press that has been around since most can remember. “It is kind of a bit of a mystery,” said Rachael Roussin, Rossland Real Food member and former BearAware coordinator, adding that the press seems indestructible. “This thing (the press) was meant to last through a nuclear war. It was passed to BearAware about a decade ago and pressing day has been around for about seven years and ever since,

There is so much good fruit in the area and this is a great way to use it all and appreciate locally grown fruit, it has been an annual event.” Maintaining the press, originally built at Teck by a Rossland resident many years ago, has been a community effort over the years, including an air conditioning businesses owner donating their time to replace the motor in the grinder. “Through the years, it has been Bear Aware and Rossland Real Food trying to maintain it and do minor upgrades, so for example, a new platform was built by the bear aware

program,” said Roussin. “It used to be a wooden base and Bear Aware did some research and had a new plastic base made for it. All of this is mostly donated. Community members who have their specialities have pitched in over the years to keep the press going and maintained well.” Apples, or other soft fruits without pits, are thrown into a grinder, cores, stems, leaves and all. The mulched apples, are put into the press, resembling a barrel. The press has a frame around it to provide resistance when pressing down on the mulched apples. Juice pours out of the bottom of the press and into a container through a strainer or sieve. This year’s community fruit pressing day was hosted at a private residence in Rossland, and hostess, Caley Mulholland says she was happy to host the press, and pressers, for the day. “There is so much good fruit in the area and this is a great way to use it all and appreciate locally grown fruit,” she said. “Some people leave it as juice and some people let it sit and

ally strong motivation to actually do something with all this fruit.” Sharon Wieder, from WildSafeBC, says the appreciation of local fruit is only one of the reasons the press is so useful within the community. “(Pressing) combines the harvest rescue effort with the Bear Aware philosophy of managing attractants,” she said. Roussin also sees pressing as a fun thing to do in the fall and get some freshly-squeezed apple juice out of it. “It takes all of this usually unusable fruit and makes it into this delicious juice,” she said. “We aren’t talking about a jug of juice, we are talking about 30 litres of apple juice with one press. Without the press, all this fruit would be wasted.” Roussin says the press doesn’t sit and collect dust for the rest of the year, but rather can be used by the public with appointments. To find out more about the press, call Wieder at WildSafeBC at 250231-2751.

News/Places Nelson cultural committee in for overhaul Greg Nesteroff West Kootenay Advertiser

The group tasked with developing Nelson’s cultural sector is getting a makeover. City council has approved a restructuring of the cultural development committee that will see certain seats filled by staff members of arts organizations rather than board members. It follows a cityinitiated exercise to explore greater collaboration by arts and culture groups, which identified several priorities including a shared marketing and advertising identity, creating a downtown culture hub, and an Edinburgh-style festival with “rich and varied” cultural activities on multiple stages. But achieving those goals required someone to spearhead them, said Joy Barrett, the city’s cultural development officer. A working group determined the cultural development committee was the only

existing body that could take it on, and forming a new “cultural table” would just hamper progress. “Rather than create another group that met every month parallel to what we were already doing, it made sense to keep the cultural development committee, but use the people on the ground doing the day-to-day work,” Barrett said. The working group agreed that since paid administrators are primarily responsible for planning and management, they have the most complete information about collaboration opportunities and the authority to assign staff or other resources. Until now the cultural development committee’s 11 voting members have included a city councillor, and one representative from each of Touchstones Nelson, the Capitol Theatre, Nelson and District Arts Council, Nelson and Area Eco-

nomic Development Partnership, and the city’s advisory planning commission, plus one member representing the preservation of heritage buildings and four atlarge members, with at least one from the business community. In some cases, staff members already represent their organizations on the committee. While Barrett said major players will continue to have designated seats, it has yet to be determined how the committee’s make-up will reflect other sectors that don’t have paid staff. She expected it to be a “mix of main players and reps from the literary arts or music community.” However, the committee’s overall size should remain about the same. The group also has standing committees, such as one devoted to public art, which bring in other people. Barrett said the idea was well received by city council and she expects the revamp

to take shape early in 2015. “It should be a smooth transition. Some people are going to be the same.” Cultural development committee chair Stephanie Fischer, who is also the executive director of the Capitol Theatre, believes the restructuring will “improve capacity for further development of the arts/heritage/cultural sector in Nelson.” By having administrators at the table, the committee will be able to move the goals in the cultural collaboration plan forward effectively and efficiently, she said. “Collaboration in marketing the sector, building capacity within organizations and groups, advocacy as well as continuing to build cultural infrastructure were identified as some of the issues which I think will help all organizations,” she said. Touchstones Nelson executive director Leah Best said the changes “make sense on a lot of levels.” Al-

side of Upper Arrow Lake south of Nakusp, between Birds Landing and West Demars, originally known as Forest Glen. According to Kate Johnson’s Pioneer Days of Nakusp and Arrow

Lakes, its name was inspired by pioneer Robert Glendenning (18471907). Another theory has it that Agnes Menzies (1878-1942) named Forest Glen after a place in Scotland about 192324.

Forest Glen school opened in 1929, but when the post office moved there from West Demars, it used the name Glendevon because there was already a Forest Glen post office in Nova Scotia.

though initially concerned about the time commitment, she’s been assured it will “create efficiencies that should make our desks less cluttered.” Best said it should result in more sustained partnerships. “Other than the library, we haven’t collaborated with other arts organizations and I’m looking forward to doing that.” Nelson and District Arts Council president Ron Robinson said his board also supports the restructuring. “People will change and some of the focus might change, but I think for everybody concerned it will be more efficient for marketing and sharing resources,” he said. “We’re quite excited.”

Coordinator ready to deliver youth entrepreneurship programs to Basin students

Starting this fall, students around the Basin will be benefiting from youth entrepreneurship programs and financial literacy within their classrooms. The programs are run by Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC), which is pleased to welcome Amy Robillard as Program Coordinator in the Basin. In order to deliver these programs, JABC is seeking volunteers from the Basin community to visit classrooms and deliver programs on work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy to students in grades 5 to 12. Programs are delivered at the invitation of host teachers and are facilitated by local business people who bring their experience and expertise into the classroom. Volunteers may be entrepreneurs or anyone working in or studying business or finance, and they will receive training and all materials required to deliver a lesson. JABC is able to offer these programs at no charge to schools across the province because of the commitment of volunteers and generous donations from JABC’s supporters. “JABC has seen success in merging community business volunteers with students. I am honoured to be a part of this wonderful organization and look forward to bringing together the Basin’s talented volunteers with our area’s students,” said Robillard. “With the help of our business community, JABC programs will bring invaluable outcomes that will shape our leaders of tomorrow.” Robillard believes access and opportunities for youth are vital to a community. As a former local entrepreneur and owner of Little Miss Gelato, she has delivered workshops and worked closely with businesses in the region. JABC’s expansion into the Basin was made

possible this year thanks to a three-year partnership with Columbia Basin Trust. The Trust supports efforts to deliver social, economic and environmental benefits to Basin residents.

Hidden side of Kaslo city hall re-emerges GREG NESTEROFF West Kootenay Advertiser

Exterior restoration continues on Kaslo’s city hall, built in 1898, including the north side of the building which until last month was hidden by the fire hall, built in the 1970s. The fire hall’s demolition revealed some city hall windows that have long been covered up. No firm decision has been made for the future of the space where the fire hall stood – the village is welcoming suggestions from the public. village says it’s only the first step in revitalizing the national historic site. “Subsequent interior and other essential works to make it a functional public building and space will continue to

require funding and community support in the years to come,” the village said in a newsletter. A grand opening for the new fire hall, next to the arena, is planned for Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Arrow Lakes News of March 12, 1931 announced: “A new post office will be opened up at Forest Glen … under the name of Glendevon … With the opening …  the name Forest Glen will be a thing of the past.” The post office closed in 1942, along with the school, which was still named Forest Glen. GRAHAM LANDING This settlement in the Columbia River Narrows opposite and a little north of Burton was named for Alexander James Graham (18671943), who had a farm and small sawmill there. According to Milton

Parent in Port of Nakusp, Graham moved there with his wife Margaret and daughter Lillian late in 1903. Graham Creek was also named after them. Lillian is absent from the 1911 census, but by that time another daughter, Beatrice, had been born. Graham Landing then boasted a population of 42. The post office opened on June 1 that year with Graham as postmaster. He held the job until 1943, when Beatrice took over. The office closed in 1949. What remained of the community by the 1960s was a casualty of the Keenleyside dam.

Drive What you can’t see is the 317 kgs that the ‘15 F-series has lost, thanks to that aluminum body and the increased use of high-strength steel in the frame – but, you can certainly feel it while driving. The truck is nimbler, has less wash in the corners and simply handles better. The cab is virtually silent and for comfort, the HVAC is split side-toside, front and rear. The hood and side windows have dropped in profile for better visibility, while the size, colours and quality of the computer generated gauges and controls simplifies operation while driving. I towed with the new truck and its manners are good if not improved. In part, this is assisted by the long list of towing features like trailer sway control; tow/haul mode; Dynamic Hitch Assist, SelectShift transmission and better tow mirrors. Off-road an electronic manual rear

differential locker has been added. This truck churns mud better than ever. Verdict Payload is up (to 900 kgs) and so is towing (approx. 5.5 tonnes) yet overall body weight is down by 317 kgs. Ford offers four engines and even the smallest 2.7L EcoBoost will still tow up to 3.8 tonnes. The cab is quieter, yet larger. The floor is flat yet has more storage compartments. The dash is less cluttered yet offers more information. Do you sense a theme here? Consider that the design phase of this truck took four years and the testing was the most intense ever. The result? A list of improvements a hockey rink long – that’s a fact. Now, how will they all work together? Well Ford’s claims will have to play out on roads, across Canada, in the coming years. But from what I’ve seen in Texas, I’d say Giddy Up!

Families who dirt bike together are totally together By Alexandra Straub

With the distractions of technology, smartphones, television programming, life, video games and more, it can be tough to find an activity in which the whole family can participate let alone enjoy. Age differences between children, gender, and general interests can vary greatly. My brother and I couldn’t be more opposite. Rest assured, there is hope and some of it comes in the form of two wheels. Scott Ponuick, marketing

and promotions manager at Popkum Motor Park, in Rosedale, raced snowmobiles and ATVs as a child. And he road raced for many years of his life. He also grew up around the racetrack as his father raced stock cars. You could say motor oil runs through his veins and that motor oil has since been passed to his family. He mentions: “Before we had kids, I bought Christine (his wife) a bike; a Honda XR 86,” since she showed interest in the sport. For all the time that Chris-

tine cheered on her husband, it was time for her to get in her own saddle. He fixed it up and it ran like new. She loved it. She explains: “It was fun watching him, but I’d rather be out there too!” Not too long after that, Christine became pregnant with their first child. “Before she (Taylor) was even born, we started talking about what bike we should get her and getting gear ready for her for when she was old enough,” Christine says. By the time Taylor was two years old she was on two wheels. With training wheels, of course. Then again, you could argue that she was on two wheels much before then because the only way she’d fall asleep as a baby was when her dad would ride her around the back yard in a harness. “She always wanted to

Families who dirt bike together continued from page B2

At home, the kids are on Oset electric trials bikes. They don’t make any noise so they can play in the back yard until the batteries run out! There’s also a “throttle” modulator that makes sure the kids can’t get themselves into too much trouble. Scott and Christine consider themselves very lucky because everyone in the family loves to get out onto the trails, even if they aren’t moving very quickly!

“It’s so cool to see Taylor and Chase progress,” says Scott. Even though Scott’s employment brings him to Popkum Motor Park weekly, he said that he’d still take the kids on dirt bikes regardless. “It’s such a great way to build motor skills, coordination, a love of the outdoors and you just create so many memories together.” He talks about the families who come out to the Park. Moms, dads, and kids alike take to the track. “There’s one family that

comes to mind… I’ve watched the kids grow up over the last 12 years. For example, the dad and daughter will show up, and then they’ll turn laps together. And then they pull over and chat about their laps and the things they can work on.” Christine comments: “You value time together more when you’re all doing something that you all love. As a full-time working mom, I’m so grateful we have riding as a common bond.” Some might be concerned

about safety when it comes to speed and kids. But like any other sport, with the proper equipment, training and supervision, dirt biking is quite safe. And did I mention fun? “I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day,” Christine remarks. For more information on getting your kids (or yourself!) on two wheels, visit www.popkummotorpark. com alexandra.straub@drivewaybc.ca

City of light shines brightly on dream machines By Zack Spencer

Paris, France – The Paris Auto Show is one of those must-visit events for those of us charged with reporting on the latest and greatest new vehicles. So many manufacturers now develop products for a world market so these early European shows often offer a glimpse of what’s coming next to our shores. Here are five machines that caught my eye. Lamborghini Asterion Let’s start with a dream machine. The Lamborghini Asterion concept car was certainly a showstopper. Sidestepping the current design approach of angular shapes with hard edges, this new Lambo has a more curvaceous look that almost mimics a front engine car. What is wedged in the middle of this exotic is a hybrid system that marries a naturally aspirated 5.2L V10 engine with three electric mo-

tors (Two in the front producing all wheel drive and another in the transmission for full electric drive capability), producing a whopping 910hp with acceleration that will see this car run to 100km in just three seconds. The Asterion is capable of running on just electric power for roughly 30km and, providing silent driving in a wickedly sexy machine. This is a just a concept at this point but with mounting pressure on car makers to reduce carbon output and the fact the Porsche brand (Another VW Group brand) already has the 918 hybrid, this looks like it could make it to market within the next few years. VW Golf Alltrack Ok, now back to earth. With the trend towards all-wheel-drive (AWD) gaining more and more momentum it was only a matter of time before cars previously without AWD start to appear with this option. Take the popular VW Golf wagon, soon to be available in Europe with AWD and a slightly

higher ground clearance. Called the Alltrack, this more rugged looking and capable VW will certainly appeal to buyers of the Subaru Outback or Audi Allroad. In North America, we don’t buy many wagons but we certainly love when manufacturers add a slightly higher ride-height, lower body cladding plus AWD and call them a crossover vehicle. Sales jump. Not available in Canada but after chatting with VW Canada executives, they have put in a request to Germany to get this car for our AWDloving climate. Stay tuned. Toyota i-Road Imagine a pure electric, three-wheel, scooter-like vehicle, with a fixed roof, steering wheel and can drive up to 45km/h with 50km of electric range. The Toyota i-Road attracted big crowds when it was demonstrated at this year’s Paris Show. The small wheel at the rear of the i-Road pivots at low speed for amazing maneuverability, plus when driven at

higher speeds the entire vehicle tilts over like a motorcycle with the front wheels rotating independently of each other. It looks odd and must feel odd to drive but the upside is covered driving, without a helmet, and emissions free transportation. The iRoad is being tested in Japan and will be used in the French city of Grenoble as part of a vehiclesharing program. This type of vehicle already exists in Europe but the tilting and pivoting elements make it unique. This would not be popular on our wider roads in North America but the i-Road will fit right in on Europe’s busy streets. Fiat 500X The Chrysler Groups’ parent company Fiat is at it again, taking the best that its European brands have to offer and marrying them with American brands. The Fiat 500L has had a mild reception here in North America so now they have taken the same platform and produced the Jeep Renegade.

City of light shines brightly on dream machines continued from page B4

To complete the circle, the same Renegade approach is being used with this Fiat 500X, basically, taking the same Jeep-like elements and making them into a Fiat. The 500X will be available with front wheel drive (FWD) or AWD and a variety of engine and transmission options in Europe. The engine choices have not been divulged for our market but expect to see the 170hp 1.4 turbo 4-cylinder and the 184hp 2.4L 4-cylinder engines here. The Fiat 500L has not been a hit for Fiat but, yet again, add a more rugged look and the sales will likely follow. Volvo XC90 Will the introduction of an all-new, full-size XC90 SUV be enough to save Volvo here in North America? Time will tell but the crowds at the Volvo stand in Paris were packed with people combing over every pert of this attractive SUV. It has been over ten years since Volvo introduced the original XC90 and the years have not been good to this vehicle or the brand. Sales for the XC90 and Volvo in general have been pathetic in North America. This new XC90 has a lot going for it and Volvo hopes it will help revive the brand. The XC90 will be sold in Canada with AWD in the T6 or T8 engine variants. Both are turbocharged and supercharged and are matched to an 8-speed automatic. The T6 has 320hp and the T8 comes with an additional 80hp electric motor for improved power and efficiency. The three-row design remains intact but the interior is larger for more space. The dash is a standout with a vertical iPad-like application in the centre for class-leading connectivity and usability. The price of the T6 will start at $60,700 and the T8 will start at $73,400. Kia has an Electric Soul

By Bob McHugh

Kia joins the growing list of electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers with Soul EV, a clever adaptation of its tall 5-door compact with the funky styling. Although still a small slice of the overall car market, EV sales are growing rapidly and so is the public charge station infrastructure that’s crucial to its success, especially in urban areas. A digital readout showed 187 km of driving range available as we headed out on a test loop around Metro Vancouver. And after about 30 minutes of, no special treatment, driving with frequent stops, starts, hill climbs and descents, the Soul EV showed 162 km was still available. That’s relevant, as the Soul EV’s officially rated driving

range is 149 km. In addition to being quiet and fuel-free, Soul EV effectively matches the practical user features of its gasoline counterpart. It can seat 4 to 5 passengers and has the same large rear cargo area. Kia’s polymer (electrolyte) lithium ion battery pack is compact and easier to hide than others, as is can be molded into different shapes. In Soul EV it’s centrally fitted under the seats and a raised rear floor pan. The gasoline engine is replaced by a 109 horsepower liquid-cooled AC synchronous permanent magnet electric motor that can generate a whopping 210 lb-ft of torque. That’s 59 lb-ft more than the 2.0-litre gasoline engine version of Soul. Standing starts were not as jumpy as other electric vehicles tend to be and the overall performance of

the electric drivetrain was impressively smooth. Charger ports for the battery pack are hidden behind a hinged cover in the front grille. The smaller port accepts either a 120 volt (level 1) or a 240 volt (level2) charge connector. A portable level 1 unit is stored in the vehicle and Kia Canada will also provide Soul EV buyers with a level 2 charge unit (made by Bosch) for home installation, free of charge. The charger unit can also be used to pre-heat or pre-cool the Soul EV, while plugged into the grid. You can also program it to start or complete charging at a certain time. The level 1 charger plugs into any electrical outlet, but can take up to 24-hours to fully recharge the battery pack. A level 2 charger (with 30 amp service) cuts the maximum recharge time to under 5-hours. And a level 3 fast charge

station can pump-in an 80 per cent charge in less than 30 minutes. We didn’t take it out on the freeway, but the Soul EV seemed very stable (it’s heavier then the gas engine Soul) and Kia claims a top speed of 145 km/hour. Kia also claims that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour faster (by 4 seconds) than a Nissan Leaf. It’s agile and peppy, with lots of initial get up and go, but it’s also no dragster. The two-tone gray interior theme came with attractive and contrasting blue stitching. Extensive use of biofriendly interior materials also makes Soul EV the most eco-friendly vehicle made by Kia. It feature materials derived from organic substances such as sugar cane, corn, cellulose, and wood powder.

Kia Soul ‘‘EVandThedefinitely rocks is a must-

drive for anyone considering an EV.

Bob McHugh

The base edition of Soul EV is very well equipped and even comes with dualzone climate control, voiceactivated navigation and a rear view camera. A leather wrapped steering wheel is heated and also has both tilt and telescopic features. Moving up to EV Luxury adds features like leather (synthetic) upholstery, a heat pump (enhances the climate control system), cooled and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. Soul EV is only available through selected Kia deal-

ers in major Canadian urban centres (Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver). Unlike Quebec and Ontario, however, BC’s incentive program for eco-friendly vehicles ran out of cash back in March of this year. Soul EV does qualify for an $8,000 federal government rebate and that certainly helps make the purchase price more palatable. The Kia Soul EV definitely rocks and is a must-drive for anyone considering an EV in this price range. Quick Specs – Kia Soul EV Base Price: $34,995

Contrary to general perception, most classic cars aren’t fragile flowers. In fact, many are anviltough, particularly American cars of the 1950s and 1960s, built with real Pennsylvania steel and very little plastic. But even these rolling bank vaults can be seriously screwed up by these five things: Non-use: This one is really is counterintuitive. When classic cars come to mind for many, the image of the trailer queen or museum piece looms large; in fact, most people think that these are the best cared-for cars. In actuality, they often turn out to be the most problematic cars when they are finally driven. Non-use is actually abuse — seals dry out and start to leak; gas gets stale and turns to varnish; batteries corrode when not removed; and tires get flat spots. Cars that are used and maintained on a regular basis, on the other hand, are often the happiest

and most reliable old cars. Improper storage/rodents: This goes along with the above. Failure to drain fuel or use a stabilizer, not using jack stands, and making certain that anti-freeze is up to snuff all contribute to storage-related deterioration. But perhaps the most destructive force has

four teeth and a naked tail — rats and mice, the same rodents that wiped out half the population of Europe by carrying Bubonic plague, can really mess with your classic car. They chew upholstery and insulation to make nests (in which they pee, poop and reproduce, not necessarily in that order), and worst of all, they chew on wiring harnesses where it isn’t apparent until something smokes or catches fire from behind the dash of your 1965 Mustang. Road Salt: Most everyone who has taken chemistry knows that the reaction between Sodium Chloride and steel yields iron oxide, more commonly known as rust.

But few people truly realize how quickly the damage is done. Just one drive on a wet salty road will give your classic an ugly coating of surface rust on anything on the underside that is not well protected, like suspension parts, exhaust and even the frame. A season or two that lets salty mud penetrate the nooks and crannies of your car will almost certainly cause visible rust to erupt. And don’t think you’re immune because your car is fiberglass, there’s plenty of steel to rot away under the pretty plastic panels of your 1972 Corvette Stingray. Conversely, getting caught in the rain every now and then

isn’t death for your classic, as long as nothing like carpets or trunk mats get soaked and stay wet. Some of the cleanest and most rust-free old cars we’ve seen come from the damp Pacific Northwest, where it snows little and road salt isn’t used. Old Tires: Most vintage cars don’t see 15,000 miles of use each year and, often, totally unsafe tires can look deceptively sound. In addition to tread wear, age, dry rot, flat spots and UV exposure can render tires unsafe. About six or seven years should be tops in terms of tire life, regardless of how the tires may look.

Five things that will kill your classic car continued from page B10

A blowout or a thrown tread can not only threaten your life, it can severely damage your car severely as I found out first hand when an otherwise fine-looking tire threw a tread and put a football-sized dent in the lower quarter panel of a formerly pristine 1977 Datsun 280Z. Bad driving habits: The list of things that you can

do to shorten the life of the major systems of a classic — from engine, transmission to differential — is long and beyond the scope of this article. But perhaps the most destructive thing you can do to a vintage car is to not let it warm up properly. I’ve witnessed tons of people who should know better start up a cold car and immediately zing it to the redline with the first shift. It’s painful to watch and even more painful to

realize the harm that’s being done to the engine. Always drive gently until the car has reached normal operating temperature (usually around the mid-point of the temperature gauge). Ian Harwood Ian Harwood has been involved in the light truck industry for the past 30 years. His career started with the opening of a small 4-wheel drive shop in the early 80s. This shop was involved in custom fabrication, complete 4x4 rebuilds, and sales of off-road related products. This would prepare him for his current position as Manager for Custom Truck Parts, one of the largest accessory warehouses in Canada. Ian started his journalism career in the late 1090s with a column in a national magazine for automotive enthusiasts. In the spring of 2005 Ian was approached by a local news outlet to write a weekly column. Wilderness exploring, fishing and four wheeling have been his passion since he was a teenager. Some memorable moments in Ian’s career are flying in by hto the famous Rubicon Trail in Northern California and driving a 2007 Jeep Wrangler out of the backwoods, up a waterfall and out of the trail to Lake Tahoe.
