All around the region, the Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) is asking residents what they need and what they want. Through a series of public consultation sessions, the CBT is inviting people to share their thoughts on where they want to see improvement and investment in their own communities. The sessions began in September, but over the past week, the Trust has been in Rossland, Trail and Castlegar with whiteboards, information packages and experts, asking, “what is important to you?” Heather Mitchell, organizer of the public consultation series with the Trust, says that although the process is not finished yet, there have been a few common themes CBT has heard about from residents. “We want to be careful identifying any themes before we gather all of the data, but there are definitely a few things that have come up like economic development and diversification, recreation and physical activities has come up quite a bit and affordable housing and options for seniors,” she said. “There are definitely some common themes that keep coming up, but we want to wait and see, so we can get as much input as possible. We want to have a good understanding and representation of the basin as a whole. The residents

are our stakeholders.” The CBT is also using online resources, pop-up booths in grocery stores and community centres and private meetings as requested with community groups and Mitchell says the process is very-much ongoing. “We are doing this in a couple of phases and we are in the middle of phase one right now,” she said, adding that the Trust has some, but not enough, information. “We already have a lot of information (through other consultations processes), but we are here to find out if we have missed anything. We want to know if there is anything important to the communities in the basin that we haven’t touched on.” After the public consultation process, the Trust will be moving on to phase two – compiling a report synthesizing all of the information they have gathered. After that step is complete, the Trust will be sharing that report with the residents who helped build it. The report will help dictate

where the CBT spends money and where they will invest time and effort. The Trust is also in the process of renewing their Strategic Plan, a document that is compiled every five years to help dictate how the Trust operates – a game plan. “We are also asking people how they want to work with the Trust,” said Mitchell. “It sets a clear path for the CBT over the next five years. It is an overarching document that guides our activities. We want to make sure that we have understood the residents and that we keep understanding.” The Trust is taking a holiday break from the public sessions, but they are expected to start back up in the new year with events scheduled for Kimberley on Jan. 14, Cranbrook on Jan. 20 and Invermere and Fernie on Jan. 21. More dates are being added as they are needed. For the most up to date information on the meeting schedule, visit ourtrustourfuture.cbt.org.

Seventy-ninth in an alphabetical series on West Kootenay/Boundary place names Last week we began looking at how Gray Creek, on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake, got its name. It was on the map by 1893, although it was also known as Grays, Gray’s Creek, Grey’s Creek, and Ironton. Conventional wisdom has it that it was named after John Hamilton Gray (1853-1941), a land surveyor who worked in the area in the 1890s. However, nothing links him to that specific spot. There’s another more probable namesake: prospector and rancher Alden (or Aulden) Samuel Gray (1849-1942), a native of New Annan, Nova Scotia. In the 1880s, he and brother George Robert Gray operated a lime works at Lakeview, Idaho, near the south end of Lake Pend Oreille, where a sternwheeler stop came to be known as Gray’s Landing. Later they ran the steamer Spokane on the Kootenay River. According to Terry Turner and Susan Hulland in Impressions of the Past, Alden and wife Mary staked claims at Gray Creek and Crawford Bay in April 1893. Alden also pre-empted 160 acres on the west side of Kootenay Lake on June 25, 1894, where another landing took his name, first mentioned in the Victoria Colonist of October 28, 1896. The latter described mining claims at the head of Kokanee Creek as “12 miles from Gray’s landing, which is 12 miles east of Nelson.” Several more Crown grants were issued to the Grays between 1897 and 1901, although their Kokanee pre-emption was cancelled in 1898.

On September 15, 2008 the 1894 Redding-Gray cabin trundled out of the Gray Creek auto camp and settled into its new home next to the community hall. Photo by Frances Roback

The Nelson Tribune of August 29, 1900 reported: “Al Gray of Gray’s Landing was in the city yesterday securing signatures to a petition urging the government to extend the Molly Gibson wagon road.” John Patrick Redding, Gray Creek’s first settler, had a prospecting partner named Gray, who may well have been Alden. Redding and Gray discovered the Five Metals mine and according to Kathleen Lymbery’s unpublished history of Gray Creek written in 1958, cut cord wood for the Pilot Bay smelter. They also built a cabin of cedar logs at the upper end of their flume on Croasdaile Creek, which Kathleen’s husband moved to their store’s auto camp in 1933. It stood there until 2008, when it was moved next to the Gray Creek Hall. Redding filed a pre-emption “north of the mouth of Grays Creek” in 1900, by which time he also had a namesake creek. He, his wife, and son were listed as residents of “Gray’s Creek” on the 1901 census.

What became of Al Gray? He sold his ranch in May 1906 for $3,500. The Ledge reported on July 19 that year that he would “leave Nelson on August 7 upon a grand tour of Nova Scotia. Upon his return in November he intends to visit Alaska for the purpose of testing its climate in the winter time.” The same newspaper stated on April 28, 1910: “Al Gray is planting fruit trees upon his pre-emption near Meanskinisht, 40 miles from Hazelton. He was one of the pioneer ranchers of Kootenay lake and says that fruit will grow up the Skeena river equally as well as it will around Nelson.” The paper added on September 12, 1912 that Gray was busy tunneling a copper claim adjoining his ranch. He was dealt a setback that fall when his house burned. However, he spent more than 30 years in the district before he died in Hazelton at 94. — Thanks to Frances Roback and Tom and Sharon Lymbery

Rosslanders featured in new book Greg Nesteroff West Kootenay Advertiser

Rossland founder Ross Thompson said he could die a happy man after visiting his namesake town in 1946, according to an interview with Warren Crowe included in a new book. Crowe, a longtime customs agent, is one of two Rosslanders featured in Robert Budd’s Echoes of British Columbia: Voices From the Frontier. His interview is drawn from nearly 1,000 conducted across the province by CBC Radio journalist Imbert Orchard in the 1950s and ‘60s. The 2,700 hours of Orchard’s tapes are held by the BC Archives, where Budd was hired to digitize them. Crowe came to Rossland in 1899 from Nova Scotia at age five after his father got a job in the gold mines. He recalls that during the miners’ strike of 1901, “a good many evenings we went to bed with just a piece of bread.” Crowe also remembers the 1905 explosion of the Centre Star mine’s powder magazine, which killed one man and shattered nearly every window in town. But the bulk of the excerpt, recorded in 1964, is devoted to how he brought the city’s founder back for a visit. Prospector-miner Ross Thompson arrived at the mining camp on Red Mountain in 1891, bought 160 acres, and formed a townsite company. After watching the camp

flourish into West Kootenay’s largest city, he sold his remaining holdings and moved to Nevada in 1904. Crowe was introduced to Thompson in Vancouver and returned home “with one intention in mind, to have that old fellow up as our guest.” Crowe took up a collection to pay for Thompson’s visit, and went to meet him in Castlegar, where he had presumably flown in. “Goodness, isn’t it good to be able to travel by automobile where I walked to record to my homestead in Rossland?” Thompson asked. After being banqueted, Thompson was sent on a tour of his old West Kootenay haunts, including the not-quite-ghost town of Sandon, where he renewed acquaintances with its founder, Johnny Harris. (A photo of this summit of elderly mining titans survives.) Crowe recalled: “This big car drove up, a brand new car with a driver, with a full bottle of Scotch right alongside of the driver. That was for his personal use. He was gone four days. The full cost of the trip was borne by CM&S and every morning he got up there was a brand new bottle of Scotch there, which the old fellow liked very much.” “I don’t know how to thank the people of Rossland,” Thompson said at the conclusion of his visit. “I’ve enjoyed this. I can go to my grave a contented man.” Thompson made good on

his statement in 1951 at age 85. Not only can you read Crowe’s story, but you can hear him tell it, as it’s part of a CD set included with the book, a sequel to 2010’s bestselling Voices of British Columbia. The latter didn’t have much Kootenay content, but this time in addition to Irwin, Rossland’s Minnie Irvin describes how she came to Arrowhead in 1911 to visit her brother and father. She met hotelier Sam Irvin “on Sunday at noon, was engaged to him on Wednesday, and 19 days later I married him. And made a very fine choice.” The couple move to Rossland in 1915, where they bought the Central Hotel and renamed it the Irvin. They operated it until 1958 and then retired to Chilliwack. The hotel burned down in 1975, by then known as the White Wolf Inn.

The 2015 model year vehicles are rolling into dealerships, with just a few stragglers set for later arrival in the New Year. This week, the Driveway team takes a look at what’s new, in print and online at drivewaycanada.ca, starting with our chief test driver Zack Spencer.

New Year’s Resolution: Hot rides and buys for 2015 Here are what I consider to be five important cars for 2015.

This sixth generation Explorer marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic SUV, with over 350,000 sold in Canada so far.

Mazda MX-5 2015 Jeep Renegade Over the last few years Mazda has been introducing There is no question that the merger of Fiat and vehicles with its new Skyactiv technology but there is Chrysler has helped to introduce many new vehicles. one car that will signify the culmination of all the things The small car segment is a perfect example; the Fiat Mazda does well, the next generation MX-5 (Miata). 500 and its variations has been a plus The MX-5 will come in 2015 as a 2016 for Chrysler’s bottom line. Built in Europe model and all eyes are on Mazda to see on the Fiat 500L platform, this smaller what it can deliver. The bodywork is more Jeep Renegade replaces the Compass dramatic and having seen it in person, and Patriot models. This replaces the older 2.0L Ecoboost and provides a 270hp, a 13 per cent bump over the last version. The 290hp 3.5L V6 is carried over but the Sport trim and new Platinum trim will be fitted with the 365hp Ecoboost V6. Ford claims that styling is the number one purchase consideration so the shape was retained but new grille and LED headlamps help refresh the look.

Honda HR-V Coming in 2015 is another SUV, smaller than the CR-V, helping to define the new subcompact SUV market. This little runabout is built off the excellent Honda Fit platform and will include many of the features that make that car a standout. The first is the interior of the HR-V. It will also feature Honda’s Magic Seats that flip

and fold for amazing versatility. The same 1.8L 4-clinder engine with 138hp will power this vehicle, either with FWD or AWD, through a continuously variable transmission or 6-cpeed manual. Pricing will be introduced closer to the introduction this coming spring. Built in Mexico, the HR-V will give Honda the same leg up that the original CR-V did for the small SUV segment. Chevrolet Volt It might surprise many people that the best selling electric car in Canada is the Chevrolet Volt, not the sexy Tesla Model S. There are many reasons for this, mainly the fact that the Volt provides all-electric transportation for 65 kms but with the aid of a small 4-cylinder generator to extend the range over 300 kms. This car has all of the upside of an electric car with none of the range limiting restrictions. In 2015, Chevrolet will introduce the second generation of Chevrolet Volt, one that hopes to improve on the usability of the car in terms of comfort and electric driving range. General Motors will showcase the next generation car in January at the Detroit Auto Show and the company’s CEO has stated that the new car “will store more energy in its battery pack with fewer cells, yet go further on a charge.” General Motors claims that 80 per cent of current Volt owners commute entirely on electric power, so any improvement to range will help increase this number. The Volt isn’t a huge volume seller for General Motors but this new model will help the company to showcase what it can do technologically. General Motors has the capability to produce some the most advanced cars on the road.

Five crossovers competing in Canada’s hottest market segment

By Bob McHugh

Crossovers are the most in demand vehicles in any market you can name. Mazda CX-3: Freshly unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Mazda CX-3 is an all-new compact (crossover) utility. Like all the latest Mazda products it comes with that distinctive Kodo (Soul of Motion) styling theme and it’s the fifth in a series of the new-generation models to feature the full-package of Mazda’s ground-breaking Skyactiv (fuel-saving) technologies. In dealers next summer (as a 2016 model), the CX-3 is expected to become a new core vehicle in the Mazda line-up. Power comes from a 2.0-litre gas engine linked to a six-speed automatic transmission and Mazda’s newgeneration AWD system. This system employs an active torque control coupling, first used on the Mazda CX-5, plus a new and unique front wheel slip warning detection system. New technologies available include a Mazda Connect infotainment system and its (radar based)

i-Activesense active safety system. The CX-3 has an extra long hood and a flowing shape that raises at the rear to convey a look of strength and power. Large diameter wheels are pushed to the body ends and it has a long 101.2 wheelbase. The chassis employs a lightweight torsion beam rear suspension system. Forward positioning the front wheels allows the driver extended leg room, on the inside, and space for a hinged (organ-type design) gas pedal. Seating is provided for up to five and the rear seat occupants sit a little taller than those in the front. Lincoln MKC: Agile, athletic and fuel-efficient are not words you probably associate with Lincoln vehicles, but they can be used to describe the MKC. This all-new and attractive premium compact utility vehicle fits nicely into a revitalized Lincoln line-up that’s more in tune with today’s luxury vehicle buyer. Powered by either a 2.0-litre (10.9L/100km), or optional 2.3-litre (11.2L/100km), turbocharged four-cylinder (Eco-

Boost) engine, the MKC has a starting MSRP just under $40,000 and comes in three trim levels. All wheel drive is standard plus continuously controlled suspension damping, adaptive electric power-assisted steering and active (cabin) noise control are included in a group of advanced technologies called Lincoln Drive Control. The MKC’s extra-large rear liftgate is a distinctive wraparound design that includes the full-width LED taillights. Created by using a unique hydro-forming process it gives the MKC a smooth, clean rear appearance and the wider opening provides easier access to its cargo area. A clever optional power feature also allows handsfree operation, to open or close the liftgate, by using a kicking action. Toyota Highlander: This third generation of Toyota Highlander is sleeker, more fuel-efficient and larger, with three rows of seating, for up to eight occupants. It’s also available in four (3.5-litre) V6 engine editions plus three (V6) hybrid powertrain editions.

The fuel-frugal base LE trim ($31,975) is the only front-drive version. Limited ($45,395) is the top-line all-wheel drive edition and hybrid editions range from $44,015 to $52,990. The 3.5-litre V-6 can generate 270-horsepower and it’s mated to six-speed automatic transmission. Towing is rated at 2,268 kg (5,000 lbs) and a transmission cooler is standard, however, the tow hitch, with a wiring harness, is an option. While you gain the coolfactor of its utility, as a people-mover it can’t match the practicality of a minivan. Maximum cargo space of 2,370 litres (with second and third rows folded) isn’t close to the Toyota Sienna minivan’s 4,247 litres. Then again, Highlander has real off-road credentials. Good ground clearance, hill-decent and four-wheel-drive locking features keep Highlander intouch with its roots. Nissan Murano: If you want a mid-sized crossover that will stand out from the crowd, take a look at a 2015 Nissan Murano, and its new price tag! This third-

generation design takes the Murano’s car-like styling to a new level in the utility segment. It’s offered in four trim levels – S ($29,998), SV, SL and Platinum and there’s a choice of front-wheel (S, SV) or all-wheel drive (SV, SL, Platinum). The start price has been reduced by $4,500 (versus the 2014 Murano S) and prices

have dropped on almost all trim levels, even though the new Murano comes with more equipment. Power comes from a 3.5-litre V6 en-

gine connected to an Xtronic (CVT) transmission. The 2015 Murano has reduced weight (approximately 145 pounds) versus the previous generation, low rolling resistance tires, air grille shutter, low 0.31 Cd, underbody covers that enhance underbody airflow and improvements to the Xtronic transmission. Honda CR-V: There are many very good reasons why the Honda CR-V is Canada’s bestselling utility vehicle and it gets significant enhancements for the 2015 model year. Honda claims this is the most significant mid-model cycle refresh in its history and the changes include a new direct-injected Earth Dreams Technology i-VTEC engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Although the current (2014) CR-V provides good fuel economy, the new powertrain combo is even better. When both model years are measured with the new NR CAN’s 5-cycle test method, the combined fuel savings for a front-drive 2015 edition is 1.3 L/100km and the 2015 all-wheel-drive version is 1.1 L/100km more frugal than its predecessor. In addition to enhanced exterior and interior styling, CR-V also gets a new suite of Honda Sensing safety and driver assistive features, plus some new standard and available features. And there’s more good news, the 2015 Honda CR-V comes with a lower start manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $25,990. bob.mchugh@drivewaybc.ca

THE PICTURE WORTH 2,000 CHANGES. THE BOLD NEW CAMRY North America’s perennial bestselling sedan didn’t just get a facelift. For 2015, the Toyota Camry is all new, with over 2,000 changes to the design, components, materials and technology. Rather than spell out each and every one, we thought we’d point your attention to one thing that didn’t change – the price. It’s bold, it’s beautiful and it’s much more sporty and fun. Just don’t expect a picture to do it justice. Come test drive one.

Pickups pick up major sales across the country By Ian Harwood

Pickup trucks continue to push new sales records every year and with more and more advancements in technologies and lightweight materials, we are witnessing a dramatic change to the automotive industry. The 2015 Ford F-150 is a reinvention of North America’s most popular pickup. It is 317 kilograms (700lbs) lighter, due to its aluminum

body. It can tow up to 500 more kilograms (1,100lbs) and carry up to 240 more kilograms (530lbs) of cargo. The other benefit of losing all this weight is the fuel economy numbers, projected to be five to 20 percent better gas mileage. Four engine choices, 2.7 litre EcoBoost V6 delivering 385 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque, a 3.5 litre EcoBoost V6 twin turbo that produces 365 horsepower and an incredible 420 lb-ft of torque,

a 5.0-litre V8 with 385 horsepower with 387 lbft of torque and a 3.5-litre with 283 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. Some new technologies incorporated in this truck include; a 360-degree camera that offers the driver a bird’s eye view to help manouevre the vehicle out of tight spots, LED headlamps, LED taillamps, integrated loading ramps, and a trailer hitch assist rearview camera that helps line up their truck and

trailer without the use of a spotter. Starting at $17,999 The 2015 Ram 1500 Diesel features a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 with an eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission, delivering an impressive 7.1 L/100 km highway fuel economy, powers. The Ram also includes active grille shutters to improve airflow for improved aerodynamics. There is also an airbag option available that can lower the ride height to

create less drag. The Ram truck has generated a lot of excitement in 2014 and has won numerous awards. In Canada, Ram has maintained a strong following and with a diesel engine offering, the light truck market just became more interesting. Starting at $19,995 The 2015 GMC Canyon has breathed new life into the midsize pickup market.

From best-in-class fuel efficiency, power and towing to premium features such as leather seating and 4G Wi-Fi, our new midsize trucks enter the game not as rookies but as leading scorers. Not everyone needs a full-size pickup, and most SUVs falter when the game gets rough or the work gets dirty. This vehicle is equipped with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and is mated with a six speed manual transmission, with a sixspeed automatic available as an option. You can also order a more powerful 3.6 Litre V6 with 302 horsepower engine, but it is only available with the automatic transmission. Available 4G LTE with Wi-Fi connection through OnStar turns your pick up into a mobile hotspot. Brand new body

style will attract a lot of attention, especially on the west coast where midsize trucks were so popular. Starting at $22,395 The 2015 Chevy Silverado HD marches in with an all new exterior styling designed around improving airflow, which helps the 6.6-litre Duramax turbo diesel or the 6.0-litre Vortex V8 maintain full power during heavy towing and higher temperatures. Auto grade braking and diesel exhaust braking help keep

towing in check on those steep hills. Starting on a hill is no problem thanks to the hill start assist that holds the brakes until you press the accelerator. The trailer sway control automatically senses if a trailer is swaying and brings it back in line by applying both the truck’s and trailer’s brakes. The rear bumper has steps integrated into each corner making it easier to access the pickup’s box. Starting at $39,995 The 2015 Toyota Tundra is

equipped with a 5.7-litre i-force V8 engine producing 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque can tow up to 4,760 kg (10,500 lb). The Tundra went through a complete makeover last year with dramatic changes to the body. The grille is much larger and gives the truck a more aggressive look. The 1794 Edition is a Western themed truck that features 20” chrome clad alloy wheels, chrome surround grille with 2 bar silver inserts, a chrome and

silver bumper, 1794 Edition badging, power moonroof and a heavy duty towing package. The Tundra tailgate opens very easily with

the hydraulic assist and can close with as little as two fingers. Starting at $27,225 ian.harwood@drivewaybc.ca

Five new vehicles under $25K By Alexandra Straub

If you’re in the market for a new car but don’t haven an unlimited budget, fear not, you have quite a few options. VW Golf ($18,995) The VW Golf is undeniably popular. With more than 30 million sold around the world since it first hit the streets, it just keeps getting better. For 2015, the ever-popular 3 or 5-door variant comes with a new engine, new architecture and new sheet metal. Based upon Volkswagen’s latest technological masterpiece, the “MQB Platform”, the Golf embodies

the spirit of the original, and incorporates all of the latest engineering advances. It is the safest, best-handling and roomiest Golf of all time. Thanks to the use of high-strength steel, it’s more rigid, but also safe, with better handling. Though the Golf has grown in size it has dropped in weight by up to 35.8 kg/79 pounds (depending on model.) An all-new, 1.8L direct-injected turbocharged engine, delivering 170 horsepower and 184 pound power it-feet of torque. The shape and design elements remain as defined, as ever, with a distinctive C-pillar and roofline framing

classic Golf side windows, but the striking new front end and steeply sloped hood leave no doubt this is an all-new model. Subaru Legacy ($23,495) The all-new Subaru Legacy will pleasantly surprise those in need of a mid-size sedan with all-wheel drive. Priced under $24K, its trunk accommodates for 425L, there’s room for five, and its 2.5L, 4-cylinder engine produces 175 horsepower. On the base model, you have the choice of a 6-speed manual or an available Lineartronic CVT with paddle shifters and manual mode. One of the weakest points of the

Legacy was probably the interior. For 2015, it’s significantly updated. Its infotainment system also receives a much needed revamping. Inside the entry-level Legacy 2.5i you’ll find an AM/FM stereo with SiriusXM satellite radio, a Radio Data Broadcast System, an in-dash CD player, a 6.2inch multi-function touchscreen display, Subaru STARLINK connectivity with smartphone integration, a rear-view camera. Furthermore, the multi-touch display offers swipe and scrolling gestures, similar to smartphones and tablets. MINI Cooper ($20,990) MINI’s street legal, go kart-like Cooper is now in its third generation

and better than before. This pint-sized 3-door can be outfitted with a choice of two new engines: either a 3- cylinder engine with a peak output of 134 horsepower or, if you move up to the S

trim, you’ll get a 4-cylinder engine with an output of 189. You can match either engine with either a 6-speed manual or an available 6-speed automatic.

Five new vehicles under $25K continued from page B8

And as the MINI Cooper grows up, it also grows in dimensions. It’s 114 mm longer, 44 mm wider and 7 mm higher than its predecessor. Honda Fit ($14,495) Unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, the all-new, five-passenger, five-door vehicle comes with style and flair. And just because it doesn’t have a huge price tag, it doesn’t mean you don’t get some pretty great standard features.

Those i n clude things like: Bluetooth connectivity, a multiangle r e a rview

camera, and Expanded View Driver’s Mirror. For customers looking for premium features in the subcompact segment, the Fit will be available with smart entry with push-button start, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, Honda’s exclusive LaneWatch display and a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen interface with HondaLink smartphone connectivity.

The 2015 Fit marks the debut of an all-new direct-injected 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine. It produces 130 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 114 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm. Engine output is increased by 13 horsepower and 8 lb-ft of torque compared to the outgoing engine For those who love the versatility of Honda’s exclusive Magic Seats, they continue through this generation. It provides an amazing 1492.3 L of cargo space when the second row seats are folded flat.

Nissan Micra ($9,998) It’s small and comes with a small price tag, but expect big things from the all-new Nissan Micra. At one of Canada’s lowest MSRPs – it competes directly with the Mitsubishi Mirage for that title – it’s amazing what you can get for so little. The base model comes with manual windows and a manual transmission. It handles quite well and the cabin isn’t particularly loud when driving at highway speeds. The Micra is designed to not

only meet or exceed Canadian safety regulations, but exceed them. Micra’s standard safety systems include the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) (includes front supplemental air bags, front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags, roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS). Under its hood is a 1.6L, 4-cylinder engine that produces 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of

torque. Okay, it’s not a lot but certainly enough to get you around. Available in three models, the Micra S, SV and top-of-the-line SR, these micro cars will be able to be matched with a 5-speed manual transmission, or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Whether you’re looking for a hatchback, sedan, or a micro car, the 2015 model year has all-new vehicles in that segment and more. alexandra.straub@drivewaybc. ca

Ian Harwood has been involved in the light truck industry for the past 30 years. His career started with the opening of a small 4-wheel drive shop in the early 80s. This shop was involved in custom fabrication, complete 4x4 rebuilds, and sales of off-road related products. This would prepare him for his current position as Manager for Custom Truck Parts, one of the largest accessory warehouses in Canada. Ian started his journalism career in the late 1090s with a column in a national magazine for automotive enthusiasts. In the spring of 2005 Ian was approached by a local news outlet to write a weekly column. Wilderness exploring, fishing and four wheeling have been his passion since he was a teenager. Some memorable moments in Ian’s career are flying in by hto the famous Rubicon Trail in Northern California and driving a 2007 Jeep Wrangler out of the backwoods, up a waterfall and out of the trail to Lake Tahoe.

Keith Morgan Ask Keith’s media contemporaries to describe his approach to anything he undertakes and you will hear such words as “passion”, “enthusiasm”, “energy and “innovation” used repeatedly. Never in neutral, the Brit-trained news guy drives projects as he would a finely tuned car, adding the options and features along the way to make the experience as good as it can be. Indeed, Keith is an innovator in developing editorial content for all media platforms and a master at weaving informative and entertaining material of wide appeal into imaginative revenue generation projects. He launched his journalistic career in 1975 as a reporter for his hometown newspaper in Blackpool, England, moving to Vancouver in 1980 where he began a 32-year-career with The Province/ Vancouver Sun. Latterly he created such highly profitable and readable specialty sections at the papers as Driving and Sunday Homes. The multiple-award-winner broadened his media experience by authoring two books, making regular TV appearances, hosting talk shows in Vancouver and Kelowna and writing and executive producing The Province Road Test quiz show for prime time TV. Away from the day job, Keith has donated his creative abilities in support of the Coast Foundation’s Courage to Come Back Awards, the United Way and the Christmas Bureau. keith.morgan@drivewaybc.ca
