said. While Nixon is excited to see the Wildrose Party under new leadership, he noted voters have the final say regarding elected officials. He remained non-

The Wildrose Party’s candidate for MLA for the Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre riding is pleased with the party’s new leader, seeing the change as a positive step forward. Former Conservative MP Brian Jean won the leadership of the Wildrose Party March 28. “He is a really great principled conservative leader,” said Jason Nixon. “He’s got plans to keep our taxes low and strengthen the size of our government while growing our economy. As well he’s had a lot of experience in Ottawa with Harper.” Jean resigned his House of Commons seat in 2014 after 10 years in office. Nixon, the former Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre constituency president defeated MLA Joe Anglin in a nomination race last summer. The 30-something father of three lives west of Sundre in the Bearberry area with his wife and children. Since the provincial budget was announced, Nixon said the voters within the constituency are voicing discontent with the PCs.
“We have been door knocking almost nightly and people are voicing that they are not happy with this budget.” Nixon said he does not blame the public for being upset, noting the provincial budget sees taxes go up by $2,500 for the average family. “It is the largest tax increase in history,” he said. “It is very hard on taxpayers and they are still running a large deficit. The taxpayers are picking it up (the deficit) now and our kids will pick it up in the future.” The increase in fuel will not only be noticed at the pumps, he said, adding that it will mean transportation and delivery costs will be bumped up, and the spin offs will affect everyone. “Prentice needs to look in the mirror, himself,” he

Jonah Kondro Spring and summer are upon us all; it’s time we all are awarded a few months to enjoy the renewal of plant life and many late days spent in the sun. The angst of the arrival of the new seasons has me drooling over my motorcycle that hasn’t seen a new tick to the odometer in countless months. But there is a developing shadow in the future months of summer – my ten year high school reunion is upon me … To explain things in the shortest manner possible: I had mostly attended school in Red Deer and then was unfortunately exiled to Grande Prairie where I finished my last two years of high school. My arrival in Rimbey was shortly after my graduation in 2005. I was living with Dad in G.P. and couldn’t afford to live on my own there; so I continued to live with Dad after the move to Rimbey. Ten years later I’m still here – and I say that without any
sort of negative connotations. I haven’t really stayed close to anyone I attended school with in G.P., except Kenny. Kenny (although still living up north) is the sort of lifelong friend that you can practice karate in the garage with, build rudimentary bunk beds with, and hunker down to watch Shark Week with – this may already be a movie plot. Despite my shortfalls with staying connected to others I attended school with, Kenny has maintained some friends from that era of life. So if a ten year reunion develops, my continued association with Kenny will likely land me standing awkwardly holding a cup of punch at a function where I’m trying to remember people’s names from high school ten years ago. There was a soft agreement between Kenny and I that hatched last summer regarding the potential reunion: If such a reunion was to materialize, I would only attend if we (Kenny and I) each wore an orange and light blue matching tuxedos – top hats and canes included. He agreed and without any doubt has likely already sourced and placed a deposit on the tux rentals. There is nothing worse than trying to describe your faux life-successes to people from your past while
wearing ridiculous apparel. This situation can extend outside of the limits of high school reunions. I still battle the odd family function where I usually find myself explaining why I never produce a girlfriend. I think it would be simple to report to the people of my past that I’d become an adult, didn’t like what I saw, so I turned around, and starting becoming a kid again. This is the only path of logic that can explain why I would accept part-
time status as a journeyman automotive technician and attend college, where many kids just graduated high school last year, in Red Deer. I’m not a character that resembles Van Wilder, I’m just trying to make sense of the swirl of possibilities that life can offer. If this explanation comes from under an orange top hat on weekend of the reunion, during which I hold a reservation for a cheap motel room in Grande Prairie – so
be it. I’m not really good at math and about five years ago I could honestly admit that I had been out of high school for longer than I had ever attended. High school seems like an important length of life that I would rather close and forget like the algebra chapter in a math textbook. I have never ever received a girl’s phone number with a signal digit replaced with a letter and instructions saying solve for X.
MLA Joe Anglin responds to provincial budget
Production: Red Deer, Alberta Published every Tuesday by PNG Prairie Newspaper Group in community with: Publisher: Fred Gorman
On Thursday, March 26 the provincial government introduced its budget, proposing one of the largest tax hikes in Alberta’s history. The government’s expenditures however, will change very little with the exception of some small cuts to health care and senior services. The small cuts to Alberta Health Services are a major irony embedded in
the budget. Albertans will now pay approximately $567 million annually of new fees as a result of the new Health Care levy, (a.k.a. premium), and not a cent of this levy will help to actually pay for additional or improved health care. It’s called a health care levy, but it is in reality just a tax that is applied to the general revenues (coffers) of the province.
Alberta’s 2015 budget is emblematic of a greater problem. Government spending is not changing and taxes are going up. The government’s spending deficit is now more than $5 billion this year, and the provincial debt is expected to rise to well over $34 billion by 2019. To put this in perspective on a smaller scale, the government approved
spending $10 million dollars for a golf course in 2015, and another $300 million for carbon capture and storage. This is in addition to the $1 billion dollars that this government has already given to companies for carbon capture and storage. They are doing this even though no technology has been proven to actually work
Another hidden gem in this year’s spending, the government approved and created a new paid position called a “Fish Guardian”. It is not known what these “Fish Guardians” will be paid or what they will do. In summary, the budget will be passed sometime in the next 30-days, or we might just have an election.

Wolf Creek deals with budget implications, frozen funds BY TREENA MIELKE
The provincial budget has school boards scrambling to figure out how to make do with less and still provide a high quality of education to students. Superintendent of schools for Wolf Creek, Larry Jacobs said the budget raises some serious concerns. “All our reserves and surpluses have been frozen,” he said. Jacobs plans to get together with administration
next week to discuss the serious implications that will affect each and every school to try and come up with some strategies that will work best for everyone involved. “I want to talk to all the administration to see what recommendations they have for me,” he said. Wolf Creek Schools are projected to receive about 100 new students next year who, unfortunately, will not be funded by the government. It certainly does have a direct impact on the stu-
dents,” he said. This is serious, said Jacobs, who wonders how they will come up with the additional dollars. Another shortfall in funding this year will be increases in wages for teachers who are entitled to pay raises as they move up the grid as their years of teaching increase. The four per cent hike in gasoline and diesel tax leaves Jacobs wondering if combining school bus routes will be necessary to help offset costs.

Operation IMPACT
MP Blaine Calkins The number one priority of any government is the safety and security of its citizens. We cannot have Peace, Order and Good Governance in Canada if our country is living under the threat of attack by those who wish to strip away all the things that make Canada great. ISIL has declared war on Canada, they despise what our society stands for, and they despise our Canadian traditions, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law. It is for these reasons our Government has forwarded the extension of operations against these jihadi terrorists. Canada cannot sit idle on the sidelines while innocent
people are being killed by these terrorists and our countries safety is at risk. Our brave men and women have, throughout our history fought against tyranny in the pursuit of what is right.Make no mistake; we will not abandon that tradition now. Operation IMPACT will be extended for up to 12 months, until March 30th, 2016. Its mandate would be expanded to authorize Canada’s CF-188 Hornet fighters to join coalition partners in attacking ISIL targets within Syrian territory. It is important to note that as with Operation CREEP, Operation IMPACT would remain a counter-terrorism operation exclusively targeting ISIL. Canada will NOT be participating in ground combat operations. As a result of the coalition’s efforts ISIL terrorists can no longer operate freely in approximately 25% of territory they previously held. ISIL cannot have a safe haven; fighters and equipment cannot be allowed to continue to flow across the Iraqi-Syrian boarders. Contrary to what the
opposition parties would like Canadians to believe, Canada is one of the largest contributors to humanitarian aid in Iraq. Canada has contributed $67.4 million in humanitarian assistance since 2014; this has provided food to 1.7 million people, shelter and relief supplies to 1.26 million people and education opportunities for up to half a million kids. Canada has also contributed over $700 million in aid, development and security assistance for Syria and neighboring countries. Canada stands with the Syrian people and we will continue advocating for a political solution to the Syrian crisis. We will stand with our coalition partners to fight these international jihadi terrorists. Reader speaks out against province’s method of taxation
Signs of spring: These lovely pussy willows made a delightful display outside of The Flower Gallery last week. The forecast for Easter weekend is for the colder temperatures to remain. Treena Mielke Photo
Hotel v/s Nova Scotia, that the province could not bring in a sales tax. In fact, they stated that parliament collecting a tax to pay off the war debt had to be ended in 1962 and by then the debt would be paid off. They also ruled that a sales tax could not be implemented as they can only direct tax. Sec. 92 in the BNA Act states hospitals and charitable Institutions are the province’s responsibility. We then have the province giving oil companies (the right) to develop in Fort McMurray. They have to pay no taxes or royalties until the project is paid for. So in essence who paid for those projects? The oil companies or the people in Alberta? Also parliament collects taxes for the province which is about 45 cents more on a dollar. Sometimes we get the 45 cents but usually it’s in the mid to high 30’s. Then they have the nerve to call

these transfer payments. Transfer payments came from duty and excise taxes the provinces gave to parliament so they had a source of income to operate. They were reluctant and asked how they could fund provincial needs. Parliament said they could collect income tax and the provinces said no. So a deal was made where provinces would be given a percentage of duty and excise to operate on. That is what a transfer payment is. If the province removed parliament from income tax we could drop all the other add ons, double the amount the province collects and people would pay about 30 per cent less in the long run. But to keep stealing out tax money and giving it to other provinces is wrong. Like (the problem with) our Heritage Trust Fund. Much was loaned out to other provinces and they refuse to repay. Rimoka Housing Foundation was formed in 1995 as a management body under provincial legislation. The Board is made up of designated representatives from all of the local municipalities as well as a representative from the Legion in Ponoka. The Foundation is primarily responsible for the oversight of the lodges in Ponoka - Golden Leisure Lodge and in Rimbey - Parkland Manor. The operations of the lodges are subsidized by a local tax assessment and by the Alberta Government. Rimoka also has a seniors’ living option in Legacy Place in Ponoka. This life lease option has been extremely successful and has added a great choice for local seniors who wish to live independently. Rimoka Housing currently has two major initiatives underway that will improve the lives of our residents living in the lodge and assist in ensuring that we have great long term sustainable places for our local seniors to live.
NEW LODGE IN RIMBEY This exciting new project is scheduled to start construction in mid to late summer and will eventually replace Parkland Manor. ͻ dŚĞ ŶĞǁ ƉƌŽũĞĐƚ ǁŝůů ďĞ ϴϬ ƌŽŽŵƐ ĂŶĚ ǁŝůů ŚĂǀĞ ĂŶ on-site kitchen, dining areas, activity spaces as well as space for support services such as Home Care; ͻ ĞƌƌLJ ƌĐŚŝƚĞĐƚƵƌĞ ĨƌŽŵ ZĞĚ ĞĞƌ ŚĂǀĞ ďĞĞŶ ĞŶŐĂŐĞĚ as the architects for the new project and will be starting their preliminary designs in the next month; ͻ dŚĞ ϴ ĂĐƌĞ ƉĂƌĐĞů ŽĨ ůĂŶĚ ĨŽƌ ƚŚĞ ŶĞǁ ƉƌŽũĞĐƚ was purchased by Ponoka County and has been generously donated to Rimoka Housing. FIRE SAFETY UPGRADES TO GOLDEN LEISURE LODGE IN PONOKA The Alberta Government has recently announced funding to install a sprinkler system in Golden Leisure Lodge and to upgrade other life safety systems. When complete, this upgrading will ensure that our seniors living in the facility will have superior protection in case of emergencies and will assist in extending the life of the lodge for years to come. tŽƌŬ ŽŶ ƚŚŝƐ ƉƌŽũĞĐƚ ǁŝůů ƉƌŽďĂďůLJ ƐƚĂƌƚ ŝŶ ϮϬϭϲ ĂŶĚ we will ensure that any work will have as little impact for the residents as possible.

The Rimoka Housing Foundation acknowledges the tremendous support of the Governments of Canada and Alberta, as well as the three funding municipalities of Ponoka County, the Town of Ponoka, and the Town of Rimbey to make these exciting projects happen. Their commitment ensures that our local seniors will continue to have a safe, secure, and an affordable place to live and enjoy a great quality of life supported by remarkable and dedicated staff. Brian Jean, a 52-yearold lawyer from Fort McMurray, has been named the new leader of the Wildrose party. Jean, a former member of Stephen Harper’s Conservative caucus, won the race against Wildrose member Drew Barnes and Linda Osinchuk, the former Strathcona County mayor. The outspoken new leader took time off the campaign trail to be with his family, due to the serious illness of his 24-year-old son Michael that finally resulted in his untimely death. During his victory speech, in a voice filled with emotion and sadness, he spoke of his son Michael. He told the crowd in attendance about a note he had found in his son’s room that read ‘what you do for yourself dies with you, but what
you do for others is immortal.” “That was Michael. He
“If any Albertans were expecting that Jim Prentice would keep his word and introduce a fiscally responsible budget, they have to be sorely disappointed.” BRIAN JEAN, Wildrose Party leader
was a great guy.” Jean hasn’t wasted any time in taking on the lead-
ership role with gusto and determination to do whatever it takes to get the party’s house in order before an election is called. He has criticized the provincial budget soundly, urging politicians not to trust Premier Jim Prentice, saying the budget is not fiscally responsible. “If any Albertans were expecting that Jim Prentice would keep his word and introduce a fiscally responsible budget, they have to be sorely disappointed,” he said in a press release. He noted the budget has 59 cuts and fee increases and government spending is going up by half a billion dollars next year. “So instead of real cuts, instead of holding the line, we get an even bigger overall government! And if the PCs mismanagement of the economy causes you to sell a home
or refinance, you will pay in excess of $1,000 more in land registration taxes. Billions in new taxes and fees will go into general revenues to feed the government’s priorities of luxury MLA offices, corporate welfare, sole sourced contracts and cronyism,” the new Wildrose leader said. “More taxes and no real cuts mean that our deficit will be the highest ever and our debt will be well over $31 billion before these PCs start to turn things around. In just a few short years the interest payments on our debt will be over $2 billion and will be the fourth biggest operational expense in government.” “If Jim Prentice and the PCs are serious about this budget, they should debate it and pass it in the Legislature before they call an election.”

Jan Slomp family move to Courtenay, British Columbia BY TREENA MIELKE
After 26 years of being an integral part of the Rimbey community, Jan and Marion Slomp are moving on. Their time in Rimbey, however, will not be forgotten and they will be missed for their community involvement and their willingness to help out whenever and wherever they could. Florence Stemo and her husband Ken are close friends of the Slomps. There was a well worn trail between our homes,” the couple recalled. “We’ll certainly miss them,” added Florence Stemo. The Slomps came to Rimbey from the Netherlands with their three children, Paul, Hannah and George. The family began farming and soon became involved in the community.
“They had all kinds of energy and really wanted to share what they had so they began taking in foster children,” said Stemo. Three of the foster children, Crystal, Cady and Shayna became part of their family. “They really are quite unique people,” said Stemo, who recalled the two families taking trips together and enjoying lots of time visiting. “They were good company. They had a lot of vitality. It’s a good thing they were married to each other. They were a force to be reckoned with.” The couple is moving to Courtenay, British Columbia, an area where one of their sons is now farming. “We will continue to farm,” said Jan Slomp, in a telephone interview, Tuesday. “We will set up a small farming operation over there.”
Slomp said there have been several farewell parties for the family and it has made leaving the community in which they have lived for over two decades difficult. “I almost feel guilty,” he said. However, he is looking forward to the milder winters. “I like three months of winter, but I never did like six months. And we want to see our grandchildren more than once a year.” Slomp and his wife visited the Rimbey Lodge before leaving, saying goodbye to old friends who welcomed them when they first arrived here many years ago. “They were very welcoming to us. We were a young family then. We shook their hands and thanked them. It was a wonderful visit.” continued on page 14

Community says goodbye to Slomps
15041MF0
continued from page 11 Slomp, who is president of the National Farmers Union, said Rimbey is in the middle of his constituency so he has lots of excuses to come back for a visit. “As well we have friendships in Rimbey that are way too good to let go,” he said. “We need to maintain them.” Slomp was returned as president for the National Farmers Union at the union’s 45th annual national convention held in Saskatoon, Sask. Nov. 27 to 29. He remains passionate about being a voice for local farmers. In the last two or three decades, the government has enforced deregulation of many policies, tipping the scales of power in favour of corporations directed from abroad, he said. “We need better policies for food and farmers and we need to be the voice for those running family farms. Our policies are watered down and the farmer’s interest is diminished.”

Fundraiser to send youngsters to camp coming to Forshee BY TREENA MIELKE
Curling: The Rimbey Curling Club held its year-end open bonspiel March 27, 28 and 29. The A-event winners are Lindsay Amundsen (third), Cody Moench (second), Joan Amundsen (lead) and Doug Amundsen (skip).
Game On Outdoors is laying out the red carpet for some lucky youngsters who will be guests of honour at a fundraiser to help send more kids to Cenalta Camp and Wildhorse Mountain Ranch. The fundraiser, to be held April 10 at Forshee Community Hall, promises to be a gala affair offering an evening filled with entertainment, good food, a silent auction and an opportunity to recognize some worthy youngsters. “It’s good to make some good things happen for some really good kids,” said Sandra VonHollen from Game On Outdoors. One of the highlights of the evening will be a showing of a segment of The Dimestore Fishermen, a television fishing program, in which Kole MacAusland, Clayton VonHollen and Garrett and McCoy Groves were featured.
The Dimestore Fishermen, a uniquely Canadian outdoor program that focuses on the cultural, historical and recreational aspects of communities and watersheds, came to Game On last year. D’Arcy Vandergucht, host and cameraman for the show and Jim Hoey, originator and co-creator accompanied the boys on a fishing trip to Medicine Lake. Kaleb Simpson, Isaiah Ukranichuk and Brad Zotich were filmed at the Cenalta Camp. This year, Game On Outdoors plans to send four boys to Cenalta Camp and four girls to Wildhorse Mountain Ranch. The girls’ horse ranch is operated by Bear and Diane Baker and is located near Rocky Mountain House. Sandra VonHollen from Game On Outdoors Inc. is excited about the fundraiser. continued on page 18
The B-event winners are Jeff Quebec (second), Angel Andres, Cheryl Jackson (third) and Herm Wegmann (skip). The C-event winners (not pictured) are Walter Jenson (lead), Darren Attfield (second), Ken Smigoroski, (third) and Gerry Winters (skip). “People You Can Count On”

Ponoka’s director of protective services to retire in September Ted Dillon announces his retirement after 27 years of service to the Town and area After 27 years of service to the people of the Town of Ponoka and Ponoka County, Ted Dillon is retiring from the town on September 4. “On behalf of the town I want to thank Ted Dillon for his years of service and commitment to the residents and businesses of the Town of Ponoka,” said Mayor Rick Bonnett. “His work was critical in enhancing our Protective and Emergency Services over the last 27 years, including his work with the County and our Cree Nations neighbours.” Ted is a familiar face to everyone. He and his wife
Barb are long-time Ponoka residents. In addition to his work as director, Ted is often seen flipping burgers at community barbecues, keeping the fire going at winter events to help young and old stay warm, and volunteering alongside other volunteer firefighters in the town at a variety of events. We know everyone joins us to thank Ted Dillon for his decades of dedication to all he served. With this notice, he gives the town time to recruit a new fire chief, to ensure a smooth transition for the town and while he prepares for retirement this fall.

Jazz at the Lake concert series begins this month SYLVAN LAKE, ALBERTA - Jazz at the Lake fans will be treated to a special musical lineup this year, as festival organizers are excited to announce a new three-concert series that will take place this spring and summer. “It’s definitely something new and exciting for us and for the community, as we haven’t offered this type of concert series before,” says Eric Allison, festival coordinator. “There will be three concerts, each with very different musicians and venues, so people will really have a chance to enjoy the diversity that jazz has to offer.”
“This is going to be an amazing performance, as it will be an outdoor dinner concert under the stars.” - Eric Allison
The first concert took place Saturday, April 4 when the Cheryl Fisher Quintet performed at Fratters Speakeasy in Red Deer. Fisher, who Cadence
magazine describes as “one the best jazz singers we’ve ever produced in this country,” continues to match her technical brilliance and emotionally vibrant voice with her unique approach to music. Jazz Now magazine indicates: “she has a sultry, bluesy sound and approaches her material with the ear of an improvising horn man.” Also a busy festival producer for the Jazz at the Lake Festival, Fisher is getting ready to release her sixth CD and is excited to be on Alberta turf again. “I’m just thrilled Red Deer has such a beautiful club,” she says, “and I’m excited to take the stage with my Calgary quintet to perform my original music and arrangements.” On Tuesday, May 26, concert-goers will be treated to a different jazz experience when internationally renowned Portland jazz guitarist John Stowell and his trio “Scene” perform at an intimate house concert in Sylvan Lake. “We’re really fortunate to connect with John and his trio for this event: they’ll be in Edmonton a couple of days before, and they’ve agreed to come to Sylvan Lake for this special appearance,” Allison explains. “House concerts are popular for jazz, as they offer really intimate venues, and this will be our first foray into this type of performance.”

The final event will take place on Saturday, August 15 at Sylvan Lake with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra’s Evening of Jazz on the Lake. The concert will feature drummer Dan Brubeck and his Trio with special guests Eric Allison and Cheryl Fisher. “This is going to be
an amazing performance, as it will be an outdoor dinner concert under the stars,” says Allison. “We’re honoured to partner with Red Deer Symphony Orchestra and with Dan Brubeck and his Trio. People will definitely hear a unique combination of symphonic arrangements of jazz
classics at this not-to-bemissed event.” The annual Jazz at the Lake Festival itself will not be offered in 2015, as festival organizers are using this year to regroup and plan for future offerings of the event. “Since we won’t be offering the main festival this year,

18 RIMBEY REVIEW
Tuesday, April 7, 2015
Youth get red carpet treatment continued from page 15 “The kids will be picked up in a limo,” she said. “And we are literally laying out the red carpet for them when they arrive at Forshee Hall. And we will be showing the show that the kids were featured on as well.” In keeping with the red carpet theme, dress for the event is to be dressy casual. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 and dinner, catered by M.A.D. Catering, will follow at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment will feature musicians Kelly & Dave. A silent auction will also be held. Tickets for the event are available at Game On Outdoors and Stationery, Stories and Sounds. Giving youngsters a hand up by sending them to camp has been extremely rewarding, said VonHollen. “We are thankful every day for the wonderful people we have met and been involved with (while making this happen),” she said. Online auctions are also part of the fundraising drive, she said. To access the auctions online go to all Canadian online auctions on Facebook.

NEEDHAM James Thomas 1938-2015 DUNN Eileen Mary Dunn of Rimbey, Alberta, formerly of Alder Flats, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the age of 90 years. It is ironic that a woman who spent her life being of service to others, did not want a service at the end of her life. Eileen was born January 18, 1925 to Joseph and Caroline Watton. She idealized her dad who had a trucking business, and was at his side whenever possible helping to repair or drive huge trucks. At 17, she joined the British army as a driver-mechanic. During the war she met her future husband, a Canadian soldier, Arthur “Morris” Dunn. But that would have to wait. Being one of the younger soldiers, Eileen was not demobbed from the army right away. Morris returned to Canada and they corresponded for several years, but Eileen stayed in England to nurse her father who had become ill. While still in England, she became an ambulance driver. After her father’s passing, Eileen came to Canada and married Morris in 1951. They lived on a mixed farm near Pendryl, Alberta. At first they lived in the homestead’s log house, but together they sawed the lumber and built a new home in which they started to raise their three children. They worked to bring power and telephone into the area. In 1963, Eileen and Morris moved to Alder Flats where they owned and operated Mountain View Store for 15 years. They were active members of the community. Eileen was involved with the Home and School and Girl Guides. They also were members of the Agricultural Society and the Legion. Many a community fundraiser involved a huge pan of Eileen’s baked beans, pies and squares. In retirement, Eileen volunteered with Victim Services for a number of years. She was a founding member of the Peace Makers Quilting Club which produced countless quilts for Ronald McDonald House, the Red Cross, and many organizations in need of a quilt to raffle for their cause. Eileen’s sewing room had a sign in it that said, “Far better a constructive mess than idle tidiness.” Her home was always constructive. When not sewing for her charities, she was sewing or knitting for her family. When not sewing, she was baking or canning or cooking. Eileen and Morris enjoyed traveling as well. They camped across Canada, up to Alaska and down to California. They enjoyed a few cruises in the Caribbean and one to the Orient. Their favourite destinations however, were to the homes of their children and grandchildren, where they would show up with homemade goodies, ready to lend a hand. In their later years, Eileen and Morris lived in Drayton Valley, where they volunteered in the Thrift Store, and Red Deer. They enjoyed walking together, but that need to serve meant that they often took along a plastic bag so they could pick up cans and bottles for charity, and litter to put into a recycling or garbage bin. After Morris passed away, Eileen moved to Parkland Manor where she was known as that lady who walked all the time or was knitting hats for cancer patients. Eileen passed away in Rimbey Continuing Care after a lifetime of service. Eileen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two sons, Phil (Cathy) Dunn of Spruce Grove; and Ian (Pauline) Dunn of Drayton Valley; and her daughter, Mary (Beauchamp) Colclough of Rimbey; in addition to four cherished grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Morris in 2011; and her sister, Betty Nicholas. With respect for Eileen’s wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer. Family and friends of Eileen are welcome to drop by the home of Ian and Pauline Dunn in the Drayton Valley area for tea or coffee on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to share any fond memories they may have of Eileen. (Phone (780) 542-6819 or (780) 542-0092 for directions.) If friends desire, memorial tributes in Eileen’s Memory may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, #101, 6751 - 52 Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 4K8; or to the charity of one’s choice. Condolences to the Dunn Family may also be expressed by e-mail to: special_reflections@telusplanet.net Cremation Arrangements for the Late Eileen Mary Dunn entrusted to the care of OBERHAMMER FUNERAL CHAPELS LTD.
