Buccaneers place third in Alberta Football League On August 8, the Central Alberta Buccaneers faced off against the St. Albert Stars in a game that would decide who would hold third place in the Alberta Football League. The two teams had identical records going into Saturday’s game and both were determined to reach a record of 5-2. Doing so would secure third place as well as earn a quarter-final home playoff berth. After four quarters of football in the 28-degree heat, the Bucs would claim third place as their own, with a 19-6 victory over
the Stars. For much of the 2015 season, the Buccaneer offense has been inconsistent: there were brief flashes of brilliance that were marred by miscues, penalties, and missed opportunities. To combat these issues, the Bucs coaching staff made positional changes within the offensive roster, most notably moving #85 Matt Merkley to quarterback and moving #12 Pascal Plante (the Bucs starting QB for much of the 2015 campaign) to fullback. One of the Bucs staff said that “Merkley and Pas-
cal each have tools and abilities that can be utilized in different situations. They are true football players: they will excel in whatever position they are placed.” Plante’s willingness to hit and make contact was well served in the fullback position while Merkley’s pure athletic ability created opportunistic chances. Within the first three minutes of the game, the pirate offense marched the ball into the Stars redzone, capping with a Merkleyto-Plante touchdown (mirroring the many Plante-to-Merkley touchdowns in prior
games). While the offense only scored 15 of the Bucs 19 points (the defense scored two safeties), they were much more dominant than the score would imply. The Buccaneer offense moved the ball via committee: Brett Lapointe #21 ran for over 90 yards, Neil Daniel #7 ploughed his way through Star defenders (narrowly missing a TD in the final seconds of the game), Axsivier Lawrence hauled in numerous Merkley passes, and Marc Glasgow blocked with ferocity. continued on page 9

Trust fund set up for Rimbey man whose work truck was stolen and burned by criminals BY TREENA MIELKE
Bert Pluigers’ truck was stolen and burned recently and a trust account has been set up with ATB Financial at the Rimbey, ATB branch to help him out. Donations can also be made at any ATB branch using Bert’s full name, Lambertus Pluigers. Contact Craig Oliver of AmazingIdeas.com at helpbert@amazing-ideas.com for more information.
In the aftermath of a crime spree in which vandals stole a truck, which they later burned to the ground, a Rimbey resident is reaching out to the community to give a financial hand up to the owner of the vehicle. At 7 a.m. on Aug 6, Bert Pluigers from Rimbey received a phone call from the RCMP that he certainly did not want to get. His truck had not only been stolen, it has been torched and left to burn up to a pile of rubble by two men who had broken into two businesses in Rimbey. “I was a little mad that morning, said Pluigers. The truck, a 2005 Ford F250 extended cab, 4x4, long box which also contained winter gear and a Husqvarna 460 Ranger
chainsaw, was more than just a recreational vehicle for Pluigers. The truck was used by Pluigers in his business, Bert’s Firewood. When Craig Oliver, also a resident of Rimbey, called Pluigers Friday to order firewood he was shocked to hear what had happened to his truck. “After thinking about how it could affect my own family if a heartless occurrence such as this happened to me, I decided this was a perfect opportunity to pay it forward. As Oliver is a new resident to the community he did a background check on Pluigers to verify his standing in the community. He need not have worried. Residents were quick to tell him he was a wellknown, well-liked kind
and generous grandfather of 13 who was always willing to help others. Knowing he was helping out someone who was most deserving of a helping hand, Oliver immediately took action to do his part to ‘pay it forward.’ “The loss of his truck has been a devastating blow to Bert and his family, said Oliver. “As many in Alberta he has been struggling with the current economy, just able to hang in there, barely able to afford insurance and, as such, didn’t have theft nor fire insurance on his truck, only public liability. The loss of his truck means Pluigers cannot earn an income for his family until a new vehicle can be acquired. To pay it forward and help Bert and his family get a dependable replace-
ment truck, Oliver is hoping to raise $20,000 to replace the truck, winter gear, chainsaw and get proper insurance. “By doing this Bert can help a whole lot of us have a much warmer winter, he said. A trust account has been set up with ATB Financial at the Rimbey, ATB branch and donations can also be made at any ATB branch using Bert’s full name, Lambertus Pluigers. Anyone who wishes to help other than by donating financially through the truck account contact Craig Oliver of AmazingIdeas.com at helpbert@ amazing-ideas.com Pluigers is pleased with the support. “It’s pretty wonderful, he said. “That’s what I like about Rimbey. People pull together.

Rays of summer sunshine painted happy faces all over my basement, colouring everything with a glorious brightness that swept away any thoughts of doom and gloom that lurked in the cobwebby corners of my mind. It was on a morning such as this, a few years ago, that I came with this idea to have a backyard party. “Ummm,” I thought. “I should have a party, a backyard summer time party.” My mind soared with possibilities! I would invite many people! They would, of course, all come. If they had previous engagements, they would cancel them.

isting quite happily on my fluffy little planning cloud all day long. I thought of the quote by Mother Theresa, which says, ‘do small things with great love’ and I immediately felt all good and warm inside. It was like the party was not simply a tiny seed planted in my mind on a bright and sunny morning, but truly a great and wonderful reality. When my idea, in spite all odds, actually happened, no one was more surprised than me! Who would have thought? Our backyard annual MS party/fundraiser has been ongoing for three years now. It has been trial and it
has been error, but mostly it has been so much fun, lending itself delightfully to the fact that one’s own backyard is a good place to be, especially when it is filled with the warmth that can only be ignited when friends and family get together. And through all the planning and the near mishaps and the good ideas and the bad ideas, my people talked to some other people, and pretty soon, my people and those other people became ‘our people.’ We raised money for MS, but more importantly, for a brief interlude in the ever changing landscape of summer, we did something far more important.
We visited. We laughed. We created memories. And, even though we did raise some dollars for MS, we didn’t create awareness. We didn’t have to! Really, at the end of the day, it may be only one person who has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis but, like a pebble thrown into a pond, everyone in that person’s life is affected. It’s called the ripple effect. Hosting a backyard party/MS fundraiser, in itself, tells part of the story of the ripple effect. Who knows the rest of the story? It has yet to be told!

Production:
It was a given. My party would be the number one summer event of the year! No one, who was anyone, would want to miss it! I, or at least my imagination, was on a roll now. Quickly, I displaced my first thought with a new one. The party that I had created in my mind all of two seconds ago would not be just any old party. It would be a party/fundraiser. I thought of a donation jar. All funds raised would go towards multiple sclerosis. I pictured the big cookie jar I have in my kitchen; the one with strawberries painted all over it. It was usually empty anyway; why not fill it with dollars? I was so happy on this morning when the sunlight danced about in my basement like a little golden elf come to life and, my mind, unfettered by the chains of reality, gleefully went about planning the party of the year. I kept on planning all the way to work, which takes about 40 minutes. If it weren’t for the threat of deadlines, I would have kept right on planning, ex-
In the space of three days, during the time I was present at the 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, I never had a conscious moment without hearing the sound of a motorcycle. There was talk, between the riders Sid and I had met along the way, about an estimated one million
bikes attending the rally. It was assumed that it was an infrastructure impossibility for that many bikes to be within a radius of a few miles of Sturgis all at once — regardless of the actual bike count, the event was oversaturated with motorcycles and motorcyclists. I enjoy the sound of a V-Twin engine; however, the noise pollution was a little much to contend with when I was trying to sleep off a hangover, brush my teeth, find a decent outhouse, or have a clear thought. It wasn’t like camping out at Open Creek for a few days. There was no peace from the sound of a motorcycle engine even during a day ride out into the black
hills. Sid and I and the rest of the Australian riders stayed as a group at the Glencoe campground. Upon meeting up, there was very little hesitation among us to enter the Full Throttle Saloon — a place I was told from previous Sturgis goers that “I just had to go see”. The Full Throttle Saloon could be described as if all the Mad Max movies came to life as a living breathing establishment that served beer to bikers — it was berserk. The motorcycle citadel held multiple live music stages, motorcycle apparel shops, tattoo booths, food outlets, burnout pits, zip lines, old bridges, welded iron art, mud, motorcycles, and
booze. There was nothing tame about what our group of riders stumbled into. I seemed to befriend a nice young lady, with tattoos what would put my own to shame, which has happy to sell me a shot of the Full Throttle Moonshine whenever our paths crossed. After many encounters, she said we had to come watch her show. There were few words spoken that could be repeated to described what we all saw on one of the stages. A group of performers, that included my new friend, would suspend themselves from ropes and hooks placed in the skin of their upper backs — then they would swing around … I ran into
this nice young lady once again after her suspension show, she asked if I liked the performance and I wasn’t sure how to reply so I said yes. She smiled and stuck out her tongue — it was split down the center like a lizard. It has been a few days since I departed from the rally and started riding my motorcycle home. I’m just beginning to consolidate the rich experience I had in the Black Hills. Regardless of the madness, the motorcycles, the nudity, the music, the barbeque, and the explosive good time Sturgis was, the best moments I had were sitting in the campsite sharing a laugh with the mates I rode my motorcycle with.

Charges laid, one man only charged in Rimbey break-ins BY TREENA MIELKE
Only one of two men who were allegedly responsible for break-ins at the Servus Credit Union and the Esso Gas Station in Rimbey has been charged, and the incidents are still being investigated. Zane Curtis Bronson was handed 35 charges by the RCMP on August 7 in relation to the Rimbey break-ins as well as incidents in Breton and Hinton. He appeared in Breton provincial court on Aug. 12 to face charges of dangerous driving and failure to stop for police. He also faces two charges of assault with a weapon on a police officer and possession of break-in instruments. He is looking at three charges of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and one charge of possession of stolen property over $5,000. He has been charged with driving while prohibited, resisting arrest and mischief and also faces various firearms and traffic related offences. He will appear in Hinton provincial court on Aug. 19 to answer to the charges of break and enter, administering a noxious thing, assault with a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle and theft over $5,000. He will appear in Rimbey provincial court on Sept. 4 to answer to the charges of theft of a motor vehicle, arson to a vehicle, possession of a firearm while committing an indictable offence and possession of a firearm dangerous to the public peace. He is also facing two break and enter charges, two charges of break-in instruments, two charges of having his face masked and two charges of mischief under $5,000 as well as a charge of mischief over $5,000. Bronson will also appear in Mayerthorpe provincial court on August 13 and Edmonton provincial court on August 17 for outstanding warrants. Andy William Rogers, 34, of Penhold faces eight charges in relation in the incident in Breton. He appeared in Breton provincial court on Aug. 12 for possession of break-in instruments, three charges of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and one charge of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and three firearms related charges. “At this time there is no evidence to support a charge against Rogers for the Rimbey break-ins,” said Sgt. Josee Valiquette, Alberta RCMP Media Relations Officer. Valiquette encourages the public to notify the Rimbey RCMP or Crime Stoppers if they have any information about the incident. “This situation could have been a recipe for disaster,” said Superintendent Kevin Murray, Acting District Commander of RCMP Central District. “I was very happy to hear that neither the general public, nor my members, were injured while apprehending these men.” The two men were arrested Aug. 7 after officers observed a truck driving at high speeds on Hwy. 22 about 35 kilometres north of Rocky Mountain House. The officers pulled the vehicle over, but the truck driver rammed the police patrol car, and later appeared to attempt to run over an officer who had gotten out of the police car. The officer was not injured and the driver took off pursued by the police. The chase ended when the occupants of the truck left the vehicle and took off on foot. They were apprehended by the police just before noon on Aug. 7. Officers found a loaded long barreled shotgun, stolen property, over $2,000 in cash, cartons of cigarettes and stolen identification documents including license plates.

Bentley senior’s pie social very popular BY JUNE NORVILA
Each year following the Bentley parade on the Thursday of fair/rodeo week there is a exodus from main street of anyone who considers himself a senior over to the Bentley Community Church gymnasium to attend the free pie social offered. It has been hosted there by the ladies of the Outlet Get-Together Club for many years and has become well known for serving up its variety of homemade pies and for a place to sit and visit. There is not much space to visit anymore. For many years there have been lineups outside the church doors with people waiting for space to get in. This year was no exception, and the lineup seemed even longer. Every kind of pie imaginable seemed to be there, from many standard fruit pies and cream pies to more exotic pies, and even pies

for diabetics. A lot of pieces of pie were served! Club member Lorraine Connolley said, “We went through at least 60 pies (this year). We believe this was our best turn out yet for the pie social.”
Door prizes were again dawn for throughout the afternoon. This year the five door prizes were copies of the club’s newly published “The Back Burner” cookbook. The book had been in the works for a while but a
real push was put on to have it available in time for the fair with Bentley’s Centennial theme this year. “We were really pleased with the cookbook and the response we got in sales during the weekend,” stated Connolley. Copies of the “The Back Burner” are available at Earthy Accents in Bentley or from Sandy Noble (7482280).
The Get-Together Club is one of the rare clubs that is not suffering from lack of members. Club members include Alexis Skeels, Sandy Turnbull, Tammy McDiarmid, Sandy Noble, Karen Park, Diana Spelt, Shirley Sawyer, Faye Cummins, and Tracy Brown, Bonnie Hoskin, Jamie Milot, Marcia Bruns, Lorraine Connolley, Candace Bajema, Kathy Wiese,
Shirley Talsma, Stephanie Carlson, Celina Colgrave, Cindy Rose, and Florrie Skjonsberg with honorary members Jean Fraser, Mae Reimer, Rose Skeels, and Fern Snow. Club members much appreciate having the use of the Bentley Community Church to host their event each year and are already looking forward to next year’s pie social.
One year has gone by fast. We would like to invite you in for coffee and cookies to help us celebrate our first anniversary.

Pas Ka Poo Park to celebrate 50th anniversary this Saturday BY TREENA MIELKE
Fifty years ago, thanks to the efforts of a group of dedicated volunteers, Rimbey’s museum and Pas Ka Poo Historical Park officially opened. On Aug. 22, Rimbey Historical Society will celebrate the park’s 50th
anniversary. The event will begin after Saturday’s Farmers Market and it promises to be a gala affair with several interesting activities for both young and old planned. A sawmill demonstration will be held west of the truck museum and truck, tractor and machinery dis-
plays will be ongoing as well historical building tours throughout the afternoon. A concession will be available and 50/50 draws will be held. The closing ceremonies will be held at 4 p.m. Fred Schutz, who spearheaded the volunteer effort to create the park and Ken

The Pas Ka Poo Park became the new home for Rimbey’s first church, narrowly saving the building from the demolition crews or being sold after it was deemed too small for its growing congregation. The building was slated to be torn down or sold to Heritage Park in Calgary when a group of volunteers, headed by newspaper columnist Fred Schutz, stepped forward to save the church and preserve Rimbey’s heritage. Thanks to their efforts, Rimbey’s first church, The Church of Epiphany, built in 1908 with vertical logs, is now an interesting cornerstone of the historical village. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers including Schutz, J. Martin, L. R. MacManus, Jack Parry, Chester Rimbey, Dr. C.C. Spence and Rev. Keith Stokes, the Rimbey Historical Society was incorporated on May 19, 1964. In 1965 Rimbey’s museum and historical park opened and since that time it has continued to expand. The village at Pas Ka Poo Park allows visitors to take a delightful journey through yesteryear. As well as the church, visitors are encouraged to check out the original
Bluffton Legion Hall which houses several veterans’ artifacts, a barber shop store and meat market built in 1915 and a train station from the early 1900s along with a wooden caboose built in 1947. Also located on the premises is the Kansas Ridge School, Rimbey’s first school, built in 1902. Rimbey town office, built as a residence in 1915, prior to becoming the town office is also housed in the historical village as is a hand hued log homesteader’s cottage built in 1932. Near the park’s playground are replicas of a local blacksmith shop and trapper’s cabin. Just outside the trapper’s cabin stands ‘The Traveler’, a chain saw creation done by local artist Darren Jones and donated by his family in 2002. In January, 1991 the Rimbey Historical Society added a museum to house Ken Smithson’s collection of 19 restored International pick-up trucks and The Smithson International Truck museum was created. The collection spans over 40 years and is the most complete collection in the world. An extensive license plate collection and many vintage photographs are displayed in the truck museum.

Even though more than 100 golfers have registered for The Rimbey FCSS golf tournament to be held this Thursday (Aug. 20); there is room for more. Executive director Petty Makofka said no one would be turned away who wants to take part in the fifth annual Texas scramble tournament to be held at Spruce Haven golf course. “I have ordered extra carts,” she said. “It is pasture golf and a fundraiser and it promises to be a lot of fun.” This year a photo booth has been introduced as an added attraction. The day will begin with a breakfast at around 7:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start for the tournament. Perry Jamart, from Street Heat Inc. (specializing in high rods and muscle cars) will be the celebrity golfer. A 1968 Acadia and a 1956 Chevy will be on display. MLA Jason Nixon will be in attendance as well as representatives from the town and Ponoka County. A caesar hole, a margarita hole, and lots of prizes will add to the fun. Dollars raised through the golf tourney will go toward family services such as family counseling, healthy families, young parent outreach, the early childhood development coalition and the community wellness group. Funding will also go towards a new program called ‘welcome new Canadians’.

Buccaneers place third continued from page 1 While the Bucs previous woes with penalties were greatly diminished, there were two touchdowns that were lost due to infractions. “We’ve improved our discipline, but need to keep working,” said one of the Buccaneer squad. Defensively, the Bucs were as vicious as ever; #8 Troy Pappas, the quarterback for the Stars, was under pressure all night and suffered numerous sacks. As a result, the Stars offense was rarely on the field for longer than two plays before they had to punt the ball away. The pirate special teams flew all over the field, pinning the Stars ball carriers deep while marching with their own. As a result, the Bucs enjoyed favourable field position for much of the game. At halftime, the Bucs celebrated the conclusion of a season-long fundraiser. Partnered with the Whisker Rescue Society (a shelter for stray cats in Central Alberta), the team sold $2 raffle tickets at each home game that would decide who would “Win a Date with 38” (team chairman and player, Todd Lewis #38). Over 300 tickets were sold and majority of the proceeds went to Whisker Rescue (which will greatly assist in the organization’s daily operations). Jen Sampson of Red Deer won the raffle and, as a result, a date with Todd Lewis. The Bucs (5-2) are now looking forward to week nine against the 2015 expansion Airdrie Irish (2-5) in their final game of the regular season. While the Irish have had a rocky induction into the AFL (including a 100-0 blowout against the Fort McMurray Monarchs), the Bucs “can’t take them for granted.” In addition to the game, both teams are competing to see which squad can raise the most pledges for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. To raise the stakes, the losing team’s chairman has promised to attend his every-day job dressed entirely in pink. Those who wish to donate are asked to message the Bucs facebook page or website: www.cabucs.com. - SUBMITTED

New face at Rimbey RCMP Detachment BY TREENA MIELKE
Rimbey RCMP detachment has a new face on board. Cst. Tommy de Roos has joined the force, coming directly from the RCMP training depot in Regina.
“I’m getting used to it and it really is a pretty cool little town. Everybody is very friendly.” Cst. Tommy de Roos
de Roos, who is from Vancouver, said he had never heard of Rimbey before being posted here. He said he was told weeks before graduation that he would be going to Rimbey. “It was a shock to me. I had asked to go back to the lower mainland,” he said. “I had never heard of Rimbey.” He began his job on June 10.
“I first thought wow, it is small. There are not even any traffic lights.” However, after a few months of living and working here he is becoming quite comfortable with life in a small town. “I’m getting used to it and it really is a pretty cool little town. Bentley holds huge celebration
Breakfast: Volunteers at the pancake breakfasts held in Bentley during the rodeo and fair and centennial celebrations were kept busy serving huge crowds each morning. BY TREENA MIELKE
The town of Bentley was a happening place last weekend as young and old and visitors and residents alike gathered together to enjoy the town and country fair and the centennial birthday activities. It appeared that every event throughout the celebration was a huge success. Mitch Spicer, who attended the car show with his ’67 Dodge Dart Convertible and his dog, a Rottweiler Husky
named Chester, said he very much enjoyed the car show. Spicer is from Calgary, but spends his summers in Sylvan Lake. “I come to the car show every year,” he said. Musicians Aric Frose and Samuel Hayden from Red Deer entertained at the Farmers Market, gathering a few dollars tossed into their open guitar case from people at the market who stopped to enjoy the music. “We love it,” the young men said. “We wouldn’t do it, if it wasn’t fun.”

Laurie Breeze from Sylvan Lake, who had a booth set up inside the curling rink, said she had never seen the market so busy. “There really is a good crowd here today,” she said. Joe Congo from Entwistle brought his mechanical bull to Bentley, providing entertainment for young and not so young cowboys and cowgirls who came along to try their luck riding the huge mechanical animal. “It drew a good crowd,” said Congo. “And they all had lots of fun.” Artist Bonnie Hoskin’s presentation of portraits of senior residents of Bentley was poignant, timely and, certainly, an interesting addition to the bazaart show and sale. “This project was undertaken to honor the senior citizens of Bentley and area for their contribution, over the years, to the community,” she said. Hoskin’s portraits will be given free of charge to the participants. “This is to be considered a gift from myself as a thank you for all they have done for the Town of Bentley and surrounding area. It has been most rewarding and I consider the project a success.”

Bench show exhibits, sponsored by the Bentley Ag Society, continue at the Bentley fair. There are usually six sections: baking, canning and preserves; crafts, hobbies, and amateur photography; drawing, painting, and framed amateur photography; horticulture; sewing and stitchery; and school exhibits. Few places still have these old-fashioned displays and competition. It is staged in the Bentley curling rink. Joan Dickau, Bentley bench show convener for crafts, hobbies, and amateur photography noted entries in the crafts section were down from last year to 37 from 48. There were six pre-school entries , 17 juniors, three young adult, and 11 adult entries. Entries were also slightly down from 209 to 196 in the Amateur Photography; 13 pre-school, 61 juniors, 12 young adult and 110 adult entries. Most placed very well and won a ribbon and prize money. There were also a total of seven sponsored special prizes. The Best of Show project belonged to Rocky & Sharon Poteur of Bentley. They entered a decorative box made out of over 2,200 pieces. Best Young Adult project was awarded to Brody Beveridge of Bentley for his wooden model house. Best Horse Photo, sponsored by Hassan Arabians, went to Tammy Christensen of Regina. Best Storm Photo, sponsored by Joan Dickau, was entered by Helen Petterson from Sylvan Lake. High Point Junior Boy went to Garrett Christensen from Regina and High Point Junior Girl was Aislynn Petterson of Sylvan Lake. Both these awards were sponsored by Bentley Ag Society. Best Scrapbooking, sponsored by Leslie Garries (Creative Memories), was not awarded this year. Dickau feels attendance was about the same as usual but added, " It was great to have the sewing section up and running this year.” There was such a hole in the bench show last year. Thanks to Michelle Ostrikoff for taking it over along with her baking section." Last year no convener had been found for the Sewing and Stitchery section and had been cancelled.

TRENSON Georges Marcel Trenson of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the age of 79 years after a short, but courageous battle of cancer. Georges was born on February 23, 1936 in Dudzele, Belgium, the oldest son of André and Euphrasie Trenson. He grew up on a small farm in Dudzele where he went to school until he was 14 years old, then he went to work. He was in the army for 18 months. Georges married Georgine Vande Ryse, the love of his life, (also from Dudzele) in 1962. Dad’s dream was to farm, but with little opportunity in Belgium, he and Georgine immigrated to Canada. They traveled on the Ryndan from Rotterdam to Québec City. From there they traveled by train to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Here Georges was employed by McDougal Bros. on a feedlot. After four years in Maple Creek, they purchased a farm in Rimbey and farmed there for nearly 50 years. They raised their family and Dad was proud to build up his farm with his children working at his side. Dad believed in two things; family and faith. His world revolved around both. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, his love of hard work, and his ability to work with his hands. He will be cherished in the hearts of his family forever. Georges will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved wife, Georgine; his three sons all of Rimbey: Marc; Luc (Marian) and their children: Heidi, Ben, Leah, and Tim; and John (Holly) and their children: Erica, Amy, and Todd; and his two daughters, Ann Marie (Larry) Trautman of Rimbey and their children: Monica, Darryl, Jessica, and Sylvia; and Rose Marie (Gerald) Smith of Eckville and their children: Eve, Pierce, and Merrick. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Roger (MarieLouise) Trenson; and his sister, Andrea (Asere) Tack, all of Belgium; as well as Georgine’s Family: one sister, Jacqueline and Pierre (†) Lannoye; and three brothers: Jacques and Georgette Vande Ryse; Georges and Cecile (†) Vande Ryse; and Marc and Martha Vande Ryse. Georges was predeceased by his parents, André and Euphrasie. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Rimbey on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Father Les Drewicki, Celebrant. A Private Family Interment followed in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Georges’ Memory may be made directly to the 4-H Foundation of Alberta, R.R. 1, Westerose, Alberta T0C 2V0; or to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre, 3942 - 50A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 4E7. WASHKEVICH Michael Aug. 21, 1925 - Aug.10, 2015 On August 10 Michael peacefully left this world. Michael will be sadly missed by his loving family and many dear friends. Michael was born in Laskow Poland and was the eldest son of Elizabeth and Konan Washkevich. In 1934 he immigrated to Canada with his mother, to join Konan at the family homestead west of Rimbey Alberta. Michael later had his own farm at Leedale, Alberta. He met his wife Nettie and they were married on June 6, 1955. They raised their family on the farm until moving to Red Deer in 1976 where they spent thirty-eight years. Michael leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Nettie: three daughters Irene Aldrich, Olga Stern and Debbie Baudais, and numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren: his four siblings Mary Leblanc, Nena Rowat, Peter Washkevich and Nadia Papp. Michael was preceded in death by his daughter Anne Kimenius. He will be remembered as a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. A Celebration of Life was held from Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer on Monday, August 17th, 2015 at 11:00 AM. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, #202, 5913-50 Ave., Red Deer, AB. T4N 4C4.
