Kootenay News Advertiser Friday, September 4, 2015 Total cost and damage for the 2015 forest fire season continues to track at a similar pace as last year, with 296,000 hectares burned and $255 million spent as of Monday. That’s above the 10-year average for B.C. fires, but lower than the worst seasons in recent years, in 2003 and 2009.

Photo BCWildfire Service

Paulson Pass fire northeast of Christina Lake. Evacuation alerts were lifted Monday for Grand Forks and Christina Lake. By Tom Fletcher Campfire bans have been lifted for most of B.C. heading into the Labour Day weekend, and rain in most areas of the province has helped crews make progress on most of the 176 fires burning in B.C. as of Monday. Campfire bans are lifted in the Kamloops and Southeast fire centres, although restrictions continue on use of burn barrels and fireworks. No fire bans remain across northern B.C., and the only remaining campfire ban is in the Cariboo fire centre for areas west of the Fraser River. Kevin Skrepnek, chief information officer for the B.C. Wildfire Service, cautioned that areas of high and extreme fire danger remain in the Chilcotin, South Thompson River valley and the southern part of the Prince George fire centre. But continued cool weather and showers this week offer some relief for communities and firefighters. “Just about all our major fires took at least a little bit of rain over the weekend, and this has certainly made some significant progress,” Skrepnek said. Some of the most threatening fires have eased. Evacuation orders for the Testalinden Creek fire near Oliver were downgraded to alerts Monday, and alerts were lifted for Grand Forks and Christina Lake as B.C. and U.S. crews made progress on the Stickpin fire burning near the border in Washington.

The Weekend View

BC Views: Alaska sits in judgement of BC by Tom Fletcher Energy and Mines Minister Bill Bennett spent much of last week in Alaska, trying to assure local fishermen and environmentalists that B.C.’s mine approval process is “basically the same” as Alaska’s. Bennett visited an abandoned mine in northwest B.C. that continues to leak acid and metal pollution into the Taku River, vowing to supervise cleanup by a new operator. He noted that one of B.C.’s proposed new mines includes a 23-km pipe system to move ore out of the shared watershed for processing. This is typical of the discourse between B.C. and our American cousins. Only our industry is questioned. Meanwhile in Colorado, the latest mine spill disaster was blamed on a mistake by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. And in Alaska as in the rest of the U.S., new metal mines such as the giant Pebble project depend on the same engineering and testing as ours. Here in Victoria, the Fantasy Island dialogue about oil continued, with Green Party leader Elizabeth May calling a news conference to announce she is (brace yourself) opposed to pipelines and tankers on the B.C. coast. She stood at Clover Point, where daily Alaska crude tankers sail past, many on their way to vast refinery complexes

just out of sight at Anacortes and Cherry Point in Washington. A good portion of B.C.’s gasoline comes from there. Without a drunkcaptain incident since 1989, these tankers load up at the terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. Let’s take a closer look. For 47 years, the pipeline has pumped huge volumes of oil across Alaska from the charming northern outpost of Deadhorse to Valdez in the south, just east of Anchorage where cruise ships dock. In his new book, Rust: The Longest War, science writer Jonathan Waldman calls it “the biggest, baddest oil pipeline in the world. “From Prudhoe Bay to Prince William Sound, the TransAlaska Pipeline System stretches 800 miles, which leaves engineer Bhaskar Neogi accountable for one of the heaviest metal things in the Western Hemisphere, through which the vast majority of Alaska’s economy flows,” Waldman writes. “Daily, the four-foot steel tube spits out $50 million of oil.” It was once the largest private infrastructure in the U.S. Today it’s the most regulated pipeline in the world, with planes flying infrared sensors to detect leaks of warm oil and “line walkers” looking for soft spots in the permafrost. And this isn’t lowfat, shade-grown oil for Seattle fuel-sippers.

It struggles to flow, with a black asphalt bottom and thick wax that has to be scraped out of the pipeline by the ton with giant “pigs” that clean and monitor walls for corrosion. The five Prudhoe Bay oilfields have been declining in production for 20 years, to the point where the Trans-Alaska pipeline now carries about a quarter of its design capacity. It’s expected to run out around 2040, but for now Valdez still loads more than a tanker a day. Waldman writes that when North America’s largest oilfield was discovered in 1968, companies first considered extending the Alaska Railroad up to Deadhorse. But they would have needed 63 trains a day of 100 cars each. Trucks, cargo planes and even nuclear-powered submarines running under the Arctic ice were briefly considered. Since we had a bit of hand-wringing last week about a small earthquake near Fort Nelson that may or may not have been triggered by hydraulic fracturing, it’s worth noting that TransAlaska oil also causes noticeable tremors as it rushes down the Chugach Mountains to a sudden stop at Valdez. But those are American earthquakes, so no story there. Tom Fletcher is legislature reporter and columnist for Black Press. Twitter: @tomfletcherbc Email: tfletcher@ blackpress.ca.

Letter: Quality Hunting I was shocked to read in your Aug. 27 hunting supplement that Limited Entry Hunting and antler point restrictions are good for resident hunters. (“Residents for quality hunting,” p. 13) I wondered who besides the guides could advocate keeping many of our fel-

low resident hunters out of the bush so that a few could enjoy a “quality” hunt. I have since learned that the article came from a group affiliated with the Guide Outfitters Association of BC. The article goes on to say that “Unfounded concerns have been raised about consis-

tently harvesting [the trophy] component of the population.” Is 18 years of a general open season on 6-point elk, the prime breeding bulls, a good idea? Of course not. None of the western states has ever had such a season. The article also claims that “Managing for a quality experience is biologically sound.” Managing for

the health and welfare of the herds is what is biologically sound. For most resident hunters, a quality hunt is one that ends with meat in the freezer. However, being required to search for a scarce and elusive 6-point in order to accomplish that goal can be more than a little frustrating. ~Jean Samis Cranbrook, BC

It is inspiring to see what can be achieved when various groups get together for a common goal. We all appreciate the natural beauty, biodiversity, and resources in the East Kootenay region and we all need to protect these values. Invasive plants are a threat to our environment, economy, and social aspects, but we need to work collaboratively to effectively manage these weeds. In some instances, shared land use may

obscure who is actually responsible to manage a site where there are a variety of potential impacts to these natural values. For instance, communication towers on crown land often have several tenure-holders with a permit to occupy a site, as well as the obligation to keep the premises in a clean condition. In 2014, Allana Oestreich, Ecosystems Biologist with the Ministry of Forests, Lands, & Natural

C o m m u n i c a t i o n s. MFLNR, HCTF, CBC, and Shaw partnered with the East Kootenay Invasive Plant Council (EKIPC) to determine how to best manage the access road and site. In a shining display of corporate stewardship, funds were pooled by all partners to treat spotted knapweed in order to encourage the growth of native plant species. EKIPC’s Field

O p e r a t i o n s Coordinator, Katie Young, monitored the effectiveness of the treatments this summer and was astounded at how successful the treatments were. “As I drove to the site, I thought I was on the wrong road because the areas previously infested with knapweed were now

weed-free”. In addition to monitoring the site, Young released hundreds of weevils which feed exclusively on the target species, acting as a biological control. Oestreich intends to use this partnership as a template for other crown land occupiers to ensure compliance with the provincial

Archbishop urges flock to stay faithful in recent city visit

PHOTO SUBMITTED

Archbishop Irénée, the ruling Archbishop for the Candian diocese of the Orthodox Church in America, made a very special visit to the city recently. For the Advertiser The

ruling

Archbishop for the Canadian diocese of the Orthodox Church

in America (OCA), Archbishop Irénée was here in Cranbrook

visiting and encouraging the parishioners of one of the small-

est parishes of the churches and monasteries under his protection; St. Aidan of Lindisfarne Orthodox Mission Parish (established in 2007). While the Orthodox Church is the second largest Christian church in the world with more than 250 million members, only about one to two per cent of these live in North America. Most of the Orthodox Churches worship in the language of the country they are named after, but they are in communion with each other, celebrate the same Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, and all trace their beginnings back to Christ and the

very first apostles rather than any other individual. In the Greek Orthodox Church you would generally worship in Greek, in the Russian Orthodox Church in Russian, in the Antiochian Orthodox Church in Arabic, etc. However in the Orthodox Church of America (OCA), where visiting Archbishop Irénée is the Canadian head, English is generally the language of worship. There is no common ethnic identity at St. Aidan’s although many ethnic groups are represented, just typical Canadians for the most part eh. Archbishop Irénée’s main message of

encouragement to his Cranbrook flock was to stay faithful to the faith that had been protected and delivered to them by the saints throughout every generation since Christ, and to simply love everyone that Christ would send to the community of St. Aidan’s. Christ came not to judge the world but to save it through His great and sacrificial love for all of mankind, and our calling is to love with this same love. It was a great blessing to be with such a warm, gentle and loving Shepard, May God grant him many more years of service!

2015 Dodge Grand Caravan It’s the end of an era as the sun sets on this iconic people mover, and we bid a fond farewell and a final salute to this quintessential minivan. As you can tell, we’ve gone overboard with clichés for the Dodge Grand Caravan. Dare we say that after all these years, all the clichés might be used up. The vehicle that began life in November of 1983 as the Caravan was, along with the Plymouth/ Chrysler Voyager, an automotive game-changer that practically no one saw coming. Try as they might, neither General Motors or Ford could knock Chrysler Corporation’s so-called “Magic Wagons” off their perches. The Caravan and Voyager, plus the Chrysler Town & Country that arrived a few years later, were no doubt inspired by the rear-engine Volkswagen Beetle-based Type 2 van that dates back to 1950. But, to use another cliché, good things don’t last forever, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) will phase out the Canadian-built Grand Caravan. The automaker isn’t saying exactly when the final curtain will fall, but the word from FCA’s public relations folks is that it will

stick around at least for the 2016 model year and will co-exist alongside a brand new Town & Country. Beyond that, the T&C will compete solo with the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona and Nissan Quest. As well, the Ford Transit Connect van, which is primarily purchased for commercial duty, can also be configured for carrying up to seven passengers. Physically, the Grand Caravan has retained the same boxy shape for seven or more years, although a significant revision for 2011 included a 283-horsepower 3.6-litre V6. It replaced the previous 3.3and 3.8-litre V6s that made 175 and 197 horsepower, respectively. The 3.6, which is mated to a sixspeed automatic transmission, has made a world of difference for GC buyers who can count on considerably greater performance when fully loaded with up to 1,633 kilograms of trailer weight. The engine also gives satisfactory punch when overtaking and when ascending hills. And despite what you might think, the extra power came without any fuel consumption penalty (the rating is 13.7 l/100 km in the city and 9.4 highway).

BANKRUPTCY? REPOSSESSION? BAD CREDIT? HIGH INTEREST?

Other improvements included fancier interior trim, a restyled dashboard with soft-touch surfaces and updated telematics. But if there’s one word that best describes the GC, it would be versatility. The standard Stow ’n Go split-folding third-row seat can be conveniently stored beneath the

load floor, using just one hand, as can the optional second-row captain’s chairs. The resulting flat load surface provides enough space for a significant amount of cargo, or it can even be used as a two-person camper. With the seats left in place, the three below-floor bins can keep a

variety of large-size valuables hidden from view. Another important GC feature has to be its attractive price. The base CVP (Canadian Value Package) lists for $21,600 and comes with most of the frequently requested features of the air/cruise/ tilt and power-windows variety. The SE adds the Stow ’n Go second-row fold-flat seats plus tri-zone climate control (driver, passenger and second-row) and centre floor console, while the SXT comes with power sliding side doors, power liftgate and a roof rack. Atop the Grand Caravan’s pecking order, the R/T has what the company calls a sport suspension, premium nine-speaker sound system, leather-trimmed seats, backup camera and a unique set of alloy wheels. Numerous option packages let you dress up your GC with all sorts of up-level items. Of note is the Blacktop Package that as you might guess blacks out all of the exterior trim and adds gloss black paint to the standard 17-inch wheels. The impending demise of the GC will leave a hole in Dodge’s lineup and likely make minivan purchases less affordable. The 2016 Town and Country is expected to start in the low- to mid-$30,000 range, which is roughly the starting point for the Odyssey and Sienna minivans. Cliché or not, it’s sad to see the utility-driven Grand Caravan fade from view.

Safety Tip:

While the demise of the Grand Caravan might seem like no big deal, the problem is that young families, frugal seniors and bargain hunters in general will have nowhere to turn to get their minivan kicks.

Invasive plants are all around the City of Cranbrook and can pose a serious threat to wildlife, the economy, recreation and the environment. You may have also heard them referred to as noxious weeds. Spotted knapweed is one of dozens of invasive plants found in the Province and has become more and more prevalent around the City. Responsibility to help control invasive plants lies with individual property owners, businesses and the City of Cranbrook in public spaces and City owned properties. The BC Weed Control Act “imposes a duty on all land owners and occupiers to control designated noxious plants” – which includes knapweed species. The City of Cranbrook also conducts its own extensive Noxious Weed Control program annually on City see Invasive page 19

Campfire prohibition rescinded in area The Southeast Fire Centre rescinded its campfire prohibition due to cooler and wetter conditions in the forecast and a decreased wildfire risk in the region. The following activities are now allowed: * Campfires no larger than a half-metre wide by a half-metre high. * An open fire in an outdoor stove. Anyone who lights a campfire must have a hand tool (such as a shovel) or atleast eight litres of water available to fully extinguish it. Never leave acampfire unat-

tended and make sure that the ashes are completely cold to thetouch before leaving the area for any length of time. A map of the area where the campfire prohibition has been lifted isavailable online at: http://bit. ly/1dMzbdA Small backyard burning piles (Category 2 open fires) remain prohibited within the Southeast Fire Centre. These prohibitions include: * The burning of any material in a pile larger than a halfmetre wide by a halfmetre high, up to two

metres wide by three metres high. * The burning of stubble or grass in an area covering up to 0.2 hectares. * Fireworks, sky lanterns and burning barrels. * The use of binary exploding targets. * The use of air curtain burners (forced air burning systems). Category 3 open fires continue to be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre’s jurisdictional area. These prohibitions cover all BC Parks, Crown lands and private lands, but do

not apply within the boundaries of a local government that has forest fire prevention bylaws and is serviced by a fire department. Please check with local governments for any other restrictions before lighting any fire. Anyone found in contravention of an open burning prohibition may be issued a ticket for $345, required to pay an administrative penalty of $10,000 or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail. If the contravention

causes or contributes to a wildfire, the person responsible may be ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs. To report a wildfire, abandoned campfire or open burning violation, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone. 38TH ANNUAL

Kootenay Country

FAIR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 - 9-4:30pm

Canada International Piano Institute (CIPI) will launch this weekend with a GarageBook-Music Sale at Kimberley United Church on Saturday September 5 from 9 to 3, then concerts by Arne Sahlen at Centre 64 on Sunday Sept 6, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Admission is by donation to CIPI. Along with a good deal of showy, suave and sensitive piano music, Sahlen will talk of CIPI. The plan for July 2016 inaugural session is two weeks for the varied music study common in Canadian norms, then two weeks of the

intense Conservatory focus usual in Asia. Sahlen challenges Cranbrook to build on a strength that surprised and delighted him. “Last Spring I accompanied many singers in the music festival, and played for brilliant young music-theatre vocalist Clara MacLeod and the splendid mezzosporano Amanda Weatherall in public concerts. The vocal focus in this small city and area dazzled me – right up from a great bunch of young guys singing “Kings of New York” to deeply moving opera and exciting music theatre. C’mon, Cranbrook! Match Kimberley with

Job

voice programs that may draw people from near and far. There are no major summer programs within 400 km; our cities could foster East Kootenay excellence and even fame in two vital field of music.” CIPI draws a renowned Hong Kong pianist; google Anthony Tam, Steinway for details. Tam and Sahlen have worked since 2007 or arts and human service. They share a full range from many award-winning students and ‘arts admin’ backgrounds to relief and development. Tam is also the Hong Kong Director of EK-based Cambodia Support

Group (CSG), and flew there with Sahlen for a working visit in 2010. Says Tam, “Every year in Southeast Asia, parents will travel to other countries to seek more knowledge for their children,” he says. “There are some music schools in Asia but we lack a lot of good teachers. Parents are eager to travel to seek advice.” Said Sahlen, “There’s every possibility that Crnabrook and Kimberley could share some of the tasks and even plan some co-operative programs. Why Kimberley? “Small towns have big impact. Look at our many EK sports stars, locally-grown Paralympic splendours, Stanley Cup and Mount Everest conquerors. The goal is top-flight, even world class, music training. “To develop this huge project in my Year 35 here will pay homage to this glorious East Kootenay area while adding a major new artistic component to Kimberley’s summer roster,” Perhaps to Cranbrook as well. Contact CIPI2016@ hotmail.com or 250427-2159 for more details.

It is with heavy hearts and sadness that the family announce the passing of Gordon “Gord” Rice. Gordon was 74 years old and a long time resident of Cranbrook, BC. Gordon was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. In his younger years he played the game of hockey. His love for the game brought him to Cranbrook in the late 1960’s. He played defense for the Cranbrook Royals Hockey team. Gordon began working at the Skookumchuk Pulp Mill in 1969, where he retired after 38 years of service. Gordon had a great passion for the outdoors. He spent many years enjoying hunting, trapping, guiding, fishing and camping. He married Heather in 1991 and together they enjoyed common interests and a love for the Bull River area. Later in his life he developed a rewarding and maddening relationship with the game of golf. Gordon took pride in having a nice yard. A weed would never exist long in his yard. Gordon enjoyed relaxed gatherings and sharing his cooking and did so many times with family and friends. He would often spoil hunters at the guiding camps with his famous recipes. Gordon was always willing to lend a helping hand with family and friends. Gordon is survived by his loving wife Heather. His daughters Heidi (James), Jody (Frank) and Heather’s children Cam (Bonnie), Marnie (Clifford) and Kelly (Scott). His brother Tom (Dorothy) and grandchildren Cody, Linden, Vania, David, Spencer, Carter, Delainey and Farrah. Several nephews and nieces. And many special friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Gladys Rice. In honour of Gordon’s request, there will be no formal service. He wished for a remembrance of him to be at a special place up the Bull River. In lieu of flowers and in Gordon’s honour a donation can be made to the Cranbrook Minor Hockey League, Attn: Carla Thompson, 1777 2nd St. N, Cranbrook, BC V1C 7G9. We all hold fond memories of Gordon that make us smile. He was a man who smiled often, had a unique laugh, and a great sense of humour. He will be forever missed by everyone who knew him. Always in our hearts.

Caution: bears

Feeding by intent or neglect, approaching, watching and photographing bears all contribute to an increase in human/wildlife conflict and the destruction of bears. Bear sightings, bears eating garbage left outdoors, bears eating apples dumped at compost sites and on apple trees in backyards, people approaching, watching and taking photos of bears reported all over Elk Valley communities. After repeated exposure to people and easy access to human food, bears lose their natural fear of people, associate people with food and become bolder. The end result is a potential threat to human safety and the death of a bear. Thanks for giving bears their space and respecting “Bear in Area” notices and trail closures. Fernie Bears accessing garbage and apples at the Fernie Mobile Home Park, Ridgemont, Coal Creek Bridge, Annex Park by the East Fernie bridge and Dike trail by the Leroux Mansion. Bear viewing by the Coal Creek Bridge, people reported approaching bears and taking photos. Cougar sighting reported on Lazy Lizard trail between the P9 junction and the power line. No aggressive behaviour reported. Sparwood Bears reported feeding on apples dumped at the community compost site by the fire hall and by the Causeway Bay hotel. Elkford Bear sightings reported on Alpine Way, Fording Drive and Newgate Crescent. South Country Bear sightings reported behind the gas station in Elko and in Jaffray If you don’t want bears on your property or in your neighborhood jeopardizing your personal safety keep garbage indoors, clean up all fruit trees, dispose of fruit responsibly, avoid areas with bears, give them their space and help your neighbours do the same. 10 Neat Things... Fall Lawn Care

1. Lawn Care is Important. People sometimes forget about fall lawn maintenance, because they feel that the season is over or their only concern is to give the grass one last, good hair cut. Make sure you don’t scalp the lawn. Cutting the lawn too short can cause damage, make your turf more susceptible to disease and increase the need for watering. A good rule of thumb is 2.5 to 3 inches mowing height. 2. Super, Natural Fertilizer. Instead of spending backbreaking hours, raking grass clippings and piling them into the already stuffed compost bin, why not grass-cycle this fall. If you mulch your grass clippings (just run over them with your lawn mower a few extra times) and leave them on the lawn, you actually add nitrogen back into the turf. Grass clippings can return about one kilogram of nitrogen per 100 square metres. 3. Feed Me More! Lawns that have received fertilizer late in the season are often the first to begin growing in the spring. They have developed strong roots, ensuring that the blades made it safely through the winter. Fall lawn fertilizers should be higher in potassium, but lower in nitrogen, one example is the Nurseryland Fall Lawn Blend 6-918. 4. A Bit of Thatch Never Hurt Anyone. You may have been bagging grass clippings, believing this would avoid thatch buildup. However, thatch usually develops from interlinking grass roots. This layer should not get beyond half-inch thick to avoid your grass being deprived of light or rain. But don’t go crazy dethatching - a little thatch can serve as mulch, keeping moisture in and temperatures more even through the winter. 5. Are You a Top Dresser? If you are looking to build up the quality of the soil to benefit your lawn, consider top dressing. This is the process of adding a fine layer of quality soil to the lawn surface. This will even out any hollows that may have developed and stimulate grass to produce new shoots, resulting in a denser grass cover that helps fight back weed and moss infestations. 6. Weeds Not Wanted! Most people try dealing with dandelions in the spring, but the best time for controlling weeds is the fall. Weeds are in your lawn now in their immature form and applying an appropriate product will kill the majority of them or weaken them going into the winter and Mother Nature will finish them off for you. 7. Mind the Moss! Moss can be another unwanted addition to your lawn, especially in soggy or shady areas. Moss removers are best applied in the spring or fall after physically removing the intruding patches. Moss also likes acidic soil, a quick pH soil test will show you if that may be a reason and adding garden lime can help. 8. Imitating Nature. Looking at how grass grows in the wild will give you a good idea that fall is actually a good time to think about seeding a new lawn in your yard. Wild grasses go to seed in the fall, animals step on the seeds to make firm contact with the soil and they add their own “fertilizer”. Fall rains or early snow falls keep the soil nice and moist. 9. Find the Right Blend. Choosing a good quality grass seed that is blended specifically for our climate and the purpose of the area you are seeding will give you best results. Before applying seeds, remove any debris, add soil amendments and establish proper grades to avoid standing water later. Water regularly for at least 10 days, keeping the soil moist but not soggy. 10. No Grass for You, Shade! You can indeed grow a green lawn under trees and in other shady places. There are great lawn seed mixtures out there that feature fescues that thrive in the shade. These plants are usually also drought resistant and grow slowly, reducing the amount of time you need to spend on maintenance.

Hugs: A big hug to Barbara of Kootenay Landscaping for doing such a great job of cleaning up along Victoria Avenue. If only more businesses would keep their storefronts free of garbage. Hugs: Huge hugs to Brandy at the Superstore Mobile Store! Friendly, knowledgeable, patient and caring. Some local cell stores should take some lessons. Hugs: To the City of Kimberley for supplying the community with doggy poo bags. Pretty easy to use people!!!! Hugs: To Dr. Cam at Steeples Veterinary Clinic. Slugs: To the Conservative government that lacks compassion for the public, has numerous scandals, does things in secretive and smack of communism, too dictorial, too hard nosed. Hugs: Thank you to Brian at Affordable Floors for going above and beyond what we expected on a service call. It is rare today to see a company that is still interested in service & customer satisfaction Slugs: To the RDEK, every night approx. 11:30 pm there are water sprinklers going at the front of the building, water kits the light poles and a lot of water is wasted on the parking area Hugs: To the few people out for their daily walks, who take time

out to pick up the garbage around the two corner stores on Victoria Ave. Without citizens like these, it would look like a pigpen around these stores. Isn’t it about time the city put garbage bins along this route so the school kids have a place to put their garbage. Slugs: To the person who put a 2’’ scratch in the hood of my 3 day old Dodge Journey SUV at the Canadian Tire Parking lot. Hugs: To Pat at the KNGB and all the staff at the Youth Sumer Employment Program. Your efforts made a great impact on one young man’s confidence. Thank You! Hugs: To Baker Street Café for providing a fantastic summer work experience opportunity. Thank you from a young man who had the chance to pursue a dream and learn so much. Hugs: To Tara & Tim (leaders of CBK Youth & Youth Impact) for providing a great summer program. It’s nice to know our boys had a safe place to hang out with positive role models. Our summer was so much fun because of you and your program. Hugs: Huge hugs to the road crew that filled all the potholes and rough spots on the east slope of the Skyway.
