HOW TO:

with April Blecker HOW TO:

Dress for the Holidays ‘Tis the season to rock around the Christmas tree drenched in sequins! With Christmas, New Year's Eve and other festive celebrations ahead, they demand a little more dazzle and style than usual. The place and time for the event has been set, however, one final task remains, the outfit. We’ve got you covered, whether it is a fancy or casual affair!

You will want to put your absolute prettiest foot forward and plan a fun and flirty outfit that makes you look and feel fabulous. Avoid any outfits that are too tight, too short, or have a plunging neckline! Importantly you will feel more relaxed and won’t both

HOW TO:

be distracted by wardrobe malfunctions. Pick a dress with a metallic finish or glitzy sequined details, and dress it up or down using accessories. If you have several parties to attend, a black dress can be the perfect ensemble you are looking for, as well as a money saver. You can easily change the entire look with your accessories without appearing to “recycle your party outfits. The Little Black Dress is the most versatile and classic pieces of clothing there is. Throw it on with a pair of high heels for a cocktail party or dress it down with a pair

As Karl Lagerfeld once put it ever so eloquently: “One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress.

Host For The Holidays

With many elegant holiday get-togethers right around the corner, hosting the perfect soiree does not have to be stressful. First, you need to determine whether you would like your guests to attend a sit-down dinner or something more casual, like a cocktail party (for mixing and mingling).

and let your guests merrily munch their way through the festivity. Plus, there’s less cleanup without utensils. For a super-fast and crowd pleasing appetizer table, prepare a fruit and cheese platter. As well as an antipasto plate and hummus drizzled with olive oil and served with breads and crackers. You really can’t go wrong.

Once you have decided what kind of party you're going to host, determine the date, time, guest list, and menu. Then put together a list of people to invite and decide how you're going to get the word out. Make sure to give your guests at least a month’s notice, as dates fill up fast around the holiday season.

It is extremely important to have ambience when hosting a party. Creating the right mood with music, and festive dĂŠcor really brings the whole event together. A wreath hung over a stairwell or glitzy ornaments hung from doorknobs are little touches that make a big impact for your guests.

Sure, you could make an impressive fullcourse meal and be concerned whether you have enough seating arrangements, but why? Instead, choose to serve finger foods

of ankle booties for a casual office get-together. It is also the one of the few articles of clothing that all women with different tastes agree to wear as a universal uniform around the world. It is the signature of style, and is that essential piece of clothing that will take you anywhere, and make you feel amazing!

Pick a signature cocktail with complimentary appetizers and you are on your way to having the perfect party!

Frosty The Snowman

O Holy Night

Frosty the Snowman was a jolly happy soul With a corncob pipe and a button nose, And two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the Snowman is a fairy tale they say, He was made of snow but the children know How he came to life one day. There must have been some magic in That old silk hat they found For when they placed it on his head He began to dance around. Oh, Frosty the Snowman was alive as he could be, And the children say He could laugh and play Just the same as you and me. Thumpety, thump thump, Thumpety, thump thump Look at Frosty go. Thumpety, thump thump, Thumpety, thump thump, Over the hills of snow.

O Holy night! The stars are brightly shining. It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth.

I’ll be Home for Christmas

Long lay the world In sin and error pining, Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope The weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices! Oh night, divine! O night, When Christ was born. O night divine, O night, O night divine.

Let It Snow!

Away in a Manger

Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we’ve no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.

It doesn’t show signs of stopping, And I’ve bought some corn for popping, The lights are turned way down low, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! When we finally kiss goodnight, How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you’ll really hold me tight, All the way home I’ll be warm. The fire is slowly dying, And, my dear, we’re still good-bying, But as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

The stars in the sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes. I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky And stay by my cradle til morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in thy tender care, And take us to heaven, to live with Thee there.

Holiday

GIVING

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus Underneath the mistletoe last night. She didn’t see me creep Down the stairs to have a peek She thought that I was tucked up In my bedroom fast asleep. Then I saw Mommy tickle Santa Claus Underneath his beard so snowy white. Oh what a laugh it would have been, If Daddy had only seen Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night!

CAROLS Silent Night

The First Noel

Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright. Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace

The First Noel the angel did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields as they lay, keeping their sheep, On a cold winter's night that was so deep.

Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight. Glories stream from heaven afar Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia, Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born Silent night, holy night! Son of God love’s pure light. Radiant beams from Thy holy face With dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus Lord, at Thy birth Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel.

This star drew nigh to the northwest, O'er Bethlehem it took it rest, And there it did both stop and stay Right over the place where Jesus lay.

They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east beyond them far, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night.

Then entered in those wise men three Full reverently upon their knee, and offered there in his presence Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense.

And by the light of that same star Three wise men came from country far; To seek for a king was their intent, And to follow the star wherever it went.

Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord; That hath made heaven and earth of naught, And with his blood mankind hath bought

Thinking about heading to the forest to chop down your own Christmas tree? If you’re thinking about that Christmascard-moment in Chilliwack, you better think again. Elsewhere in British Columbia, people interested in cutting their own Christmas tree need a permit (available online or FrontCounter BC office). However, no permits are available in the Chilliwack district due to population density and tree demand.

Local district offices can provide details about specific cutting requirements and approved harvest areas. Free use permits are provided for personal use only - selling a tree cut under a Christmas tree permit or cutting in an unauthorized area is illegal.
