Black: Tell me about Another Love Story?
Ortega: Another love story. It’s a domestic abuse film inspired by my best friend a few years ago. I co-wrote with Randall Morrison. That’s my business partner.
Black: What are some of the challenges you faced working on Another Love Story?
Ortega: Another Love Story is a very emotional journey. Most film shows we shoot depend on location. So everything was shot pretty much out of sequence. One day, we might be happy, crying, making love, or sad. Since it’s a domestic abuse film, there is a lot of physical action. So it was like an emotional roller coaster. At the end of the day, driving home, listening to my experience, and watching that energy out of my body was very heavy to carry.
Black: What are your best moments of filming?
Ortega: When you see everything coming together, super production is crazy. The cast showed up on time, and everyone was doing what they were supposed to be.
Black: What are some challenges you experienced while doing the work that you do?
Ortega: Producing is difficult, challenging, and very technical compared to acting. It’s really difficult to remove that hat and put the makeup on. I’m just grateful for the team I have; they’re very hands-on. They have helped so much.
Black: Do you have any new projects coming up?
Ortega: We just shot a Christmas Story. It is a Christmas film, and I am leading it, and we have three other Afro-Latinos on the set of a beautiful little girl. So we’re very excited because a lot of people will be able to relate.
Black: How are you shaking things in the entertainment industry?
Ortega: Be the change that you want to see. I want to see more people that are Afro-Latinas. Sometimes when Hollywood talks about diversity for Latinas, they’re not speaking of the Afro-Latina because it’s not what they’re used to seeing. That’s why it was so beautiful to bring three upper Latinas as I found myself in this film, and they were amazing. The chemistry and how we flow with each other were great. I feel like it’s a very diverse film and goes from English to Spanish. So people will be able to learn a little more about the culture too.
