What is the main focus of ASIC? ASIC is Australia’s corporate, markets, financial services and consumer credit regulator. ASIC is an independent Australian Government body. We are set up under and administer the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 (ASIC Act), and we carry out most of our work under the Corporations Act. Some of our responsibilities the ASIC Act requires us to: •maintain, facilitate and improve the performance of the financial system and entities in it; •promote confident and informed participation by investors and consumers in the financial system; and •administer the law effectively and with minimal procedural requirements.
What kind of work do employees at ASIC do? ASIC’s graduate program is a 24-month rotational program, with four 6-month rotations in different business areas. You will be involved in challenging and meaningful work that contributes to ASIC’s vision for a fair, strong and efficient financial system. Your work may include: surveillances, investigations, analysing intelligence, analytics, consumer research or even supporting new technologies. The program has various streams such as: Law, Commerce/ Finance/Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Data/Analytics, and Information Technology. The graduate program provides multiple opportunities to connect with your Graduate Cohort. How does the organisation seek its employees? We post advertisements on our Careers website around June/July each year for Graduates beginning the following year.
What qualities does ASIC look for in future graduates? Hiring grads with degrees in: Maths, IT & Computer Sciences; Finance, Accounting, Economics & Business Administration; Humanities; Law & Legal Studies; Sciences. ASIC seeks to recruit individuals from a broad range of disciplines who can contribute to ASIC’s strategic priorities.
