“cats in the music room I have been doing a lot with music these days, not sure why.

odd couple

something dramatic

woman kitting herself

I spend a lot of time drawing places in San Diego. While the trees and architecture seem alien to me (I’m from New England), I also have to admit that the shapes are far more graphically interesting to draw or paint.

reflections on 645 Ash Street, corner of Ash Street and 7th Avenue on Cortez Hill, across the street from the once-famous El Cortez I edited out the jacaranda trees. This is one of my favorite places to draw because the extreme hill creates so many challenging angles from almost anywhere you look. I always bring my drawing classes here.

“Things That Make You Go Eek” For Illozine 14. November 2015 I love working for Illozine, a.d. James O’Brian. He gives you a topic and you can run with it, then submit whatever applies and see what sticks. Definitely just about the best way to work.

Sasges Design, Valentines promo: “finding love in the oddest places (not really new, 2010)

I justify getting the New York Times delivered every day, which I love to read, by then doing a wash or watercolor study from the Arts Section. Also makes a good morning warm-up exercise.

also from the Times. I submitted it to the New Yorker but was ignored.

“Ink”

“Your Sewing Table” This is using leftover elements from the North Park Parking Garage project, specifically the scooter-ess. You can find three of her here. This shows a typical working style for me. I take a page with sketches on it, then try to find a way to make it into a new idea, if I can make it work. It’s like a puzzle.

“Fur Piano” One of my pieces which refers back to my childhood in Providence. We had this piano in the front living room, the door goes into the hallway with staircase; parents left the house for Rome (Bialetti coffee), never to return. Everything went into storage for 30 years, some of it was never recovered. That’s our cat Tavia, looking for something in the file drawers.
