A Very Long Engagement
Kelly, In these pages you will find the moments between the important moments. My camera, constantly by my side, is forever a distraction from the real bits in between the images it captures. As we sometimes joke, I only remember the things I photograph: if we did something, and I didn’t take a picture of it, I generally won’t remember it. When I look at these photos, I remember. Looking at life through the viewfinder allows me to narrow in on the details of experiences and remember more vividly when going through past images. While creating this book, I fondly remembered each moment and felt the happiest two years of my life thus far with all their weight. These images not only mark the good and special times but also the difficult and sad ones. Through all of this, the good and the bad, we have grown stronger. I know that each year will bring its fair share of hardships and difficulties, but each year will also bring us closer together and give us more happiness and joy than the previous one. Just like you often have to wait for me while I stop to take a photo, you’ve had to wait for these photos. Though I know your incredible memory can remember each and every one of these events (possibly even the exact date they occurred) I hope that these photos were worth the wait, and allow you to remember more vividly.
