Equally, if you are planning a church wedding, we welcome you and your guests to enjoy exclusive use of the House for your wedding day and night while hosting your reception here. We are able to hold civil ceremonies in five magnificent State Rooms: the Picture Gallery, the State Dining Room, the Great Room, the Saloon and the Marlborough Room. Each of these has its own style, history and character, and caters to a varying number of guests, so you can be sure to find the ideal setting for your ceremony.
The Picture Gallery The breathtaking sweep of the Picture Gallery, stretching 115 feet, is the perfect location for an atmospheric ceremony.
The State Dining Room Designed in the style of the ballroom in Buckingham Palace, the three spectacular Victorian chandeliers take pride of place in the magnificent State Dining Room.
The Great Room The regal surroundings of the Great Room provide a wonderful backdrop to a memorable and romantic wedding day.
The Marlborough Room The mighty Marlborough Room with its ornate chandeliers and silverware, is a dream setting for civil ceremonies and champagne receptions.
The Saloon The large, atmospheric Saloon with its grand oak staircase, provides an inspirational space for an unforgettable ceremony.
Marquees & Grounds
Marquees can be erected on the lawns next to the House when catering for a more lavish affair, and your private guests can take advantage of the spacious gardens and grounds for a truly splendid occasion. Why not start with a dazzling reception in the State Rooms, before moving your guests into your marquee in the Grounds, or Park? The secluded lawn alongside the State Dining Room provides a wonderful outdoor space in which to host drinks, and an idyllic setting for your celebrations. Secure amidst Althorp’s idyllic private parkland, you would be forgiven for thinking that urban life was a million miles away.
The Stables
From Dusk To Dawn
Enjoy exclusive use of the House for both your wedding day and night. Our magnificent bedrooms can accommodate more than forty of your family and special guests. Whether you choose to spend the night amidst the elegant furnishings of the India Silk Bedroom or the opulent décor of the King William Bedroom, an overnight stay at Althorp is unparalleled. Steeped in history, many of Althorp’s guest suites have been graced by kings, queens and statesmen for over five centuries; from Charles I in the 1630s, through to Sir Winston Churchill in the lead-up to the Second World War. The Oak Bedroom witnessed the secret wedding ceremony of the 1st Earl Spencer to his childhood sweetheart, Georgiana Poyntz; the King William Bedroom hosted King William III’s stay in 1695, and the Queen Mary Bedroom was stayed in by Queen Mary and King George V when they visited Althorp in 1913. Your stay will become a part of the everevolving story of this most loved of English historic homes.
