Bethany Owen | Make-up Artist "I have always wanted to become a make-up artist, but never really had the guts to go through with it. It wasn't until last year, when I left my previous job to go for it. What's the worst that could happen? Well nearly a year and a half later, I am going from strength to strength, building my portfolio, contacts and experience. It's been a hell of an experience and it's only just beginning. I have never been so happy and satisfied in my life. If you have a dream, follow it! It will be the best thing you will ever do." "I have huge dreams for the future. I am aiming for London Fashion Week this year and have some big shoots planned. Someday I want to be well known and have my own line of cosmetics, but that's for way down the line. Right now I am just loving every minute and making the world sparkle"

Bartosz Branka | Photographer !

"Passion for Photography is something that will continue forever. Images always were strongest storytellers for me.! My adventure with cameras started during University years and carries on till today. I do not say much, I let my photography! speak. Women are the main subject of my images, their subtle nature, the eyes, the beauty...! How to achieve more than already achieved? I always ask myself that question. Is there something I haven't done already?! And the answer is Yes! Addiction of "writing with Light" tells me keep shooting, keep creating, keep it alive as I breathe and live! with Photography.!

Bartosz Branka | Photographer From the idea of a photo shoot, organizing it to shooting and editing, I enjoy every single moment of it.! BLAZE MAGAZINE

Gabriela |Model I have always had this feeling that I want to be a model, and after I drove my Mum crazy and my dad, which was the one who paid by the way, I started Modelling Courses. Twice a week, in a gym from a secondary school. I loved it. They taught us walking, how to pose and a bit of acting. This lasted for 3 months. I had my fashion show exam and got my certificate. I was really proud. I was 13. Soon after I went to an agency, I had a few jobs there, photoshoots and some fashion shows but I must say nothing really important. I went with another agency, where I first experienced a lingerie shoot and also lingerie catwalks. Had 18 already!!! I worked for Piera and Jolidon which are very well known in Romania for lingerie and swimsuits. I really enjoyed doing everything, without being tired. I don’t find this tiring at all. I enjoy it, I love it. Being with this agency gave me the opportunity to do a shoot for an important jeans company, Mustang Jeans, a back to school campaign. I participated at Cluj Fashion Week event, which is a really big event in my city, as big as London Fashion week. I did a look book for a bridal dress brand and in London I did a short fashion movie for a Russian designer which I am waiting to come out in the next few weeks. I love doing this, I love being on stage and in front of the camera. Even though I am a shy person, when I am on the catwalk I am a different person. I have confidence and I have power. In front of the camera I feel great, sometimes I surprise myself honestly. I have so much to give, I feel like I can do anything and be everything.

Interview with MUA Danielle Berry Tell us about yourself? How long have you been a makeup artist? How did you get into the industry? I’m based in Leigh-On-Sea, Essex, but work throughout Kent, Norfolk and London as well, covering a range of services from bridal to fashion and working with clothing brands and companies such as ‘Just Ballet UK’ and ‘Holysmokes Vintage’. I have been a professional makeup artist for around three years now, starting off doing creative shoots in a local photographic studio (The Leigh Studio) to practice and develop my skills. I had previously trained at my local college doing makeup and nail art courses and then went onto work for ‘The Body Shop At Home’ as a Beauty Consultant in which I gave 1-1 and group tutorials providing tips, techniques and lessons. I only use cruelty free products including Tropic Skincare, The Body Shop and B.

What made you want to do makeup? Is it your full time job? When I was younger I had no interest in makeup whatsoever, but as I got into my late teens, I realised that there was more to it than meets the eye. I have always had a creative flair, studying art from a young age and I like to think of the face as a blank canvas that can be made into anything you want. I love the fact that makeup is so versatile and can be used in many different ways to create a wide range of looks by using various products and techniques. I went full time at the beginning of 2014 due to high demand. There is never a dull moment and it never fails to make me smile seeing my happy, satisfied clients.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a makeup artist from you point? As with any profession, being a makeup artist has its ups and downs, advantages and disadvantages. There is a lot of very talented competition out there and it is a very fast growing industry with more and more people showing an interest in becoming makeup artists. However, on the plus side this motivates and encourages me to try to better my work and myself. I often find myself working with other creatives, and I like how we can inspire, teach and help each other within the industry. Working hours can be long and tiring with some very early starts and late finishes, sometimes working into the early hours of the morning, but I always stay positive and feel rewarded from the experience of working with like-minded people and having happy clients.

What advice and tips can you give individuals who want to take a step into the makeup industry? The first thing I’d say to anyone who wants to take a step into the makeup industry is to do your research. Make sure you explore all your options, get advice from professionals or others who are starting out and always research who you are working with to ensure you get the best out of your experiences and work with people who have similar ideas, concepts and aspirations as you. Embrace criticism as much as you embrace positive comments as you can learn and grow from everyone’s opinions.

There is a lot of debates of working for TF,what are your thoughts? There is a big debate about working TF and is a very controversial topic. In my personal opinion I think that working TF can be advantageous for updating portfolios, but only if it will benefit you, be worth your time and is agreed with all involved that this is the case. If the shoot is being used for advertisements, promotions, or any money will be made from it then everyone involved should be paid their agreed rate to at least cover travel, time and expenses. I have occasionally worked TF on creative shoots to update mine, the models and the photographers portfolios with pre-agreed themes and ideas. No one should ever be out of pocket as for most this is a career in which they need to live off of and not a hobby.

What services do you offer and how to contact you? I offer a range of services from bridal, prom and makeup for special occasions, to fashion shoots, shows and makeup lessons. I am currently working on a film that’s being filmed within my hometown and work with a range of local photographers. My email address is makeupbydannie@live.co.uk I can be found on facebook at ‘Make-up By Dannie”, Twitter at ‘@makeupbydannie’, Instagram ‘makeupbydannie1’. I also do product reviews on cruelty free beauty and makeup products on my Tumblr account at ‘make-upbydannie’ and I’m open to requests!
