AN UNEXPECTED EXCUSE * ART AND POEM BY GALA DAVILA *
You never expect to get tired of one’s
With synonyms of beauty and love,
body:
But my shining knight never appeared.
Of course, there’s always hate and sadness towards it,
I’ve grown tired of these lungs that can’t
Still, you never yawn, your eyes are
breathe correctly,
always alert.
This heart that hurts when it pounds,
We obsess over it;
The heavy shoulders I have,
It keeps us awake at night.
The pain in my throat, My hands that sweat and shake,
And in the mornings, we find another
My ears that ring, oh it hurts
reason to think
My outverted curves,
We’re masochists; we love it secretly.
My constant aching legs,
We make it the biggest problem about
My itching skin,
life,
My falling hair,
You see, it shows us we aren’t perfect
My eyes that burn.
And that gives us an excuse. Call me narcissistic for no longer seeing But my eyes are growing tired of the
an excuse,
flaws
But after all that wiping,
And the mirror started looking strange,
my excuse disappeared.
dull.
The screams became loud.
I got bored, I tried cleaning it
I never expected my body
Over and over and over
To be the least of my problems,
It just kept looking average.
in this world.
No one helped me, I always thought that someone would Take me away from the mirror. 14

Kamwai Cheung

Ein Neues Kapitel By Susana Macias
