One of the highlights for Leona’s fans, are her regular thoughts on Twitter. These are like a modern day fortune cookies, short to the point snippets of wisdom from the lady herself. Leona uses Twitter to pass on to her fans motivation. Because she is a huge star and has a genuine love for her admirers she wants help the people who made her a massive success, us her fans. Leona Tweets near enough on a daily bases, due to the fact that she’s more a giving than taking person. The Tweets are more like a mentor than a pop star’s advice, many are life coaching posts. These encourage us to work for our own success. Just as when she auditioned for the X Factor and beyond.

“Leona even replies to fans as if they are her best friends.”

It is well known that Leona has a love for animals. She will do anything she can to prevent cruelty to them. Leona Tweets about horses, going dog & bear sanctuaries. She even report about ladybirds (ladybugs) that would get a nod of approval from David Attenborough.

The special thing about all of the Tweets is the fact they don’t seem like they are from a global superstar celebrity. They are like they are from one of your best friends. Leona even replies to fans as if they are her best friends. You can keep up we Leona on Twitter @leonalewismusic.

Leona says Merry Christmas!!! Article By Chloe Leadbeater Graphics by Justin Harrelson On the 1st December Leona revealed that she would be doing a Christmas cover. Requests flooded in so a game to decide what one would be sung was created on the forum. It went on for days and days until a draw was declared between Ave Maria and O Holy Night. Days and days passed until on the 17th December at 1:47am (Leona was in LA at the time so it would have been 16th December over there) Leona tweeted the video of the Christmas cover. She has done a mash-up of All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey and O Holy Night, a traditional carol. Fans have been posting messages about it. I think that it is amazing. I keep listening to it over and over again. I gave mine spine chills and goose bumps and I was on the edge of tears. It is the best Christmas song I have ever heard! Merry Christmas and a very happy ew Year Leona!

A Star Is Born Article by Chloe Leadbeater

The millennium started off with a bang but the years dragged on, until 2006. The X Factor, in 2006, showed a 21 year old girl from Hackney in London, UK, who looked like any other 21 year old girl. Formerly, a waitress at Pizza Hut and now a secretary for a mortgage broker. She did these jobs to fund studio time and create demo albums; Twilight and Best Kept Secret. She sent these demos to record companies but got rejected time after time. Then she went on The X Factor. Across the nation, people thought “It’s another one of those people looking for fame.”. But then she started to sing. From that moment on, she captured the nation’s hearts. Boot Camp, then Judges Houses and then the live shows. She began to blossom when performing live, not only showing off her performance skills, but her epic voice. Unlike anything heard before. Weeks went by in a blur until the final. She performed with her usual excellence but there was something different in the air that night. Then came that heart stopping moment. (cont. on page 6) 5

She and her fellow finalist Ray Quinn held hands when waiting for the result. “The winner of X Factor 2006 is…”. Then we heard that glorious name “...LEONA!”. She broke down in tears at the end of her winner’s performance. Her fame skyrocketed from that moment forward. Releasing her debut single A Moment Like This which was downloaded 50,000 times within thirty minutes of release, which made it the fastest selling UK single ever. She got the Christmas number one. From then on, there was no going back. Number 1 after number 1 rolled in, her debut album, Spirit, became the fastest selling debut album of all time and has a 10x platinum certification. It was so popular that she re-released it in a Deluxe Format with extra tracks and a DVD showing her music videos. She did a live lounge session at Radio 1 where she covered Snow Patrol’s Run. It got so much demand that she released it and it 69,244 copies in two days and went straight to No.1. It became the fastest selling downloadonly release. The highlight, though, has to be her single Bleeding Love which not only topped the UK chart but also the US Billboard, the first UK female artist to top it in 20 years. She had broken into the US music industry which is a pretty hard nut to crack. Bleeding Love has now sold 11 million copies worldwide. It reached number one positions in over 30 singles charts around the world. Then came Echo, her second album, or as some would say, her sophomore album. She released Happy, her first single from the album, which peaked at No.2. Then she released I Got You, which as a shock to many fans, came in at No.10. All this fame came at a price. She probably has the worst bad luck of anyone I’ve ever known. Being head butted by her horse, caught up in gun drama in LA, falling off her horse so she had to dance on crutches on New Years Eve. The most recent incidents being her falling down a lift shaft and a hydraulic lift tipping over during a live performance. But there is one that sticks out in every fans’ mind. One that no one wants to remember. Her autobiography Dreams came out on 14th October 2009, so she decided to do a book signing at Waterstones Piccadilly, London. Loads of fans turned for this signing waiting in line for many hours to see their idol. One such “fan” walked up to Leona and gave her their copy to sign. But as soon as she looked up, he punched her in the face. This person was Peter Kowalczyk, a 29 year old man from South London. Security wrestled him to the ground. She was seen running out with her hand covering her face. Later she was seen crying, whilst being escorted into a car. She suffered bruising and was taken to a private doctor as a precaution. She had to cancel an appearance on the BBC’s The One Show and a two-day promotional trip to Germany. She released a statement, saying “Thank you so much for your support, it is truly overwhelming. Yesterday was a horrible shock and left me extremely hurt and upset. I’m very sorry to those I wasn’t able to meet at the signing. Thank you again for all of the lovely messages. Love you all”. Then came her UK tour which got rave reviews from everyone. Before that she did her first full UK show at the Hackney Empire on 2nd November 2009. The Labyrinth Tour kicked off at Sheffield on 28th May and finishing on 6th July at Cardiff, it received rave reviews from both fans and journalists. On 16th June Matthew Morrison, from the TV show Glee, had a guest appearance singing Over The Rainbow. Who am I talking about? The one, the only Leona Lewis! 6

July Having just completed her first tour, The Labyrinth, on 6th July 2010, Lewis returned to the studio to work on the follow up to her second album Echo. On 22nd July 2010 she teamed up with Dallas Austin, co-producer of “Whatever It Takes” from her first album “Spirit,” to work on some songs together.

August Late August saw Lewis working with long time collaborator Ryan Tedder, best known for co-writing and producing the lead singles “Bleeding Love” from “Spirit” and “Happy” from “Echo.” During this session Lewis was advised by Tedder to listen to the work of “The Temper Trap” and “Jaydiohead.”

September Lewis worked with Harvey Mason, Jr. on 8th September. Mason, Jr. previously co-produced “Can’t Breathe” from “Echo.” On 13th September, Lewis returned to the studio with Dallas Austin to complete work on songs they had been crafting together. One of the songs they worked on, “Hangin’ All the Roses,” features the lyrics “because of all the things we’ve been through, now I’m hangin’ all the roses upside down.” The song has been described as “amazing” by Dallas Austin, while Larry Jackson stated he “can’t stop listening” to it. The lead single from the new album will debut in early 2011, with the album set to follow shortly after. 7

by Paulette (Leona Lewis Official Forum Member) After 6 months of waiting for this moment, at last I had Labyrinth tour DVD (Blu Ray) in my hands. Of course, I was shaking, and dying to tear open the wrapper and be prepared to relive the glorious experience of the tour all over again. But before I allowed myself to do this, there were certain rituals that I had to do, I showed considerable restraint lol, everything had to be perfect. The house was sparkling clean, the champagne was open and poured, and then YES, the moment had come at last. I just sat mesmerised throughout the whole show, of course I laughed, cried, danced, jumped up and down, I actually thought I was back at the tour. The DVD captured everything that was magic about the tour and then some. I found delights that I had missed on the tour, and for me to see Leona's facial expressions, how she emoted each song, was just so wonderful. I loved the way the DVD panned in and out of the audience, and the look of awe and wonder and joy on the faces just said it all. Everytime the camera showed the huge expanse of the O2, I thought wow, Leona is showcasing her tour to all these thousands of people, and that is just one night! I felt like a proud parent. I was blown away by Leona's vocals, stage presence, everything, the band, dancers and aerialists, and the backing singers. The staging was indeed magical. I sat entranced through the whole show, forgot to drink my champagne, because I couldn't take my eyes of the screen. Every single thing about the DVD was beyond my expectations and they were huge. I cried, particularly when Happy, I See You and Homeless was on, it was so emotional. I just loved the changed up version of Don't Let Me Down, and Forgive Me, in fact I could go on forever how everything was just so brilliant. I have now watched the DVD at least 20 times and discover new things at each sitting. If there was one wish I could have, it would be that the world could see this and appreciate how special Leona is.

The Official Leona Lewis Website has its own Forum for like minded fans to discuss their favourite subject, the British Pop Sensation Leona Lewis, Our Singing Princess! Where Does The Word Forum Come From? The word ‘forum’ long predates the Internet, it in fact goes back more than 2,ooo years, it’s origins lie within the Roman Empire as a form of local government. These were meeting places for the local politicians & public to discuss issues on how the city should be run. Move forward to the 1990’s when the first electronic versions evolved on the internet (also known as bulletin boards). These would have been very technology orientated and home to geeks. And now we arrive at December 2006 and the Official Leona Lewis Forum, as you can see they serve the same purpose to act as a meeting place for people with the same interests. So now we come to the end of the history lesson let’s move on to what you really want to read about the Leona Lewis Forum. The Birth of The Leona Lewis Forum! The website www.leonalewismusic.co.uk came into existence in December 2006 at the time Leona won the X-Factor (Hugely popular British talent reality TV show that’s still going strong today). The website was the idea of Sony/BMG the label that manages Leona’s recording career. This is the 3rd version of the website and went live on 25th October 2007 three days before her World-wide hit Bleeding Love went to number 1 in the UK. The design of the site reflects to cover artwork on Leona’s album at the time. Today its in the Echo era and this will change during the summer of 2011 when Leona moves into the 3rd Album era (album name to be announced). The Moderators Team have played a major part in suggesting how the forum layout has come in being. Eric (Erront55) has stated ‘I think it is easy to find things with this layout.’ I would say I have to agree with him considering hundreds of new posts are being added everyday, you can find what you want very quickly on the site and forum. It’s a very user friendly site and the people are even more friendly, Admin, Moderators & Members alike.

Forum statistics at 0:25 am on the 27th November 2010 – Please note these figure changing all the time, they will more than likely be higher now. (Cont. on Page 10) 9

Regulation and monitoring of pollution By Jon Hanson-Lavallier To protect the environment from the adverse effects of pollution, many nations worldwide have enacted legislation to regulate various types of pollution as well as to mitigate the adverse effects of pollution.

Regulation and monitoring by region International Since pollution crosses political boundaries international treaties have been made through the United Nations and its agencies to address international pollution issues. Greenhouse gas emissions The Kyoto Protocol is an amendment to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an international treaty on global warming. It also reaffirms sections of the UNFCCC. Countries which ratify this protocol commit to reduce their emissions of carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases, or engage in emissions trading if they maintain or increase emissions of these gases. A total of 141 countries have ratified the agreement. Notable exceptions include the United States and Australia, who have signed but not ratified the agreement. The stated reason for the United States not ratifying is the exemption of large emitters of greenhouse gases who are also developing countries, like China and India. [1]

An UN environmental conference held in Bali 3–14 December 2007 with the participation from 180 countries aims to replace the Kyoto Protocol, which will end in 2012. During the first day of the conference USA, Saudi Arabia and Canada were presented with the "Fossilof-the-day-award", a symbolic bag of coal for their negative impact on the global climate. 11

Canada In Canada the regulation of pollution and its effects are monitored by a number of organizations depending on the nature of the pollution and its location. The three levels of government (Federal - Canada Wide; Provincial; and Municipal) equally share in the responsibilities, and in the monitoring and correction of pollution.

China China's rapid industrialization has substantially increased pollution. China has some relevant regulations: the 1979 Environmental Protection Law, which was largely modeled on U.S. legislation. But the environment continues to deteriorate. Twelve years after the law, only one Chinese city was making an effort to clean up its water discharges. This indicates that China is about 30 years behind the U.S. schedule of environmental regulation and 10 to 20 years behind Europe. In July 2007, it was reported that the World Bank reluctantly censored a report revealing that 750,000 people in China die every year as a result of pollution-related diseases. China's State Environment Protection Agency and the Health Ministry asked the World Bank to cut the calculations of premature deaths from the report fearing the revelation would provoke "social unrest".

Europe Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is a European Union Regulation of 18 December 2006. REACH addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment. Its 849 pages took seven years to pass, and it has been described as the most complex legislation in the Union's history and the most important in 20 years. It is the strictest law to date regulating chemical substances and will affect industries throughout the world. REACH entered into force in June 2007, with a phased implementation over the next decade. [1]

[3]

[4]

The basic European rules are included in the Directive 96/61/EC of 24 September 1996 concerning integrated pollution prevention and control (IPCC) and the National Emission Ceilings Directive. [7]

United Kingdom See also: Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution In the 1840s, the United Kingdom brought onto the statute books legislation to control water pollution. It was extended to all rivers and coastal water by 1961. However, currently the clean up of historic contamination is controlled under a specific statutory scheme found in Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (Part IIA), as inserted by the Environment Act 1995, and other ‘rules’ found in regulations and statutory guidance. The Act came into force in England in April 2000. Within the current regulatory framework, Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) is a regime for controlling pollution from certain industrial activities. The regime introduces the concept of Best Available Techniques ("BAT") to environmental regulations. Operators must use the BAT to control pollution from their industrial activities to prevent, and where that is not practicable, to reduce to acceptable levels, pollution to air, land and water from industrial activities. The Best Available Techniques also aim to balance the cost to the operator against benefits to the environment. The system of Pollution Prevention and Control is replacing that of Integrated Pollution Control (IPC) (which was established by the Environmental Protection Act 1990) and is taking effect between 2000 and 2007. The Pollution Prevention and Control regime implements the European Directive (EC/96/61) on integrated pollution prevention and control.

United States A polluted ditch along Interstate 25 between Colorado Springs and Pueblo, Colorado. The United States Congress passed the Clean Air Act in 1963 to legislate the reduction of smog and atmospheric pollution in general. That legislation has subsequently been amended and extended in 1966, 1970, 1977 and 1990. Numerous state and local governments have enacted similar legislation either implementing or filling in locally important gaps in the national program. The national Clean Air Act and similar state legislative acts have led to the widespread use of atmospheric dispersion modeling in order to analyze the air quality impacts of proposed major actions. With the 1990 Clean Air Act, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began a controversial carbon trading system in which tradable rights to emit a specified level of carbon are granted to polluters. [8]

[citation needed]

Enactment of the 1972 Clean Water Act required facilities to obtain permits for discharges to navigable waters and establishment of national discharge standards for municipal sewage treatment plants and many industrial categories. It required use of best management practices for a wide range of other water discharges including nonpoint source pollution. Amendments in 1977 required stricter regulation of toxic pollutants. In 1987 Congress added permit coverage for municipal and industrial storm water discharges. [9]

[10]

[11]

Congress passed the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) in 1976, which created a regulatory framework for both municipal solid waste and hazardous waste disposed on land. RCRA requires that all hazardous wastes be managed and tracked from generation of the waste, through transport and processing, to final disposal, by means of a nationwide permit system. The Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments of 1984 mandated regulation of underground storage tanks containing petroleum and hazardous chemicals, and the phasing out of land disposal of hazardous waste. The Federal Facilities Compliance Act, passed in 1992, clarified RCRA coverage of federally-owned properties such as military bases. Illegal disposal of waste is punishable by fines of up to $25,000 per occurrence. Passage of the Noise Control Act in 1972 established mechanisms of setting emission standards for virtually every source of noise including motor vehicles, aircraft, certain types of HVAC equipment and major appliances. It also put local government on notice as to their responsibilities in land use planning to address noise mitigation. This noise regulation framework comprised a broad data base detailing the extent of noise health effects. Congress ended funding of the federal noise control program in 1981, which curtailed development of further national regulations. [12]

Article from the Wikipedia

[1] Kyoto Protocol To The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change On the next article, we will focus on specific form of pollutions, like air or water and expand more in this subject, this will allow you to be better informed as to the current state of affair and eventually make a difference in your own ways. Here is the second action of the year end: Start helping Leona's cause by recycling leafs or vegetable left overs from preparing food. For example if you live in a country where leaves fall, you can pick them up and build a chicken fence spot in you back ward and gather the leaves, you only need to stir the pile once in a while, it will produce black rich soil usable for plants and even food gardens. If you city offers a container to amass leaves and vegetable left overs, this too can be used to build up rich soil to be further recycled. This is another way to make our planet greener!

By Daniel Grandits Leona is simply the best when it comes to conveying emotions through music. When listening to one of her ballads, the sky lightens up and a wave of joyness hits you. Leona captures you and takes you on a special journey. This is due to

her amazing ability both to put mindblowing vocals on a song and to interpret the lyrics perfectly. Take Run as an example. When she hits the final notes, you forget the world around you and might possibly burst out crying. What I also like about her ballads is that they help you to get through hard times and gain new power.

Back in 2009 I suddenly felt like creating a song in the manner of Leona. A song which has universal appeal and everybody can relate to. I knew from the very first moment on that this was going to be a ballad with a huge climax. I started with putting together the instrumental version. The foundation is a string chord. I added drums to the chorus in order to give the song more edge. The overall sound reminds me of Bleeding Love in some way. I used a special software which provides many instruments, you just have to put in the notes. After I had created the track, I started making up a melody and writing the lyrics.

The message of the song is: Don' let it get you down. Stand strong and good times will come again. I recorded the vocals with the micro which is integrated in my laptop. I also loved to experiement with my vocals. I hope that Leona will sing the song one day.

LISTE TO THE SO G!!! 14

By Daniel Grandits Talent Shows such as American Idol or the X Factor are very popular these days. They get massive ratings all over the world. Sadly there are lots of critics who have a low opinion of these shows. They claim that there's no real talent on there and that everything's just for entertainment. Apart from that is often said that the winners don't have longlasting careers. Take a look at what Elton John said: "They're a bit like products, to be honest with you. ... So I'm on the artist’s side".All the critics were proven wrong, when Leona won the X Factor and started to conquer the world. Talent shows can be taken seriously and give amazing talents like Leona the chance to launch their career. Stunning looks, sublime vocals, worldwide success: That's our very special Leona who has been found thanks to the X Factor. Nevertheless, Leona never was a typial talent show contestant. Some artists (such as Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks & Adam Lambert) manage to deliver a decent hit after having won the (American Idol) contest. But Leona created a huge buzz and attracted a lot of attention while being on the X Factor. Something like that never happened to any contestant before. Ryan Tedder was shown a video of Leona singing "I will always love you" and he immediatley started to fall in love with her. Many people from the American music industry found out about Leona and were impressed by her breathtaking talent. Clive Davis, who has always been Whitney Houston's mentor, is very critical when it comes to music but he knew from that very first moment on that Leona was someone you would find once in a lifetime. That's why Leona was offered a five-album contract. Leona didn't only raise interest during her X Factor time, she became one of the biggest superstars of the world shortly afterwards. She sold more than 25 million records in a very short period of time. Our princess also inspired many people to audition for the X Factor and follow their dreams. It is often rumoured that the success of Leona was the only reason why Simon Cowell continued with the X Factor. Contestants of talent shows from all over the world love to sing Leona's songs on stage. The most popular one has to be Run. The song managed to re-enter the German Single Charts at number 3 due to the contestants' performances. Run was performed on Popstars, Supertalent and the X Factor. It's great to see that the judges always point out how talented Leona is. Dieter Bohlen, judge on Supertalent and Germany's most popular producer, said: "Leona Lewis is a gigantomanic singer." And most contestants realise that it's a huge challenge to sing her songs. "Footprints in the sand" has been performed very often as well. Leona is aware of the fact that many contestants worship her. That's why she came on stage very often to perform with them. She sang Bleeding Love with a French girl on Star Academy for instance. You'll spend lots of time searching the internet for this performance because it's very rare. In the winter of 2009 Leona joined the "Popstars" singers and they delivered a very emotional performance of Run.

Let's hope she will continue doing those duets. Thank God that we have found Leona ! 15
