Igmar De Vos
On behalf of the Fédération Equestre Internationale, I am absolutely delighted to welcome you to Las Vegas for the fifth Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping qualifier from the North American Western Sub League for the 2017/2018 season. The FEI World Cup™ is a global enterprise which began with the creation of the FEI World Cup™ Jumping series in 1978 and has since been extended to include Dressage (since 1985), Driving (since 2001) and more recently Vaulting (since 2010). The concept is simple: a global series where athletes compete at multiple events within geographical leagues dotted around the world in order to earn their place at a star studded Final and a shot at the ultimate indoor trophy in each of the disciplines. This is the beauty of the FEI World Cup™ format, which is not only synonymous with top sport, but also about stimulating equestrian sport across all four corners of the globe; and as a result promoting and actively developing the sport in emerging regions. There is no doubt that the series have become a major player on the international calendar for Jumping, Dressage, Driving, and Vaulting; and this season alone there are more than 150 qualifiers all over the world leading to the four Finals in 2018. France will be hosting three of those four finals with the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping and FEI World Cup™ Dressage Finals in Paris next April and the FEI World Cup™ Driving Final in Bordeaux in February, while for Vaulting, the Final returns to Dortmund next March for the third consecutive time. This new season is filled with promise for fantastic sport, and, on behalf of the Fédération Equestre Internationale, I’d like to thank Longines most sincerely for their vital contribution, which ensures quality competition and management throughout the series. Equestrian sport has expanded significantly in recent years and the Swiss watchmaking experts have played a key role in that development. I’d also like to send my very best wishes to the Organising Committee, their partners and sponsors, all the volunteers and the many officials and stewards working hand in hand to deliver an unforgettable fixture. May the 2017/2018 season be filled with many great sporting moments as it continues to bring equestrian sport to a whole new audience, while taking great care of the health and welfare of our most loyal and noble partner – the horse.

Welcome to this unique location at the South Point Equestrian Arena, where the wonder and intensity of show jumping is surrounded by the incomparable excitement of Las Vegas. The Blenheim EquiSports team is proud to be one of 14 events that comprise the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping North American League (NAL), now in its third year. The Las Vegas National Horse Show, recognized by the North American Riders Group’s Top 25 as one of the best indoor events on the West Coast, has been part of the League since its inception. The NAL has injected an unmistakable element of excitement into North American competition, and that enthusiasm played a role in our decision to make the 2017 show, as last year, a CSI4*-W, offering more FEI ranking classes for riders on the qualifying circuit. The Longines FEI World Cup™ is a global series with 110 qualifying events in 14 leagues across the world. At the end of the qualifying process, 14 athletes from the NAL (Canada, the United States, and Mexico), will have earned a place among the world’s best, to compete in Paris for one of the most coveted trophies in the sport of show jumping. In a storybook finish, American McLain Ward, aboard HH Azur, won the 2016 Longines FEI World Cup™ Final in Omaha, NE. Those competing on Saturday in the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Las Vegas will be earning valuable qualifying points toward this goal. Luxury watchmaker Longines, our prestigious Title Sponsor and Top Partner of the FEI, is the Official Timekeeper and Watch for the North American League, and provides a dedicated time-keeping team and data handling service for each of the fourteen legs. As a major supporter of the sport of Show Jumping worldwide, this invaluable timekeeping service is just a part of their contribution to elevating our sport. We are thankful to our loyal partners, sponsors and competitors, whose support continues to make The Las Vegas National Horse Show CSI4*-W a championship event. We extend our gratitude to the owners, volunteers, and grooms, as well as the officials, the suppliers, the media, the staff working behind the scenes, the corporations, the charities, and all who make these events successful. It most certainly takes a village, and we truly appreciate each person’s contribution. Enjoy some superb show jumping and the thrills of the one and only city that never sleeps, Las Vegas. As always, we wish all who attend a memorable experience.

Ride to Paris The best show jumpers in the world, both human and equine, are on a quest to land one of approximately 50 places at the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final to be held April 10–15, 2018, in the City of Light. Fourteen of those places will go to North American athletes as they ride to Paris through a series of North American League qualifiers held in the USA, Canada, or Mexico.
THIS IS HOW NORTH AMERICA WILL BE REPRESENTED: North America is divided into two leagues, East and West, each with seven qualifying events. The Las Vegas National Horse Show is one of seven West Coast Sub-League events and the final show offering points in 2017. A total of 14 athletes from North America will earn an invitation to compete at the 2018 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final:

The Longines FEI World CupTM Jumping Final, an indoor competition held in the spring each year, is the single most important annual International Championship in equestrian sport. Other equestrian events at this level, the Olympics and the World Championships, occur every four years. The series, which began in 1978, has sixteen leagues in six continents and has been held at fabulous locations all over the world. In order to be one of the competitors at the prestigious finals in the spring, riders earn FEI World CupTM points for their country of citizenship, i.e. USA, Canada or Mexico, by placing in classes recognized by the FEI. For those who come out on top, the ride to Paris will culminate in the AccorHotels Arena in central Paris. And like the qualifying events, but more so, it will be an evening filled with excitement, suspense, and excruciatingly close competition, set within the framework of this most elegant of sports.

A visit to the booth of Caricature Artist Ken Hofbauer will leave you enthralled, mesmerized, laughing, in good spirits, and with a keepsake to take home. But don’t tarry – he will only be drawing for three hours, beginning at 5:00pm, so get in line early. Having drawn hundreds of thousands of people since he began his career in 1976, he is able to produce a caricature in just a few minutes. But his speed does not sacrifice quality, since his eye is trained to pick up subtle details instantly, and convert them to an accurate likeness. Guests will not only receive the best caricature drawing, but will be entertained in the process by Ken’s easygoing charm and zany jokes.

FEI World Cup™ Champion in 2014
FEI World Cup™ Champion in 2017
In 2012, at the age of 16, Flexible (Cruising x Safari) and his partner Rich Fellers broke a 25-year drought for the U.S. with their unforgettable victory in the FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final at s’-Hertogenbosch, Holland. Soon after, they were selected to be part of the United States Olympic Team for the 2012 London Olympic Games; and in this, their first Olympics, he and Fellers earned an individual 8th place, the highest placed American pair. During their career, Flexible and Fellers won an extraordinary 34 international FEI competitions, and were still going strong well into Flexible’s 21st year. But in April, Fellers announced that it was time to retire his diminutive friend with the huge heart, and in a bittersweet ceremony at the Del Mar National Horse Show in May, the beloved West Coast show jumper said good-bye to his fans. He will live out his years at the Fellers’ farm in Oregon, while continuing his already successful career as a sire.
In 2013, the year after Flexible broke the drought, another American hoisted the FEI World Cup™ Jumping trophy, this time in Gothenburg, Sweden. Simon, a 14-year-old KWPN gelding (Naline x Mr. Blue), and his partner Beezie Madden, claimed the victory.
The most recent American horse to carry her rider to a World Cup™ victory, was 11-year-old HH Azur (Sion Van De Zuuthoeve x Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve), a Belgian Warmblood mare with McLain Ward in the irons. And she did it by going five rounds without toppling a rail. Ward began competing HH Azur in 2015, and her calm, friendly, confident demeanor has made her an invaluable partner. After several notable wins in 2015, including the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows (like Simon before her), the Old Salem Grand Prix, and two major victories at the Royal Horse Show, HH Azur and Ward jumped to Team Silver in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Simon has carried the colors of two nations into Olympic competition, under two Olympic champions: Jeroen Dubbeldam of The Netherlands, and USA’s Beezie Madden. In 2011 Madden took over the ride from Dubbeldam, and immediately began winning. They won the 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows. And the 2013 FEI World Cup™ victory, with Dubbeldam in the stands, remains one of the highlights of their stellar career. That same year, they were part of the US team that won the first Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup held in the United States, and in 2015, the pair finished 4th in the FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final in Las Vegas. Simon, now 18, remains an active member of Madden’s string.
Still a relatively young horse, HH Azur has many competitions ahead of her, and she has already captured the hearts of show jumping fans around the world. Ward says he just tries to stay out of her way; she is something special and something brilliant. The Las Vegas National • 2 0 1 7

French capped off his time in the nation’s capital with three Championships, three Reserve Championships, two Grand Hunter Championships, and the 2015 WIHS Leading Hunter Rider title among other honors. French guided Laura Wasserman’s Boss to theoverall WIHS Grand Hunter Championship, and also won the WIHS Grand Green Working Hunter Championship riding Lee Kellogg Sadrian’s Sochi.
GRACE TUTON’S BURRATA.
He received a special $5,000 bonus for the Leading Hunter Rider Award, sponsored by Dr. Betsee Parker, and was also presented The Robert Coluccio Leading Hunter Rider Perpetual Trophy. Laura Wasserman earned the Leading Hunter Owner Award. “I do not think I have ever had an indoor show like this. To win this many Championships and be Reserve this many times as well; it means a lot,” French expressed. “This is where I grew up. As a kid, WIHS was the biggest show you could go to. We did not go to the Garden; it was too far away. WIHS, you could come and watch. It is my favorite show. I love being in the city; I love the whole atmosphere showing in the city.” (Cont. pg 8)

Blenheim EquiSports Provides a Pathway for Rising Stars in Show Jumping Photos by Amy McCool Tina Yates
The show arenas have been buzzing with young talent this year, from emerging riders to budding equine athletes. To help riders bring horses like these to their full potential, Blenheim EquiSports is pleased to provide opportunities to young horses and young riders each show season. For young horses, Blenheim EquiSports offers free entries and discounted stalls at both the San Juan Capistrano and Del Mar locations, as well as hosting the Young Hunter and Young Jumper Championships annually. Show Jumpers can continue along an upward path through the Interactive Mortgage Futurity Horses 10 & Under Series, the Markel Insurance 1.40m Grand Prix Series, the Interactive Mortgage U25 Series, National Grand Prix classes and ultimately FEI classes at The Las Vegas National, CSI4*-W. A host of horses and riders gain invaluable miles on the grand prix fields in San Juan Capistrano and Del Mar, and many of them make it a goal to

Rising Equestrian Stars
This past year, ‘Bowey’ was sold to up-and-coming show jumper Emma Waldfogel, who started him out in the 1.20m classes, but has quickly moved up to the 1.40m division. The new pair has grown a great deal over the season together, earning this year's Electronic Vet 1.40m Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic Circuit Award. Top finishes in Interactive Mortgage U25 Series classes this season helped her qualify for the $25,000 Interactive Mortgage U25 Developing Rider Final here at The Las Vegas National CSI4*-W.
T I N A YAT E S
Traveling to horse shows on the East Coast and the West Coast, Tina Yates and her husband Craig operate a successful training program called High Point Farm,LLC. Yates has had a super show season on both the East and West Coasts on a host of horses including Campitello 5, Ceasar, Cicomein VDL, Durango VDL and more. Since she arrived in California this past spring, her consistent wins and top ribbons at Blenheim EquiSports events put her on top of the Markel Insurance 1.40m Grand Prix Series standings with 269 points. From young horses to FEI, the twenty-five-year-old continues to show her skills aboard a variety of mounts and is certain to be a name known in international circles. One of her successful mounts in 2016 was Bowmore VDL, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion. Competing in U25 and Grand Prix classes, Yates had quite a memorable win in the fall of 2016, when she tied her own time for a double victory on Bowmore VDL and

Zazou Hoffman began her riding career at the young age of three, competing in her first horse show at age six. Getting a solid foundation with trainer Meredith Bullock, at age thirteen Hoffman gained recognition by winning the Ronnie Mutch Scholarship, granting her the opportunity to travel to Florida for two weeks to train with Missy Clark. This led to an ongoing working student relationship with the East Coast trainer that lasted throughout her junior career. Her level of dedication paid off when The Las Vegas National • 2 0 1 7

she won the ASPCA Maclay Finals in 2009, at age seventeen. After graduating from UCLA in 2014, Hoffman returned to the saddle and began to work as an assistant trainer for Meadow Grove Farm, with Susie Schroer and Dick Carvin. Her hard work and dedication once again paid off, as she now is competing on several solid mounts. Always a strong contender, Hoffman is headed for a memorable 2017. She has won several grand prix classes, including her first CSI5* victory against some of the best riders in the world. Aboard the fourteen-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare W Zermie 13, Hoffman took home the blue ribbon in the 1.50m AON Cup at Calgary’s Spruce Meadows, where not even #1 ranked rider in the world, Kent Farrington, could catch her jump-off time.
HANNAH HEIDEGGER
Clearly a natural in the saddle, Hannah Heidegger showed in her first competition in the Short Stirrup Hunters at the age of six. Throughout her junior years, Heidegger proved
herself to be a winner in every division: Ponies, Junior Hunters, Medals, and Junior Jumpers. Under the guidance of Olympic Gold Medalist Will Simpson, in 2015 Heidegger and her horse Geledimar were second in the Purina Animal Nutrition Grand Prix CSIW2* at HITS Coachella. In 2016, Heidegger won the Colorado Horse Park June 2016 $60,000 Ariat® Grand Prix with Ohlala Z. That same year, she was the youngest competitor in the HITS Thermal AIG $1 Million Grand Prix. Heidegger currently attends the University of California, San Diego. Despite her busy school schedule, she still makes time to ride with Dick Carvin, Susie Schroer and Zazou Hoffman at their Los Angeles-based Meadow Grove Farm. This year, Heidegger and her Di Caprio RV topped a field of sixtytwo entries to claim the victory in the $25,000 Markel Insurance 1.40m Grand Prix in May. Plus, she currently holds the top spot in the Interactive Mortgage U25 Developing Rider Series standings.
Hannah Loly
H A N N A H L O LY
At just fifteen years old, Hannah Loly has already ridden to victory on numerous occasions in the jumper arena on one of her four mounts: two mares, Zafira and Lady Capital; a stallion, Asombro; and a gelding, Ayma de la Demi Lune. Training with Keri Potter at her family’s Tres Palomas, the committed equestrian rides five days a week, often before she goes to school. She kicked off her season at Blenheim EquiSports with impressive results, winning the 1.35m Jumper Classic and picking up second in the Markel insurance 1.40m Grand Prix on Asombro in March and a $7,500 Interactive Mortgage Futurity win riding Zafira in June, to name just a few. The young phenom also earned a spot on the Zone 10 Junior Young Rider team aboard Ayma de la Demi Lune and finished her first year at NAJYRC with an individual Silver Medal. Competing against some of the top riders in the sport, Loly has exceeded expectations and risen to the top on numerous occasions. For Loly, the future holds unlimited possibilities.

JACOB WEISS
A Force for Good
L
ike many bright, creative minds, Jacob Weiss’s seems to be constantly generating ideas. But in his case, all involve ways to build a business that gives back to the community. He started juggling at age 10, and with the energy that can be felt in even a short conversation with him, he started a juggling group at Princeton in his undergraduate days, and another at Vanderbilt while earning his PhD.
During his college years, Jacob was giving a show with people from non-profits in the audience. Afterward, one of the families told Jacob that this was the first time the whole family had laughed together in a year – since they had begun dealing with difficult health issues and hospital stays. Their obvious pleasure made a lasting impression. “It was a no-brainer to build that into what we do. Hospitals and charities can’t fly entertainment people out to perform. But if we’re already in town, we can go to places that we can do some good.” After completing his doctorate, he started Playing By Air, an electrifying three-person high-energy juggling performance that combines lights, color, and non-stop motion; and true to his mission, from the beginning, it was more than just a touring show. Every booking is combined with a free show for people in need in the community in which the group is performing. “Being entertainers,” he says, “gives us the opportunity to dedicate some of our time to community groups.” Soon, other ideas became reality, and Playing By Air branched out, bringing ‘Creativity Moves Kids’ and ‘Do Good and Juggle’ into the fold. It is Do Good and Juggle that Jacob will be bringing to Las Vegas this year. This is interactive entertainment that offers a challenge to anyone willing to take two minutes to learn to juggle. Nearly everyone who takes the challenge is convinced that they can’t do it. But they do – and when they realize that they CAN do it, their smiles are a testament to the sense of accomplishment they feel.
Jacob speaks often about those smiles, and what it means to him. “It’s really not just about juggling,” he says. “It’s a sort of cross-training for achieving other goals in life. People learn that they can do things they thought they couldn’t do. They just can’t stop after the first few times they drop the ball. That ‘I can do it!’ mindset is what we teach.” He described a learn-to-juggle workshop that he did at a teen center for at-risk kids. The kids were totally enthralled – the adults in charge of the center said that they had never seen them so transformed. When Jacob and his team packed up to leave, the kids wanted to continue, and he realized that the good they had done could be extended by leaving some sets of juggling balls behind for the kids to keep. And so … that became part of the program. This year at the Las Vegas National, he will be entertaining on the concourse, and challenging show goers to learn to juggle. He plans to have a photographer with him to capture the instant that their faces light up with the ‘I can do this!’ smile – something that they can take home to remember the experience. There will be sets of juggling balls for sale, and for each one sold, one will be donated to the group that receives the free show. In Las Vegas, Jacob partners with Win-Win Entertainment, a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting great causes with great entertainment. “They know the area well, and they have been great partners in guiding us to places to give back,” he points out. At press time, Jacob had not yet received the final recommendation from Win-Win, but two possibilities are: to visit a group that works with at-risk foster children, which could be done on Saturday morning, before the main event; or to visit a social circus after-school program for at-risk and low-income families, which they would do on Friday evening. Truly, Jacob Weiss is a brilliant force for good, and an entertainer not to be missed! The Las Vegas National • 2 0 1 7
