A Short Tour of SadPlanet Virtual - Optics

Wedged between Piazza Publica and Shenzhen Pink in Cryptovoxels' Origin City, sits a true ode to vaporwave. SadPlanet Virtual may be a baffling piece of eye candy that stands out compared to the more modern, single coloured buildings at first. Looking inside, though, the plaza gives an in-depth look at modern and past vaporwave themes alike. Its design and colours are reminiscent of the visuals seen on vaporwave discs, vinyl records, cassettes, and designs alike. Audio files from artists like Vektroid, 2814, and James Ferraro are posted onto the parcels along with surreal, vaporwave-like pieces of CryptoArt. The plaza and its art are made and curated mostly by RobNess, run off an Etherium blockchain currency system that allows its upkeep Cryptovoxels. Alongside its vast collection of popular vaporwave tracks and its gallery of art, the plaza holds stories behind the book Memphis Megahertz and the Kansas City Fractal, videos on what vaporwave is, and even a parcel displaying “Music of the Day”. Cryovoxels supports both browser and VR viewing, so whether you'd just like to chill with a headset on or admire it on your laptop, this small guide can help you navigate SadPlanet Virtual.

The Entrance

Wandering around the building, it can be hard to find a proper entry. There are several, but the most direct-looking one is on the north face of the plaza. A set of two tunnels stacked atop each other. Inside these tunnels are arguably vaporwave's most influential albums and most popular track. Sitting at the end of the tunnel is a transparent portal gif, giving you a solid entrance to the world of vaporwave.

Centre Parcel

The parcel contains some of vaporwave’s best music, along with stories behind some of the artwork placed above it. Beside it is an ETH donation code. On the backside of the parcel, there is a story based around the creation of GrounBEEFtaxi’s music and more playbars for vaporwave music.

Track of the Day

This parcel changes frequently to showcase a dierent track and its album’s art. Vaporwave artists of all types and dedicated sub-genres get their works posted on this parcel sometimes.

Art Gallery

On the East wall of the plaza, several images and GIFs are plastered on display to everyone who walks in. Just as the plaza’s blocks and land are, these pieces function o the blockchain currency Ethereum. It allows the builders of the plaza to purchase the licences and rights to use the images. Peices made by Cryptovoxel artists like Robness litter not only the gallery but the walls of the plaza. One could call the whole plaza a gallery.
