n October we were asked to enter the SCCUL business awards. After a lot of late nights and a few nerve calming measures we were ready to begin the very gruelling three stage interview process. We were met with some very stiff competition but all the hard work paid off when we were presented with the Customer Service 2012 award at the award ceremony in the Clayton hotel in December. The award now sits very proudly on our reception desk. It was a great feeling to get some recognition for the work we have done on our business but especially customer service because it is such an integral part of what we are about. It was also nice to have people with the experience and know how to tell us we are on the right track. Read on for more on the awards. In November we were invited to appear on Off the Rails. This was very exciting. Gillian and Marie spent two days in Dublin filming. It gave us great insight into what goes on behind the scenes and our lovely Gillian gave a great interview, putting into practice her years of presentation training and experience. At the moment we are looking to increase our clientele. We have started a refer a friend incentive. We will give you a €10

voucher to pass onto a friend, who has not visited the salon before. When your friend visits the salon you will be sent a €20 voucher as a thank you from us. Since our last issue our loyalty club has been booming and everyone is starting to reap the rewards of being a loyal client to the salon receiving complimentary products and services. We think the nicest way to use your points is to treat yourself to something you wouldn’t normally have. Our Shu Uemura Ceremonies are to die for. In the ‘your team and you’ section of this edition you will find some team profiles, to help you get to know the girls in your salon. From the results of our latest survey you told us you feel quiet anxious when your regular stylist is not available and sometimes feel nervous trying some one new, so we listened and “The buddy system“ was born. The girls are paired and work together as a team. They meet once a week to discuss their clients and make sure their notes are up to date. This means that if your stylist is unavailable, you can go to their ‘buddy’ who will be able to deliver the same service. The service we provide is based on giving a consistent experience to all clients all the time.

Mission Statement The Yourells hair salon experience is based on our desire to consistently give each and every client an extraordinary experience. We meet their unique needs and expectations through dedication, education and creativity. In creating a secure and challenging environment we enable staff and clients alike to realize their full potential. We’d like to finish by thanking you all for your continued support particularly in these economic times.

Team Profiles

Laura Langan, Corofin I joined the Yourells team in 2005. After intense training and several wella professional courses behind me, I have new and fresh ideas. I work with my clients to create a look especially for them, based on skin tone, eye colour and client image. I’m enthusiastic, hard working, friendly and always approachable. Working on photo shoots has made me more observant and has increased my eye for detail which I use and adjust to suit each client. I’ve enjoyed doing hair in the VIP camps of oxygen and Electric Picnic. I recently did a shoot with VIP magazine in which I was the lead stylist.

Stephanie O’Shea, Loughrea I’ve been a part of the Yourells team for 5 years. While working here I have done many courses ranging from up styling to cutting. I have had the opportunity to travel to London for a 2 week Vidal Sassoon cutting course. I have worked with the likes of Sile and Grainne Seoige, Andrea Roche and Marietta Doran. I have worked behind the scenes at the Brown Thomas fashion shows. This December I worked at our pop up salon in Brown Thomas giving in depth consultations and advice on the current hair trends and looks. I love working with my clients on a one to one basis. The chit chat of the salon environment keeps me smiling. Everyday in Yourells is different and has different challenges; it’s one of the things I love about my job.

Styling

The Urban Wave The beachy wave has given way to the urban bend- a loose, relaxed curve in the hair that’s effortlessly cool and easy to achieve. This street-ready style only requires a rough blowdry, subtle curls with the iron and a raking through with the hands to create the right amount of undone-ness. Seen at Calvin Klein and Givenchy to name just a few, it’s the perfect laid back style for Spring/Summer. Suitable for mid-length to long hair.

The Retro Inspiration There was a strong reference to the past seen on the runways of Diane Von Furstenberg, Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gautier. From barrel curls to beehives and everything in between, these hairstyles incorporating a modern twist will prove popular this season. Suitable for longer hair of medium to thick texture.

The Side-Part Whether you have short or long hair or something in between, the side-part is the fashionable hair parting for 2012. It should be worn deep with a razor-clean line and can be worn pulled back, half-up or all down and is compatible with a large number of other hair trends this season.

Cutting

Long and Bouncy Long hair is still making waves for spring/summer 2012. However it’s moved on from last years barely there layers to shorter softer layers throughout to create more internal texture. Opt for a centre parting or move it to the side for this season’s hottest hair parting. If Rosie Huntington Whitely is your hair inspiration this is the look for you.

The Rock Crop/Pixie Crop With so many fans the crop isn’t disappearing from amongst 2012’s haircut trends. But it is being adapted. We’re seeing the punk crop of last season deviate to create the rock crop. The long tear drop fringe is now shorter and the overall look has more texture. The rock crop takes on an androgynous edge in 2012 popularised by Lanvin in both of their seasonal catwalks this year. If you are brave enough to go all the way then cut a very short fringe to create the pixie crop, a strong look for next season.

The Bob/Mid Length The bob once again is the style to emerge in 2012. Whether you wear it long and layered or short and graduated, the key is to dress the hair so that it has movement, accentuating waves and curls. Cameron Diaz is right on trend with her short textured beach bob.

Colour

Shimmering brunettes Brunettes move out of the warm and into shades of earthy mauves and shimmering golds. Working with a block of base colour, hand-painted panels of tones from complementary palettes are added to create a multi-dimensional look that shines to give the appearance of luxurious texture.

Sunset coppers Redheads should opt for coppery colours and sunset shades as the trend. Spring/summer 2012 moves away from intense Rihanna red’s to soft burnt oranges. Tangerine hues are great for warming up winter skin and enhancing green and blue eyes. With coppers and reds, if you go too dramatic you might clash with your skin tone, the general rule is for cooler skin tones, use deeper bluey reds, for warmer skin tones stay on the coppery fiery scale. Anyone can go red this season but you must pick the right shade for your skin tone.

Bronde: the new blonde ‘Bronde’ hair colour (or a mix of brown and blonde) is all the rage this season. Stars like Gossip Girl Blake Lively, Jennifer Aniston and Gisele Bundchen are all sporting this stylish hue. It has gained popularity not only because it’s a low maintenance version of blonde and an upgraded version of brown, but because it’s less expensive to maintain as well. In times like this, we are all trying to pinch pennies where we can, and although we don’t always want to give up spending money on our beauty rituals, we can choose a style/ colour that will fit into our budget.
