Before the Ring, and Proposal Although Amanda and Mike both attended Fairfield University, they did not meet until after graduating, at a New York City bar, during an informal college reunion Christmas party. Mike popped the question on the rooftop of the apartment building where they first lived together. Afterwards he had their families surprise Amanda at the restaurant where they had their first date, and friends arrived to surprise them at the bar where they first met. Block Island because…… Amanda grew up spending family vacations on the island for over 20 years. Always loving the beauty of the island, Amanda thought it would be an amazing place to get married. Wedding Day A favorite moment from the ceremony was seeing each other for the first time inside the church, having such special people do the readings and seeing the church filled with friends and family. The reception was at the Spring House Hotel. The cocktail hour on the porch, outside bar, and lawn overlooking the water was spectacular. Big hits at the reception were the sushi platter during cocktail hour, the lobster at dinner, and the late-night pizza and sliders at the bar. Having dinner in the dining room, with the bar, band, and dancing in the Parlor, allowed everyone to talk during dinner, and then let loose on the dance floor afterwards. Amanda and Mike felt that seeing all of their families and friends at the same

time, in the same place, was such an incredible moment, and certainly a most wonderful memory. Wedding Weekend Amanda and Mike included their wedding website with the invitation. The website had a list of details, ferry and accommodation information, along with a list of local restaurants and bars. Arriving guests were treated to welcome bags in mini coolers with personalized hot sauce, Pop the Block popcorn, and water. Amanda and Mike also had mudslides waiting for their guests upon arrival as they got off the Montauk ferry. The rehearsal dinner kicked off the weekend on Friday at The Beachead, outside on the front porch. Following the rehearsal dinner, a “welcome party” for the rest of the guests was held on the front porch of The National Hotel, overlooking Old Harbor. A farewell brunch was hosted on Sunday on the back veranda at the Spring House. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Don’t look at the weather, but order umbrellas just in case! It always seems the more you prepare for rain, the less of a chance it happens. 2. Use local vendors, they know the Island the best. 3. Just relax and enjoy everything! You are on Block Island, it’s already a perfect wedding.

Before the Ring, and Proposal Anasheh and Brandon met in a rustic dive bar in the small town of Chelan, WA, where they locked eyes for the very first time while on a weekend getaway with friends. Despite having lived in the same town for years their paths had never crossed. The weekend passed, they exchanged contact information, and four months later were a couple. On a trip to Whistler, BC with both of their families, Brandon proposed to Anasheh on a private tour of a champagne cellar at the Barefoot Bistro. Block Island because…… Brandon spent summers visiting Block Island while growing up, and introduced Anasheh to the island in 2016. She quickly fell in love with everything about it, and they knew Block Island would be the perfect place to have a wedding — something out of the ordinary. Wedding Day Anansheh and Brandon did “first look” photos at the bluffs and in New Harbor on the docks. The ceremony was on the lawn of The Sullivan House and highlights included reading vow’s that the couple wrote for each other, the 360-degree view, and the stunning sunset. Favorites at the reception included a raw bar during the

cocktail hour, filet mignon with lobster tail for dinner and the dessert bar with a three-tier cake from Sugar Rush. After the reception, guests were transported to the Hotel Manisses to continue the celebrations, in Armenian fashion, with more food and dancing. Wedding Weekend Since many guests were traveling from the West Coast, shuttles were reserved from Logan airport to the Block Island ferries. Many friends and family made the wedding into a vacation by renting homes for the entire week. This made the week leading up the wedding especially joyful and exciting. The rehearsal dinner was held at The Surf Hotel, overlooking the beach. After dinner, tables were rearranged for a cocktail hour and welcome event for all of their guests. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Hire a wedding planner that knows the island. We could not have done this without Summer Sisters. 2. Invest in capturing the day – because it goes by so quickly. 3. If your veil flies off, let it go and have faith that things will work out.

Before the Ring, and Proposal  Elizabeth and Ted both grew up spending summers on the island, first meeting as teenagers. Their older sisters were good friends, and their parents became friends over the years, as well. The summer after college is when they started dating, while Elizabeth worked at The Oar and Ted worked at the Boat Basin. Ted proposed to Elizabeth on top of Vail Mountain in February of last year in the middle of a snow storm. Block Island Because......  Block Island was a natural choice for Elizabeth and Ted’s wedding location. It is where they fell in love, and love to be. Wedding Day Elizabeth and Ted did their “first look” on the north end of the island with the North Light as their back-drop. It gave them some time before the ceremony to connect, relax and take in the moment. The ceremony was held outside at the Narragansett Inn, facing the water and marinas. The combination of natural and relaxed is what Elizabeth and Ted hoped for their day. Ted’s Uncle Paco officiated the ceremony — it was important for the pair that some-

12

one they know well be part of that experience. All of the decorating was done by Elizabeth and her mother, with help from family and friends. Wedding Weekend  The weekend kicked off with a gathering of guests at Mohogany Shoals in New Harbor. The rehearsal dinner was a lobster boil at The Surf Hotel. At the end of the weekend, Elizabeth and Ted hosted a brunch at the Block Island Club before people departed. Those who hadn’t visited the island before were excited to visit for the first time. And, much of the extended family, who may have visited for vacations when they were younger, said that they were so excited to return. Many families took advantage of the opportunity and spent a whole week vacationing on the island. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Don’t stress the little things! 2. Remember to take some time for yourselves the day of the wedding to appreciate the day and everything that went into it. 3. Ask for help; people want to help.

Jordan Schwartz & Kevin Turner Jr. September 21, 2018 Jordan: 26, from Ellicott City, MD Kevin: 27, from Falmouth, MA  Now reside in: Ellicott City, MD

Photos by Move Mountains Co.

The Details Ceremony: Spring House Hotel   Reception & Catering: Spring House Hotel   Rehearsal Dinner: The National Hotel   Photographer: Move Mountains Co.   Videographer: Move Mountains Co.   Music: Island Wedding Entertainment - DJ Jon O’Neill   Flowers: Painted Rock designs  Doughnuts: Aldo’s Bakery Hair & Makeup: Koru Eco Spa

Before the Ring, and Proposal Jordan and Kevin were both attending UMass Amherst; Kevin was in his junior year and Jordan was a sophomore. About a month into the fall semester of 2011, they bumped into each other at a party, and remember locking eyes from across the room. On a trip to the island in July of 2016, Kevin brought Jordan to the Southeast Light to see if they could spot any sharks, and suddenly Kevin was on his knee proposing. The pair celebrated alone for a little bit before family arrived to hug and celebrate. Block Island Because......  Jordan’s family’s vacations to Block Island started 50 years ago when her grandparents would stay at The Surf Hotel. Returning each summer since 2001, Jordan says each trip to the island has become a staple in their lives and such a special time to look forward to. The island has become their second home. Wedding Day The “first look” on the breakwall was both beautiful and surreal to Jordan and Kevin, a special moment alone before the ceremony. Jordan and Kevin’s best friend officiated the ceremony, personalizing the occasion and making everyone feel involved. A taco bar was unique, and a huge hit with guests. The vision was to keep it very casual. Dessert was none other than Aldo's donuts which were displayed on a DIY donuts wall. The reception was a full-on

14

dance party on the back ocean view terrace under twinkling lights, and overlooking the ocean. Wedding Weekend  Jordan and Kevin created a wedding website detailed with information for their guests. Kevin's father and stepmother hosted the rehearsal dinner at The National Hotel, featuring fresh Block Island lobster and swordfish, followed by a welcome bonfire at Ballard's beach, hosted by Jordan’s parents. The ceremony was held on a Friday on the picturesque front lawn of the Spring House Hotel. Guests were invited to a "hangover" brunch the next morning that took place at The Hotel Manisses in the garden. To round out the weekend, guests were invited to The Oar for margaritas and mudslides to present the wedding oar, which also doubled as their guest book. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Definitely consider a long engagement! We got engaged in July 2016 and tied the knot in September 2018. Yes, two years. And it was so worth it. 2. Utilize the entire island to make the trip and experience the best it can be for your guests. 3. Make it your own. We threw traditions out the window and tailored each event to our personalities.

Kimberly Guja & Stephen Zoerner June 24, 2018 Kim: 32, from Babylon, NY  Steve: 36, from San Clemente, CA  Now reside in: Babylon, NY

The Details Ceremony & Reception: Cushman House   Catering: Catering by Kimberly  Rehearsal Dinner: The Beachead   Photographer: Trevor Holden Photography   Music: DJ Josh Maldy   Flowers: La Bella Rose  Cake: Sugar Rush   Hair & Make-up: Salt Hair Shop Wedding planner: Summer Sisters

Before the Ring, and Proposal Kim and Steve met shortly after Steve opened their now family business, Swell Taco. After a long shift in the kitchen, Steve walked out to grab a beer when Kim walked in and she caught his attention right away. As timing would have it, it was the perfect segway to introduce himself, offer her a beer and talk at the bar until the restaurant closed. Steve says he knew she was the one for him. Block Island Because......  It was the first place Kim and Steve traveled to as a couple back in 2014, and they have continued to return each year since. The couple feels it’s a magical and special place — and since family and friends are beach lovers and surfers, they knew that they would love it just as much. Wedding Day   The weather that day was Kim’s idea of a quintessential Block Island day — calm wind, the air was warm, and the skies were hazy, yet bright. Seeing each other at a first look on a hillside in a beautifully wooded setting is one of Kim and Steve’s favorite memories of the day. The wedding ceremony was held on the lawn of the home, and their officiant was “Uncle Brother Martin” (Steve’s Uncle). His sermon was enjoyed by all. A barbecuestyle buffet was served, as it suited the casual backyard atmosphere. Speeches by Steve’s sister and best man were priceless and to top it all, a speech via video projection from a cousin who lives is Switzerland was a total

18

surprise to the couple, and left the whole crowd laughing and crying all at the same time. Wedding Weekend   Kim and Steve created a wedding website with information regarding where to stay, their favorite hang-out spots, and transportation on how to get to Block Island. The only thing they would have changed was to get married earlier in the week — to have more time with guests after the wedding. A welcome beach party with a bonfire kicked off the weekend, and a rehearsal dinner was held at The Beachead — one of Kim and Steve’s favorite restaurants. Throughout the week, the ocean had less than ideal surf conditions until the morning of the wedding — the conditions cleaned up and Steve and his father got to enjoy a father and son surf session as Kim and the girls watched from the house, sipping on champagne. Several of the couple’s close friends ended up staying an extra night because they were having so much fun. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Plan at least a year ahead of time! 2. Always consider weather and the possibility of travelers having difficulty getting there. 3. Get as much planning and preparation done before you get there so you can enjoy the island with your guests.

The Details Ceremony: On the beach at Ballard’s Inn   Reception & Catering: Ballard’s Inn  Rehearsal Dinner: The National Hotel   Photographer: Eisley Images   Music: DJ John Brazile   Flowers: Costco  Cake: Aldo’s Bakery   Nails: Koru Eco Spa

Before the Ring, and Proposal  Julie and Brendan met on the online dating application, Tinder, and through mutual friends while Julie was in college.  Block Island Because......   It was their first vacation together, and they both fell in love with the island. Although at the time they were not engaged, they saw weddings going on and both knew that if they did indeed get married, that Block Island was the spot. Wedding Day  With a beach wedding planned, the weather was perfect. The ceremony included music sung by Julie’s uncle and a “sand ceremony”.With the reception inside at Ballard’s, it was convenient for everyone to be at the same location for the entire day. Brendan’s cousin Nicole sang the first dance song, and the dancing was a big hit. A cake ceremony was a nice touch, along with the traditional bouquet toss and garter belt. All of the centerpieces and decorations were made by Julie and Brendan, with help from family and friends.

20

Wedding Weekend   Julie and Brendan had a welcome bonfire on the beach at Ballard’s, which included appetizers and beach bar — a great way to have everybody together, especially for the guests who traveled far to be at the wedding. They handed out welcome bags at the bonfire, which included maps of the island and snacks. A rehearsal dinner was held for the bridal party at The National Hotel on the evening before the big day and an informal and casual brunch was held the day after the wedding at Aldo’s Bakery. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Hire a local wedding planner who knows Block Island well. It is worth the extra money to be stress free on your wedding day. 2. Make it a wedding weekend! Do this by adding a welcome party and goodbye brunch surrounding the wedding. 3. Come early and stay late — enjoy the island. Make sure you have time before and after your wedding to relax.

Island Inspiration Little details go a long way Planning a wedding on Block Island means that you must prepare your guests for all the island has to offer — with as much information as possible. Save-the-Dates and invitations are just the tip of the iceberg! Many brides include detailed inserts for guests — accommodations, transportation (ferry and flight schedules) fun things to do and featured weekend events — so each guest can plan accordingly. Many couples suggest launching a “wedding website” — an easy reference for friends and family — that can be updated easily to inform guests of events or changes. Printed itineraries, local attractions or restaurant suggestions — as well as wedding day menus or programs are also fun ideas for guests. Photo by Michael Benson Photography

The Details Ceremony: The Atlantic Inn   Reception & Catering: The Atlantic Inn  Rehearsal Dinner: The Atlantic Inn   Photographer: Michael Benson Photography   Videographer: Glen Andrew Productions   Music: Cameron Greenlee, DJ Libre (Danielle Duffy)   Flowers: La Bella Rose  Cake: The Atlantic Inn   Favors: Littlefield Bee Farm honey   Hair: Salt Hair Shop

Before the Ring, and Proposal Kaitlin and Chris met through mutual friends that Kaitlin had met on Block Island when she was 15. A favorite thing to do is to go for long walks around the island. Two years ago, on a birthday trip to the island in April, Chris proposed after walking five miles from their condo to the North Light. It was just the two of them on the beach and it was perfect. Block Island Because......  Kaitlin's parents and family have been visiting Block Island for 40 years, boating, renting, and eventually buying a home. Kaitlin spent most of her summers growing up visiting the island, so when she and Chris started dating ten years ago, Block Island was one of the first places she brought him. Wedding Day Having an intimate first look and photos at the Ocean View Pavilion with just the bridal party was special to Kaitlin and Chris. The ceremony was at The Atlantic Inn on the lawn. The pastor from Kaitlin’s family church officiated, making it very personal, including doing research at their high schools to find their yearbook quotes — making for a meaningful and relatable ceremony. Kaitlin and Chris loved the different music options for the day. With acoustic versions to the songs they love for the ceremony,

24

a reggae trio for the cocktail hour(s), and DJ Libre for the reception, keeping everyone dancing all night.  Wedding Weekend  Kaitlin and Chris had all of the wedding events at The Atlantic Inn. With everything being in one place, and with most people staying in close proximity, everyone could relax since transportation was never an issue. A barbeque rehearsal dinner was held on the front lawn of the inn, and afterwards they invited everyone else up to the inn for cocktails and desserts. Many guests took time between events to go bike riding, relax at the beach, or explore the island. All were invited to a farewell brunch on Sunday morning — a great time to see everyone one last time if they were leaving on Sunday, and a time the couple could say goodbye to their guests. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Take time the night before everyone gets there to just be together. 2. Encourage guests to book lodging ahead of time if not staying at the wedding location. 3. If everything isn’t at one place, make sure to set up transportation. Use local vendors - they know the island and it promotes local business.

Block Island Engagement: Emily Getler & Chris Rago

“While living in San Francisco, we took a trip back east to visit family and spend a week at my family’s summer house on Vaill Beach. It has been in my family for three generations and I have spent time there every summer since I was an infant, including living and working there during summers through college, and after graduation. Chris quickly learned how much this little island meant to me and so it became one of his favorite places as well. On the way up the stairs after a beach day, I spotted a coveted Glass Float and turned around to find him on one knee with ring in hand. “Marry Me Emma?” was inscribed on the float. Both of our families were waiting at the top of the stairs to celebrate with champagne and a lobster dinner. He proposed at my favorite place in the world, but five years and five cities later, home is wherever I’m with him. My mom and four of her sisters met their spouses on Block Island. Three of my aunts and many cousins were married there. The love runs deep in our family for this special little place and now we are planning our own Island wedding for Summer 2020!”

“The best day of my life was when my fiancé Evan and I got engaged on Block Island! Arriving on a morning ferry from New London, we had breakfast at The Surf Hotel, and decided to rent bicycles to bike up to the Mohegan Bluffs. Once we got to the bluffs we walked down the stairs to take in the gorgeous views and snap some pictures. Evan wanted someone to take our picture before we left, so we waited until a young couple in the distance hiked up to where we were. As I readied myself for the picture, Evan was rifling around in his backpack. What I didn’t realize was that he was trying to get my ring out of his backpack and once he did, he walked up to me and got down on one knee. Needless to say, I was completely shocked, and lucky for us, every moment was captured with photographs. The crowd around us erupted into applause and we were congratulated all the way back up the stairs. Evan had arranged for our closest friends and family to meet us for the day to celebrate at Ballards, and at the Yellow Kittens for the world’s best mudslides. Our day ended with dinner at The National Hotel, where we witnessed a beautiful sunset before taking the ferry home. It was the absolute most perfect day, and we wish we could relive it over and over.”

Meaghan McLaughlin & Andrew Johnson September 29, 2018 Maeghan: 27, from Indiana  Andrew: 27, from San Diego, CA   Now reside in: Cranston, RI

Photos by Aaron Collins Photography

The Details Ceremony & Reception: Block Island Maritime Institute   Catering: Catering by Kimberly  Rehearsal Dinner: Held at a private residence   Photographer: Aaron Collins Photography  Videographer: Back Story Videography  Music: DJ Libre (Danielle Duffy)   Flowers: Stop & Shop, arranged by a friend.  Cake: Misty Seekins   Transportation: Block Island Ferry Bus

Before the Ring, and Proposal Meaghan and Andrew met at a party held by two of their friends at a local bar. After finally being introduced that evening, Andrew didn’t ask her for her number, but over the next few weeks at another get-together, Andrew finally asked Meaghan for a date. They have been inseparable ever since. After a nice dinner in Providence one evening, Andrew suggested grabbing an after-dinner drink, and a walk along the Providence River. It was there that Andrew pulled off Maeghan’s hood (it was 20 degrees and she was bundled up like an Eskimo), and held out a ring. Block Island Because......  Meaghan and Andrew choose Block Island because it holds a special meaning for both. Andrew and his family would spend summers and vacation time on the island, and now some of his family are residents. Once they started dating, the couple would spend almost every weekend in the summers on the island, as well as off-season major holidays. Having a Block Island wedding allowed them to share their favorite place with their nearest and dearest. Wedding Day The ceremony was held in the backyard of Block Island Maritime Institute. Everything about the wedding was DIY. The bridal party was a huge help with all the details, set up, breakdown, and everything in-between. One bridesmaid did all of the flowers (centerpieces, bouquets,

30

and boutineers); Andrew made the mixed drinks ahead of time, and the groomsmen set up everything the morning of the wedding. Friends of the couple, Nick and Alisha, officiated the ceremony. Rather than favors, the couple sent the reception guests to McAloon’s in a chartered bus for drinks, after-party snacks, and live music by Kelly and the Cunningham’s. Wedding Weekend  The entire wedding party came out the Thursday before the wedding, and had a welcome party and family dinner at a private residence, after the weather changed their plans from a beach bonfire and barbecue. Later that night, after everyone else left, the bridal parties had a pool party — a great way to celebrate and let loose before wedding stress and duties set in. A light farewell brunch was held at the bridal party house before guests said farewell. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Involve the island and its treasures in your wedding weekend, if possible. Make it an experience! 2. At the wedding, an open bar and yard games will never be a bad time. 3. Understand that “island time” is a real thing, and adjust accordingly. However, don’t assume that minimal communication means things are on track. Check in with your vendors.

Photos by Angelina Rose Photography

The Details Ceremony: The Atlantic Inn   Reception & Catering: The Atlantic Inn  Rehearsal Dinner: The Atlantic Inn   Photographer: Angelina Rose Photography   Music: Joel Buff , DJ   Flowers: Painted Rock Designs  Favors: Homemade fudge and toffee  Cake & Sweets: The Atlantic Inn, Sugar Rush  Transportation: Rice Bus Tours

Before the Ring, and Proposal Matt and Stephen met while attending Northeastern University in Boston, but only just before Matt transferred to Roger Williams. They stayed in touch via Twitter for four years, until they finally exchanged phone numbers, and turned a weekend night out with friends into a weekday date alone, and the rest was history. Stephen proposed to Matt on a trip with friends to St. Maartin. Block Island Because......  Matt and Stephen visited Block Island a few times over the past few years and fell in love with it. With the laid back atmosphere and the scenic views, they knew it was where they wanted to tie the knot. Wedding Day The couple had a family member officiate the ceremony on the lawn at The Atlantic Inn, overlooking the ocean and town. Photos at the Southeast Lighthouse and a scenic tour with the wedding party was a highlight. Following the ceremony, the afternoon kicked off with cocktails, appetizers, a Del’s Lemonade cart, and a raw bar, followed by the reception inside the tent. Matt and Stephen bought the wedding party light-up shoes for the reception, so after the wedding, everyone changed into their shoes and literally lit up the dance floor.

32

Wedding Weekend  A wedding website provided guests with travel and destination information, with separate pages dedicated to lodging , getting to/from the island from New York, Connecticut, or Rhode Island, and activities to do throughout the weekend. Matt and Stephen hosted a welcome party at a private residence — a great way for everyone to get together and start the weekend festivities. On Sunday, a farewell hip-hop-themed brunch for guests was held at The Atlantic Inn, to say thanks and to fill their stomachs before the ferry ride back. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. We had a few days on the island before the wedding - it helped us nail down all the details and not have to stress too much on the actual day.   2. Although you don’t normally need a car to get around the island, having one to run any errands or visit your vendors was definitely helpful.  3. Many of your guests may have never been to Block Island, be sure to provide all the details on how to get to and from the island, along with a list of things to do.

34

Before the Ring and Proposal  Meredith and Ryan met at Providence College in 2009. The two were introduced by their mutual friend Conor Duggan, who was a classmate at Providence College. Block Island Because...... Block Island quickly became Meredith and Ryan’s favorite place to visit when they started dating. Over the years it became very special to them, and then even more special when they were engaged on the island in September of 2017.  Wedding Day  Meredith and her bridesmaids enjoyed brunch at the 1661 Inn and got ready at the Mitchell Cottage while Ryan and his groomsmen relaxed and got ready at The Sullivan House. The pouring rain broke just before the ceremony at St. Andrew Church and held off until after their cocktail hour on The Sullivan House lawn where a double rainbow provided a great back-drop for photos. Guests enjoyed a raw bar and sushi on the lawn for cocktail hour before heading into the tent for dinner and dancing. They ended the night with a fireworks show and then headed to the after party at Yellow Kittens

Wedding Weekend A wedding website listed information on how to get to the island, where they had room-blocks, what to do, where to eat, what to see, etc. Save the dates were sent out early — almost 9 months in advance! 150 guests traveled from near and far to the island for the weekend and enjoyed celebrations Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Thursday, those who were on the island met at The Oar to enjoy the sunshine and mudslides. Friday, the couple had their rehearsal dinner at the Spring House Hotel before a welcome reception on the back deck at The National Hotel. Top 3 pieces of advice: 1. Be organized and prepared, but don’t be scared of the logistics of planning an island wedding 2. Be prepared for a full weekend of fun, it’s what makes a destination wedding so special. 3. Give your guests tips on where to go and what to do while they are on the island – we used our wedding website for this and people loved being able to visit our favorite spots on the island.

The Details Ceremony: Southeast Lighthouse  Reception: Narragansett Inn   Catering: 1661 Inn  Rehearsal Dinner: The National Hotel   Photographer: Alison Sweeney Photography   Flowers: Painted Rock Designs  Cake: Aldo’s Bakery   Tent & Rentals: Block Island Party Rentals

Before the Ring, and Proposal  Tracey and Stephen met online. They met for a drink after speaking a few times on the phone and spent hours talking and getting to know each other. Stephen proposed to Tracey on the beach in the Outer Banks in North Carolina on a morning walk. Block Island Because......  Block Island has always been this family’s special place. Both avid sailors, the first place Tracey and Stephen ever sailed to, on the first sailboat that they owned together, was to Block Island. The pair wanted to share a place they have come to know and love with family and friends. Wedding Day  Tracey and Stephen rented the island school bus to collect guests at the ferry the morning of the ceremony, and transport them to the Southeast lighthouse. A good friend officiated the ceremony and Tracey and Stephen wanted their children (from first marriages) to stand with them, making a statement that this was not just Stephen and Tracey’s wedding — but the wedding of the FischerGaetz family. While the ceremony took place, tourists speckled the background and spontaneous applause erupted from the crowd after the “kiss the bride” moment.

36

The reception was at the Narragansett Inn, on the lawn facing the Great Salt Pond, under a tent. The comfortable weather, beautiful view, and classic New England ambiance of the inn made for an unforgettable afternoon. Wedding Weekend  To kick things off, friends held a cocktail party for the couple on their sailboat anchored in the Great Salt Pond. The evening before the wedding, Tracey, Stephen and their children Abby (16), Alex (14), Gigi (12) and Wally (10) had dinner at The National Hotel, outside on the porch. After the reception, the new family walked out to the North Light and enjoyed seeing the harbor seals, and relaxing on the point. The couple spent Sunday afternoon with friends, who had not yet departed, on the lawn of the Narragansett Inn, enjoying the view. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding:  1. Relax and don’t be in a rush.   2. Plan your menu around what Block Island has to offer locally. 3. Give guests plenty of notice and instructions in getting to, and around, the island.

The Details Ceremony: St. Andrew Church  Reception & Catering: The Atlantic Inn  Rehearsal Dinner: The Atlantic Inn  Photographer: Snap Weddings  Music: Island Wedding Entertainment  Flowers: Painted Rock Designs  Cake: The Atlantic Inn  Decor: Ryan Designs  Hair: Salt Hair Shop

38

Before the Ring, and Proposal  Victoria and Sebastian met in high school band. Victoria was a freshman in high school, while Sebastian was a junior. She played the flute, and he played the saxophone. A mutual friend introduced them. Sebastian proposed on Block Island at Settler’s Rock. Block Island Because......  Victoria’s family has a connection with Block Island – starting in 1661. Victoria’s parents bought a place on the island when she was young, so they have spent a lot of time on the island. “Block Island is truly an amazing, magical place!”, she says. Wedding Day  The ceremony was at St. Andrew’s Church with their own priest from home, a recommendation from the couple to others because it makes the day even more special. With touches of Polish and German cultures throughout the wedding, the groomsmen sang “Sto Lat,” a traditional celebratory song in Polish. Highlights for the couple included finally being able to say “I Do!” and for Victoria, having her father walk her down the aisle to Sebastian.

Wedding Weekend   In every hotel, the couple provided welcome bags filled with sunscreen, maps of the island, and a written, detailed itinerary. It included places to eat, drink, island advice for the beach goer, hiker, etc. The rehearsal dinner with close family and friends was held at The Atlantic Inn, and the couple thought it was incredibly romantic and absolutely delicious. After the rehearsal dinner, a bonfire was held at Ballard’s beach where light snacks and drinks were served. Victoria and Sebastian thought this was one of the best parts of the weekend — all of the guests had the opportunity to connect with each other before the wedding. An elaborate farewell brunch was held at The Atlantic Inn on Sunday. Top 3 pieces of advice for having an island wedding: 1. Reserve everything two years in advance, if you can. The sooner you make all of your reservations, the better. 2 Keep in contact with your vendors throughout the year. 3. Don’t be alarmed when it takes island vendors a while to contact you back; they really do work on island time.

Wedding parties of two or more people

July 15, 2018

“When the time came to propose I knew that Block Island would be the perfect place to do it, as we have been going together every year due to the family tradition my parents started. My parents, Ed and Rebecca Bogaert got engaged near the Southeast Lighthouse in 1987, and since then have come back every year. Nikki and I have shared so many great memories on Block Island that it would be impossible to list them all but the most memorable is of course the day of our engagement. We had planned a day trip for just the two of us, but little did she know that our families would be there to surprise her after I popped the question at the Southeast Lighthouse. I had a well thought-out speech to say before I got down on one knee, but I was so overwhelmed with excitement that I had to cut directly to “will you marry me”. After she had said yes, we went to The Oar for lunch, where our families were waiting to surprise her. The moment she saw everyone, tears of joy came running down her face and in that moment I knew Block Island was the right choice. Block Island will always have a special place in our hearts, and we can only dream to have a house there someday and be a part of such a great community. We are counting down the days to our wedding on October 10, 2020.”
