Letter From The Editor Also unsurprisingly, most bloggers mentioned that their highlight was meeting and spending time with kindred spirits, with people who love and understand the meaning and importance of design and being able to share the excitement and inspiration with their readers. The BlogTour community continues to grow through the support of past and future participants, sponsors as it offers design and lifestyle bloggers a chance to explore new design trends and different cultures while highlighting the inspired content these talented writers and photographers create every day.

New York , New York! What a wonderful town indeed – vibrant, creative, driven, stylish, hip and a bit chaotic – New York City means something different to everyone and presents itself with different personalities in every part of town, personalities that all meld back into one, undeniably alluring, metropolis. A place where anything goes.

Apple and I look forward to meeting more of you national design destinations.

BlogTour NYC was our second tour after launching the concept at London Design Festival last year when we brought a group of design and lifestyle bloggers from the US and Canada to the UK to report back to their audiences and provide of local culture. This time, we brought bloggers from the UK, Germany and the US to meet up faces, showrooms, shops, design studios and the AD Show. thoughts about the tour and their favorite places and were not surprised to see opinions range from the elegance of the D&D building, the crenoon spent with Jonathan Adler.

The chance to travel to New York with 14 other bloggers and spend the week ‘discovering design’ – yes I could clear my schedule for this. I will be eternally thankfully to the long list of suppliers who made Blog Tour NYC possible. If you are ever invited to attend a tour, just clear your schedule and immerse yourself, I can promise you won’t regret it.

I knew in September 2011, the initial launch of Blogtour, that I was going to try my hardest to make the next one. When January 2012 rolled around and I saw my name floating around FaceBook and Twitter as one of the attendees, I flipped with excitement. Blogtour – TheWorld Designed is much more than a chance to travel with my virtual friends; it is an exploration of the design world beyond the borders of your front door and real life connections beyond the Internet.

The challenge to break down the Best of Blog Tour NYC was an insane struggle for me. Touring NYC with some of the hippest, most fun and creative people I’ve ever met, and getting the inside scoop on everything new and noteworthy in the design world provided me with enough highlights to write a book!

Choosing just one highlight from five days of wonder and excitement is a near impossible task! showroom of luxury kitchen company of Poggenpohl I love is their collaborative nature, in this case with upscale sink and faucet manufacturer Blanco, the perfect symbiotic relationship! Beginning with a tour of products and the showroom, Blanco presented some of their latest and greatest, which indeed are, and work beautifully within the handsome Poggenpohl framework. I have owned several Blanco sinks and can personally attest to their excellence in design, quality and longevity.”

“My favorite of Blanco’s latest line up is their new Cerana Apron Front sink. Its clever reversible design can swing traditional or more contemporary depending on how you position it, with rounded corners on one side and sharper more modern contours on the other. Unlike many bulkier fireclay sinks, it has a tant to stain and chipping. This is a total winner in my book. Poggenpohl has forged another partnership with well known chef Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin fame. It is the perfect pairing of two innovators in their respective fields, developing a kitchen that is an ideal merging of cook to be socially involved with their guests in a beautiful well functioning space. Day Four: Free Day in NYC

I

had no idea how wildly successful the walking tour that I had arranged on last day for BlogTourNYC would be. I suggested to Veronika Miller of Modenus that Leaf Magazine would like to sponsor a private tour of The High Line for her visiting interior and lifestyle bloggers. I thought shows and showrooms would be interesting for them.

Even though The High Line has gotten incredible publicity and is now a major tourist attraction in New York City, it is, like all outdoor spaces much more impressive in real life than it will ever be in photographs. Designed by James Corner’s Field Operations on elevated railroad tracks winding through the far west side of Manhattan and almost at the Hudson River, The High Line offers a different view of the city and its concrete canyons. The naturalistic plantings designed by renowned plantsman, Piet Oudolf offer a counterpoint to all of that hard-edged urbanism.

The late March weather couldn’t have been more perfect. Sunny and warm, we met at the northern end of Section 2 at 30th Street. Up the steps they came, most unaware of what they were going to experience. The High Line is also high style outside. The neighborhood has grown up around it and is now one of the most expensive and sought after. World class architects like Jean Nouvel and Frank Gehry have designed buildings in what was once a neighborhood of warehouses and industrial buildings. The Whitney Museum of American Art is building its new museum there. We walked the entire length taking pictures, talking about New York, discussing design ideas and generally enjoying the morning. When we got almost to the end of the new section – what’s currently the middle of the park, we stopped for a photo to remember the sunny day and the lasting friendships that were made.

BDDW Closing Party

I

rejoined the group for a farewell dinner at the spectacular bddw showroom. A small company with a big reputation, this American furniture maker has been creating heirloom quality pieces under the watchful direction of founder Tyler Hays for years. A singularly spectacular space, complete with beautiful handmade pieces and archery range, we indulged our inner Robin Hoods while we enjoyed the amazing design experience.

B

DDW’s pieces successfully bridge the gap between clean-line design and classic americana, creating a look that is both innovative, and comfortingly rustic. you can’t walk into the showroom without being struck by how gorgeous every piece is, and we were all oohing and aahing over the tiny bird sculptures cluttered on one our places at the archery line-up and pose for photographs on the showroom’s two iconic american motorcycles. — Kate Baxter

Tyler Hays, founder of BDDW, was present at the Blog Tour closing event, as well as other members of the design community that collaborated with the Blog Tour. The evening event at BDDW was the last night of an incredible week in New York with Modenus. A topic of conversation that evening Tour was craftsmanship, and “a connection to quality. — David John
