WELCOME TO BLOODY SCOTLAND 2017! We are delighted to announce the programme for our sixth festival in historic Stirling, featuring a truly international line-up of some of the biggest and most exciting names in crime fiction.

The weekend kicks off in the grandest style with a gala opening in the Great Hall of Stirling Castle with the launch of a Bloody Scotland short story anthology, the award of the McIlvanney Prize and a stunning torchlight procession from the castle to the Albert Halls. It is, of course, a castle fit for royalty and luckily, we have just that in Ian Rankin and Val McDermid, the king and queen of Scottish crime, who both celebrate 30 year anniversaries with special events.

There is a quiz, a play, forensics, the Scotland-England crime writers football match, a late-night gig from the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers, a live podcast and Crime at the Coo. There continues to be a discount for local residents, tickets for the unemployed and this year we have improved disabled access and are providing a mini-bus between venues for those that need it. On the subject of venues, we are delighted to add Allan Park South Church hall as a new venue. Located at 41 Dumbarton Rd, Stirling FK8 2LQ and only a very short walk from the Albert Halls.

CRIME IN THE SPOTLIGHT Bloody Scotland is continuing its drive to support new authors by letting them share a stage with the biggest names in the business. Before the Albert Halls events, emerging writers will have the chance to read from their work. Spotlight authors have gone on to great things, not least Graeme Macrae Burnet who â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;openedâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; for Ian Rankin before being shortlisted for the 2016 Man Booker Prize. This year the Spotlight prior to the Val McDermid event will be used to announce the winner of the New Female Crime Writer Award launched by Virago in association with The Pool. It is 30 years since Ian’s famous Edinburgh copper came to life on the pages of Knots & Crosses and he has thrilled us ever since.
