This season, there are two themes in our fashion offerings First, our suite of fashion and culture books bring a fresh perspective on the motivations of how humans adorn themselves The 50th anniversary edition of The Visible Self explores the understanding of the body; the second edition of Social Psychology of Dress delves into cultural influences on today’s trends; and the 5th edition of The Meanings of Dress decolonizes the normative Eurocentric approach to fashion and dress studies

The second theme was technical design The 4th edition of Fitting and Pattern Alteration addresses diverse body sizing and sustainability; the 4th edition of Technical Sourcebook for Apparel Designers investigates current trends in entrepreneurship and the job market, updates on buying seasons as affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the 4th edition of Complete Guide to Size Specification and Technical Design has updated tech packs

On the interior design list, I’m thrilled to spotlight a key title for you all Over 10 years ago, Mark Hinchman wrote the 1st edition of The History of Furniture, which was a compendium focused on western history that brought together insights on interior design, architecture, furniture, material culture, and more This season, we bring you the 2nd edition, but with a twist It’s now called History of Interior Architecture: Furniture, Design, and Global Culture The new title describes the content more thoroughly and shows you what the key change is: a global perspective rather than just focusing on western history

We’ve been so happy to have spent the last year getting back to in-person conferences and seeing you all This past November 2023, we had the pleasure of attending the International Textiles and Apparel (ITAA) conference held in Baltimore, MD In 2024, we’ve been thrilled to attend Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) hosted here in New York City in March and Costume Society of America (CSA) hosted in nearby Washington, DC in May

We had many wonderful instructors and authors visit our booths and look forward to seeing more of you as we head to ITAA in Long Beach, CA in November 2024, where we’re proud to be sponsoring a session on fitting and pattern alteration, hosted by Fairchild Books author Judith Rasband

Sincerely,
