Welcome to Bloomsbury International School Hatyai – Principal’s Welcome Dear Reader As we approach the end of another year in the history of Bloomsbury International School Hatyai, I should like to express my heartfelt appreciation for all the efforts of our administrative team, for all the work of our professionally dedicated and committed teachers and for the kind and generous support parents have provided in enabling the school to flourish and prosper as it has in the years since its inception. I would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the unstinting generosity of the school owners, without which none of the school’s achievements would have been possible. Teaching and dispensing education are not in themselves necessarily difficult tasks. The real challenge is to know how best to ensure quality international education can be made relevant and meaningful to our students and their parents and guardians so that the benefits conferred are fully visible to them as well as to us. A key element in this regard at Bloomsbury is how we address the ‘whole child’ – not just as a learner in the classroom but also as a growing citizen in the local, regional, national and global communities they will inhabit. This ‘whole child’ approach results in part from the concept of holistic
education, which enjoins not just teaching specific subjects to students and preparing them for examinations – important though these are – but also alerting them to the challenges and responsibilities of communities and the natural world and developing their nascent appreciation of values such as empathy, compassion and world peace. As UNESCO has pointed out, education has four pillars: learning about people, learning how to do things, learning to learn continuously and learning to live together. This dictum reflects how purely knowledgebased education has become more practical and life-oriented. We need to teach students how how to face and overcome setbacks, to learn coexistence, to establish a sound outlook on life and to cultivate problemsolving abilities. Our teachers thus need to bring flexibility, creativity and professionalism to bear on their work. Technology, group co-operation, lifelong learning resources and principles are crucial, and these facets underpin both our current provision and our future aspirations at Bloomsbury.

As the author Hermann Hesse said, “Whether there is any meaning to life is not my responsibility; how to arrange this life, is, however, my responsibility." This raises the question of life-oriented education. One example of this is gender education, which determines who does which chores and how these are demarcated. Another is family education, from which we derive life’s fundamental truths and how to understand our responsibilities. Yet further illustrations are learning about nature, recreation and society. All are facets of holistic education, which addresses the individual in all his or her manifold aspects, and students at Bloomsbury are regarded and treated first and foremost as individuals with unique potential, interests and needs. The upshot of this philosophy encompasses self-development, a lifebased education, a people-oriented education, a modern civic education and a lifelong learning education, and we apply best practice to all areas at all the levels and in all the subjects we teach at Bloomsbury. We thus learn how to pursue continuous self-improvement; growth provides the greatest benchmark, and we may thus evaluate the significance of life and how to enjoy active, happy existences (all with the help of a truly holistic approach). We will
be guided by the foregoing concept in Bloomsbury’s operation to ensure our students are fully prepared not just academically but for all the different manifestations of life in all its fullness and complexity during and after their studies here. In conclusion please accept my sincere thanks for your kind support for Bloomsbury International School Hatyai. With the concerted efforts of our students, teachers, support staff, graduates, friends, colleagues and community stakeholders around these common goals, I am confident our school will continue to progress from strength to strength in the coming year.

WELCOME SECONDARY
TO
Although it only seems five minutes since we began in August 2017, the end of the school year is upon us. I would like to give thanks to all members of the school community for their support and hard work in this very successful year, but most of all I would like to thank all of the students and staff of whom I am very proud. Here are some of, but not all, of our highlights; •
•
Congratulations to all of our students for their terrific academic achievements this year including the completion of termly assessments, Year 9 checkpoint examinations and Year 11 IGCSE’s. As always, we aim to involve as many family and friends in the life of the school as possible. Large numbers of visitors have enjoyed a wide range of open days, parent meetings, coffee mornings and, well planned and delivered, student led in house events.
•
•
Students have enjoyed a number of off campus school trips including an Art/Science trip to Bangkok and a Thai culture trip to visit temples. Our programme of afterschool clubs has continued to be something to be proud of and students of all ages have had a wide range of opportunities to take part in a number of creative, musical, artistic, sporting and academic clubs
Once again, I would like to thank all members of our school community for your support and dedication this year; have a great summer and see you all in August to continue the journey toward future success.
Mrs Benson.

WELCOME TO PRIMARY Bloomsbury International School Hatyai’s Primary School students have had a very busy and I hope fulfilling year. It was wonderful to see our student body grow in numbers over the summer holiday and to see them arrive at school full of confidence and enthusiasm. There has been a buzz about the Primary School which has been felt by myself, the teachers and assistants as well as the students. There has been a real community feel to the section this year and that is in no small part down to some of the fantastic achievements we have shared, events we have participated in and the spirit in which all our stakeholders have portrayed. We started this academic year by welcoming two no teachers to our team, Mr Mullin in Year 3 and Mr Clare in Year 5. Both have settled in well and are part of the fabric of the school. We have had such a wide variety of events this year including celebrating Roald Dahl’s birthday, Wai Kru, South American Cultural day and the Christmas Show, to name but a few. All of which have only stood to raise the feeling of excitement around the building. Our students have also given back to the communities they live in, donating
11,000THB they raised, during a field trip to Thammasakon School for the Blind. It has also been a year of physical additions to the Primary building. Our new Nursery Classroom opened its doors to its first class in Term 3 as well as the unveiling of the new Primary Library, which has become a favourite hangout space for many of our students. As I’m sure you will see later, our student’s achievements are not just limited to the work they do in school. Many of our students have represented Bloomsbury and indeed Thailand in competitions ranging from Mathematics to tennis and golf. Primary teachers, staff and I can look back on this year with a great sense of pride and accomplishment. However, looking forward we are tinged with sadness and excitement as we also say “good luck” to students and teachers moving on to new adventures. Thank you all for a wonderful year, I look forward to seeing you when we return in August 2018 and enjoy your summer holidays. Be safe and best wishes,
Mr Rowark

LOY KRATHONG FESTIVAL Following on from all the preparations, students and teachers gathered in the Convention Hall for the Loi Krathong celebrations hosted by our Head-Boy Max. Each year group was called up to parade their Krathong down the aisles to be shown to the staff and students.
awarded to A-wern and Jane and second place was given to Wiggly and Chokeaw.
Secondary year groups performed dances and talents to the rest of the school. We had singing, dancing and musical performances and we even saw some skateboarding tricks performed by Jamie and Ing in Year 7.
Mr Strubelt, Mr Knight and Mr Rowark were judging the competition for the best Krathong. They were really impressed by how beautiful and unique they all were. In Primary, first place went to Year 5, second place went to Year 1 and third place went to Year 4.
We were all blown away by how incredible everyone looked, and despite the rain it didn’t dampen the celebration that was enjoyed by everyone.
Kru Nid.
The awards for secondary were awarded by Mrs Benson, with first place going to Year 11, second place to Year 8 and third place to Year 9. Staff and students all looked amazing in their traditional Thai dress. There were awards for the best dressed boy and girl which were judged by Mr Knight. In Primary, 1st place was Namo and Plum. Second place went to Genting and Enlai. In Secondary, first place was 6
ALL HALLOWS’ EVE Halloween is not the same as New Year’s Day, Easter or Christmas. Those are special Christian holidays where banks and schools close. All Hallows’ Eve or Halloween is the best non-holiday day of the year. On this creepy day, we can take off our masks and show our true colours! This year we had a Halloween Disco with scary decorations in the Convention Hall. Halloween games were definitely a necessity. ‘Bobbing for apples’ and ‘Mystery Box’ are all time favourites. Can
students really grab an apple in a bucket full of water with their mouth? What disgusting items are hidden in scary
boxes where children have to put their hands into? The new game this year was to create a Mummy. Students had to wrap their favourite teachers with toilet paper in order to transform them into Egyptian Mummies. Sounds like fun? Just ask Mr. Perkins if he enjoyed it! Besides the teachers having fun, students also had a great time. They dressed up in different costumes and played games. The little ones were really scared of the crazy looking clown. There was a lot of food and drinks plus great music. The only question is, “how to make it better for next year?”
Mr Strubelt.

THAMMASAKON SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND FIELD TRIP Just before our Christmas break the whole school took part in a non-uniform day, money was generously donated, and we had a great day learning in our favourite outfits. After a restful holiday, students from years 5 to 9 took a trip down the road to Thammasakon School for the Blind. We were proud to have raised nearly 11,000 baht which we decided to donate towards learning resources and school development at Thammasakon. The day helped remind us that not everyone learns in the same way but also that our community is vibrant and diverse. We took a short bus ride and were given a warm welcome by staff and students at the school, they were keen to explain how our donation would help support their learning. Around 80
students currently study at Thammasakon, they shared some of their work with us and even taught us how to write in Braille. After that we were taken on a tour of the school grounds, staff showed us some of the machines they use to create Braille books and we were shocked at how expensive these machines are buy and run! It made us feel incredibly humble and at the same time inspired by the passion of these students to work hard even with the barriers they face. The money raised from our day of fun was put to great use and a community bond was formed between their school and ours. This school trip was particularly special for me, listening talk about their work was a real joy and a really positive message for us all to carry forward into the new term. I’m so excited for what we might achieve in times to come, well done all. The whole album of photos can be visited by clicking on this link : Thammasakon Field Trip Photo Album

CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL On the 13th December 2018, Bloomsbury International School Hatyai celebrated the festive season by presenting its annual Christmas Show, with all students performing… and some teachers too! The event opened with a speech on the meaning of Christmas by our Principal Mr. Andrew Elliot. The performances started off strong with a dance rendition of ‘Rockin Around the Christmas Tree’ by our Pre-Primary students, and the standard didn’t drop when Key Stage 1 hit the stage singing the classic ‘Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.’ There were some mindblowing vocals from Parritaya (Memi, Y5), as she started off the song ‘All I Want for Christmas’ with the rest of the Glee Club joining in. Every year group had songs and dances in the Christmas theme, even the lesser known ‘Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer’ and the ’12 days of (Thai) Christmas’.
There was a heart-warming sign language performance of ‘Silent Night’ from our year 8 & 9’s, and the hard work of Mr. Miles paid off when every year group performed their own rock band set. Amongst the Christmas songs there was some traditional and modern Thai dancing, and even some K-Pop. To the delight of the students, the female teachers and Mr. Christmas Tree himself (Mr. Mullins) danced and sang ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’, and last but not least, the Blooms Boyz ended the night with a Christmas medley, finishing with an acoustic ‘Last Christmas’. Overall in the true spirit of Christmas everyone enjoyed themselves, had fun, laughed together and ended the first term with smiles on their face. Mr Knight.

SPORTS DAY 2018 Sports day usually comes but once a year, it is Mr Rowark’s version of Christmas. But this year Sports Day was split in two, one afternoon for the Primary School and one for the Secondary School. It was held on glorious days at Bloomsbury International School Hatyai’s field. Primary School students took part in a range of activities during the afternoon to collect points for their houses. We had future Olympians competing in running races at two distances, javelin, long jump and archery. Teachers were on hand to officiate each event and to provide support and encouragement throughout the day. In Key Stage 1, ZEN blew away the competition with a 10m javelin attempt. For the girls, CHA-CHA scored a massive 40 points in all competitions to be the highest scoring girl. In Key Stage 2, PeiEng and Posh stood out amongst the boys
and Olivia(Y3) and Gamsai were the top point scorers for the girls. Secondary Sports Day continued to be a close affair, notable performances in Year 7 and 8 came from Jamie and Ing. In Years 9 and 10 Michael and Wigley shared 1st and 2nd place in every event for the boys. For the girls, by far and away the stand out performer was Olivia, who scored 99 points out of a maximum 135 points. Congratulations in Primary go to Newton, who won the Primary Sports Day and in Secondary, the winners were Nightingale. Our overall Sports Day winners for 2018 were (drum roll please) ……Nightingale!! Big congratulations to all the students who took part in what was two very successful afternoons of athleticism, speed and power. SCIENCE FAIR 2018 This year, Bloomsbury International School Hatyai hosted its inaugural Science Fair. It was a day full of scientific fun for our students, who spent the morning carrying out their investigations and creating display boards with their teachers. The display boards and equipment used were moved up to the Convention Hall where a scientific conference was set up. Students had a chance to study other classes experiments and boards and wonder at many of the incredible displays and results on show. There were a huge range of scientific experiments on show from erupting volcanoes to water rockets and a weird alien like substance called Ooblek. Heads of House’s; Mr Allinson (Einstein), Mr Windsor (Nightingale), Mr Miles (Turner) and Mr Rowark (Newton) as well as school Principal Mr Elliott, were our esteemed judges on the day. It was a wonder as to how they were able to choose a winner from all the marvellous experiments, displays and the wonderful explanations from the students themselves.
However, winners were chosen and in Primary, Year 1’s ‘Superhero Smash’ came out on top with an eye-popping display and a wonderfully creative experiment to match. In Secondary, Year 9’s experiment “It’s an ooblek” wowed our judges who were extremely impressed with their presentation skills.
I would like to congratulate all of our students on the enthusiasm and effort they have shown towards the Science Fair. There are definitely some budding scientists with bright futures amongst our students. Ms. Evans

PRIMARY LIBRARY OPENING “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go. On Monday, 30th April, The Bloomsbury Primary School Library opened its doors for the very first time. The library has over 1,200 books inside for children from Pre-Primary to 'FreeReaders'. There are box sets, information books, picture books, fiction books and much more. All the books were ordered and delivered from the United Kingdom and all the furniture was bought specifically for the library Each primary class has also been allocated 1 hour a week where the library is completely reserved for them. An additional hour is spent focusing on improving reading and learning to love reading. I have noticed students of all ages in the library at lunch times, burying their heads in books. From the beginning of next year, we hope that we will be able to start loaning books to students to take home, so students can continue to read after school! We hope that our students enjoy themselves and we've already seen countless happy faces inside!

GRIMM TALES PERFORMANCE I’m not sure if the children knew what to expect when I said we were putting on a production. I am sure they were expecting some form of talent show, something they could work on for a few lessons and then show case. However,
as
the
performance
date
approached; the convention hall turned into a performance space, we were performing in costume and they had to learn their lines by heart. They realised this was bigger than what they were expecting. One by one the performers raised their game until the performers were ready to share their work. What an amazing journey, with budding stars stepping out of nowhere and confidence blooming from all the students involved. Needless to say, the increased ability of spoken English, from the students who took part, was a joy to witness.

that one of the highlights of the 2017-18 academic
year
at
Bloomsbury
International School Hatyai was our Inter House football competition. As part of the school’s ever-expanding selection of interhouse events, students from across the Key Stages were given the opportunity to showcase their talent and prowess for ‘the beautiful game’. Despite the quality football played by all houses, this competition really did see Turner rise to the top. Turner produced dominant displays in both the Secondary and Key Stage 2 competitions to walk away with the spoils, backed up admirably by a second-place finish in the Key Stage 1 matches. A special mention must be reserved for the brilliant display of our Key Stage 1 footballers in Nightingale, who were the
Nevertheless, the persistent effort of those footballers from Einstein and Newton houses was evident throughout and, even though they were unable to pick up any silverware on this occasion, winning trophies isn’t everything in football something which, as a lifelong Newcastle United fan, Mr Allinson can vouch for. From Year 1 through to Year 10, there was enough skill on display to give national team selectors the world over some food for thought. Not only were there impressive individual performances but a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie was evident from those spectating, as well as those taking part. Congratulations to the winning teams

congratulations also go to everyone involved for making the inter-house football competition a resounding success.

THAI CULTURE FIELD TRIP - KHAO ROOP CHANG On the 18th May 2018, Bloomsbury International School Hatyai took students from Year 5 – Year 11 to visit Khao Roop Chang Temple in Sadao, which is located close to the Thailand-Malaysia border. This temple is a replica of the Great Bodh Gaya Mahabodhi Temple in India, and it is both a remarkable and beautiful piece of architecture. Inside the temple area, there is a large pagoda built entirely of marble. This temple is open to all meditators who are almost all foreigners. It is a quiet

NEW NURSERY CLASSROOM OPENING During Term 3, Bloomsbury International School Hatyai was excited to open their new Nursery classroom. The newly designed and resourced room was opened to cater for our youngest students from 2 years of age through 4 years of age. Originally, Miss Corrina had 15 children of varying ages before the split. We were lucky enough that Miss Sammie was also excited at the prospect of teaching in our Early Years department.
The new Nursery room was equipped with brand new furniture, a soft play corner, new toys including a play kitchen, Numeracy toys, cuddly toys and lots of Art resources. The children are now able to enjoy Art Wednesdays and learn Maths and Literacy in lessons with specifically targeted resources and learning objectives. Furthermore, the
smaller number of children has resulted in much more adult-student interaction.
We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the new classroom, as are our children who are often reluctant to leave at the end of school! We would also like to thank Miss Corrina, Miss Sammie, Miss Tam and Miss Tabitha for orchestrating and implementing a wonderfully smooth transition and ensuring that our children became comfortable with their new arrangements.
Next year, our Early Year’s classrooms will be opposite each other to facilitate much more interaction between Pre-Primary and Nursery. Miss Sammie.

PARENT’S ENGLISH LESSONS English is about communicating or at least trying to communicate with others. English is supposed to be FUN. Do not worry about making mistakes, just do it! Every Thursday at 3pm, Mr Strubelt comes out of hiding and gets ready for his favourite lesson. This lesson does not have students who do not want to learn and that think that reading is boring. This class does not have students who want to play on their phones, send messages on Instagram. This is the FUN class. These students are the ‘Mums’ of our regular students and they are here to learn!
In lessons we practise conversation about holidays, friends and food. The parents love to bring food into class and share their recipes with us all. We talk about different tastes and where to buy these delicious snacks. Reading and vocabulary are hot topics as these are very important for children to develop their English skills. Some classes focus only on speaking skills. The students stand in front of the class and talk about their favourite films. We even have a ‘Line’ group called English is Fun. What better way to spend a Thursday afternoon!
Mr Strubelt.

SWIMMING CLUB Students of Bloomsbury are lucky enough to have spent term 3 ECA attending swimming lessons at a nearby fantastic 50m pool equipped with various heights of diving boards. Students enjoy the short 15-minute drive there and are very sensible and quick at getting changed once we have arrived. The two professional instructors there spent sufficient amount of one to one time with each student teaching them different kicking skills, strokes and body position in the water. Whilst waiting their turn, students happily play in the water with the toys provided by the facility. If they are very lucky, students are allowed supervised time in the diving pool towards the end of the session, practising their diving skills or just happily performing their best jumps into the pool! Brian shows he is fearless when he is doing so, showing off his entertaining diving skills! Although, a few sessions have been missed due to bad weather, all students thoroughly enjoy their swimming ECA and do hope it continues next year.

NEW SCIENCE LABORATORY This year we have given the science
laboratory some major upgrades and added many new pieces of apparatus. We started by ordering new Bunsen burners with collars that match the Bunsen burner diagrams used in the IGCSE examinations. Next, heat proof mats were ordered to ensure experiments utilising fire and/or hot materials could be conducted safely. As always, safety is the number 1 priority in Science. Soon afterwards half of the laboratory was completely refurbished to include: 9 experiment tables fitted with two gas taps each, new lab stools, 3 sinks and an eye wash station. In addition to the experiment facilities we have also added a fridge-freezer, emergency exit and adjoining staircase. These are just some of the new additions and changes made to the Science lab. All of this means that the students have been able to take part in a wider variety of experiments and investigations, including: displacement reactions, conduction and radiation comparisons and heart dissections. Practical, hands-on activities are vital for allowing students to fully explore their scientific curiosities and at Bloomsbury we fully believe in showing the students first-hand what Science has to offer. The future is looking bright for Science at Bloomsbury International School as many plans for further improvements are in place.
Mr Gill.

Welcome to Nursery ALBUMS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Ms. Sammie , Richa, Gimta, Namo, Jern-Jern, Dean, Ms. Tam (T.A.) Front Row: Venus, Neptune, Cherlyn & Jay-Jay Even though the Nursery class has only been a term old, does not mean that it has been lacking in excitement, happiness and adventure that would last an entire academic year. On the 14th May, our 9 youngest members of the school, joined Ms Sammie and Ms Tam in the brand new Nursery classroom. We enjoyed studying the topic of Space and loved Art, singing dancing and swimming on Fridays. Each one of the students brought something unique to the dynamics in the classroom. Namo and Cherlyn were our “double act” and Head Girls, always setting an example for fellow students and teaching everyone the dance routines to our favourite songs. Gimta, was the tidiest in the classroom and was always ready for a lesson, story or dance. Dean was the newest addition to our class but quickly became the classrooms big brother, looking out for our younger classmates. Jay Jay the classroom’s “baby shark”, constantly smiling and being confident at everything new she tried. Venus and Neptune, the twins, also known as “The Planets” made us laugh at all the funny things they used to do together. Jern Jern the classroom investigator was always eager to know what we were going to be learning about that day and reminding us that the Sun is “very hot”. Richa was our most enthusiastic student, always coming to school with the best hair accessories and never failing to be the first at everything, whether it was an activity, lunch or finishing her work. It has been an absolute pleasure to teach and get to know these 9 little people. As my first ever class, each one of them will always have a special place in my memory. I wish each one of them all the success for the future and to remember to always strive to be the best they can be.

Pre-Primary have had an amazing and fun –filled year engaging in lots of exciting and enjoyable activities. Pre-Primary have been challenging themselves with new mathematical concepts, learning fun topics as well as using their art skills to create wonderful imaginative drawings and paintings. During the year we also had an increase of new friends joining our class. We began the year with our first topic ‘Marvellous Me’, this was an excellent opportunity for old and new students to get to know each other and to find out all about our families, friends, culture and home environment. As we moved through the year we had more exciting theme topics to learn about ‘Under the Sea’, ‘Rumble in the jungle’ ‘Beside the seaside’, however, our favourite theme for this year was ‘Outer space’, the children had the opportunity to learn about the different planets in our solar system, what is the work of astronauts in space, as well as discussing how and what we need to do to keep our planet Earth clean. This year we looked at new mathematical concepts such as, learning size order, number and quantities, as well as, the more challenging concept of addition and subtraction, which the children enjoyed and mastered very rapidly. At the end of this year we will be saying goodbye to children that will be transitioning to Year 1, Pethrung, Phum and Namo have proven to be outstanding children in their academic learning, I’m sure it will be a smooth transition and I wish them all good luck in their future learning.

There have been a number of exciting events within Bloomsbury International School HatYai, including sports day, The Christmas Show and a Science Day. Year 1 actively took part in all of these events and enjoyed dressing up as reindeers to sing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer during the Christmas production and investigating the effects of air resistance on materials, by creating a superhero parachute that could protect an egg from cracking when dropped from a high place. In fact, Year 1 won the Science Fair presentation for having the most imaginative experiment. The Year 1 class assembly was a huge hit with the entire school when they performed the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and proudly shared their work, as well as singing a song counting in 2’s to 100. The older children were very impressed with how they projected their voices and performed with confidence in English. This year, Year 1 have accepted a number of new students and adults in their classrooms. The children have been extremely welcoming and adaptable, even helping to encourage the children who came in with little English, to improve and use the language in all situations. Miss Baxter and Miss Williams are very proud of all the children in Year 1 and how much they have matured and developed socially and academically over the year. Well done! Some of the children have said: “ I have had so much fun in Year 1. My teacher has helped me to learn lots.”

Welcome to Year 2 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Ms. Reid (Teacher), Gear, Zen, Potter, Miss Nancy (T.A.) Front Row: Chacha, Petch, Tristan & Angela Year 2 have had an exciting and busy year! From improving their mathematical knowledge, their presentation and speaking skills in English, learning about the Great Fire of London, organising and conducting their own weather report and what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet and notable athletes in Core Curriculum. Year 2 enjoyed planning and carrying out their own Science experiment of ‘upside down water’ for the Science Fair in March, dressing up as their favourite characters for World Book Day and enjoying the Thai festival of Songkhran (and soaking the teachers!) Zen and ChaCha showed off their teamwork and presenting skills presenting their own weather report of Thailand. Potter did a great job of retelling whole story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ to the rest of class, whilst Angela very much enjoyed being the ‘Teacher’ in Maths and coming to the board to explain her calculations. Dew and Petch shared their knowledge about what they had learnt about the athlete, Usain Bolt to the rest of the class in a mini-presentation. Gear and Tristan further improved at working as part of a team in PE and showing off their yoga skills. Overall it has been an enjoyable end to Year 2 and I wish them all best of luck for the future! From Left-Right: Back Row: Mr Mullin (Teacher), Ploysai, First, Hugo, Olivia & Porshce Front Row: Lucy, U-Yu, Plum, Tonkla & Te What a year! “Work hard, play hard.” If you are not sure what this means ask any Year 3 student because this year, they have lived it! We have laughed lots and learnt lots too, good ingredients, I feel, for any classroom. I am proud of the learning of every child in Year 3, some children have made two years progress in their reading ability, while others are working at a Year 6 level in maths. Most importantly every child has made good progress in all areas; being able to do things now that they couldn’t do before. We have had lots of new students join us this year; each child has added an extra special quality to our class. So much so, that it seems impossible to think of the class without them ever being a part of it. Right you crazy bunch of Munchkins, off to Year 4 with you, I’m looking forward to seeing how much more you grow next year. Mr M.

Welcome to Year 4 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Puh,Toto, Fannie, Nicky, Pei-Eng Front Row: Namo, Tanton, Genting, Torfun Mimi & Mr Macleod We have come to the end of another exciting year at Bloomsbury. The students have sailed down the River Nile into Ancient Egypt, written hieroglyphics, and discovered how, and why, people were mummified; they have written a war diary by putting themselves in the shoes of a World War Two evacuee fleeing the relentless bombing of London by the Nazis. Then, they were whisked to the present to learn about the evolution of technology and debated over which was the most significant development. All of which combined to help them better understand how our lives are shaped by the past. They took part in various fun and stimulating, experiments which included melting chocolate to investigate different states of matter. They have also considered, and classified, living things around them while taking part in an invertebrate hunt at school. The students also considered what is going on inside themselves when they eat by looking at what happens to food as it travels through the digestive system. Year 4 have also created their own settlement based on what people need to survive and learned how to navigate the globe using coordinates. This year, we have really started to enjoy reading through some fabulous books like ‘The Promise’ and ‘Love that Dog’. If you look closely, the common themes of global citizenship and intercultural understanding have run through this year’s learning and school events. As these students continue their learning and deepen their understanding in Year 5, it is my hope that they will continue to work hard and make a positive mark on the world they live in. Good luck in Year 5, Mr Macleod You and 689 people liked this. You and 689 people liked this.

Welcome to Year 5 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Mr. Clare (Teacher), Ice, Owen, Chowon Middle Row: Anna, Chichi, Brian, Iman, Posh Front Row: Ic, Jayler, Memi, Gamsai, Emma, Nisha, Micky Looking back on the past academic year I can’t quite believe how quickly time has flown. I started out in August as a new teacher at Bloomsbury and was thrilled to find a class with many new and familiar faces to me. This year has been punctuated with hard work, laughter, discovery and joy. We have grown and developed in so many ways over the year. There have been times when we found work tough, had lightbulb moments, but through all of it we have found commonalities in our differences. As we entered into the start of the year we took a mental trip to the battlegrounds of Western Europe, exploring the dangerous lives of evacuees. Following that in history, we looked at the lives of ancient civilisations learning about cultural customs of the Mayans and Early Islamic Empire. In Geography we took journeys deep underground into molten lava and examined how our planet moves and changes every day. In English classes we have developed a passion for reading, we were gripped by Clockwork, mystified by Cosmic and thrilled with Floodland. We wrote poetry, stories that left our readers hungry for more, created suspense, gave hard facts and moulded language to persuade. This year has been a prime example of the wonders that come from sharing, as we say in year 5, sharing is caring! As the year has progressed and we have challenged our opinions on social and environmental issues I am left with a class that has outgrown the nest and is ready to fly. . Well done Year 5!. You and 689 people liked this.

Welcome to Year 6 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Munta, Japan, Jessica, Sprite, Pla & Mr. Rowark Front Row: Topgun, Pam, Captain, Sugata, Sea, Safe & Thing
Year 6, where do you begin to describe the journey? When I first arrived at Bloomsbury, I met a Year 4 class 3 years ago, who were excited by just about everything. The 4 students that I had, had a thirst for information. Slowly but surely our little class grew and grew, today it has 12 students. It's been a challenging year for some, with the prospect of going to "Big School" next year, a lot of enforced growing up has happened. However, I am under no illusion as to their readiness for secondary school, whether the teachers can handle them is another thing! Jess - Stop thinking you can't, you clearly can. Pla - Think, then write! Thing Keep going, you know the answer! Captain - Stay in your seat and pay attention. Sea - Focus and listen. Sugata - Question it all! Japan - Keep working hard. Safe Pay attention to your teachers, please? Pam - Read, read and read some more! Sprite Have fun and keep testing your teachers! Manta and Topgun - Keep working hard with Mr Andrew Most of all Year 6, you will be missed, but have fun next year and you know where I will be! You and 689 people liked this.

Welcome to Year 7 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Mr. Miles, Pete, Micky, Jamie, Boat & Proud Front Row: Ihsan, Marsya, Nawin, Ing, Film & Nazrin
The photo above shows a family of students that has doubled over the space of the last academic year. At the start of Year 7, I brought up 6 students with me from Primary to begin their journey through Secondary. Now the class is more vibrant and diverse than ever, we have had additions from Malaysia and Poland and new friends have been made. I’m sure they’re very excited to start Year 8 in August. Year 7 is a difficult transition period for many students who have new teachers and new routines to learn, the students have embraced this and I wish them all the best in future. Ing - This year is my second year at this school we have new friends from Malaysia and Poland. That makes our class twice the size since the start of the year! This year, students in our class have been improving themselves because of the big change from primary to secondary. This year has been good because we’ve been able to spend time with new students and old so that has made this year amazing.

Welcome to Year 8 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Bell, Bam, Jasmine, Mr. Allinson, Tyler, Poy Front Row: Mono, A-wern, Chokeaw, Nada & Arianna This year has been a roller coaster of experiences for us. We’ve studied different topics and gained understandings which we can carry with us for the rest of our lives. We have learnt how to collect data in Maths; calculating the mean, median, mode and range. We also have studied Gothic literature and tension building techniques in English; expanding our understanding of pathetic fallacy, religious subversion and supernatural elements. In Art, we’ve learnt more about stop motion animation; particularly how to make our videos look as smooth and realistic as possible. We have covered so many topics in Science that are brains are almost exploding but we now know about magnets, respiration in the human body and the refraction of light when shone through a prism. Last but not least, we have learnt about the renaissance and the industrial revolution in Humanities; important parts of History that have helped us develop our understanding of the world. This year has gone past so fast that school still feels like it’s in Term 1 but we’ve enjoyed being in school and part of Mr Allinson’s Year 8 class. Having said all of this, we all think that the best part of our year this year has been the school trips. We went to the school for blind children in Hat Yai, travelled through some ancient smuggling tunnels in Songkhla province and we also visited a traditional Buddhist temple. These trips were for both educational and entertainment purposes, but they also allowed us to help out in the local community – the best combination ever! Thank you for a great year! Welcome to Year 9 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Wigly, Gun, Olivia, Tartar Front Row: Jane, D'Nee, Pang & Ms. Peverall Year 9 would like to say one big thank you to all the teachers and students of Bloomsbury for making this year so much fun. We have increased our confidence by delivering an assembly on family day. We spent form times preparing for our assembly, making the power-point and practising our lines. We are proud that we helped each other, and managed to deliver a great assembly to the whole school! We have been on many school trips, including a trip to the blind school and more recently the Thai culture trip. We have had a lot of fun visiting different places together, including a little bit of karaoke on the coach journey there! Overall the thing that we enjoyed the most was the Science Fair. Our project was making and experimenting with Oobleck, a half liquid half solid substance. We worked as a team to make this funky stuff and delivered our experiment to teachers and family members. We were very proud to not only win 1st place in Secondary but also most creative project! Lastly, we would like to congratulate our class member, D-nee, on becoming Head Girl of Bloomsbury International School Hatyai! We are very happy and proud of all of the wonderful things we have done this year and would like to thank every teacher who believed in us! Bring on next year!!! You and 689 people liked this.

Welcome to Year 10 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Bea, KaowFang, Michael, Aaron, Michelle Front Row: Mr. Gill, Rina, Pure, Helena Year 10 have had a fantastic academic year and have all worked hard to learn and grow as individuals. Not to mention a good start in their IGCSE preparation. The year has been filled with team building exercises and opportunities for each student to lead and develop their communication skills, not only in English but a multitude of interpersonal communication methods. They have acted as a source of inspiration for the younger students in Bloomsbury International School. Many of the year 10 students have roles such as prefect or head boy. Furthermore, there have been many school assemblies in which year 10 students have won the student of the month award. This shows the hard work and dedication of the students during this academic year. The students in year 10 had a variety of extra-curricular activities to choose from and they took this opportunity to try many of the different activities throughout the year. They chose to take part in activities including: football, photoshop, archery, photography, dodgeball, table tennis and debate club. This variety shows how each student in year 10 is unique and chooses to express themselves in through their interests and hobbies. These activities were also a great way of developing friendships and learning how to excel at tasks in groups. All form groups in Bloomsbury are given the task of conducting assemblies for the rest of the school. Captains (leaders) were assigned to each assembly topic and were in charge of developing visual aids and delegating tasks to other class members. The first assembly was based on healthy eating, the year 10 class enjoyed the dramatics involved with presenting to an audience. The second assembly was based on World No Tobacco Day in which the serious health effects of smoking and the contents of cigarettes were covered. Each year 10 student has shown that they have the confidence to speak in front of an audience. This is a vital life skill that will help them succeed in a variety of occupations later in life. Other school events the year 10 form group have taken part include the: Art and Science field trip,Culture field trip, spelling competition, badminton competition, Mathematics challenge, sports day, multicultural day and Science day. From popping hydrogen gas to learning Spanish, the year 10 class truly has had an activity packed, fun-filled year.

Welcome to Year 11 SNAPSHOTS:
From Left-Right: Back Row: Max, Mr. Knight (Teacher), Paulina Front Row: Jason Another year past at Bloomsbury and another graduating year 11 class, albeit a smaller number than we started with. Sadly we lost some fantastic students throughout the year, but year 11 did gain the wonderful Paulina, who has settled in and made a positive impact on all students. Paulina is a bright and happy student, whose popularity was clearly shown when she received the most Valentines’ roses; let’s hope Madam Yvette found her mystery man. Speaking of Max, our former Head Boy has sailed through the year, continuing his tremendous improvement, most notably in Art. Max also showed his thespian talents as Hansel, in the Grimm Tales drama performance. Our former Head Girl Amisha, who rivaled Paulina for the most Valentines’ roses, wowed the whole school community with her outstanding artistic talent, although according to other reports, her talents don’t just lie in art, but every other subject she is involved in. Last but by no means least the school will dearly miss Jason, one of the funniest and kindest students to come to Bloomsbury. Jason has shown a very soft side while helping in Pre Primary, singing Frozen and dancing with our little ones. Over the year year 11 has worked incredibly hard in their academics, completing their IGCSE’s and I have no doubt that their hard work will pay off when they get their results in August. Year 11 also raised over 10000 Baht for a local animal charity from selling roses on Valentines’ Day. I will miss every one of these students as I leave Bloomsbury myself, taking wonderful memories of the most fantastic students.! You and 689 people liked this.
