Dear Friends, Welcome to our catalogue of joy and delight for July–December 2021. As I write this, we are more aware than ever of the important role books and reading have to play in supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing. We are so proud of the work our authors and illustrators do to spread hope, empathy and imagination through the magic of words and pictures. You’ll find so much to look forward to within these pages, so I am just going to draw your attention to three books that seem particularly apt right now. Tom Percival’s new picture book Tilda

Tries Again is a

gorgeous story with a powerful message about resilience at its heart – Tom’s Big Bright Feelings series has seen sales surge as parents, teachers and children discover his pitch-perfect, empathy-packed stories.

Tomorrow Is Beautiful is a dazzlingly good poetry anthology selected by the award-bedecked Sarah Crossan – a fresh, hopeful and inspiring collection for young adult readers. And finally, Grown by Melissa Cummings-Quarry and Natalie A. Carter is a vital, life-affirming reallife read for Black girls everywhere. An ode to Black girlhood, the debut book from the founders of the Black Girls’ Book Club will empower a generation to chase their dreams and become unstoppable. Here’s to the next generation – and the books that will make them readers for life!

When twelve-year-old Alex receives an old tin robot in the post, the note from his grandfather simply reads: ‘This one is special’. Just as things are getting out of hand, Alex’s grandfather arrives, whisking him away from his otherwise humdrum life and into a world of strange, macabre magic. From Paris to Prague, they flee across snowy Europe in a quest to unravel the riddle of the little robot, and outwit relentless assassins of the human and mechanical kind. How does Alex’s grandfather know them? And can Alex safely harness the robot’s power, or will it fall into the wrong, wicked hands?" Exiled to a far-flung island by the whims of the gods, Medusa has little company except the snakes that adorn her head instead of hair. But when a charmed, beautiful boy called Perseus arrives on the island, her lonely existence is disrupted with the force of a supernova, unleashing desire, love, betrayal … and destiny itself. This lyrical, feminist retelling of Greek myth illuminates the girl behind the legend. Perfect for fans of Madeline Miller and Louise O’Neill, it brings alive Medusa for a new generation. Jessie Burton is the author of three internationally bestselling novels for adults: The Miniaturist, The Muse and The Confession. Jessie’s first novel for children, The Restless Girls, was published by Bloomsbury in 2018.
