From bestselling author Sibéal Pounder, this tale of friendship and mince-pie feasts is the perfect book to curl up with this winter. Funny, feminist and with a huge heart, it’s a a gloriously Christmassy tale that will delight even the biggest Grinch.
When twelve-year-old Alex receives an old tin robot in the post, the note from his grandfather simply reads: ‘This one is special’. But as strange events start occurring around him, it doesn’t take Alex long to suspect that the small toy is more than special; it might also be deadly. Just as things are getting out of hand, Alex’s grandfather arrives, whisking him away from his otherwise humdrum life and into a world of strange, macabre magic. From Paris to Prague, they flee across snowy Europe in a quest to unravel the riddle of the little robot, and outwit relentless assassins of the human and mechanical kind. How does Alex’s grandfather know them? And can Alex safely harness the robot’s power, or will it fall into the wrong, wicked hands?" Damien Love lives in Glasgow, Scotland, where, even as you read these words, it is raining. He is the author of several books on film and filmmakers, and is the TV critic for Scotland’s broadsheet, The Sunday Herald. Exiled to a far-flung island by the whims of the gods, Medusa has little company except the snakes that adorn her head instead of hair. But when a charmed, beautiful boy called Perseus arrives on the island, her lonely existence is disrupted with the force of a supernova, unleashing desire, love, betrayal … and destiny itself. This lyrical, feminist retelling of Greek myth illuminates the girl behind the legend. Perfect for fans of Madeline Miller and Louise O’Neill, it brings alive Medusa for a new generation. Jessie Burton is the author of three internationally bestselling novels for adults: The Miniaturist, The Muse and The Confession. Jessie’s first novel for children, The Restless Girls, was published by Bloomsbury in 2018.
