A HAPPY SCHOOL Pupils at LGS Stoneygate are happy. A bold statement, but one that I believe is true. As parents we have a limited time to shape our children’s lives and these formative years are crucial; choosing the right school is pivotal. I believe in the adage ‘a happy child is a learning child’, both go hand in hand at LGS Stoneygate. LGS Stoneygate pupils want to come to school; excitement and engagement are in abundance here. This is largely due to the strong family ethos, the non-selective intake and a fully inclusive education. I believe that pupils are at their most fulfilled when challenged, whether that’s inside or outside the classroom. Pupils are expected to work hard; we see the satisfaction and sense of achievement that it brings. Evidence has shown that contented children are more likely to turn into successful, accomplished adults too. We recognise the importance of a holistic approach to education and well-being, with pastoral care as important as academic rigour. Whether your child is four or fourteen, each pupil has a personal tutor - one who takes an interest - a real interest - in every child’s triumphs, worries and achievements. Success can be stifled by a fear of failure; LGS Stoneygate encourages pupils to push the envelope of their experience. It is not possible to share everything through the pages of a website or a prospectus, nor will you be able to appreciate the vibrancy and warmth of our school community. Ultimately, it is our children who breathe life into LGS Stoneygate. If you would like to know more about our school, then please do come and see us. You are assured the warmest of welcomes.

SPACE TO GROW When you walk around our school grounds, it is hard to imagine a better place for children to learn. LGS Stoneygate is set in 45 acres of glorious countryside; a place where pupils are encouraged to play in our magical forest or even enjoy a game of lawn tennis at lunchtime. Not only do pupils have the space to enjoy outdoor activities, they also have the space to flourish as children. Small class sizes (from Reception up to Year 11) enable close attention to suit the needs of all pupils. There is space to learn, to play, to explore, to sing, to act, to build… to grow. LGS Stoneygate is a school in the traditional mould yet with its focus on the future. Our beautiful older buildings stand alongside modern science amd food labs, IT and sports facilities. We value both books and technology; we respect the unique culture of Stoneygate, moulded since its foundation 165 years ago, yet seek to prepare our pupils for the modern world. From EYFS to Key Stage 4, our pupils are inspired by their surroundings, staff and fellow pupils. Our pupils are both challenged and supported. In an age where adolescents’ mental health and wellbeing are at the fore, our new KS4 curriculum offers both traditional academic pathways and practical, modern options. Our core values - the 4 Cs (Caring, Creative, Curious and Committed) - are an integral aspect of life at LGS Stoneygate.

WE ARE CARING As a school community we care about ourselves, each other, the local and global environment. Showing kindness helps cultivate trust, crucial for numerous relationships within our school. For us, being caring is an interpersonal skill – it requires courage and strength. Pupils are taught to respect each other and their surroundings.

WE ARE CREATIVE Pupils and staff are encouraged to be creative in every subject area and in all that they do. Creativity is certainly not limited to the ‘Arts’. In the 21st century, where communication is vital, we encourage individuality and expression in all subjects. We want our pupils to be creative on the page, in debates, in Food Tech, on the stage, in assemblies. Throughout the academic year we have stunning art displays, numerous musical performances and stage plays. Every pupil will be involved in the annual Arts Festival. We also believe that learning takes place ‘beyond the classroom’- this conviction lies behind the emphasis we place on trips and outings to galleries, theatres, parks and museums. Our grounds support a thriving Forest School which all children from Reception to Year 6 experience as a unit within their PSHE curriculum. We want, expect and encourage LGSS pupils to be bold, to be adventurous, to be creative…

WE ARE CURIOUS In an age where the apparent answer is a mere ‘click away’, we believe it is important that children think for themselves. Children should explore, experiment, question and challenge theories. From Reception to Year 11 we want to develop curiosity. By asking the right questions, pupils will develop a deeper understanding of the challenges posed in everyday classroom practice and how these relate to their wider lives. With specialist teachers from Reception, investigation and curiosity form an integral part of pupils’ learning.

WE ARE COMMITTED Staff and pupils are expected to show commitment and perseverance at LGS Stoneygate. We should always be ambitious and strive for the very best in all that we do. This is not some glib phrase; it is a genuine belief held at LGSS. From an early age, we encourage pupils to set high expectations for themselves; as a school we support them wherever necessary. We expect pupils to show commitment and perseverance in all aspects of school life- from learning spellings and times tables, to creating and developing their own business in Senior School.

THE PRE-PREP Our learning journey begins in the Pre-Prep department. Reception and Year 1 pupils are based in School House (with their own specially designed rooms and gardens). Our Pre-Prep is set in glorious woodland and is equipped with excellent facilities. This wonderful location, coupled with inspirational teaching and a child-centred approach, creates the ideal environment for young children to flourish. Children work in small class sizes under the care and guidance of highly skilled and experienced teachers, allowing for growth and attentiveness. Our exciting curriculum gives the opportunity to explore cross-curricular themes linked to History, Geography, Science, Art and ICT. It is in the PrePrep years that our pupils are stretched in Maths and English, but they also enjoy specialist teaching linked to Forest School, Music, French and PE/swimming.

THE PREP SCHOOL Pupils in Prep (Years 3-6) are taught in both the Manor House and the Senior School. In this section of the school, pupils begin with their own class teacher (in Years 3 & 4) and are gradually introduced to more subject specialism so that, when they reach Year 5, they have subject specialist teachers for every lesson and are taught in subject rooms rather than their form room. This allows pupils to be taught to the highest levels and to achieve excellent standards. It also fosters an increasing development of independence but still with an umbrella of support. Pupils in the Prep School are also placed in a House (‘the League system’ - the oldest in the county!) - with pupils encouraged to do well in all areas of school life for their League.

THE SENIOR SCHOOL In the Senior School (Years 7- 11) we offer a diverse and dynamic curriculum to enable all pupils to thrive. We give pupils the opportunity to try as many subjects as possible before making their GCSE choices. Academic rigour and flexibility go hand in hand at LGSS, with pupils able to opt for both traditional GCSE routes alongside BTEC options - perfect for skills needed in the 21st century. In an ever-changing world, we prepare our pupils through leadership and entrepreneurial programmes to develop confident, articulate young men and women.

LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM At LGSS we take great pride in our co-curricular programme. Whether it is Yoga with Year 1, German with Year 3 or the Ecological Club in Year 8, our cocurricular programme is both ambitious and varied, as we believe this opens up a world of experiences to enrich pupils’ learning. Trips and visiting speakers enhance learning; we offer opportunities for our pupils to travel overseas, whether with the MFL department or performing with the Senior School choir. These are unforgettable experiences. Whether pupils are leading a trip up Snowdon, performing Shakespeare or creating a business venture- pupils at LGS Stoneygate learn the importance of collaboration, commitment, curiosity, leadership, risk-taking whilst also developing a true sense of community. All necessary skills for the 21st century…
