10400 HOLLIDAY FARMS BLVD“Allen and I immediately noticed that both teams flourished over the years by having the same core philosophy, because our goal is to make each of our clients NUMBER 1. And we represent Buyers and Sellers for all price points.” Dick Richwine
“Over the years, Dick and I have been through multiple market adjustments, and we each continued to concentrate on the things that matter most. We added more value for buyers and sellers by creating a five-star experience for them before, during, and after the sale, invested in cutting-edge marketing to help listings sell faster and for more money, and most importantly, by
, not the commission.”
Every town has its heroes but two in Noblesville deserve special mention. Dutch Barrett and Kevin Popp established a painting business here in 2005 while also working as firemen. They not only make structures look better, they save them from extinction. How did such disparate vocations come to be?
It started in Surrey, British Columbia for Kevin, who grew up playing hockey. He was good enough for the pros to notice and eventually landed with the Indianapolis Ice from 2001-03. Dutch also played hockey as a youngster in Minnesota and later in college, which led to a coaching career in Indy. From this mutual interest two successful ventures were born.
“I grew up painting homes in the summer,” Dutch said (he’s the talkative one). “It provided a nice income and the finished project gave me a lot of satisfaction. My wife’s family moved from Texas to Indiana so that’s where we’ve all chosen to settle. As I looked at ways to earn a living, it was natural to focus on my earlier experience in painting.”
How did firefighting figure into the formula? After Kevin finished his hockey career, he too turned to a childhood interest. “I didn’t think I’d be happy sitting at a desk; I’m used to activity. Firemen have to stay fit because they protect life and property as well as handle medical emergencies in homes and on the streets. Seemed like a good way to work and serve the community.”
Kevin became a firefighter in Wayne Township and encouraged his hockey buddy to become one too. Dutch did just that but also wanted a partner to start a painting company. Voila! DutchPopp Painting, LLC was formed in 2005 by two former hockey players who also put out fires.
That company has become quite a success. DutchPopp began by painting apartment complexes and plowing money back into the business in order to purchase all the equipment necessary for day to day operations. No salaries for them initially but they were off and running.
“Our philosophy,” according to Dutch,” has always been to listen to our clients. If we hear what they say and communicate carefully, so many issues can be avoided. We have project managers and a team of eight or nine painters and that ability to communicate is an important consideration when they’re hired.” In addition DutchPopp offers free estimates and takes no deposit until the project is completed to insure customer satisfaction. A three year warranty guarantees they stand behind their work.
But if you’re someone who struggles with paint chips and what beige/white/blue shade to pick, is there anyone who can help?
“Yes,” and Dutch actually sounds reassuring, “we have a color consultant who for $100 who will come out to help make those decisions.”
“Color favorites have waxed and waned over the years,” he continues, “but gray has become a staple that works well with lots of other shades. Some of the newer selections include exotic browns, tawny violets and deep navy. These are especially popular in dining rooms, kitchens and offices.”
Sherwin Williams is the paint of choice for the company. Both Kevin and Dutch feel it is an excellent quality product with lots of stores that offer easy access wherever the job might take them. If, on the other hand, a client wants a different brand, DutchPopp is more than willing to accommodate. “We have accounts with all the paint stores and can purchase whatever the client prefers,” Kevin says and adds that they pass along their painter’s discount.
Looking for a homegrown but sophisticated company to update your interior or exterior? DutchPopp Painting has the experience, ability and work ethic to transform your house into the home you’ve dreamed of.
Whichever hat you’re wearing, thank you Dutch and Kevin for your service.

If this sounds like what you haven’t been able to find, we should talk further.

Once the plan is created, Nick is on-site daily making sure the pieces come together in a masterful way. As co-owner of the company, Nick is your personal construction manager and his communication skills greatly enhance the process. Basically, Woodstock is custom design and fine homebuilding — up close and personal.

10 Budget-Friendly Ideas to Boost Curb Appeal
Your home’s first big impression is its curb appeal, so if your place needs some sprucing up, you may wonder how you can make some updates without breaking the bank. These ten ideas are easy on budgets, but they can also significantly impact your home’s exterior image.
1. Paint your front door. As long as your front door is in good condition, there’s no need to replace it. A fresh coat of paint can instantly update your home’s facade. Go bold or stick with a classic hue – it’s up to you.
2. Dress up the windows. Add character and charm by enhancing your front windows. Consider adding wooden shutters, window box planters, or both. Also, look at the trim around the windows. If it’s chipped and peeling, adding a fresh coat of paint doesn’t just look nice; it can also protect your windows from damage.
3. Clean up flower beds. An unkempt flower bed can drag down an otherwise stunning home. Keep beds tidy and vegetation trimmed, even during the off-season. Watch for weeds and replenish mulch or rock ground cover to keep the beds healthy and inviting.
4. Install new lighting. Replacing outdated light fixtures can give your exterior an instant upgrade. There’s no right or wrong style; choose a color and look that matches the rest of your design.
5. Replace worn welcome mats. A cheerful mat at your front door can be an inviting sight for visitors, but those mats inevitably wear with time, and what was once bright and charming becomes dingy and dull. A new doormat can help bring back that cheery entry you once cherished.
6. Pressure wash the drive and walk. Over time, driveways and sidewalks collect an incredible amount of grime. Pressure washing eliminates the filth, and the clean surfaces add to your home’s visual appeal.
7. Add new vegetation. Landscaping is a relatively inexpensive way to introduce more personality to a yard. Aim for a mix of pretty and practical, such as some low-flowering bushes and some trees or bushes that offer privacy and shade.
8. Keep up with essential maintenance. When your home is in poor repair, it shows. Pay attention to bent or rusting gutters, imperfections in the roof, and other maintenance matters that aren’t just aesthetic; left unrepaired, they can also result in significant damage.
9. Pay attention to details. Functional items like the mailbox might not seem like a design element, but these small details can be distracting if they’re not in good condition. Update or replace as needed to keep your aesthetic in sync.
10. Add seasonal decor. There’s no need to go all out for every occasion, but some timely decorations that celebrate the holiday or season can make your entry fun and festive. Coordinate wreaths, planters, signs, and other accent pieces for a cohesive look that says, “Come on in.”
