CELEBRATING 5 YEARS OF BLUE MOUNTAINS CULTURAL CENTRE In 2017 the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a suite of major exhibitions, public programs, artisan markets and innovative partnerships between the arts, environment and heritage.

Featuring works from the John Kaldor Family Collection at the Art Gallery of New South Wales 21 January - 19 March 2017 Curated by Anthony Bond OAM, Landmarks celebrates works of art that are inextricably linked with landscape from some of the world’s most significant and influential artists of the 21st century. Showcasing outstanding works from the John Kaldor Family and Art Gallery of New South Wales collections, the exhibition features Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Simryn Gill, Andy Goldsworthy, Andreas Gursky, Richard Long, Perejaume, Imants Tillers and a new commission by internationally renowned Blue Mountains artists Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro. Nicole Welch Wildēornes Land
1 April – 7 May 2017 Nicole Welch’s Wildēornes Land is an ambitious, monumental cinematic exhibition combining installation, photography and moving image that investigates the Blue Mountains wilderness from a historical, cultural and ecological viewpoint. The exhibition draws upon archival records that illuminate early European’s romantic notions of the Australian wilderness juxtaposed with contemporary ideas and concerns that reflect the inherent loss and uncertainty we now face for our natural environment. The National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017 1 July - 13 August 2017 Blue Mountains City Art Gallery is the first venue in The National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017 tour. The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects. Tracey Moffatt
Something More, Laudanum, Scarred for Life, Some Lads & Under the Sign of Scorpio 8 July - 13 August 2017 Tracey Moffatt is one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists and is the first Aboriginal artist to present a solo exhibition at the prestigious Venice Biennale. Moffatt is highly regarded internationally for her experimentation in film, photography and video. This exhibition presents a selection of works from the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) collection and features works from some of Moffatt’s most iconic series of photographs Something More, Laudanum, Scarred for Life, Some Lads and Under the Sign of Scorpio. David Hockney Words and Pictures
14 October - 3 December 2017 Drawn from the British Council Collection, the exhibition presents four major suites of artists’ prints produced by David Hockney from 1961–1977. United by their reference to historical works of literature and art, these prints were produced during the first two decades of Hockney’s career when he established his international reputation as a Pop artist. Blue Mountains City Art Gallery present this major international exhibition in partnership with Tweed Regional Gallery as part of its fifth anniversary celebrations. Cloth Seeds to Bloom 9 December 2017 - 21 January 2018 Cloth: Seeds to Bloom traces 20 years of one of Australia's most influential textile designers and local Blue Mountains resident Julie Paterson. Drawing inspiration from the Australian bush, Paterson's stunning fabrics are a riot of colour, floral forms and patterns. Achieving commercial success through design excellence, her designs are highly prized and sought after, with short batch productions quickly snapped up by avid collectors, interior decorators, and commercial clients. For its fifth anniversary Blue Mountains City Art Gallery has partnered with Art Gallery of New South Wales to deliver a highlight exhibition for the 2017 artistic program. Curated by Anthony Bond OAM, Landmarks celebrates works of art that are inextricably linked with landscape from some of the world’s most significant and influential artists of the 21st century. Showcasing outstanding works from the John Kaldor Family and Art Gallery of New South Wales collections, the exhibition features Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Simryn Gill, Andy Goldsworthy, Andreas Gursky, Richard Long, Perejaume, Imants Tillers and a new commission by internationally renowned Blue Mountains artists Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro. The exhibition explores the shifting perception of landscape that saw artists’ work in the late 20th and early 21st century move from that of framing an image to a more immersive experience, where deeper observations and ideas about relationship with the land were investigated – thus marking the emergence of land art. Landmarks will be on exhibition at Blue Mountains City Art Gallery from 21 January – 19 March 2017 and tour to Tamworth Regional Gallery and Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) throughout 2017. David Hockney Words and Pictures
On exhibition at Blue Mountains City Art Gallery 14 October – 3 December 2017
Drawn from the British Council Collection, the exhibition presents four major suites of artists’ prints produced by David Hockney from 1961–1977. United by their reference to historical works of literature and art, these prints were produced during the first two decades of Hockney’s career when he established his international reputation as a Pop artist. Blue Mountains City Art Gallery is proud to present this major international exhibition in partnership with Tweed Regional Gallery. The exhibition will premiere at Tweed before travelling on to Katoomba in October 2017. Printmaking School Holiday Program with artist Freedom Wilson Create and print a collagraph plate using Natural Found Objects Wednesday 25th Jan 10:00am -2:00pm Suitable for 6 – 12 years. Unleash your creative side this school holiday and learn the art of printmaking by local artist Freedom Wilson. Draw from your own imagination as you arrange natural found objects such as leaves, grasses, flowers, petals and feathers to create an intaglio print from a collagraph plate. Inspiration will be taken from the work of Andy Goldsworthy which will be on display as part of the exhibition Landmarks: works from the John Kaldor Family and AGNSW Collection. $66/$60 InSight Members.
