Blue Mountain Resort: 2019/20 Winter Adventure Guide

Page 1

WELCOME TO

BLUE MOUNTAIN RESORT

Things are different in the North. We set our alarms to the sounds of snow ploughs. Our favourite forecasts include the terms lake effect, and nor’easter. We know the truth about corduroy (no, it’s not just your mom’s favourite fabric). We are Ontario’s biggest and best four-season destination, and even though we aren’t technically supposed to play favourites, we can definitely see why winter contains the word win. Born from the ice and snow of the Niagara Escarpment, Blue Mountain Resort first opened for skiing in 1941. We’ve come a long way in 79 years and are now home to the longest ski season in Ontario. Give us a shot. You’ll end up loving winter as much as we do.

WELCOME

BIENVENUE, 欢迎, BEM VINDOS ようこそ, BIENVENIDOS True to our Canadian roots, we try to be as helpful and friendly as possible. Here’s a list of Blue Mountain must-dos if this is your first visit to our Resort:

• Get more time on the slopes by reserving your tickets and rentals in advance online. • Snack on a BeaverTail at the top of the hill as you enjoy the incredible view. • Take the Plunge! in our indoor- outdoor pool. • Call for dinner reservations at any of the

30 restaurants, and ski right to the Village.

• Enjoy the time-honoured tradition of après at Jozo’s, Bullwheel or 6IX PAK Bar. • Skate under the lights on the Woodview Mountaintop Skating Trail. • Store your equipment easily at the Ski Valet.

2019/20 BLUE MOUNTAIN RESORT

NO GEAR? NO PROBLEM Who looks great in rental equipment?! You do. First things first, though. You need to know where to get kitted out. We have two convenient locations for you to pick up your equipment.

ACTIVITY CENTRAL Located in the Village at the foot of the mountain. Grab your #VillageVibe photo then plan to hit the slopes. SOUTH BASE LODGE Located just outside of the Village, South Base is home to all kids programming and (hot tip) has the biggest parking lot on resort. You’re welcome! INSIDER TIP

You can now pre-book your rentals online, so they are ready when you arrive.

NEWBIE What would you think if we told you can get your lift ticket, rentals and instruction in one place for one price? Introducing the Newbie Program, a lesson circuit for those who are new to skiing or snowboarding. LIFT AND RENTAL Looking to move up from the Newbie Program? Lift and Rental is your best option. It gives you all the same items as the Newbie, but instead of a beginner lift ticket, you have access to the entire mountain.

JOURNEY TO

THE TOP

By stepping on hill you’re about to join a legacy that many were born into, while others were welcomed with open arms later in life. Regardless of when the thrill of downhill strikes, there are two ways to live the alpine life at Blue.

The first is for those who are ready to make a commitment to winter by purchasing a Season Pass. The second is for those who are simply here for a good time, not a long time and want to purchase individual lift tickets.

JOIN THE CLUB 5x7® isn’t just a math equation. It’s Blue’s most popular Pass. The 5x7® gives you 5 days and 7 nights per week of on-hill access, Monday to Friday from open to close and weekends 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Want more access? The Ikon Pass offers unlimited access to Blue Mountain, as well as over 40 destinations worldwide. ADMIT ONE For the best deals on lift tickets, we recommend purchasing in advance online at BlueMountain.ca. You can also pick up same-day lift tickets at any of our Guest Services or ticket window locations.

CLASS IS

IN SESSION There is no better feeling of accomplishment than when you conquer a new challenge. Improve your existing skills or start from scratch with help from our professional instructors.

HIGH FIVE Love High Fives? We do too! That’s why we hand them out all day long in the High Five 2-hour group lessons. High Five explores the entire mountain, making it perfect for the Newbie graduate. INSIDER TIP

Save by adding the High Five lesson to the lift and rental package.

BE THE STAR STUDENT

If you’re more of an independent learner and want some one-on-one personal attention from a pro, we recommend a private lesson. These can be booked for 60 or 90 minutes.

ADAPTIVE SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING We offer an

adaptive program designed to provide a fun and safe on-hill experience for people with disabilities or in need of special assistance. 90-minute and 3-hour lessons are available. Please get in touch with our adaptive experts at adaptive@BlueMountain.ca to ensure we have all the information necessary to make your visit a great experience.

SNOW MUCH FUN So you went to a Ski Resort but you don’t ski or snowboard. No worries, you’re welcome here! We have plenty of activities for you to experience the joy of winter without hurtling yourself down the side of the Escarpment.

SNOWSHOEING It’s just like hiking, but with a really cool pair of shoes. What’s not to love? You can bring your own snowshoes or rent a pair at South Base Lodge. Once you’ve got your gear, head out to one of our snowshoe trails, located in the Orchard or at the top of the mountain. WOODVIEW MOUNTAINTOP SKATING

It’s time to lace up and channel your inner Olympic figure skater or pro hockey player. Atop Blue Mountain resides the Woodview Mountaintop Skating Trail. Grab some pals and cruise the 1.1 km trail while enjoying beautiful vistas of Collingwood and Georgian Bay. Or skate under the stars hand in hand with a loved one. The trail is open and lit for evening skates until 9:00 pm, weather and conditions permitting.

RIDGE RUNNER MOUNTAIN COASTER

Experience the thrill of downhill from the comfort of your own cart. You can fulfill your need for speed and hit up to 42 km per hour on the descent or take it slow and steady using your self-controlled brakes. As long as you’re having fun the entire way, you’re doing it right. The fun continues on page 12.

Do you want to experience a Blue Mountain winter like a local? Here are some insider tips and tricks:

• No one does après like Jozo’s Bar — the original ski bar at Blue with matinee and evening live entertainment like no other.

• Find the best slopeside views at Bullwheel Pub, Grand Central Lodge and 6IX PAK Bar. Chill out, grab some grub and take in the action. • Instead of driving up, ski or snowboard to the top of the Woodview Mountaintop Skating Trail from the Southern Comfort chair. • Pop into Lifted, Hillside Outfitters,

Red Devil, The North Face, Columbia or Blue Mountain Supply Co. and chat with the staff. They’ll show you where to snag the best deals and the winter must-haves.

• If you’re a seasoned pro, can we

interest you in our High-Performance Demo Centre? Aimed at enthusiasts looking to try out the latest and greatest, this is a great alternative if you want to travel without lugging your gear. The Demo Centre is located in Hillside Outfitters.

• Ride the trails over at North first thing in the morning for challenging turns on steep slopes that have been groomed to perfection. • There is a 4:00 pm daily groom that starts at South Base and ends at Happy Valley. Follow the groomer for fresh corduroy and hot laps.

HOW DO YOU

TRAVEL TIMES (Driving) Blue Mountain Resort to Barrie 45 min.

GET HERE

“Hey Siri! Google Blue Mountain!” We know your smart phone will get you here, but we’re 79 years old and can still remember a time when pre-printed Map Quest directions were the latest in GPS technology. For easy reference, we’re 90 minutes north of Toronto, 45 minutes west of Barrie and just 3 hours north of Buffalo. Our official address is 190 Gord Canning Drive, Blue Mountains, Ontario, L9Y 1 C2, but unless you’re looking for a job or a visit with the groomers, this building is not for you. So amend that Siri request to, “Hey Siri! Take me to 108 Jozo Weider Blvd, The Blue Mountains, ON, L9Y 3Z2,” and enjoy the laughs as she tries to pronounce Weider correctly all the way to your destination. @BlueMtnResort
