Birdboy Seriously playful paper-crafted fantasy
PICA Performance space 9:30pm (60 mins)
Fluttering hearts and beating wings, feathered friends and unfulfilled dreams. Here a boy is raised by birds and a woman who sings without any words. One Hit Wanda lives in a dishevelled one bedroom apartment with her one son and one hundred birds. Nightly she sings for her caged fans, blissfully reliving her former glory. In this sea of seeds and beaks nests her son Nameless, all clawed and un-adored, all feathered and un-friended. But when Wanda performs her swansong,
Nameless is free to discover what lies beyond the bird feed… Inspired by the true story of a seven year old Russian boy who was discovered raised as a pet bird by his mother, Birdboy is a pecking order play about spreading your wings - even if you don’t have any.

Miracle Man Photo: Pier Carthew
From award-winning company Sans Hotel, Miracle Man is an absurd and (mostly) true story about a guy called Derek who seeks enlightenment from a god with a thing for Nike shoes and hairspray. In this part surreal comedy, part documentary, Pier Carthew mines his own experience growing up in a family devoted to Sri Sathya Sai Baba - a guru who claimed to be God’s avatar. When he died in 2011, more murky details emerged - allegations of sexual improprieties, fraudulent miracles, an obscene amount of cash at his home, and hundreds of cans of hairspray used to tame his wild afro.

Contemporary Dance meets Countdown
Remember pushing aside the loungeroom furniture and ripping out some wild and crazy moves? With A Bullet sees a dynamic bunch of choreographers recall the first song to which they ever made up a dance, re-imagining this song to create a totally new piece of choreography. Started in Melbourne in 2006, creator Nat Cursio (VIC) in cahoots with her long-time colleague & co-curator Shona Erskine (WA) are offering this nostalgic yet subversive creative challenge to the dance-makers of Perth for the first time.
With music ranging from infectious 80’s anthems to obscure electronica, the dance works in this bold new compilation of ‘hit singles’ are diverse. Discover this suite of short sharp works while reliving your own days of stereocranked dancing glory!

Whimsically absurd seaside stories
Under a lighthouse there’s a home for two lovers. Inside an old claw-footed bath soaks a newlywed woman.
