PR Agency Trends 2013 has seen a marked increase in the demand for talent within the PR industry. The majority of the global networks are continuing to report highly respectable earnings and it would appear that in a time of continued caution surrounding large advertising budgets, PR campaigns have been heavily utilised to reach audiences on a mass scale and build stronger brand awareness. The mainstreaming and continued growth of digital activity have also contributed to an industry emerging from the recession in robust health, and one capable of generating strong margins. The current salary survey aims to accurately depict present remuneration levels. However, we must also bear in mind that security of a role, location, an agency’s core offering, the agency environment and career development opportunities are all part of ensuring a role is attractive to high-calibre agency professionals and can have a marked effect on the package on offer. Blue Skies continues to recommend to agency clients that a candidate-by-candidate approach is the most sensible route to calculating and formulating the right offer. Service demands We have witnessed a continued candidate shortage around the mid-level experience (AM, SAM and AD) highlighted by
the increasing trend of candidates receiving multiple job offers during their search. Salaries at this level have risen in line with this demand, with a large number of Senior Account Managers salaries tipping into the £40k+ bracket. Perhaps even more encouraging is the number of new junior roles that we have taken on this year. Clearly, increased market confidence has led to the majority of agencies looking to grow their talent from within and strengthen their offering at a junior level. Freelance day rates have seen a smaller rise than permanent salaries, and the demand for freelancers has remained consistent with levels seen in 2013. The Year Ahead Blue Skies expect to see the trends witnessed in 2013 continue well into the new year, with a gentle uplift in overall packages in the PR industry. With the government introducing compulsory work place pension schemes, employee benefits will be bought to the forefront of candidate’s attention and could be playing a greater role in candidate’s employment choices moving forward.
