Editors Note Firstly my team and I would like to extend our endless gratitude towards you for allowing us to access you, talk about you and talk to you. In our first issue we experienced great trials and tribulations in that we had something to prove beyond any reasonable doubt could exist, that this magazine could work, and it has. This magazine means so much to us and at a point where we are able to maximize social capital in order to make you more balanced we will do so. This month our focus is on the idea of balancing life as a person, and where one ought to be balancing life. During this issue I had experienced a major crisis in just being extremely overwhelmed with everything happening in my life. Being extremely unfocused, a dear friend of mine who is an integral part of this structure and mastermind behind our organization, Lawrence Adams, came through on this issue and put a lot of work to still make me look special as the Editor-in-Chief. I thank the team for showing immense leadership ad great character in my absence. Enjoy our second edition, blood, sweat and tears Five75ers. We look forward to experiencing a balanced growth with you FIVE 75 LOVE, Webster Editor-in-Chief

Our Tyla Jurdens “My style has always been minimalistic and focus on creating large silhouettes which are focused on specific design elements and contrasting colours. I was mainly inspired by Japanese designers and their focus on shape, line and approach to minimalism. I brought this into my designs with large panels, geometric shapes and monochromatic shapes like army green and deep maroon. The use of layering is large in street-wear and allows the collection to fit into the A/W 2017 category as the materials are insulating but still breathable for South African summers. The jackets each have a unique style to them and the collection is easily assembled in different ways encouraging the wearer to make the collection their own and pair their own style to it. I am currently completing my Honours at the University of Johannesburg and hope to continue designing athlesuire-wear in the future

Inspiration Khanya Zulu Style: High -end street wear, Autumn-winter 2018 Menswear Inspired by the ancient Japanese war attire, Khanya has modernized and mixed it with street style, in terms of garment construction and the usage of blood colours. The “Bad Religion 18 collection is mostly inspired by the likes of Raf Simons and Off White; It also talks about the social ills of our generation and romanticizes the bad side of youth culture.

IF THE SHOE FITS AIR MAX 270 ULTRAMARINE

Every year NIKE makes a variation of AIR MAX unit sneakers. Last year they introduced the vapour max. This year NIKE flipped the script and released a sneaker that is made purely for lifestyle moving away from their usual performance based designs. This shoe drew its inspiration from the Air Max 93 and Air Max 180 and as part of the launch NIKE actually retro built this model. It has a 35 mm thick air unit -the largest NIKE has ever done.

tered around casual and comfortable pieces such as jeans and sneakers. It is widely accepted that the movement started in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Early street-wear brands took inspiration from an array of cultures such as punk, but the most noticeable influence up to date is that of the hip-hop culture. Brands to be the early adopters of street wear include Adidas, NIKE, Champion, Timberland and Wu-Tang Clan. STREET WEAR IS LIFE

he end of summer has arrived, now we say goodbye to flip-flops and vest and hello to clothes that will keep us warm and looking dapper in this change of weather. Many young men find it somewhat difficult and time consuming to shop for the change in season. No more standing in stores wondering whether it will look good on you.

FIVE 0UTFITS FOR THIS FALL

1.Once in a while you are require to we to wear semi-formal whether

it is to work, an interview or a presentation this look should be in your arsenal. In this outfit, we see how the brown pulls the whole look together. If brown is not your favorite i would recommend nude, purple, mustard yellow, blue and burgundy as worthy substitutes. Chinos and a sweater gives you a laid back yet dapper look and not the typical plain shirt and tie. Every guy should invest in knit ties for the fall. With the textures , you will be looking dapper every single time

2.

Cooler weather may be approaching but some days will be slightly warmer. This is a relatively old style but it is still worn horribly wrong. What you want is a cohesive layering of colours.

For the top shirt a dark colours do the trick and help you 16

3. For street wear,

Investing in a good quality hoodie will help you get the insulation you need for those cold days. Your trendy denim jacket will not exactly keep you warm however the hoodie, jacket and shirt make will make for a both warm and awesome look. Also look to invest in hightop sneakers for rainy days. Apr 2018 ISSUE #02

Emphasize the inner shirt that should be in primary colours with little to no print on it. Add a well fitting light blue straight leg or skinny jean with high tops the compliment both the colour and the style of your clothing. Remember to get clothing according to your body and at the right proportions.

2

3

Your regular low top sneakers are not ideal for those wet days. The high top will keep your feet dry and also warm. I personally prefer leather sneakers.

4. No need to dress up in a full tux. I

suggest you invest in a good quality turtle neck. This will work for pretty much all of your outfits. This is how to dress up your debonair suit or trendy street-wear with a turtle neck. Along with the turtle neck, a good accessory like a watch is essential this fall. The thing that most guys get wrong is having too much happening on their wrists. The secret is to keep things simple.

5. I couldn’t leave this one out. COATS, s Before deciding on whether to buy an overcoat or a trench coat you need to first consider the climate that you live in. Overcoats are heavier and keep you warm on those freezing days. If you live in an area that has warmer falls and winters, I would suggest the trench coat. For both, you need to pay close attention to colour and patterns that you pick.

The idea rings true for your feelings as well. There are going to be those days where you feel like you have been hit by a truck and struggling to overcome your bed, let alone conquer the world. Be rest assured, that is a normal part of life. If you have ever been up past 3 o’clock in the morning, you will know that what is in your heart looks very different in the twilight, and no, it has got nothing to do with vampires. We are often told or made to feel like it’s not cool to be sad or upset about something, that it brings people down and that your feelings are meant to be kept to yourself or told “don’t bring that energy to the party”. Society makes being sad seem like being public enemy number 3, after “blue ticks” and the “friend zone”, of course. Sam Smith and I would like to disagree with the notion that sadness has no place in the concoction of emotions that make up happiness and, more importantly, purpose. Sam Smith said in an interview that whenever he’s feeling sad he “shakes sadness’ hand” and tries to learn from it everything that it is willing to teach. Well, I say keep giving this man awards because he keeps speaking sense to us. Our lowest moments often prepare us for our highest moments. We are able to learn so much from Apr 2018 ISSUE #02

We step outside of our norm when we are sad and we end up doing things that exposes all that is wrong with the world and this is what in fact sheds some light on the solutions as to how to actually handle feelings. One of these solutions is expression through art. I have a little a saying that goes “you either have happy days or days where you make art”. Melancholy is a great way to say “sadness” but that’s hardly all it is. It is introspective and thoughtful, it is reflective and indulgent. It’s a rare moment that you get to spend with your mind and the universe and the wisdom that comes from that connection is extraordinary.

My piece of advice is; whenever you’re sad don’t look to cheer up. Don’t go around the sadness, go through it. Feel all the sadness, learn from it, take it all in and make yourself better through the altered perspective you get of the world and more importantly, of yourself. Talk about it, learn from it and grow from it.

Sadness is just like change, it will always be there and it will demand to be felt. Philosopher Saren Kierkegaard had this to say to express how absolutely pervasive sadness is: “ marry and you will regret it, don’t marry and you will also regret it, laugh at the world’s foolishness or weep over it you will regret it either way, hang yourself and you will regret it, don’t hang yourself and you will regret that too”. Now as bleak as that point is it is also a good one. It tells us that sadness is part of life, it’s always going to be there but what comes of it is up to us. It’s up to what we choose to learn from sadness that could either make us or turn us into Kill Monger.

ocial Media has made communicating and the sharing of information so very easy. Not many people know that it is easy making money on your social media and here are a few ways instagramers make money 1. Brand deals: This is when a brand forms an alliance with a insta famous person and pays them to either attend their event and post about it or just post about their product or service. Brand deals difficult to spot because istagramers do not just come out and say “Hey I have a brand deal buy this product” they usually just post a picture or video of themselves using the product and where they got the product. They do it discretely unless they are brand ambassadors. 2.Shout Outs: this is basically when people(other instagramers who are trying to grow their following) ask the insta famous to post a picture of them for a fee. Shout outs are mostly done by meme and news pages because they do not have a niche it is difficult for these pages to get brand deals.

Apr 2018 ISSUE #02

So a shout out would be them posting a picture and underneath saying for more follow @[...]. This can also be done on a tit for tat basis where two pages post each other and no money is exchanged in order to grow their following.

How Insta Influencer‘s Monetize The Gram

3. Running or Advising someone else’s insta: Yes, up an coming brand do pay people to run their instagram for them. Believe it or not yes someone could pay you to run their Instagram account. This is most often small to Medium companies that do ot have a marketing department but require exposure. Big companies do hire social Media experts too. In order to make money this way just prove you can grow a following 4. Promoting your own product: Instagram is a hub for products because of the picture element. Customers get a visual feel of a product and are likely to buy it. Quite a few insta famous people I follow have their own products or side hustle they are promoting.

A South African personality taking advantage of insta dj Sbu, he promotes his product strictly on instagram. Kylie Jenner, Kim K and Rihanna have used this platform to promote their products. Building a following on any social media platform will be covered in next months FIVE 75 Cheers

hucks, I’m my own PA and boss all at the same time. I keep a diary that outlines my appointments, bookings and classes. I am very economic when it comes to time. I try not to bundle everything in one day; I prefer to do a thing a day but sometimes it does not work out like that. My phone also has all my appointments in alarm format and reminds me before and on the day I have to attend an outreach program, class, symposium or anything of that effect. I give everything the same level of importance and spread out my time adequately. I try keep my levels downs and visit home as much as I can to connect with family and friends. There are days where i have to force myself to sit and not do anything; not check emails, take calls or answer invitations. This is to regain my sense of calm and sanity. Thirdly I go out. I love music and i love dancing so don’t be surprised when the blazers and lapels fall off and you see me moving about your local hang out spot. The three remind me of three things: 1.How My family and loved ones are and how they see my journey, 2.when to not work, so that i give myself adequate time to rest and reconnect with my inner being. 3.All work and no play is bad for the human body

I was supposed to have done my final year in 2016. At the time I was a contestant on One day leader season 4 and worked on two projects namely; Future Leaders Season 4 and SAB’s be a mentor program as a mentor an influencer respectively. My public speaking business had just started, and for that reason I also went into a bit of radio. I tried to balance all that with my studies, but it was near impossible . I did not have a car , was flat broke and could hardly make it between my shoots in Johannesburg and my academic obligations in Vanderbijlpark. Apr 2018 ISSUE #02

I was involved in the #FeesMustFall movement and participated in a protest that took place and it resulted in me being banned for a good eight months from campus. Meaning I could only continue my studies in the second semester of 2017. I then decided to reenter One day leader and branded myself as a thought leader, media personality and a nation builder.. I started two businesses with my friends , one named Little Big Steps which is a nation building movement that works with care centres and the second one, Naked Truth , Live poetry and music which targets talent round South Africa and gives it a platform to express their art at the Vanderbijlpark Capello. I started working as a freelance presenter at summits and started facilitating for corporate. During this time, I managed to raise money to pay for my school fess and acquire a vehicle that would assist with my commute between campus and work-related projects. I don’t think I’ve ever been one to willow in self pity. Life happens but life also goes on. I am a hard worker, that doesn’t always guarantee results but i work hard nonetheless. Two quotes that really push me are: Jeremiah 29v11 from the bible that says “ I know the plans I have for you;” declares the lord,” plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future” and He who feeds you, imposes his will on you ~President Captain Thomas Sankara of Burkino Faso

What is even worse is that the depiction of the breast in modern and ancient art forms gave rise to “the perfect boob”.

reasts, Boobs, Titts, or Amabele what ever you choose to call them you cannot deny that they are powerful. They secrete milk from it’s mammary glands to feed infants, and have featured in notable modern and ancient sculptures, art, and photography. Men and women alike are obsessed with those two sack-like structures protruding from the female chest. This fixation has led to the sexualization of the breast to a point where bear breasts, especially the nipple, are seen as indecent. Giving rise to the movement #FreeTheNipple.

Perky, symmetrical, monochromatic breasts are seen as the perfect breast and has been reinforced by the entertainment industry and “society”. We have to admit that the standards placed on women are absurd and unrealistic. This “perfect pair” are constantly paraded in front of women and if you have a pair or have been fortunate enough to see or touch a pair you would agree with me when i say that this depiction is false. All that and the constant scrutiny by both males and females leads to women often at a young age asking questions like “what is wrong with me?”. This level of harsh self criticism leads to many psychological issue and results in women seeking shortcuts, like breast augmentations, to self acceptance not realizing that it is more of a societal and psychological problem than a physical one.

K

edirile Ledwaba a student, athlete & entrepreneur from Seshego. A township in Limpopo always found himself gravitating towards basketball in a community where soccer was the preferred sport. Due to the lack of local leagues Kedirile established the “ O Nyatsa Mang (ONM), which translates to “who are you underestimating”, league in December 2017. The ONM League was officially launched on the 24th of February with the aim of bringing different teams together whilst elevating the standards of the competition. After a slam dunk launch, the teams would get together before hand and each team would contribute the purchase of trophies, medals. The wining team would receive the bragging rights to the tittle “the kings of the court”. The league saw exponential growth since its launch, and soon enough the league moved from the sports complexes of Seshego to Polokwane and the University of Limpopo Turfloop Campus. His journey was not one without challenges. Because it was fairly new Kedirile had to book sports complexes and venues to host the ONM league events from his own pocket. A student himself, Kedirile faced financial constraints that would threaten the growth of the league. Amidst challenges such as not being able to find funding, inconsistency of participants and rising travel costs Kedirile held on to his dream. Thanks to the support of his peers Kedirile is optimistic about the future of the teams and the future of the league. Our hero has no intention stopping and wants to support other young basketball players and use the sport as a tool to combat many of the social Apr 2018 ISSUE #02
