6265 18k Red Khanjar
This timepiece, a reference 6265 made of 18K gold, is yet another version of a Cosmograph made for the Sultanate of Oman in the early 1970s. The size of the red Khanjar emblem at 12 o’clock required the scripts “ROLEX OYSTER” to be shifted higher. The Greek Sigma letters indicate the presence of gold hour markers on the dial. It is fitted with gold Mk 2 bezel and pushers.
In the 1980s, Rolex adorned tool watches with precious gems for its most exclusive and demanding clientele. These are considered trophy watches for many collectors. This example is especially interesting as the outside caseback bears French import marks and the Rolex France logo.
Like reference 6269, reference 6270 is set with baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel. The subsidiary registers are blue. Like its brilliant diamond bezel sibling, it was made in very small quantities. To date, fewer than ten examples have ever graced the auction market.
