tunes, such as “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” and “I Left My Heart In San Francisco,” form part of the fabric of American music culture. Often billed as the world’s most boyish octogenarian, Bennett is a vital musical artist at the peak of his powers. Bennett celebrated his 85th birthday in 2011 with the release of “Duets II” and made music history as the oldest artist to ever have a No. 1 CD on the Billboard album charts. “Duets II” followed “Tony Bennett Duets: An American Classic” CD, released in 2006. 2012 marked the 50th anniversary of the singer’s signature song, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” as well as the release of a new documentary film “The Zen of Bennett,” created and conceived by his son and manager Danny Bennett. Tony Bennett also authored his fourth book, “Life is a Gift,” which was released in 2012 and entered the NY Times Best Seller list. In 2014, Bennett released a collaborative album with Lady Gaga, “Cheek to Cheek,” featuring these two legendary artists performing jazz standards. Bennett beat his own record when the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Album charts, making him the oldest musical artist, at the age of 88, to have an album top the Billboard 200 yet again. The album won the Grammy Award in the Best Traditional Pop Album category. Bennett is a Kennedy Center Honoree, an NEA Jazz Master and a recipient of the United Nation’s Humanitarian and Citizen of the World honors. Don’t miss this legendary artist Oct. 24 at Ovens Auditorium.

Life After The Blumey Awards
or the past four years, Blumenthal Performing Arts has hosted the annual High School Musical Theater Awards for this region’s high schools. Presented by Wells Fargo and fondly known as The Blumey Awards, it has become one of Blumenthal's signature programs Presenting Sponsor of The Blumey Awards as students compete for top honors in 12 categories. The program recognizes the outstanding work of local young artists and provides many opportunities for them to practice their craft in a professional setting. “Wells Fargo was the inaugural corporate underwriter for this performing arts program in 2012,” said Jay Everette, Community Affairs manager for Wells Fargo. “The Blumeys are all about showcasing the amazing talent of students in our region. It’s a ‘Glee meets the Tony’s at the intersection of Fame’ kind of evening. We were thrilled to be part of the presentation again this year.” Ever wonder what happens to these extraordinary performers after the competition? You're not alone! We checked in with some of our past winners to see what they are up to these days. 2012 BLUMEY AWARDS Best Actor winner Kyle Conroy is a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill, double-majoring in advertising and dramatic art.
