Season Tickets for the PNC Broadway Lights season are on sale now and begin as low as $268.50. Buyers can opt for a 10-month payment plan. Eight- and nineshow season tickets are available. The nine-show season includes Lincoln Center Theater’s production of the Tony Awardnominated Falsettos. Current PNC Broadway Lights Season Ticket holders have until May 6 to renew their season tickets and lock down their seats for next year’s fantastic lineup of shows. Last year’s PNC Broadway Lights season sold out of season tickets, and strong demand is anticipated again this year. New buyers are urged to order early for the best chance of acquiring seats. New orders will be processed first come,
first served from available open seats. As always, Season Ticket buyers enjoy access to the best seats at the best price, plus many special benefits. One of the most popular benefits is the option to swap up to four season shows for anything else coming next season. With an exciting lineup of Broadway Extras, including an all new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, the 10th anniversary tour of the ultimate party show Rock of Ages, and two new musical spectaculars, Bat Out of Hell and The Lightning Thief, season buyers will have plenty of great show options. Another benefit, free exchange, also allows Season Ticket holders to move to a different performance of a season show if their schedule changes.

5 Reasons Not to Miss I Dream Opera fans won’t want to miss this new contemporary classic, and if you’re new to Opera Carolina, I Dream is a great starting point. Here are our top five reasons not miss I Dream.
1. It’s a fusion of opera, jazz, classical and pop in the style of Les Misérables. 2. It’s sung in English! 3. Composer and librettist Douglas Tappin wrote I Dream after studying hundreds of books by and about Martin Luther King Jr. and interviewing those who knew him best. 4. I Dream is being premiered for the 50th anniversary of King’s assassination. 5. We have only five performances at Knight Theater at Levine Center for the Arts in uptown Charlotte.

WHO’S WHO in the CAST essays have appeared in the New Yorker, The New Republic, Vanity Fair and The New York Times. GERRY GOFFIN (Words and Music). Born in Brooklyn in 1939, Gerry Goffin met Carole King at Queens College, and their musical collaboration began almost immediately. They married in 1959, and that same year wrote their first hit song “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” (The Shirelles). The duo penned more than 50 Top-40 hits including “The Locomotion,” “Natural Woman” and “Up on the Roof.” In 1987, Goffin and King were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Goffin has left an indelible mark on American music. CAROLE KING (Words and Music). Pop music would be very different without the contributions of Carole King, who at age 17 wrote her first #1 hit with Gerry Goffin, “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” for the Shirelles. The dozens of chart hits Goffin and King wrote during this period became legendary, but it was 1971’s Tapestry that took King to the pinnacle, speaking personally to her contemporaries and providing a spiritual musical backdrop to the decade. More than 400 of her compositions have been recorded by over 1,000 artists, resulting in 100 hit singles and six Grammys. BARRY MANN (Words and Music) has written the melodies of some of the most influential pop songs in musical history. In addition to “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” the most-played song of the last century, and the songs heard in Beautiful, he composed later standards like “Somewhere Out There” (winner of two Grammys), “Here You Come Again,” “Sometimes When We Touch,” “Just Once” and “Don’t Know Much.” Together, he and Cynthia Weil have amassed an incredible 112 pop, country and R&B awards from Broadcast Music Inc. for significant radio air play. He has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. CYNTHIA WEIL (Words and Music) is known as the lyricist of classic songs such as “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” the most-played song of the 20th century. In addition to the songs heard in Beautiful, she set the words to later standards including “Somewhere Out There,” “Here You Come Again,” “He’s So Shy,” “Just Once” and “Don’t Know Much,” to name just a few. Weil has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, honored with multiple Grammy nominations and two Grammy awards for “Somewhere Out There” as the Motion Picture Song of the Year and Song of the Year. We Inspire Community. Something special happens when we experience a performance in a group – quite different from seeing it alone. We FEEL it more intensely. Shared experiences also build understanding and empathy among the participants. Diverse communities need collective experience more than ever. We inspire community … through the arts. Blumenthal Performing Arts has been entertaining and inspiring our community since 1992.

Spring Works Features Choreographer Bryan Arias
ryan Arias – a choreographer featured in Charlotte Ballet’s Spring Works – received a Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship earlier this season after being nominated by Charlotte Ballet Artistic Director Hope Muir. Hope first became aware of Bryan’s work at the Copenhagen International Choreography Bryan Arias Competition. “I was struck by Bryan’s professionalism and focus. He approaches things with great detail and curiosity. He comes in with a plan and engages well with his dancers,” Hope said. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York City, Bryan’s new work for Charlotte Ballet – When Breath Becomes Air – is one of his first commissions from a major dance company in America. Interestingly, Bryan began his dance career as a member of Charlotte Ballet’s second company. “Charlotte Ballet was my first professional company experience when I was 19,” Bryan said. “To return after more than a decade means I get to witness and

experience the company’s growth and share my artistry through a new medium.” Bryan’s choreographic language will bring a unique flavor to the repertoire of Charlotte Ballet. “He has a distinctive voice and a creative process that will nurture the wonderful artists of Charlotte Ballet, and I look forward to sharing his unique style with Charlotte audiences,” Hope said. The Princess Grace Foundation-USA is a nonprofit, publicly-supported foundation, headquartered in New York City. The Foundation’s mission is dedicated to identifying and assisting emerging talent in theater, dance and film by awarding grants in the form of scholarships, apprenticeships and fellowships.

A long tradition of helping our community perform at its best. At Moore & Van Allen we have a long tradition of supporting the arts. Whether they entertain, inspire or simply add beauty to our community, the arts can have an impact on everyone. There are very few things in life that can achieve that. Which, in our minds, is an uncommon art.
