Peter Pan Takes Flight in March

P

eter Pan flies into the Knight Theater in March 2015. Charlotte Ballet’s President & Artistic Director JeanPierre Bonnefoux’s gravity-defying Peter Pan, tells the story of the mischievous boy who never wants to grow up, his sassy sidekick Tinker Bell and the frightful Captain Hook. Although the ballet follows the classic story of Peter Pan, Charlotte Ballet’s production has some unique twists including steampunk Lost Boys and a hilarious dancing crocodile. Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Wendy and the Darling Boys all fly during the production of Peter Pan. “We learn the flight choreography in the studio, but it’s not until the week of the performance that we begin using the flying system in the theater,” said dancer Jordan Leeper, who performed as Peter Pan. Helping Bonnefoux bring the magic of Peter Pan to life are set designer Howard Jones and costume designer Christina Giannini. The two worked closely with Bonnefoux to create his vision of Peter Pan. “Peter Pan is about not having limits; it’s about living in a world where you can dress up, play and take chances,” said Bonnefoux, who is also the choreographer of Charlotte Ballet’s Nutcracker. When last performed the Charlotte Observer's Lawrence Toppman wrote, "Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux…has given us an evening of unalloyed joy." Peter Pan promises adventure, fantasy and unique twists. Bring the whole family to this ballet they'll never, never forget.

Song 1:

xtra! Extra! Read all about it! The Tony Award-winning Disney hit Newsies is coming to Charlotte Jan. 6-11 in Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. The New York City boys from 1899 have been delivering papers – and justice – onstage since the Broadway premiere of their smash-hit show in 2012. Now the musical takes to the road on its first national tour. Some say the story garnered such a long-lasting cult following that a stage version was a given, and now it’s finally here! Most Newsies fans say the songs are a big part of the mass appeal. Put your skills to the test and see how much of a Newsies fan you really are. Below are lyrics to three songs from the show. Can you name the song titles?

Let me go. Far away. Somewhere they won't ever find me, and tomorrow won't remind me of today. Song 2: Suddenly, I'm respectable Starin' right at 'cha Lousy with sature Song 3: Courage is when we face our fear Tell those with power safe in their tower We will not obey! Answers are upside down on the bottom of the page.

unique and amazing show is headed to Belk Theater in March that is sure to entertain. Complete with all the excitement and festive pageantry of a Chinese carnival, The Peking Acrobats will wow audiences. These daring performers display unbelievable talent with their acrobatic skills and abilities. Let’s see how skilled you are with this fun picture challenge. See if you can find the four things that are different in the photos below. Answers are at the bottom of the page. Last year, this engaging troupe launched its 28th North American tour following sold-out headline theater tours from 1986 to 2014. And now, The Peking Acrobats return to North American soil for their 29th tour where they will continue to impress audiences with their unique brand of ancient artistry. Don’t miss this amazing act when it comes to Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center March 10.
